PCU Frat #1

Trick or Treat, Nurse at My Feet

Rate this book
Tyler

I've been circling around my attraction to guys for years, but never had the balls to do anything about it. Then I spot a gorgeous nursing student on campus, and suddenly I'm that creepy guy lurking outside lecture halls like a total stalker. Smooth, right?

When his douchebag boyfriend literally throws him at me in the campus haunted house, I finally get my shot. And damn if I'm not going to show Ethan exactly how a guy should be treated—like he's something precious instead of something to hide.

Ethan

I'm so tired of being treated like I'm toxic waste in a rainbow wrapper. Done with guys who act like I'm contagious in public but can't keep their hands off me behind closed doors. My breaking point? Getting thrown at a masked, baseball bat-wielding guy by my now-ex in a haunted house.

Turns out, under the mask is the hottest frat guy on campus, and he's not looking to scare me.

Now I'm spending time in a house full of frat guys who actually seem to like having me around, with a guy who looks at me like I hung the moon and doesn't give a damn who sees it.

Between meddling exes, interfering frat guys, and one very opinionated drag queen, can something that started on Halloween night survive past November?

Trick or Treat Nurse at My Feet is a laugh-out-loud, steam-filled mm college romance with an HEA and no cliffhangers. It features a tall, dark frat guy discovering his bisexuality, a sassy nursing student who's done with everyone's bullshit, and a house full of surprisingly supportive (and devastatingly hot) frat brothers. There's haunted house meet-cutes, meddling frat guys, a protective drag queen, enough sexual tension to power the entire campus, and the kind of love that makes you question everything you thought you knew about yourself. This is book one in the Pacific Coast University series. Each book follows a different couple and their hilariously hot frat brother wingmen.

Trick or Treat Nurse at My Feet by Sarah Jayne is a hurt/comfort story about a student nurse who has been kept as a side secret and a frat vice president coming out for the first time who isn’t afraid to be what he needs in public as they explore their relationship that leads to love. Ethan Barrett is a very cute and knowledgeable nursing student at Pacific Coast University. He has been in a relationship for 8 months with Ryan who comes from a very religious family so whenever they are out in public or with his friends he never lets on that they are boyfriends. This is very trying on Ethan, as he always tries to please him but doesn’t always succeed, especially when he wants to be seen as more than just a friend when they go places. Everything comes to a head at a Halloween Party on campus that Ryan has asked him to but shows up wearing a mask so no one can know who he is. Ethan’s best friend, Sylas, who has never liked Ryan and has many interesting names for him, has dressed him as Nurse Hottie complete with makeup and glitter which throws Ryan for a loop because he doesn’t want to be seen and known. Tyler Landis is an environmental engineering student and vice president of Delta Psi Omaga fraternity which is full of great brothers who stand with each other and can also be quite funny. He had always had girlfriends and had recently broken up with Cher as in the back of his mind he felt an attraction to men which he had never acted on. Then he saw Ethan coming out of the health building and was completely bewitched. He followed him around but was tongue-tied whenever he thought he could talk to him so this went on until Halloween. The fraternity always had a Chamber of Horrors and he and his best friend, Gavin, were the ones chosen to scare people as they went through. Ethan and Ryan were going through it when Ethan asked him to take off his mask and he finally came to the conclusion that Ryan won’t blow up his future and if he did what Ethan asked and let it be known that they were together he would lose everything. That is when Tyler jumps out at them as a bloody lumberjack and Ryan pushes Ethan into him and takes off running. Tyler realizes its his Ethan and they chase after him, acting hysterical, and the other brothers that are there think it is great. Tyler then asks him back to the frat house and Ethan is scared because he doesn’t know him but then agrees. He is surprised that all of the brothers are very accepting of him because that hasn’t been the case in the past. As time goes on, they get to know and see each other whenever their schedules permit. Ethan is scared that he is just an experiment in being with a man but Tyler proves him wrong every time by taking him on dates in public, introducing him as his boyfriend, and having fun at the frat’s car wash for the animal shelter and both of their feelings are growing, especially after they have some hot love scenes. Tyler realizes that Ethan is what has been missing in his love life and wants to hold on to him, but Ethan’s past is ever present but he is hopeful. Meanwhile Ryan has tried to get Ethan back, even though he refuses to change, and has even been somewhat physically abusive. Ethan tells him no and to leave him alone and blocks him on his phone. And Cher is still after Tyler and can’t take no either. Things come to a head when they have dinner with Tyler’s parents and his mother is not happy about them being together and then Ethan feels like someone is watching him and hurting his things. Then something appears in his locker that almost ends their relationship but Tyler and his brothers won’t give up and find a way to convince him that what he saw was fake. Another confrontation with Ryan brings him to the same conclusion and he does something epic to tell Tyler he’s sorry he ran out and that he wants to be with him and they are able to forge ahead with their lives together. I really enjoyed this story. Ethan is a wonderful person who has not been treated well by his boyfriends, especially Ryan. He wants to be loved for who he is and not kept as a secret and this makes him very leery that this will continue when he starts seeing Tyler. But Tyler won’t have any of that as he is forthright and won’t hide him away, having dates in public and being with his frat brothers who are all very accepting of their relationship. The brothers, especially Gavin and Drew, their president, all play a big part in the story, especially in getting them together when things go south. You know Ryan and Cher are not good people right from the start and keep doing everything they can to separate them. But they do get what is coming to them at the end. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like stories about college guys where one is just discovering that he might like men as well as women and the other is sick of being kept a secret, best friends who are somewhat crazy, a fraternity that only wants to help, some exes who are out to stop them from being together, and after some trials they are able to find their way to the love they both deserve.

I definitely had some fluctuating opinions on this book.

The good: The story was sweet, and I enjoyed the characters a lot. The plot was simple, but fine.

The bad: This needed a good editor. There were some inconsistencies early on that I'm sure turned many readers off to the rest of the book, unfortunately. There were some spelling and punctuation mistakes--not a ton, but a few. These things would have been caught by a good editor, so I'm unsure if the author used one or not.

You do have to suspend your belief a bit, as Tyler is literally (yes, literally!) too good to be true, in a fairytale-like way. I give leeway for that, though, because this is fiction after all.

In the end, I thought this was a very sweet story, with lovable characters, and an overall good read, but it would be MUCH better with a good editor.

I enjoyed this lighthearted book. The characters where loveable and I found myself routing for the main couple. The side characters are just as loveable and just as important to the story as the main.

Editing: 1.5 stars
Enjoyment: 4.5 stars
Would I read more in this series: if they’re as fun as this one then yes!

I’m going with closer to my enjoyment rating because that matters to me more than most anything else.

This book need a ton of editing, but the story is adorable and the characters are darling. Overall it was an absolute blast and super fun despite some awkwardness. It’s essentially a soap opera and things get wild sometimes. If it had a good editor it would have been 5 stars EASILY.

Ethan is a cis white gay 21 year old man. He’s got a slim but fit build, red hair, freckles, green eyes and he’s 5’8”. He’s a nursing student. He’s kind and outgoing, and a little naive. He’s a runner and prefers outdoor runs. At the start of the book his boyfriend is Ryan, a homophobic closeted queer guy who has kept Ethan a secret for 8 months. Ethan stayed with him because he has low confidence in himself; he says "It's been my whole life. I was always too skinny, too pale, too nerdy.” His family is misogynistic and homophobic, and disappointed that Ethan can’t just be “normal” with a “man career” and a girlfriend instead of being gay and a nurse (which is a field with a lot of men in it, but whatever). Ethan did the thing where Ryan told him he was closeted but Ethan hoped it would change; that part isn’t on Ryan, but the emotional manipulation, the homophobia, putting Ethan down, and cheating certainly are. Due to this, he’s slightly gun-shy about Tyler being newly out (as in hours after they meet), and his own baggage about being gaslit, cheated on, and scapegoated by his closeted ex.

Tyler is a cis white closeted (he comes out early-ish in the book) 22 year old man on the bisexual spectrum (he’s not sure what label fits him best but knows it’s under the large bi umbrella, because he likes two or more genders). He realizes he’s more attracted to men than women in general, though he has only ever dated women (due to being closeted). He’s got dark hair, a broad and muscular build, and he’s 6’2”. He’s outgoing, charismatic, and a people person. He’s a jock and the vice president of a frat that prides itself on not discriminating based on race. The frat also has a range of queer guys in it, though all of them have also only ever dated women. He’s known he likes guys as well as girls for a long time, but has always pushed it away and not really questioned anything. Recently he’s been dissatisfied with pretending to be straight and ignoring part of his sexuality. After a breakup with a girlfriend (who wanted to be a lot more serious than he did), Tyler resolved to stop lying to himself and others about his sexuality, and that he would let himself ask out whoever he thought was hot even if it was a guy. Fortuitously he just about trips over Ethan and falls headlong into a strong crush and is a cute blushing mess around him and mildly stalks him for a couple weeks before he actually meets Ethan.

I was impressed by the sweet get ballsy way Tyler helped Ethan with his date in the haunted house, and then immediately after literally running the guy off was ready to ask Ethan out. Sometimes that’s creepy, but it works with the situation.

I felt so bad for Ethan getting called an experiment over and over. And I felt bad for Tyler being told he’s only experimenting with Ethan, but he seemed to be less bothered than Ethan, probably because of Ethan’s ex who told him he wasn’t good enough to be important to someone. I did like that Ethan’s insecurities had nothing specifically to do with Tyler or him being bi, but rather his own emotional abuse at his ex’s hands and a reasonable hesitance to date someone just figuring out their sexuality (because it is very common and normal for bi-curious people to realize they’re straight), though even if Tyler did decide he was only interested in dating girls, Ethan wouldn’t have been angry about it, just crushed his feelings couldn’t be returned.

I also thought it was sweet that Tyler realizes he’s been missing kissing someone he’s just genuinely and deeply attracted to. He’s been into his girlfriends before, but with dating girls there’s more social benefits/reasons other than just attraction, so there may be mixed reasons (including dating them because his parents approve, like with Cher). With dating a guy, there’s really only one benefit (and multiple drawbacks socially), and that’s actually really wanting to date him (which isn’t always enough for everyone for good reasons) or just being really attracted to him. For Tyler, Ethan might be the first person he dated only because he really wanted to.

I liked how Ethan didn’t try too hard to hide his baggage around his ex. His relationship literally imploded the moment he met Tyler, and Tyler was still game to ask him out and pursue him even knowing this. Ethan has reasonable hesitation about dating a newly out guy whose parents are fully expecting a wedding announcement with his ex-girlfriend, especially with his ex being how he was. He never takes it out on Tyler but he is pretty upfront that he’s still a bit messed up from how he was treated for so many months. I loved that Tyler, who had reflected on himself and resolved to embrace his full sexuality and accept his attraction to men as being as important as his attraction to women, worked hard to not do to Ethan what Ryan had done to him.

It was kind of refreshing to have MCs that realize they just don’t really enjoy particular kinds of penetrative sex. It’s popular to write queer men who always have earth shattering experiences bottoming or something but not everyone enjoys it. Heck, not everyone enjoys any kind of penetrative sex. Anyway, it was cool to see something different here.

A looooot of typos (so, so many typos and errors) and a few continuity errors, and some awkwardness in places, nothing that makes it unreadable but sometimes makes it a head-scratcher and makes you pause and retract to figure out what is going on. Not breaking a dialogue paragraph correctly ever in the book, which is one of my pet peeves because I get so confused. Scenes with identical dialogue from two different POVs (you’ve gotta pick one, babe, too much recapping energy otherwise).

I wish Tyler had had a bit more nuance to his character. He was a bit too perfect. I still liked him a lot, but he verged on “fantasy book boyfriend” (which is not my thing at all) rather than a fleshed out character.

Contains:
—gay mc x bi mc
—sunshine x sunshine
—gay mc has a gay bff
—bi mc has a straight bff
—size difference
—engineer student jock x nurse student
—jerk exes (both Ryan and Cher are pretty big jerks, and both are homophobic and biphobic, though only Ryan was a cheater)
—mc has a lot of baggage
—mild stalking because MC was enamored and shy
—threatening stalking by ex-boyfriend
—stalking by ex-girlfriend
—touching that is not consensual (Cher against Tyler, and Ryan against Ethan)
—that thing where two same sex queer people plan to propose almost at the same time
—epilogue five years later

Other:
—first person dual POV
—cheating: not between or by MCs but Ethan’s ex routinely cheated on him.
—romantic rival: not really. Ethan and Tyler’s exes both want them back, but neither MC is interested.
—break up: yes, third act.
— kids: no
—sex: a couple open door sex scenes with medium to low detail. Nearly strict roles with Tyler topping and Ethan bottoming. They do switch once on page but Tyler is surprised he gets very little out of bottoming and Ethan reassured him it’s fine if it doesn’t feel as good as topping. They’re both supportive about trying new things in bed and about being okay with it if one or both of them don’t enjoy it, and put each other’s comfort and enjoyment and safety first.
—HEA: yes

A couple walks past me, fingers intertwined, matching skeleton face paint that doesn't stop them from stealing kisses. I look away, something sharp twisting in my chest. This. This is what I want. Not stolen moments, secretive touches, or a boyfriend who wears a mask to go out with me.

Tyler laughs. "Much more effective than Tinder. 'Scared ex throws eligible nursing student directly at interested frat boy.' Should be a new dating app."

“My mom..." he hesitated. "That's going to be more complicated."
"Because you've only dated girls before?"
"Because she has very specific ideas about my future. Including my ex-girlfriend, whom she adores. They still have lunch sometimes."
There's a familiar sinking sensation. "Oh."

I've spent so much time making myself smaller, less visible, and adjusting to other people's comfort levels that I've almost forgotten what it feels like not to apologize for existing, for wanting, for being wanted.

My words trail off with a sigh. "I wish everyone would stop calling me an experiment. Like I'm some kind of lab specimen you're poking with a stick to see what happens."
The hurt in those words must be obvious because Tyler's expression softens immediately. "Hey." His hand reaches out, fingers lacing together with mine. "You're not an experiment. You're the guy I'm crazy about who happens to be helping me show everyone else I'm not as straight as they thought I was. I'm not conducting research. That bullshit is all on them."

"Nah," Gavin says, ruffling my hair like I'm a kid brother, even though he's barely four months older. "You love me. And you're into tiny, smart guys who can boss you around."
Groaning I drop my head to the table while Gavin laughs.

"I'm just... cautious. I spent too long with Ryan sneaking around, never acknowledging me publicly, making me feel like his dirty little secret. And now here's Tyler, who's barely even figured out he likes guys and is already more open about it than Ryan ever was."

"That's why I'm a cat person," Ian chimes in from across the table. "They destroy your stuff with intention, not stupidity."

Maybe that's the difference between settling and finding something real. Real terrifies you and thrills you in equal measure. And right now, the thrill is winning by a mile.

"I meant what I said to my mom," I say suddenly. "You're what's best for me right now. I don't want you to doubt that because of anything she said."
Ethan turns to me, his expression softening. "I don't doubt you, Tyler."

"You're his college experiment," she continues, her voice softening with mock sympathy. "It happens. But when real life starts, Tyler will come back to what he knows. To the kind of relationship that makes sense for his future."

"At least he showed me off in public," I fire back, feeling my anger rise. "That's way more than you ever did."
"Come on, Ethan," Ryan says, his tone placating now. "You're not being realistic. Guys like us—"
"Guys like you," I interrupt. "Don't put me in your closet, Ryan. I'm not ashamed of who I am."

Super cute, super sweet story. It was emotional, funny, and really enertaining. Ethan and Tyler are couple goals. Ethan is smart, funny, and fiesty. Tyler is precious! He's a big cinnamon roll. His infatuation and commitment to Ethan from the start was heartwarming. I loved their love 🥰.

Much respect to Tyler's fraternity. The found family vibes in this book..*chef's kiss*. Gavin throwing people over his shoulder and bringing them to the frat house 🤣. I'm going to need him to have a book 🙏.

Beware- narcissistic ex, conniving ex, and unsupportive parent activity will have you wanting to 💪.

I can't wait to read the next book!

I received an ARC, but I voluntarily wrote this review. All opinions are my own and 100% honest.

I literally can't think of anything aside from wondering where the " i love you"s went. The last chapter before the epilogue had the MC wanting to say it but it didn't feel like the right time and then they don't say it in the epilogue, it ends with them walking in on the next couple in the series.. seriously, I HATE being edged by love declarations. 😒

★ ★ ★ ✬ [3.5 rounded up]

This one would have been an easy 4.5 stars if that clusterfuckery named Ethan hadn't been a dumbass for... well... most of the book.

I genuinely disliked him for most of the book. Like, I know you've got some hangups but you had zero issues ignoring them for the one dude. And Tyler was NOTHING BUT A BABY ANGEL and you just strung him along and broke his heart multiple times.

AND TYLER JUST FORGAVE HIM. The single thing that sweet, perfect man did wrong. Ugh.

Sooooo much potential but for me, between the terrible miscommunication and quite a few editing mistakes, just nah.

I do have the next one in the series on my TBR for my Christmas reading list so I'm giving this author one more try. We shall see!

REVIEW - I enjoyed the story. The flow of the book was quick and easy to read, yet giving great details. I felt connected to these characters and was rooting for Ethan and Tyler. It was nice to see It wasn’t a typical story about Frat boys. It had just enough spicy not to make people shy away. I truly enjoyed this and I’m grateful to have been entrusted to read and review it. Thank you!

I received a ARC of this book and I devoured it in about 48 hours. Tyler and Ethan are instantly likable characters and the supporting cast is just as awesome. This book was so fun, I found myself giggling non stop. Perfect read for getting into those cozy fall vibes. Spice is just an extra bonus. I really hope this is the start of a series!

Trick or Treat Nurse at my Feet is an adorable, bi-awakening where Tyler and Ethan have to face different challenges during their college years.

Tyler is an Environmental Sciences major while Ethan is a Nursing student. These two run into each other on Halloween when Ethan’s ex turns out to be a terrible person and leaves him in a haunted house with a funny Tyler in costume.

I loved the development of these characters through their struggles of learning to come out and be comfortable with who they are. The supporting characters were greatly supportive for both MMCs and that was everything!

This was a 3.5/5 ⭐️ read for me and 1.5 🌶️ and a cute story with tropes of jock/nerd, grumpy/sunshine, and second chances! Thank you BookSirens and Sarah Jayne for this advanced e-book copy and allowing me to share my opinions on it!

This was a fun book with really likeable characters. The characters felt relatable and I liked that they had lots of feelings. I liked the inclusivity in the frat, the friendships and the side characters.

I was a bit disappointed with the epilogue I thought it was a spoiler of coming books and characters.

One of those stories with great potential that falls short on execution. The stories continuity lacked in multiple places throughout the story. Where I had to think did this already occur? or am I miss remembering? I usually let this go, but when it happens multiples times its hard to do so.

Now on to the good the characters were both intriguing and relatable. The side characters helped you want to try more from the author. The 'bad' guys wanted to see more of their motives why they were messing with the couple as much as were or just didn't like them together. I would consider if the author has help in making sure their is continuity.

I reviewed this book freely and and received as an arc copy from BookSirens.

From hidden to showered with open affection

First off the chapter titles were absolutely ridiculous and perfect. Tyler and Ethan are such loveable characters. This story is full of hurt/comfort and not hiding yourself or those you care about.

Tyler's awakening is sweet and awkward. His obsessing about wanting to talk to Ethan is adorable. The way they first ended up together is hysterical because of how it was handled.

The ex girlfriend and ex boyfriendish were terrible people. We do find out why the girl was so set on winning Tyler back but the guy just seemed mad that he didn't have the guy willing to be the dirty little secret anymore. I'm honestly surprised he wasn't seeing a girl as well.

Tyler really shows Ethan what it us to be loved (though they never share that and I felt like that was a big miss) out loud. I love how the frat guys showed up for both men and treated them both like anyone else. Their best friends though definitely seem like they could be good together.

Overall there was some inconsistency in the story that needs to be addressed but honestly I was invested in their story more than the specific details. Its sweet and I hope to see them again in other books in the series.

"My safeword is meatloaf."
Tyler rears back so fast he nearly falls off the bed, his eyes wide and panicked. "Umm, I don't know... I don't think... Ummm..." he stutters, looking utterly bewildered. "I don't think I'm kinky or anything...is that okay?"
It's hard to keep a straight face when his expression is just so perfectly horrified. The laugh starts small but grows until I'm doubled over.

"Hey can I ask you something?"
"Anything," he murmurs sounding half asleep.
"Why meatloaf?"
He laughs softly, turning in my arms to face me. "Think about it for a second."
Burrowing my brow, I'm confused at first. Then understanding dawns on me, and I'm suddenly laughing too, the sound rumbling through my chest against his.
"Because I would do anything for love..." I sing out between laughs.
"But I won't do that!" he finishes, and both of us break into giggles like teenage girls.

This book is the first in a series of college MM romances. Ethan is a nursing student dedicated to completing his degree and helping others, despite his family’s lack of support for his chosen career and his sexuality. The only person he can rely on is his best friend, Sylas, whom he leans on as he navigates his life while hidden by his closeted boyfriend. A Halloween scare house gives him the courage to break free from his secret life and enter a new and open relationship with a fraternity guy. However, he wonders if this is just an experiment for Tyler or if it’s the real deal. With a past that has always left him feeling in the dark, trusting anyone becomes a challenge. Tyler, an engineering student and vice president of Delta Psi Omega, begins to reconsider his sexuality after finding himself attracted to the nursing student who leaves him constantly tongue-tied. Halloween night changes everything, providing him with the opportunity to pursue Ethan, and new feelings develop, leading to an emotional investment in their relationship. Will his fraternity brothers support him, or will their past relationships jeopardize their chance at something more?
While I enjoyed parts of this story, I found it hard to overlook several editing issues. The characters were well-developed, along with their groups of friends, and even the despicable exes contributed to a solid foundation for the book. However, the repetition of certain themes grew frustrating, and inconsistencies in the timeline presented an unrealistic view of events. The epilogue, which jumps forward five years, felt like it was wrapping up the story but lacked much of the crucial development in between, and ultimately provided the outcome of another couple that could be featured in another story. Overall, this is a promising story that would benefit from extensive editing. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I read this one straight through. I'm a mood reader and this was just what I needed.

Tyler was an adorable frat boy, jock who had been attracted to men for years but never acted on it. Until....he laid eyes on Ethan. After rescuing Ethan he put 100% into the relationship and was a great communicator.

Ethan was a nursing student dating a douchebag closeted jock, Ryan. He kept their relationship hidden and refused to acknowledge him in public. He didn't know how to act when Tyler rescued him from his ex and all his frat brothers welcomed him with open arms. He had self esteem issues and never wanted to burden anyone with his problems.

💥 First times(Tyler)
💥 Strict Top/Bottom...They tried switching but neither liked it.
💥 Lack of communication on Ethan's part.
💥Third act break up with dramatic apology(Ethan)
💥 OMD/OWD but neither MC is interested in the attention.
💥Great mature side characters
💥 Problem family members

Spoilers:
**Tyler's mom was a fucking bitch who still had lunches with his ex. When MCs meet up with Tylers parents for dinner and she refused to acknowledge the MCs relationship. She brung up his ex several times making Ethan very uncomfortable. His dad is amazing and included Ethan even reprimanding Tyler's mom.
****Both MCs had terrible exs trying to win them back. They stalked and harassed the MCs eventually teaming up to break them up. They faked some incriminating photos and Ethan dumped Tyler very publicly and without letting him dispute anything.
Ethan was confronted and attacked by his ex and everything finally clicked and he realized the photos were fake. He very dramatically and publicly apologized to Tyler winning him back.

Dislikes:
We never found out how Tyler's mom reacted to Cher's harassment.
A couple of the chapters were copy and paste scenes but in each MCs POV.
Ethan's low self esteem and lack of communication got pretty annoying. 😐

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was the perfect, light-hearted palate cleanser I needed after a string of darker romances. This is a classic story of finding the courage to be yourself and discovering a love that is proud and unwavering.

The story follows Tyler, who is secure in his attraction to men even if he lacks experience, and Ethan, who is in a relationship where he feels hidden away. Their first meeting is deliciously awkward I felt that second-hand embarrassment right along with them, but it sparks a connection that quickly blossoms into something incredibly sweet.

What I loved most about this book was the overwhelming sense of found family and support. Ethan’s best friend is an absolute gem, funny, fiercely protective, and the kind of friend everyone deserves. Similarly, Tyler's friend group are not the stereotypical bros you might expect; they are adorable, welcoming, and immediately form a protective circle around Ethan, which was so heartwarming to see.

Of course, every good romance needs its obstacles, and this book has some frustrating ones. Certain exes and family members provided plenty of conflict, and their actions, especially some victim-blaming antics, were convincingly irritating.

The central relationship between Tyler and Ethan is just so cute. Tyler is exactly what Ethan needs: someone who loves him "loud and proud." Their journey to a happy ending was deeply satisfying.

It’s not a perfect book; I did notice some minor inconsistencies and moments where the writing felt a bit repetitive. However, the charming characters and feel-good vibe completely overshadow these small issues for me. If you're looking for a low-angst, high-support M/M romance with a festive twist and a fantastic cast of side characters, this is definitely a cute read worth picking up

⚠️ Yes, you should read up on the trigger warnings…

This book has all that I crave: it was adorable, steamy, and (in parts) surprisingly dark🤌🏻.

I got the vibe of the darkness from the trigger warnings, but that cover (LOVE 👏) didn’t give away the actual journey… I was clutching my pearls a few times, taking out my earrings in others—that was more angst than I expected.

Now for the sugar: the banter between the MC’s and their best friends was sharp and witty. The sweetness of the MC’s and their developing arc was cozy without being cloying: I literally could not stop smiling while reading most of the book and was fine with it. Also, I enjoyed how some pivotal scenes were retold from both characters' POV. I don’t think I’ve seen that done in the way it was here—loved it. Finally, the steamy scenes were 🥵—I love a ‘please show me how to make this good for you’ vibe. Yes, please.

Okay, so there were a few editorial errors. In the prologue, a character knows another’s name and then tells himself he needs to find out his name… In two places, it appears that a sentence of dialogue has been transposed with the line above or below it. I only mention it because another reader DNF’s for that reason, and I think it’s a shame. It’s an ARC. It's supposed to still have a few errors.

For me, it didn’t detract from the story. I did a double-take and moved on. Totally worth it, to me (no judgment on anyone else).

Overall: I loved it. I def will look out for the rest of the series & so should you.

Tyler has been skirting around his attraction to men until he sees the beautiful nursing student named Ethan. Except he can't think when he's around him and the few times he was able to get his attention his brain short circuits. Until one day Ethan is literally thrust into his arms by Ethan's jerk of an ex and he sees his chance to show Ethan how a man is supposed to treat him. Ethan has had bad luck with guys but nothing like the guy he's "dating" now. One who hides his attraction to men and Ethan himself due to his parents being religious and against being gay. But that doesn't mean he can treat Ethan like a booty call and throw the least bit of attention to keep him hooked. Ethan thinks things will change and has hope. That is until his boyfriend now ex tosses him into a masked man at a haunted house when scared and runs off. The masked man happens to be gorgeous and nice and all for cheering him up. Now he's surrounded by frat guys and the frat guy who saved him changes his stereotypical assumptions about jocks and frat boys. They're all more than welcoming and he's sensing serious interest from Tyler. He can't believe how different being loved and cared for in public and someone being proud to have him by their side is. Meddling exes and Ethan's doubts about things being too good to be true almost tear them apart for good but their connection and love can't be denied and they make it through the hurdles meant to destroy them and come out on top and so unbelievably happy together. I so enjoyed these men and the friends and side characters. I can't tell you how excited I am already for the next book in there series!

If you want a palate cleanser with an MM cosy romance and some characters' depth, this is right up your alley.

The couple is very cute together. Love how Tyler and his frat bros handle his sexuality, it's refreshing. Ethan was a little fucked in the head from all the trauma, poor guy. I really hate Ryan, Cher and Tyler's Mom; however, Sylas and Gavin, and Tyler's Dad, make up for it 🫶🏻

Now, I did read the reviews before writing mine, and I agree with most of them... this book has a lot of potential but needs a good editor. From typos and missing punctuation to repetition of scenes, this book has a lot that could be better.

I have to admit, I read it with TTS (text-to-speech), and maybe that's why it didn't irk me as badly, so I'm able to give a higher rating than I usually would for this quality of a book.

Overall, the plot idea was nice. It gave me the feeling I was looking for. However, the execution may have failed. I really hope the author reads the reviews and decides to fix those small errors. It will really help the book's rating.

As a debut novel, Trick or Treat, Nurse at My Feet is a sweet and charming MM romance with just the right amount of Halloween flair. Tyler, the frat vice president, finds himself constantly drawn to Ethan, a nursing student trapped in a toxic relationship—and their “meet-cute” moment, when Ethan’s awful boyfriend literally shoves him into Tyler’s arms, couldn’t be more perfect.

I really enjoyed the frat house atmosphere and how the author captured both the brotherly camaraderie and the tension of escaping a controlling partner. The toxic ex’s obsession with seeing Ethan happy with Tyler added a nice thrill to the otherwise lighthearted story. I also loved the drag queen appearance—it gave the story a burst of fun energy.

While the book isn’t deeply emotional and still feels a bit rough around the edges, it’s a solid and promising debut. Sarah Jayne shows plenty of potential, and this story proves she knows how to balance sweetness and tension. It’s not a jaw-dropper, but it’s definitely a cozy, feel-good read for those who like their romances a little lighter.

It's very nice overall, found family, supportive frat-guys, but there are some things and mistakes that are a bit... well.

- Tyler wondering who that nurse student was, mentioning his name which he still doesn't know

- The worst insult being "experiment", which, yes, might hurt the most but isn't very creative when used x-times in a row.

- Ethan showed textmessages from his ex, which he had already deleted

- Repeating stuff when you can't drive home a point but pretending as if you had added more to the explanation

- Cher's actions in the last chapters seem deliberate and Tyler wonders and goes away but then she shows up again and it's the same again but he acts as if it's a first that she acted suspicious

- Saying the best friend uses different alias for the shit-ex but making him reuse an old one in the next scene and again and again

- Having Ethan interact with frat guys but later on introducing them as if they had never met before

- Ethan sabotaging himself and the relationship

Review: Trick or Treat Nurse at my Feet

What I loved:

* Love the chapter titles, premise and cover.

* There’s great character chemistry, love Sylas, I wish he was my friend! The names he comes up with for Ryan are funny and creative.

* The writing flows well, pacing mostly good (more on that below), and it was funny and entertaining.

* Meatloaf as a pretend safe word is hilarious!

What I think could have been improved:

The story definitely could have used some editing (or a couple of beta readers). There’s numerous grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors, as well as continuity issues and repetition.

Character wise, I really empathised with Ethan. Who hasn’t dated a Ryan that destroyed their self esteem? I’ve dated several. I can also empathise with how Ethan doesn’t trust in his good fortune at first, he still thinks he’s being pranked or played. I’m glad he learned to trust Tyler by the end. I loved Tyler. He was such a sweetheart. A little naive perhaps—taking Ethan to meet his parents when he knows a) his mum ‘needs time to process’ his new orientation, and b) Ethan is already anxious about their relationship was a bit silly, but he’s a 20 year old college kid so I’ll cut him a break.

Pacing was generally good, except for the chapters where events from the previous chapter were rehashed from the other MMC’s POV. I think it’s better to keep the plot moving forward and avoid rehashing the same events/conversations twice. It doesn’t add anything to the story, and you can always find other ways to explain the other MMC’s thoughts/feelings/reaction to it without copying and pasting the whole thing again.

I thought it was a missed opportunity that the reader didn’t get to be a part of the conversation when Tyler told his mum he’s bisexual and dating a man. That was a huge part of his conflict/arc, I think it should have been included. I was told rather than shown that the mother was difficult, this phone call would have been the perfect example of that and a great segue to the dinner with Tyler’s parents.

The antagonists:

I felt Cher and Ryan were a little one dimensional. What were their motivations for messing with Tyler and Ethan’s relationship to that extreme? I thought their characters, particularly Cher’s, could have used fleshing out. Ryan was closeted and manipulative, but this escalated quite quickly to stalking and violence after their breakup. Why was he trying so hard to win Ethan back? As for Cher, I have no idea what her motivations were, and I didn’t get a sense of her character beyond her being a stereotypical evil ex girlfriend. Why was she trying so hard to get back together with Tyler? The best protagonists are ones you can understand, even empathise with. I don’t know anything about Cher. Does she want the family name? The prestige? Is she just batsh*t? I need that background, baby!

Overall, I enjoyed this story and would recommend it.

Oh, one last thing: the epilogue spoils who all the other frat boys end up with! Maybe this was intentional, but it kinda ruined my curiosity for future books in the series when I could see who the other frat guys were married to :( I was sad too, I thought Gavin would end up with Sylas!! Would have loved a romance between a golden retriever athletic giant with a sassy drag queen theatre kid.

I really wanted to love this! I was in the mood for a cozy, seasonal romcom, I even made tea and cracked open the ARC on October 1st, ready to dive in. Unfortunately, this one needed editing—developmental, line, all of it.

It’s a debut novel, and I do think there’s a solid story buried under the messiness, but it just didn’t come through for me. What was meant to be a laugh-out-loud romcom felt overdone. Comedy in books is tricky, and in this case, less would’ve been more. It felt like every single sentence was trying to land a 'zinger' (idk lol).

The prologue and first chapter could’ve been trimmed down a lot, and the humor would’ve been more effective if sprinkled throughout instead of stacked back-to-back.

I think this book has real potential, but it needed a bit more polish before publishing.

4.5 rounded up

Very cute debut. I loved the premise of this book, and the side characters were wonderful (really hope Sylas gets his own book!). 5 stars for the characters and overall storyline. Where the book fell short a bit was in the editing - there were numerous instances where the continuity faltered. For instance, in one of the first chapters Tyler refers to Ethan by name, then a few sentences later says he does not know his name. Similarly, later in the story, Ethan acts like he is meeting Cher (Tyler's ex) for the first time, despite them already having several confrontations earlier in the book.

Overall though I still really enjoyed this story. With a bit more editing I think it could have been amazing, and I'll definitely still pick up the next entires in the series.

DNF 59%. I've learned my lesson - halloween themed romance is not gonna be good.

This book was my third try and it failed horribly. i think I have notes on every page of repetitiveness, misspellings, missing punctuation, inconsistencies, weird timelines, time jumps. I'm not sure how anyone got through this book. My final straw was them running into the ex gf and she was surprised they Tyler was with a man even though he'd told her over and over and she knew? This is the tip of the iceberg in me wondering if the author forgot what she wrote.

the story wasn't even that great, very surface level and the writing seemed....lackluster. started off fine and I always like crazy exes but nothing was consistent or made much sense.

Trick or Treat, Nurse at My Feet was such a fun and heartwarming read! From the very first chapter, I couldn’t stop smiling. The story has this perfect mix of humor, sweetness, and cozy charm that just made me feel good inside.

I loved how the characters felt so real and endearing — their chemistry, the little moments of banter, and the warmth that tied everything together. It gave me that fluttery, happy feeling you get when a story wraps you up like a blanket on a chilly night.

By the end, I was grinning and a little emotional, wishing there were more pages to read. It’s the kind of book that leaves you with a full heart and a big smile.
