The A Terrifying Horror Short StoryFive friends. One graveyard. A night they’ll never escape.
Danny O’Keefe and his friends only wanted a few beers, a smoke, and some ghost stories under the October moon. But when a rusted chain snaps from an old headstone, they unleash something that should have stayed buried—a centuries-old curse tied to Abigail Drear and her coven of witches.
What begins as a thrill turns into a nightmare of fog, decay, and unholy resurrection. One by one, the friends face horrors beyond dead hands clawing from the dirt, corpses animated by hunger, and the unspeakable evil of those who walk between worlds.
Will anyone survive the night? Or will they all join the Drear family in their eternal feast?
The Graveyard is a chilling short story perfect for fans of Stephen King, Clive Barker, and classic 80s and 90s horror. If you love atmospheric terror, gore, and a twist ending that lingers, this one’s for you.
The Graveyard by James Bachman had a solid horror setup—a group of friends in a graveyard accidentally unleashing something dark—but it just didn’t land for me. The characters felt flat, the scares predictable, and the ending rushed. It had the bones of a creepy story but lacked the depth or twist to make it memorable. Quick read, but not one I’d recommend unless you’re after a simple, tropey horror fix.
