Your Place Is Here Now: 10 Tales of Horror and the Supernatural

Rate this book
“Your place is here now.” It sounds like an invitation. It’s actually a command.

In this collection of horrors, Jason Fischer turns familiar spaces into deadly

A dinner with a new “mother” who wasn’t invited. A Halloween visitor offers a treat you must not refuse. A puzzle book that predicts your future—and takes its cut. A cardboard cutout boy that won’t stay where it’s put. A dark carnival ride with no power runs perfectly on what you fear most.

These and other tales of folk, psychological, and elevated horror converge on one your place is here now. Take your seat.

Jason Fischer's new anthology "Your Place Is Here Now" reads like a lost season of The Twilight Zone - with a creepy edge. Each story a slow spiral into unease where everyday settings twist into dark, mind-bending nightmares. Jason Fischer blends psychological tension and quiet dread with sharp, immersive storytelling, creating worlds that feel familiar until the floor drops away. (You will never look at dolls the same way again.) Fans of unsettling anthologies or classic psychological thrillers will find themselves hooked, unsettled, and eager for the next chilling story. I know I was.

After reading this author's other book, I couldn't wait for this one. This is 5 stars all the way from the first story to last. There are big themes in this book, like loss and fear of the unknown, to moments that made the horror fan in me shudder in the best way. My favorite is the last story, Tendencies. It's such a great take on a serial killer (and he kills) with a great ending.

Your Place Is Here Now by Jason Fischer is a haunting, emotionally resonant novella that blends post-apocalyptic horror with deeply human storytelling. Fischer crafts a surreal landscape where memory, identity, and survival intertwine, pulling the reader into a world both disorienting and poignant. It’s a striking, genre-bending work that lingers long after the final page.

Creepy, clever, and impossible to put down. Each of the ten tales brings its own eerie atmosphere and unexpected twist, from classic ghost chills to modern supernatural surprises. Jason Fischer builds tension beautifully - stories are short enough to binge yet linger long after the last page. A must-read for anyone who loves smart, spine-tingling horror.

Got the paperback as soon as it came out, and I can't say enough good things about it. I loved all of the stories, but the first one, Involuntary Dependent, is by far one of the best stories I've read. This book is deeply unsettling, and boy, it creeps up on you. Highly recommend!

Excellent! I'd give it 6 stars if I could. It's well written and engaging. You are really drawn into the world of these characters, which is impressive for short stories. This book has everything a horror fan could want. Recommend!

1.5 stars. The stories were ok, two out of the 10 caught my attention where I was turning pages faster than the other chapters but were shorter than the others and the endings to tie everything together were about one sentence.

Great Horror Stories

There was only one story in the entire book that I couldn’t finish because I couldn’t follow it. All the rest were outstanding and scary. I highly recommend this book. The story lines are unique and compelling.

I couldn’t stop reading these stories! They reminded me very much of Joe Hill and Ray Bradbury. Highly recommended!

A darkly captivating collection that blurs the lines between reality and nightmare. Fischer's storytelling is crisp, eerie, and completely absorbing. 10/10 recommend.

I received a copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you to both Velox Books and the author, Jason Fischer.

This was my first experience with both the author and publisher, and I can say right now that I would add both to my TBR list. There are ten stories in this collection, ranging from chilling (“Tendencies”, “How Lovely Are Thy Branches”), to poignant (“A Choice In The Matter”), and hopeful (“Balzar’s Last Act”). Some, like “Next In Line”, made me think of classic Twilight Zone. (And if I had to pick a favorite, it would be this one for that very reason). I would recommend this book to other horror fans.
