Pregnant and confused, seventeen-year-old Daphne Blake goes to Lincoln, Ohio, where she takes a job as a waitress and finds a circle of friends that support her and help her come to several weighty decisions
This author is not afraid to tackle difficult subjects: living with a deaf parent (Of Sound Mind), facing the consequences of a criminal act (Bad), or questioning one's sexuality (Eight Seconds). But Jean Ferris is also adept at writing comedy, historical fiction, and romance. What's most interesting is that she didn't publish her first novel until she was in her mid-40s. Yet she's never forgotten the intense feelings and changes of her own teenage years. Critics as well as teen readers have seen the evidence of that in her writing and have honored her novels with a number of awards, from Best Books for Young Adults to various state and National Book Award nominations.
it took me awhile to find this book i remembered from when i was a kid. re-reading it made me smile because i've always liked stories about eclectic self-made families.
one of the best books I've read in a while. none of that kissing or freaky stuff. the ending was beautiful too. shoutout to Mattie, t peter, and junior lee for stepping up to help daphne raise her baby. friends like them are a must.
Period:2 Diana Villasana I enjoyed the aspects of the book very much because a brave young adult took responsibility of her actions and moved away from from her hometown to be independent. Daphne put aside college to take care of herself and her baby on the way and was determined to do it on her own, she made a choice of giving her baby up for adoption.
My classmates would enjoy reading this book because it's about 17 year old Daphne who leaves her abusive home to be independent and deal with her pregnancy. She didn't trust anyone that crossed her path but little did she know that T.Peter, Junior Lee, and Mattie would greatly impact her life and make he realize what true love really means, by being there for her when her family wasn't,
I would recommend this book to other people because it's mainly about a teenaged girl struggling through life, independently due to her actions. She works really hard to provide for herself economically, along the way she meets 3 new people that help he out through her pregnancy and adoption papers. Daphne get attached and close to them. And realizes that love has no limits, her friends want her to keep the baby and agreed to help her and be there for her.
I don't usually re-read books. I have read this book at least 4 times. It's the kind of book that stays with you, but you want to keep reading over and over anyway--thanks to it's lovable, quirky characters. "Looking for Home" holds the beautiful message that family is not about bloodlines, but about love.
I first read this book when I was a teenager and it's stuck with me ever since. To find it on my bookshelf again I just had to read it again and it didn't disappoint
