Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC of A Summer Wedding at Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope in exchange for my honest review.
It was such a joy to return to Pennycress Inn once again. This series always feels like a warm hug, full of charming characters, beautiful scenery, and stories that completely pull you in from the very first page. Sarah Hope has created such a comforting world, and every visit to the Inn feels like catching up with old friends.
This time the story follows Ellie, who is trying to rebuild her life after everything seems to fall apart at once. Her boyfriend has cheated on her and left her with almost nothing, her business partnership has collapsed, and she’s trying to prove herself by launching her own wedding planning business. I really felt for Ellie and loved watching her slowly regain her confidence and independence throughout the story.
I also really enjoyed the second chance romance between Ellie and Murray. Their history together added so much emotional depth to the story, and I loved the tension, unresolved feelings, and tender moments between them as they were forced back into each other’s lives. Murray’s return to the village definitely brought back plenty of emotions for Ellie, and I found myself rooting for them the entire time.
The setting was absolutely gorgeous as always. The cosy village atmosphere, the beautiful countryside, and all the wedding preparations made this such a lovely, comforting read. I especially loved seeing familiar faces from previous books again and catching up with Laura and Jackson while the wedding plans unfolded.
Overall, this was another heartwarming and uplifting addition to the Pennycress Inn series. It’s full of friendship, fresh starts, romance, and community spirit, making it the perfect feel good escape. If you love cozy small town romances, second chance love stories, and books that leave you smiling, I would definitely recommend this one.
There is something deeply comforting about a Sarah Hope book, and A Summer Wedding at Pennycress Inn felt exactly like curling up with a warm scone and a cup of tea while your life quietly gets itself together.
Ellie is one of those heroines you instantly root for. Her life has spectacularly fallen apart — terrible ex, career disaster, finances hanging by a thread — and yet she keeps going with stubborn optimism and a wedding planner’s emergency smile permanently glued to her face. Honestly, the woman deserves a medal and a nap.
What I loved most was how grounded the romance felt. Murray isn’t some impossibly perfect romantic hero sweeping in with grand gestures every five minutes. Their history is messy, unresolved, and full of all the things that make second-chance romances hurt so good. Every interaction between them carried years of unfinished feelings, and the tension simmered beautifully under all the wedding chaos and countryside charm.
And speaking of charm: the Cotswolds setting absolutely understood the assignment. Pennycress Inn practically becomes its own character — cosy gardens, flowers everywhere, village gossip, fairy-light wedding energy… I wanted to move in immediately and never leave.
The pacing is gentle rather than dramatic, but it works because the book leans fully into emotional healing, community, and rediscovering yourself after heartbreak. It’s less about shocking twists and more about watching Ellie slowly rebuild a life she actually wants. The side characters added so much warmth too — nosy in the best possible small-town way.
Also, can we appreciate a romance where adults actually talk through old wounds instead of creating chaos for no reason? Revolutionary.
If you love: 💐 second-chance romance 💐 cosy village settings 💐 wedding chaos 💐 emotional healing arcs 💐 grumpy-but-soft carpenters 💐 Hallmark-movie energy with more emotional depth
I'm giving A Summer Wedding at Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope a 3-star review. ⭐⭐⭐ This was a sweet, cozy escape to the countryside, perfect for fans of weddings and new beginnings, though it didn't quite sweep me off my feet. A huge thank you to NetGalley, the author Sarah Hope, and the publisher Boldwood Books for providing this eARC! All opinions expressed are entirely my own. The Review The story follows the charming setting of Pennycress Inn, a place that feels like a character all on its own. As the name suggests, the plot centers around the preparations for a high-stakes summer wedding, bringing together a cast of characters dealing with their own pasts and futures. It’s a gentle exploration of community and second chances, wrapped in a floral, wedding-themed bow. The Good There is so much to love about the atmosphere of this book, as the author does a wonderful job of bringing the idyllic Pennycress Inn to life with vivid, sensory descriptions that make you want to book a stay there immediately. The wedding planning elements are delightful and will surely appeal to anyone who enjoys the "behind-the-scenes" chaos and beauty of big events. Additionally, the sense of community is heartwarming, and the supporting characters provide a lovely, supportive backdrop to the central romance. The Not So Good However, the pacing of the story felt a bit uneven, with certain sections of the wedding preparation dragging on while the actual emotional climaxes felt somewhat rushed toward the end. The central conflict between the leads also felt slightly repetitive, as the same misunderstandings seemed to crop up multiple times without significant evolution in their communication. While it was a pleasant read, it lacked that extra spark or "wow" factor that would have pushed it into a higher rating for me.
A Summer Wedding at Pennycress Inn is a beautifully uplifting escape, full of sunshine, second chances, and the quiet courage it takes to rebuild a life from the pieces left behind. Ellie arrives in the Cotswolds hoping for a fresh start—new business, new home, new chapter—and Sarah Hope captures that fragile optimism with such warmth. You can feel her trying to steady herself, to believe that this time things might finally go right. Of course, life has other plans. When her ex walks away with almost everything she owns, Ellie’s hard‑won confidence wobbles, and the Pennycress wedding becomes her last lifeline. The inn, with its soft bustle and gentle charm, is the perfect backdrop for her to find her footing again. And then Murray walks back into her world—the first love she never quite managed to forget.
Their reunion is handled with a lovely tenderness. There’s history in every glance, every awkward conversation, every moment where old hurt brushes up against new hope. Watching Ellie juggle demanding clients, unexpected revelations, and the slow rekindling of something she thought she’d lost forever gives the story its emotional heartbeat.
What makes this instalment so delightful is its balance: cozy village life, a dash of romantic tension, and a heroine who feels wonderfully real—flawed, hopeful, and braver than she realises. The Pennycress Inn once again becomes a place where people find not just love, but themselves.
Warm, wholesome, and full of heart, A Summer Wedding at Pennycress Inn is a perfect comfort read for anyone who believes that sometimes the best beginnings come after the hardest endings.
With thanks to Sarah Hope, the publisher and netgalley for the ARC
A Summer Wedding at Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope was such a sweet, comforting read. It has that cozy countryside romance feeling that makes you want to curl up with a cup of tea and escape into a charming little village for a while.
I really liked Ellie as the main character. Her life has completely fallen apart- her relationship, her business, her finances- but she still keeps trying to move forward and rebuild something for herself. I loved watching her slowly regain her confidence and start to believe that she could create a life that was actually hers.
The second-chance romance with Murray was also really lovely. Their history gave the story a lot of emotional depth, and I liked that their relationship wasn’t overly dramatic just for the sake of it. There was hurt, hesitation, and unresolved feelings, but also a lot of tenderness and growth. I found myself rooting for them pretty quickly.
The setting was one of my favorite parts. Pennycress Inn felt warm, charming, and full of life, with all the wedding planning, village friendships, and cozy countryside details. It gave the whole book a feel-good, Hallmark-movie kind of energy, but with enough emotional weight to make it more meaningful.
Overall, this was a heartwarming and uplifting story about fresh starts, second chances, community, and finding your way again after heartbreak. It was gentle, cozy, romantic, and exactly the kind of book to pick up when you want something comforting and sweet.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
A SUMMER WEDDING AT PENNYCRESS INN by SARAH HOPE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A Summer Wedding At Pennycress Inn is the fourth (#4) book in the PENNYCRESS INN series.
After Ellie’s long term relationship ends ( and she’s left with pretty much the four walls around her), and her job implodes, she decides to strike out with her own wedding planning business.
Busy organising her very first wedding at Pennycress Inn, imagine her astonishment when the carpenter working at the Inn is none other than Murray - the man who broke her heart many years ago when he walked away.
Struggling to arrange the perfect wedding for her clients, coping with the state of her life and fighting residual feelings she has for Murray, nothing runs smoothly for Ellie. As time passes it appears that Ellie and Murray can move forward but the path of true love has never run smooth……
——————————————
A Summer Wedding At Pennycress Inn, is a quaint, gentle, village romance. There’s no open door spice, just a sweet, tender love story with a smidgen of angst thrown in.
The characters are well written and relatable, their chemistry is undeniable. There are also plenty of interesting side characters as befitting a small, close knit village.
It has an interesting story with some angst.
With around 280 pages, an evocative illustrated cover and good editing.
With thanks to Sarah Hope, Boldwood books and NetGalley for an early chance to read this book. All comments are my own, honest and unbiased opinion.
💒 Second Chance 💒 Small Town Romance 💒 Closed Door 💒 Spice Free
I was drawn into this storyline straight away with Ellie having a puncture and who should come along and at first complain but an old flame of hers. Ellie is feeling emotionally drained as her ex has emptied their home of almost all her possessions and she doesn't know where to turn, but it turns out she knows Murray from years ago, will this be the start of a new romance? But when Rick ( her ex) starts accusing her of having Murray as a third person in their relationship, she just doesn't know what to think! Is she going to be able to sort out not only her relationship problems but also her work related problems so that the wedding of Laura and Jackson can go ahead as planned. She has lots on her plate with sorting out her own wedding planner business can she sort out her own love life too?
A lovely feel-good storyline as the previous books in this series set around Pennycress Inn were too, you can read this as a stand-alone but if you read the previous books it gives you an insight into the characters and village. Altogether a heartwarming story and a five-star read from me, just the book to immerse yourself into on holiday or relaxing in your garden.
Ellie Newton is ready to put her mind and complete focus into a wedding she is planning, the Pennycress wedding. She left her wedding planning job that she co-owned with her friend Melissa after a mistake was made and Melissa fully blamed Ellie. She is also healing from a seven year relationship with Rick, who broke up with her because he didn't love her anymore. While on her way to the town to get settled in she runs into her ex Murray. He doesn't seem like the old Murray she once dated and she's been keeping her distance from him. She soon finds out she will be working in close proximity to Murray since he is the carpenter working at the Pennycress Inn which is run by the bride-to-be Laura.
It always feels good to be back at Pennycress. The scenery is breathtaking, the characters are likeable and the story is pure joy. I enjoyed Ellie's character so much. She was resilient but always kind hearted and was such a joy to read. That Rick was a piece of work and I couldn't stand him. Now it took me a while to like Murray. He seemed angry and very pushy at the beginning but he eventually grew on me. A beautiful cozy read with small town romance.
Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this eARC. All opinions are entirely my own.
Another fantastic instalment to the Pennycress Inn series. In this book we follow Ellie as she restarts not only her personal life but the business side of her life too. Her boyfriend Rick has cheated on her and Ellie comes home to find her cottage entrance filled with bags n boxes of his belongings and Rick himself carrying even more items, when he leaves she finds her has not only left her but also left her with nothing - he has completely gutted the property taking everything except her corner sofa, the toilet roll holder and her clothing. When I say everything, I mean literally everything and it’s all so he can start again with his new bit of stuff who also cheated on her partner but in her case - her partner threw her out leaving her with nothing.
Ellie’s business partner had also turned nasty after a wedding planning went sour and sent her packing - blaming Ellie for the whole thing when in truth it was Melissa who was the one in the wrong.
The good thing to come out of this is Ellie is a very good wedding planner and moving back home is just the beginning of her new start full of potential and a cheeky sheep called Claudette.
A Summer Wedding at Pennycress Inn is such a delightful and easy read that kept me engaged from beginning to end. As the fourth installment of the Pennycress Inn series, the story follows Ellie, who is trying to rebuild her life after her long-term relationship collapses and her career falls apart. Hoping for a fresh start, she begins her own wedding planning business in the beautiful Cotswold village, only to unexpectedly cross paths with Murray — the man who once broke her heart — while preparing for a wedding at Pennycress Inn.
The characters are well developed and full of warmth, and they wonderfully give the atmosphere of a closely knitted community. The romance between the two main characters is heartwarming, while the narration is easy to follow and keeps the story flowing smoothly. I also loved the vivid descriptions of the charming Cotswolds, which added such a cozy and comforting atmosphere to the story.
I would highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy cozy small-town romances filled with charming settings, wholesome relationships, and comforting community vibes.
Lovely to be back at the inn. This time it was the turn to catch up with Ellie. Her relationship has ended and has led to her ex leaving the house they rented finally but he has taken all of the furniture even the cutlery. Turns out he was having an affair too behind her back. Ellie has also lost her work partner so is starting from scratch in all aspects of her life. Her day goes from bad to worse when she gets a flat tyre and finds herself meeting Murray her first love and the man who broke her heart 9 years before. She soon realises he is back in the village too. Ellie is planning Laura and Jackson’s wedding at the inn and she throws herself into the planning of that, Murray is also working as a carpenter at the inn too so they are bumping into each other every day too. Ellie has sparks for him to. The book focuses on Laura getting her joy back and sorting her life out too. Thank you NetGalley for the arc in exchange of an honest review.
Ellie is having a bad day: she’s been forced to quit her job, she’s got a flat tyre on her car, she’s had a surprise encounter with her first great love Murray, the man who broke her heart and to cap it all her ex-boyfriend, in moving out of their rented cottage (as agreed), has moved all their belongings as well to his new place. He did leave her one set of cutlery, one set of crockery and a loo roll holder!
Ellie has managed to keep one of her wedding planning jobs from her previous business partner and she realises why – it’s a very tight time frame, just three months and nothing has been done yet. But she’s determined to make it an amazing wedding for Jackson and Laura.
A really enjoyable, easy read which I raced through in one morning and it was good to catch up with many of the characters, especially Claudette, from the previous Pennycress Inn books.
Thanks to Net Galley and Boldwood Books for an ARC for my honest review.
Wonderful to be back in Meadowfield! Ellie's life has imploded. Her boyfriend has left and taken everything with him and she's quit her job as a partner in a wedding planning business after being accused of a mistake she didn't make. But she still has one wedding to plan, Laura and Jackson of Pennycress Inn are getting married in three months, and no planning has been done at all! Ellie needs to pull off a miracle and give them the perfect wedding while also dealing with someone from her past. Plenty of ups and downs for Ellie but a hearwarming story of love and overcoming challenges. I look forward to the next book in the series. Thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood Books, and Sarah Hope for the free ARC. All opinions are my own.
We are back 8n Pennycress Inn and the owners are getting married. It’s a short notice wedding, but wedding planner Ellie hopes she got everything in control. She’s recently lost her job and her boyfriend and is starting over. Will love blossom when her ex Murray appears back in town? It’s an easy cozy read, perfect for a summers afternoon. Set in the lovely Cotswold, the author describes the location brilliantly, the stone to the countryside. Her characters are always easy to read about, but will leave you wanting more. Love this series, 4.5 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for a copy.
Ellie has just started her own wedding planning business. Her boyfriend Rick has moved out, taking almost everything they own with him. She has one chance to launch her business, it's a wedding at Pennycress Inn. The owners have a carpenter redoing the decking, and much to Ellie's horror, it's Murray. Her first love and the man who broke her heart. I really enjoyed this book. The story flowed, and even though it was totally predictable, I loved every page. I did subtract one star for the author's overuse of the words grin and grimace. Highly recommended.
This story really does start off with Ellie having the day from hell and it takes quite some time before it gets any better. I liked Ellie but my feelings for Murray were mixed. I would have liked him to apologise for the past and his mistake in not trying for a long distance relationship or asking her to go with him. All the giving seemed to be on her side but then the story never shows his side. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another fun, easy read from Sarah Hope! This time a heart warming second- chance romance between Ellie and Murray. These two characters were fun and relatable and of course I enjoyed catching up with characters from the previous Pennycress books. Sarah's easy writing style allows the book to move quickly and yet she still captures the emotions of each character. The book left a smile on my face and much like Ellie a feeling I can achieve anything life throws at me when I set my mind to it.
I received a free copy of, A Summer Wedding at Pennycress Inn by, Sarah Hope, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book four in The Pennycress Inn series. Ellie is giving it a go as a wedding planning business, even though her love life is in tatters. This was a nice read, I liked Ellie.
Many thanks to Boldwood Books for sending me this digital copy. I absolutely adore the Pennycress Inn series and their characters. Reading about their newest members and adventures always makes me so happy, it is an instant feel good book.
If you are in for a heartwarming summer read, no spice, with very relatable characters in a cute close knit small village, this series is for you.
A second chance story set at Pennycress Inn. Ellie and Murray are having their story in this book. It is a stand alone read, but it is part of a series. I enjoy this book and the series. I would recommend it to be read. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Boldwood and leaving a review by my own choice.
I loved this book right from the first page. It was light and easy to read, great writing style . I loved the characters, Would definitely recomend this book and would read another by this author
Firstly, thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
I love this series, it's great to still catch up with previous characters as well as meet new ones. This book can be read as a stand alone too.
Ellie has just found out her ex was cheating and has left her with nothing. Murray her last love has arrived in the village, he broke her heart when he left, can she forgive him?
