And then it's just... this feeling. You have to understand... all we'd walked on for most of our lives were planks, beams, platforms... surfaces that creaked and wobbled and could give way and drop you in to the shroud.

But now, suddenly... land under our feet. The soft give of it -- grass, dirt. I can't even describe how comforting, how... safe that felt. And water! Just there... Flowing by. Not collected in rain buckets, desperately kept. The sound it made, that song...and all the life in it!

It was like coming home.

Once again Comixology have teamed up with Scott Snyder to produce a new original series. I couldn't resist giving it a go having enjoyed Clear (Comixology Originals) #1, Night of the Ghoul (comiXology Originals) #1, Canary (Comixology Originals) #1, and We Have Demons (comiXology Originals) #1. The twist this time is that the story is also written by his son, Jack.

The story is set 15 years after the spread of the deadly infection that has blighted the Earth. The shroud devoured everything in its wake leaving humanity to survive in makeshift towers built atop of diamond foundations, the only substance known to resist the darkness wave.

In one such group of towers, known as 'kits' we meet our protagonists. Barely surviving, the community has to pay a 'protection' fee to a local menace, Charon, who tells of terrors beyond the settlement, creatures born within the shroud, which he alone can keep at bay.

Having found a mysterious stranger collapsed at the foot of their settlement; he tells of a natural formation of 'black diamond' and a sanctuary for all those who can get there. Intrigued, the gang set off with their new 'friend' in tow. Soon they discover that Charon's warnings were true as they come up close to the leviathans living within the shroud.

Having survived being used as a pawn in the fierce rivalry between Charon and Rowan, the stranger they trusted, the gang escape to only crashland on the mysterious black diamond island where new dangers await.

Faced paced again and we learn a bit about the inhabitants of the island. Much better overall, but oddly short. Felt more of an interim issue and I have to mark it down slightly due to that. 4 3/4 stars.

Awesome discovery

The new season of adventure has taken a sweet turn as land is discovered in this dystopian world. Safety and tranquility seem to be the buzz word but is there a snake in Eden. Great follow-up and the adventure continues with new discoveries and revelations while the past is still trying to reach out for our young team of adventurers.
Full steam ahead.
