Lucifer's Mirror

The Midwinter Mirror: A Lucifer's Mirror Christmas Novella

Rate this book
A standalone Christmas novella set in the world of Lucifer’s Mirror, where danger, desire, and holiday magic collide.

Bad things happen when it snows…

I grew up in Elderfell—a village buried in snow, secrets, and myths everyone treats as truth.

Except me. I don’t believe in monsters. Or magic. Or ancient portals hidden in the hills. I’m a vet student. I deal in facts, not fairytales.

Then all the village children vanish on the Winter Solstice. And to make things even weirder, Zayne—my first crush, my first heartbreak—walks back into my life.

Only he didn’t come back for me. He came back for his little sister—who’s missing, along with all the others.

He’s changed. Darker. Harder. I shouldn’t still want him, not after the way he left, not after the way I let him down. But we have to work together, because according to those old village legends, if we don’t find the missing children by Christmas morning…

They’re gone forever.

Growing up in the cold, wet, north of England, Nina Croft spent a lot of time dreaming of faraway sunnier places and ponies. When she discovered both, along with a whole load of other things, could be found between the covers of a book, her life changed forever.

Later, she headed south, picked up the perfect husband along the way, and together they volunteered to work in Africa. There they discovered a love of exotic places and a dislike of 9-5 work. Afterward they spent a number of years travelling (whenever possible) intermingled with working (whenever necessary.) Eventually they stumbled upon a remote area in the mountains of southern Spain and the small almond farm they now call home.

Nina spends her days reading, writing and riding her mare, Gencianna, under the blue Spanish skies—sunshine and ponies. She reckons this is proof that dreams really can come true if you want them enough.

Nina's writing mixes romance with elements of the paranormal and science fiction

The Midwinter Mirror is a wonderful follow up to the Lucifer’s Mirror Trilogy. Zayne returns to his birthplace, Elderfell, a place filled with mostly bad memories, except for memories of Holly. Zayne is there to collect his little sister only to find that she and eleven other village children are missing. Holly doesn’t believe in magic or the myths of the villagers but trusts Zayne. Zayne and Holly, along with Josh and Grimlet, set out to rescue the children before it’s too late.

This novella fits seamlessly with the other books of the series. While Amber and Khaosti are off doing their thing, Zayne and ‘little brother’ Josh are getting on with their lives. The way Holly fits into the story is perfection. I love this fantastic world and these amazing characters. I really hope this is not the end. I very much want to find out what’s next for all of them.

This novella was great, even if you haven't read the series yet you can understand this one perfectly ( though read in order it's always better^^)

Zayne is coming for his sister and we learn more ( or discover) his past...which make him even more lovable being so protective despite everything....However his sister is missing with all the other children ( save 1) and he will need to partner with his first love ( who does not believe in magic at all) to save her.

Holly does not believe in magic but she believes in Zayne and regret her past actions, now determined to help she must accept to open her mind and see what the world in Elderfell really is.

Really i loved it , the characters, the mystery and the right dosis of action it's a great novella with an interesting setting.

To be recommended if you want some magic this christmas season

Holly has never believed the rumors of magic in her hometown. It's one of the reasons she left home behind for college life. Well that and losing the love she shared with Zayne. He had just left....left her behind. When Holly returns for the holidays she is confronted with her lost love also being in town. The children of the town have disappeared and time is of the essence if they are going to be saved and brought home. Zayne and Holly must help one another if they want to find the children and maybe just maybe rediscover the love they once shared. Will the Winter Solstice bring joy or despair?

Great addition to the Mirror series.

We get to know more about Zayne, where he came from, what he left behind before he was in the foster home with Amber. Zayne hooks up with the girlfriend he left behind when he left Elderfell. The work together to save the children that have been taken by the hunter to the other side of a Mirror. A mirror that can only be opened by a mirror-mage, and they have all gone. Josh helps in the tale too, and even Grimlet gets in the act.

A great Christmassy tale with some added spice.

Fantastic addition to the Mirror series! This installment dives deeper into Zayne’s past where he came from, what he lost, and the life he left behind before ending up in the foster home with Amber. When he reconnects with the girlfriend he once left in Elderfell, the two join forces to rescue children taken by a hunter through a magical Mirror, one that only a mirror-mage can open, and they’ve all vanished. Josh lends a hand in the adventure, and even Grimlet gets a moment to shine. A festive, action-packed Christmas tale with a touch of spice!

What a fantastic follow up to the Lucifers Mirror trilogy this is.
Just when you thought it was over along comes this novella that goes into Zaynes back story and brings in Josh & Grimlet too!
Holly adored Zayne when he lived in Elderfell and now he’s back after the children disappeared as he’s looking for his sister. Holly joins him in the search for the missing children and the chemistry is just great.
I loved the trilogy and this is such a treat to read.

This was such a great read! I loved catching up with Zayne and Josh. Finding out what happened to his parents was a shocker. I loved meeting Holly and figuring things out with her. She is sweet but can be sassy when she needs to be. The perfect match for Zayne. I really enjoyed this book. I need more of this world!

I loved this. It was good to read about Zane, Josh and grimlet. Got to learn more about Zayne's past.
Fast paced as the problem of missing children has to be solved before Christmas morning. I just love the characters interacting with each other.

If the F word defines you....

It might have been an interesting story, I would have finished it but the insertion of the f word constantly was off putting to the point I gave up reading it.

Holly has come home to Elderfell to celebrate her birthday and Christmas with her family. Elderfell, where everyone believes in magic except her. Where she found and lost the boy she cared about. Little does she know that her whole life will change before she leaves again.

Zayne wakes in Valandria with the knowing that he needs to go to Earth, to Elderfell, to retrieve his little sister. He tries not to think about the girl he loved. The one who lied, and in the lie showed him that he had to leave Elderfell and make his own way. But nothing is exactly as it had seemed when he left the village five years ago. His sister has disappeared and his lost love may be the only one who can find her. Zayne, Holly, Josh, and Grimlet need to become heroes.

Loved that we got some backstory on Zayne. He was always a bit mysterious and secretive. Now we find out why. Can he save the day and win the girl? Well, it's a good thing Josh is with him. He's going to need all the help he can get. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
