The Adventures of Jack the Dog: Lost in the Neighborhood follows Jack, a playful cocker spaniel who uses a wheelchair after a back injury. Jack doesn’t let that slow him down — he loves spinning tricks, chasing squirrels, and exploring the world. But one windy day, a chase with the mischievous squirrel Sammy carries Jack farther than he’s ever gone. Suddenly, he realizes he’s lost.

On his journey to find home, Jack meets George, a gentle bulldog who also knows what it’s like to feel different. Together, they face teasing, danger, and even a sly fox, discovering that courage and kindness can turn strangers into friends. By the time Jack hears his girl Lilah calling, he’s learned that sometimes what makes us unique is what makes us strong — and that adventures are always better when shared with a friend.

The Adventures of Jack the Dog: Lost in the Neighborhood is such a heartwarming story. My kids loved Jack right away — his playful spirit, his silly spins, and his determination to never give up. The story gently weaves in important lessons about inclusion, bravery, and friendship without ever feeling heavy-handed. The illustrations bring Jack’s journey to life with color and energy, and the relationship he builds with George shows children the value of accepting differences and standing by one another.

As a parent, I especially appreciated the discussion questions and activities at the end, which turned reading time into a chance for reflection and conversation. This is a book I’d happily recommend for classrooms, bedtime reading, or any child who enjoys animal adventures with heart. Jack may roll on wheels, but he’s a character who runs straight into your heart.
