The harrowing truths of trauma, the scars that get left behind, and the hollowing nature of devastation is what gets explored within this story. The angst, the depression, and otherwise real effects portrayed masterfully as well as the very real desire for revenge and redemption-even if not for self but in another that takes notice and chooses to endure for the sake of another. That even through the broken and scarred parts of the past, or that which resides within oneself, there is hope for another to love them all the same.

This is a thoroughly well written story and masterful in the way it was expressed or rather perfectly executed. There were details woven in that was astounding to witness and the female main character was well developed; her emotional arc expertly delivered. Great mental health representation and it was cathartic and realistic in its own way even through the story's use of creative liberties. There is a gritty rawness there that brings to surface a depth that usually gets easily discarded or disassociated from. I knew right away that I was going to like this story after I started to read it.

Through dark romance elements and morally grey characters, there is a love story that rivals all others in the twisted but effective way that presents to help the main character be present, face their demons, experience a better way, as well as recalibrate the way to act; without changing the nature of who she has become while also allowing for a future for her to live. Despite him being the man who was ordered to kill her, he was truly the 'tall dark and deadly' man that was perfect for the job- not the one he was hired for, but to be the one person for her she inadvertently needed.

The toughest part for me was how to express this review, because this story was so much more than just it was good and I loved it. May not be suitable for everyone and I do encourage checking those trigger warnings! I am thankful this book was brought to my attention and in getting the chance to read it in advance. For those who may have been through stuff themselves and wish they had it in them to rebel or hold that understanding of angst and know your soul needs a certain level of depth explored, I recommend this book to you wholeheartedly.

honestly don’t think I could have loved this book more. From the very first chapter, Harlow grabbed my attention and refused to let go. It perfectly blends action, suspense, revenge, and romance into a story that had me completely invested from beginning to end.

Harlow is an incredible FMC. She’s resilient, fierce, and determined to take back the power that was stolen from her. Despite everything she’s endured, she never loses her strength, and I found myself rooting for her every step of the way.

Then there’s Lynx… what a book boyfriend. He’s a ruthless hitman with a surprisingly protective heart, and the way he cared for Harlow while respecting her strength made me fall for him almost instantly. Their chemistry is electric, and the banter between them had me smiling just as much as the intense moments had me holding my breath.

The slow-burn romance was done so well. Every interaction built the tension, making every payoff feel earned. Add in the revenge plot, unexpected twists, and primal play, and I was completely hooked.

Tropes I loved:

* Enemies to lovers
* Hitman MMC
* Priest’s daughter
* Age gap
* Forced proximity
* Revenge
* Primal play
* Slow burn
* Protective, possessive MMC

Dark, messy and completely unhinged, just how I like my dark romance books.

This book is more then just the words written on the page. It deals with a lot of dark themes, depression, mental health issues, PTSD, attempted suicide (on page), trauma etc... This book won't be for everyone so please read the trigger warnings before you start.

I was engaged in this story from start to finish. I really love Harlow's character, she is flawed but a fighter, she is strong and survivor. She is a very complex character and A.D. Wilde did a fantastic job writing her character. I enjoyed watching her Character develop and grow throughout the book.

"Six, five, four, three, two, one, breath" The best repetitive line in the whole book.

Lynx is egotistical, overly confident, completely unhinged but what I love about him is that when he makes mistakes, he owns up to them and apologizes. He is so far from perfect but he is the perfect man for her.

* Enemies to Lovers
* Trauma Rep
* Possessive MMC
* Hitman MMC
*Religious Manipulation
*Revenge Plot
*Age Gap

If you enjoy a good revenge story line and your stories on the darker side you will probably really enjoy this this book.

From the very first page, diving into Lynx and Harlow’s story was an absolute blast. This book is the ultimate fast-paced, unputdownable page turner that keeps you completely locked in and constantly guessing what's going to happen next. Harlow is a phenomenal protagonist, and I utterly adored her strength; watching her bloom, reclaim her narrative, and take back her power was incredibly empowering and satisfying to witness. Then there's Lynx, he is exactly the flavor of protective, possessive asshole that makes me completely swoon.
The author strikes a perfect balance here, delivering just the right amount of high stakes plot and delicious spice to keep the momentum going without either element overshadowing the other. Because the chemistry and the storyline blend so seamlessly, the chapters just fly by. This happens to be my very first introduction to this author's work, and after such a stellar experience, I am officially hooked and cannot wait to dive into the rest of her works!

This book is really good. A stripper and the hitman hired to kill her, what could possibly go wrong. I definitely recommend you pick this one up and see for yourself. It’s got all the good stuff. Blood, tension and spice and so much more.

Received an ARC copy for an honest review.

Here’s a smoother version that keeps your enthusiasm and authentic voice:

I had a great time reading this book! It was incredibly entertaining and kept me hooked from start to finish. It’s definitely a dark read and can be very heavy at times, so be sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in.

I absolutely loved Linx. He was sweet in his own way while still being brutally ruthless when he needed to be. Harlow was such a badass—she went through absolute hell, but she never let it break her. I loved their banter, and their chemistry was fantastic.

The story moved at a great pace, keeping me engaged the whole way through. The romance was well written and felt raw, authentic, and believable rather than over-the-top. It also struck a nice balance without overshadowing the plot. The ending was satisfying, and I closed the book feeling really happy with how everything came together.

Highly recommend this one!

Pet names: pretty girl, little killer

Favorite quote: “Because even the greatest warriors need rest."

AD Wilde does it yet again. This was dark and depraved and so goddamn sad. There are few things I love more than banter in my books. If the MMC and FMC (in this case) can make me laugh while also rooting for them and feeling the tug? Kismet. Lynx and Harlow had a pull from the very beginning.

For being so hard and deadly, Lynx was so generous, kind, patient. His heart was pure and I'm not taking any arguments about that.

Did I cry? Maybe but you read the one scene... you'll know the one... and try not to shed a tear.

Definitely read the content warnings, this is very dark with some very difficult content including SA and torture under the guise of religion.

Again, I really enjoyed this book and it was fun to get to hear from Sloane as well!

~♡~ ARC REVIEW ~♡~

I just want to start off by saying this is everything I have been looking for since Lights Out and Butcher & Blackbird. I'm a big fan of dark romances that also make me giggle and Harlow did that for me. I mean, she pulls a gun on him and he calls her beautiful. He stalks her and falls for her while also trying to convince himself to follow through with his contract and it just works.
Harlow is a messy complex character, but she feels so relatable. Lynx is your standard tall dark and handsome.
I loved these two and following their story. The writing was done well, the pacing felt right and it honestly came like a movie in my mind, it just flowed well. It's made me go back and make a list of all A.D's books so I can get to know the author well because this book is a solid 4.5 stars for me and I cannot wait to read more.

Wow this book had me eating it up in record time, I just couldn’t put it down! Poor Harlow has been through so much and it’s crazy to say you’re rooting for her morally gray hit man to help give her vengeance. The character development wasted no time and I enjoyed how authentic it showed trauma with coping mechanisms and explained therapy advice/medical advice realistically. There was also a big reveal twist towards the end that had me reeling!!! Definitely not what I expected at all and I loved not being able to guess ahead of time.

Lynx and Harlow had the best banter, this is a dark book but the author always manages to make me laugh or kick my feet while reading conversations between the two characters. I definitely recommend this book!!! Just make sure you check the trigger warnings first to make sure this is your *dark* cup of tea 💕🥰

Lynx and Harlow what a combo from the first "hello, pretty girl to the last just pure choas and perfection.

I will say check those trigger warnings but know the trauma is not between Lynx and Harlow.

I really loved Lynx the hired hit man who just doesn't do a great job with his hit this time. When she spits Harlow he just knows something isn't right.

Harlow is a bit af a hot mess from tire slashing to gun pointing, she's not about to roll over and take it without a fight.

The ending was everything I needed from this book and Lynx having his own realization and growth. I couldn't ask for more.

Check those warnings then dive in because this a wild ride.

I was intrigued from the first chapter and had a hard time putting this book down. The plot was so engaging and I loved the MMC and FMC and their growing relationship.

Harlow is definitely a fighter and Lynx was obsessed and possessive, but also sweet and supportive. The banter between the two had me laughing at times, and their chemistry (and the spice) was so good!

Definitely check the trigger warnings before reading. Some parts of this book were difficult to read and I was so angry for Harlow and the others. I feel like the mental anguish that Harlow dealt with was realistic for someone with her experiences and I appreciated the realistic approach to mental health care.

This was my first read by AD Wilde and I’ve already added the rest of her books to my TBR. I highly recommend.

OMG!! Guys! This book will blow you right out of the cemetery!

I’ve been patiently waiting for this book and A.D did not disappoint not that she ever! There’s just something in her books that like crack and you never wanna put it down!

Harlow is a strong bad ass woman and needs no man to save her! Lynx is hired to end her life, but there’s just something about this stubborn woman that makes him want to give everything up and protect her. She’s his little killer, his pretty girl and no matter what she says, he’s not gonna take no for an answer.

That plot twist at the end tho! Y’all I had my suspicions but did not see that coming at all! 🤯

i was sooo excited for this but there were some parts that fell a little flat for me. i did love the hitman trope but it was a little fast for me. i do love a little more of a slow burn instead of insta love. i loved the way ad wilde wrote harlows trauma and how the mmc handled it but like we love a women with rage and gets her revenge

"Panic attack are not a weakness. They're a normal human response to stress. What matters is that you find a way to move through those attacks and carry on with life. Which, despite all odds clearly being stacked against you, is exactly what you have done. You're the strongest women I know, Harlow. And I say that with my whole chest."

First and foremost: This story explores dark themes, some quite heavy, and I would like to urge you to read the trigger warnings before picking up the book. Mental health and all, don’t raw dog it unless you are cynical millennial powered by cafeine, spite and dark humour.

Now that it’s out of the way.

The story took a moment to truly hook me. Harlow, at first, annoyed me, her attitude mostly. I had the sense she had heavy shit in her past, but it wasn’t until mid-book that I understood, and suddenly, everything made sense.

Lynx on the other hand, I liked the guy, I loved the fact he was patient when he needed to be, that he gave her all the power, let her set the pace while also helping her get out of her comfort zone.

It felt good to see the ending, to finally watch karma (and mostly a giant hitman) deal with the monsters of Harlow’s past.

Revenge is better served cold.
This story is good for those who have been through a traumatic experience and who wish someone had helped them get back at them.

Harlow is fierce, strong, incredibly resilient, and has endless sass. When she runs into Lynx her instincts flare with awareness. What Lynx doesn’t expect is for all of her pushback to result in obsession. Harlow has an insanely traumatic history, but he does not stop trying to work through her walls and learn how to show up for her. This book had a beautiful representation of consent after trauma, the importance of knowing that healing isn’t linear, and that overcoming and healing are powerful and well worth it.

Excuse me Mrs. Wilde!!!! OMG! This was so damn dark and twisted, so cruel and traumatic yet soooo damn addictive!

Can we get more Mr. Tall , Dark and Deadly?! Whew and his “pretty little killer” ☠️🖤😮‍💨💖

You have outdone yourself with this. The spice is top tier soooo hot how they rewrote history. And blended so well, the plot the growth and the trauma healing all in one.

I am absolutely going to need a physical copy for all of time. 😍

I had theory on which direction this book was going to go. But I didn’t expect the last one. Harlow had been through so much from her mother passing away to abuse from bad men, she wanted revenge one way or another. Lynx the hired hot “dumb” hit man who trusted his gut and helps Harlow with her revenge. I loved the banter and the tension between these 2 it always made me wonder what Harlow was going to do next. A dark enjoyable read.

Y’all you know A.D. Wilde is one of my favorite authors and when I say she nailed this book she nailed it! It was so so sooooo good! I couldn’t put it down.

Everything in this book had me wanting more, and did she deliver. The banter, sass and chemistry these two had (even if they didn’t want to admit it) was PERFECT! I loved these two together!

Harlow is one bada$$ FMC. She went through hell and back! And after everything came out stronger. Lux was definitely something else. He’s Tall. Dark. Handsome. And Mysterious. But I loved him. The way he cared for Harlow and would bring her back! There is nothing he wouldn’t do for her!
