Shawn Allen's "52," his debut chapbook, was written to capture moments in time with all their glory, beauty and flaws. Consisting of poetry, flash fiction and "meditations." it's a look inside the mind of a storyteller with a raw and unusual view of the human spirit. By turns poignant, inspirational, celebratory and occasionally arrogant, the pieces in "52" strive to expose the naked eyes of Life gazing into our hearts. Sometimes intensely personal, yet always grounded in universal experience, no emotion or circumstance is censored or off-limits. Restlessness, longing, friendship, love and a splash of whimsy - all these and others are represented. The title refers to the number of pieces in the work, the author's age and, coincidentally, the number of weeks in the year.
