Over the past few years there have been some good collections of old Agatha Christie short stories published. However, Continental Christie is the weakest one so far. There are a few good stories here, but many of them were lacklustre. A poor collection indeed.

Wat word ik toch blij van deze boekjes met voor mij vaak nog onbekende verhalen van deze grootheid!

“Country Christie: Twelve European Mysteries is 2026 short story collection published by HarperCollins featuring short stories set in Europe. Twelve short stories are included. An extract from part II of Christie's An Autobiography describing her stay at Pau is included as an introduction.”

As per Agatha Christie Wiki - Fandom.

Obviously we meet cases involving Hercule Poirot, Parker Pyne, Mr Quin, Miss Marple and those stand alone mysteries. The only qualification being they have to take place in continental Europe.
It has the added bonus of including one of the most iconic Poirot short stories “The Chocolate Box”.

This is the third in recent publications with collections of short stories, we have had Capital, Country and now Continental. Many of these short stories have been published before in anthologies before and a good number have been published separately for 99p. So to buy a collection of twelve short stories at the right price is a bargain even as in this case only five of the twelve were new stories to me.

The other obvious advantage of buying these collections is to dip into the Christie canon and find among the short stories a character you want to follow. In the past it has led me to the Harley Quinn stories and now I have an inkling that I want to read all the Parker Pyne stories.

Of course as a real fan I will read anything that involves Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. But what has surprised me has been the short stories written for their own sake like The Last Séance when gets me scurrying around for similar tales.

Look out for these sets, often at low prices on kindle and enjoy the world of Agatha Christie.

Overall rating for collection 3

Nice selection of AC short stories, overall these wee some of the more entertaining ones imo.

Problem with collections of AC stories is that they have all been published and rearranged in so many different collections/titles that even newer readers are almost certain to encounter some they have read before.

Overall though a nice set of stories that were entertaining and passed the time quickly.

Continental Christie.

A good collection of short stories by a master storyteller. Some of them felt confusing and many of them contain french sentences, which is good if you understand French, which I don't. A fine look back at an author that I haven't read in many years.
