To gain her freedom, she must first lose her mask.
Orla Blackthorn has never truly belonged among the Maidens of the Seven, devoted followers of gods who have long since abandoned them. Raised to be obedient, observant, and objective, she has spent her life hidden—behind robes, behind rules, and behind the careful mask of the Maiden she was told to be. Quietly dreaming of the wings that could carry her far from the life she didn’t choose.
When the Orb of Fate travels through her town and she is unexpectedly Chosen, everything changes.
In an instant, Orla is cast onto Trial Island, where humans once faced divine challenges to claim power and join the ranks of the hiarks. But for the last three and a half centuries, no one has survived the Trials. The island is no longer a path to glory; it is a death sentence.
To survive, Orla must endure not only the deadly Trials, but also the entanglement of new friendships and spiteful enemies, while facing new revelations about herself she never expected. As the fight wears on, she learns the Trials demand far more than strength. The Trials demand the courage to strip away the mask she has worn all her life.
There are secrets etched in her eyes, a past burned into her skin, and a fate she never saw coming. One that could allow her to finally fly free—if she’s willing to embrace who she truly is.
On Trial Island, masks shatter. And for Orla Blackthorn, the greatest trial may be deciding whether to cling to the Maiden she was told to be...or rise as the woman she was meant to become.
Seven Trials of Aloria is the debut novel by Kirsha Hutchcroft and the first in a gripping fantasy trilogy. Perfect for readers who crave epic adventures, perilous trials, divine prophecies and the unshakable power of friendship.
First I just want to say thank you to Kirsha for allowing me to be an advanced reader of her first novel. This book felt timeless and paired with a strong female lead character made this book an immediate favourite. The premise of the book is that the heroine must go through seven dangerous trials to restore balance to her land. I will say that as a reader, you must be ok with detailed world building as this is a significant chunk at the start to really set the stage for what's to come (you won't be disappointed, keep going!). The trials are physical, but I love that they also highlight courage, integrity, perseverance and honestly just being a boss woman.
I just finished The Seven Trials of Aloria by Kirsha Hutchcroft and wow, this one was a ride. It felt familiar in the best ways while still managing to stay fresh and exciting. I am giving it 4.75 out of 5 stars.
Orla Blackthorn has never felt like she belonged among the Maidens of the Seven. Raised to observe, obey, and hide behind rules and silence, her life changes the moment she is chosen by the Orb of Fate to face the deadly Seven Trials on Trial Island, a place where no one has survived in centuries. What follows is a story of danger, discovery, friendship, and betrayal that kept me completely absorbed.
Orla was such a strong lead. She begins unsure of her place in the world, timid in a way that makes her easy to connect with. Watching her growth was one of the best parts of this book. She stumbles, fears, fights, and learns to make choices for herself rather than for others. The side characters all added something valuable. Friends, rivals, and enemies each brought energy and depth, and every interaction helped move the story forward.
The pacing was quick and tight. The opening sets the tone and builds tension before the first trial begins, and from there it is a steady climb of excitement. The story never lags, and I found myself flying through pages because I needed to know what would happen next. The balance between action and emotion worked beautifully, and it was easy to stay invested throughout.
The worldbuilding deserves a mention too. The setting of Aloria feels rich and layered, filled with myths, gods, and ancient challenges that make the world feel lived in. Each trial felt unique, dangerous, and meaningful. The way the author tied lore into the action made it easy to understand without ever slowing things down.
Overall, The Seven Trials of Aloria delivered everything I look for in a fantasy adventure. It had action, heart, and a world that felt both magical and dangerous. It was thrilling, emotional, and beautifully written. I am already looking forward to the next book and to seeing where Orla’s journey leads.
Orla Blackthorn, the Maiden is chosen to enter deadly Seven Trials of Aloria by Orb of Fate. Gone to the Trial Island, preparing and training, and making along friends and enemies,it seem that trials are almost imposible to survive.Being there is only a beginning, and Orla must decide is she strong enough?
Will Orla get through Trials unsratched?
I was so exited when I start read this book, the trials were cruel and hard, yet Orla grow stronger with each one. Then someone else get inside the Orla's circle, and the way she trust and reveal all her secrets left me dumbfounded. Not even once she question his the obssesion to find Hallowed objects, and even I was suspicious of his behavior from the beginnig.Guess the hormones overtake her clear thinking. Don't want to spoil the story ,but the betrayal at the end didn't surprise me. Still the world, the new characters and the ending get me curious and I can't wait for second book.My first book by this author and hope to read more.
If you like deadly trials, action and tension, this book it's for you.
Thank you author for arc,the review is honest and my own.
5⭐️ I absolutely love a games and trials troupe in a book, and this one delivers! It's probably one of the best I've read in a while. This story gave me hints of Spark of the Everflame, Lightlark, and Hunger Games at times, but yet still stood out on its own. First, we have some pretty good epic world building. When you start a story, and it has 2 maps AND a glossary, you know the author has created something special. The trials weren't just a footnote in the story. They were front and center, well thought out and complex. Orla, the FMC, was not the instantly perfect heroine that suddenly knew how to use a sword or bow. No, she was real and believable. She was out of breath when she ran and couldn't hit a punching bag. My heart broke for her so many times in this story. This story has lots of action and is very fast-paced. However, it actually manages to have an ending that ISN'T a huge cliffhanger. Yes, that's room for the next book ( which I'm desperately wanting), but I felt good at the end.
Such a fun, unique and very immersive read. The world building is fantastic!!!! 👌🏼 After a well established first 30% there’s a shift and the story really takes off. I cannot believe this is a first book. It is beautifully written, cohesive and so descriptive. The trials were good fun!!!! It can sometimes feel like a bit of repetition but then it takes a turn and I got HOOKED!!! Can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!!!! Eeeeeeee!!! The adventure has only just begun!!!! 🥰 ✨💕
I enjoyed the debut book in The Hallowed Objects Trilogy, it contained detailed world building and the beginnings of a complex magic system. After the first third of the story which establishes the rich world of Aloria the plot then takes off introducing us to a variety of interesting characters. Following Orla’s journey of self discovery was a meaningful and impactful arc to read and I am excited to see where her journey takes her in the next book.
4.5 Stars! This book kept me enthralled the entire time. The trials were so fun and intense to read. I was squirming through some of them. I had so many questions which kept me intrigued and made it hard to put the book down. Loved the FMC and the overall vibe of this book. I definitely need more of this story!
I received this book as an ARC and already felt excited to read it the moment I saw the cover. Trials are one of my weaknesses, and this time was absolutely no exception…I just kept loving that trope! 🩶
My most memorable parts of the book are definitely all the scenes involving different kinds of action, plot twists, and characters that make you feel both ❤️🩹, 💀, ⚔️, ❤️🔥and 🌶️. And the balance between all these elements was just perfect! Such a great book!! Highly recommended!
This is truly a book for anyone who loves fantasy with subplots built around different tropes, but with a strong focus on the world, careers, and an incredibly interesting magic system ✨
I couldn’t help but think about all the different creatures that appear in this book and how much (😍) I would have loved to see them as character art/book art! 🐉🧚🏼🦎
I absolutely loved this book! The world-building was in-depth and beautifully crafted, with immersive descriptions that pulled me straight into the story. The characters felt real and layered — with plenty of room to grow in future books — which makes me even more excited to continue this journey.
While the story included some familiar tropes, they felt fresh, with a unique twist that kept things engaging and surprising. It’s clear the author has put so much thought and passion into every detail, and that dedication shines through on every page.
I also loved that the plot wrapped up in a satisfying way without relying on a frustrating cliffhanger, while still leaving me eager for what’s next. As an alpha reader, I can honestly say that for a debut novel, the author has absolutely smashed it. I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here!
Thank you Krisha and team for the ARC copy of this.
For a first novel, this isn't bad, but aspects of the world building definitely threw me out of the story more than once. For instance "pineus" trees, which just kept feeling like a typo of pine, and other renames of common animals/plants without a real reason for it, while other stuff remained the same as real life names.
The MMC reads false from the start, which I'm sure is intentional given their story arc, but makes their personal story "twist" feel unearned and too obvious. Combined with uneven pacing, it wasn't my favourite book, but if you're a fan of trials, this is worth a read, but beware it is slow off the top.
I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the author for allowing me the absolute privilege of being able to arc read her book. I truly appreciate it!
I absolutely loved this book. It was so well thought out and creative. If you love true high fantasy you're going to love this! The world building and character types were well fleshed out, it feels a little complicated at first through the glossary and the guide at the beginning, but once you're actually reading this book, everything is explained in the best way. There's a lot of showing rather than telling which I absolutely loved, and the moments where things are explained (needing to be told), they're incredible. They're not explained as thought, but as actual applicable study instances which might sound boring but you have read this book to truly grasp how genius this truly is.
Yes there are trials in this book, but they're actually the most well thought out trials I've ever read! They're creative and they actually make sense to each location, unlike a few books I've read. The twists and turns all through this book, absolutely stole my heart, one towards the end I kind of guessed at all throughout the book, but I never guessed the other twist attached to it! I also really oved watching Orla grow. I loved watching her have the opportunities to feel as though she's really living a real normal despite what her past led her too and the fact she was in the middle of the trials. I also really loved the other povs in this book. They're not scattered throughout, but they add a fantastic element you're not quite expecting that allows you to see inside everything going on, well also seeing everything going on. You'll have to read this to truly be able to grasp what I mean, but this was honestly the most creative and unexpected use of multiple povs that I've ever read!
This book honestly stole my heart. I knew I would love it based on its description but I never expected to fall for it as much as I have. I can't wait until it releases! If you're a lover of true fantasy, it is here through and through in this book and it's going to steal your heart, just like this stole mine!
Thank you so very much again from the bottom of heart for allowing me the absolute privilege of being able to arc read your book baby! I truly appreciate it! I absolutely loved it and I can't wait for it to release and for the next one!
After finishing this book, I’m riding a wave of emotions.
First off, everyone needs a Dottie in their life. If you don’t have a friend who hypes you up the way she does for Orla, you need an upgrade. Dottie is the unsung hero of this story, championing Orla through every bout of doubt and imposter syndrome. Orla isn’t weak; she’s just been surrounded by people determined to dim the light that Dottie fought to let shine. While I understand why Dottie had to die—serving as the necessary catalyst for Orla’s true arc—the book would have ended much sooner without her.
Secondly, we all know first boyfriends rarely live up to the memory. Orla’s experience is no exception. I knew something was off with that smug prick the moment they stepped into the secret hot tub cave. He moved on her so fast, it felt less like romance and more like he was devouring a loaf of Dottie’s bread. What could have been cute and corny flirting felt arrogant instead. Turns out my gut was right—Corban is a piece of shit, isn't he?
Admittedly, it took a few hundred pages for the hook to sink in. My initial impression of Orla mirrored how the characters in her life saw her, "boring as fuck." However, reflecting on those lower-stake chapters, I realized they were packed with Easter eggs that made the finale click. I loved the larger-than-life atmosphere and the looming presence of an antagonist we technically only meet once. I initially worried that was an oversight, but the beach scene at the end proved me wrong and it was epic.
While the second half of the book carries most of the weight, the ending makes you realize the story has only just begun. I’m genuinely excited to see where this "Orla vs. Corban" saga goes next.

I'm finding it a little difficult to a write a review for this book that doesn't have spoilers, but here goes.
The plot was excellent, I really enjoyed how the story unfolded through the trials and we got know about the characters. As for the characters, they were interesting, I would have liked to know a little more about some of them but our main character was well written and I enjoyed how she changed and grew throughout. There were clever little hints through the authors language choice about other characters (really trying to avoid spoilers here) motivations, and I think the aspect of friendship was well done here.
This was an easy to read book where the prose flowed well, at no point was I confused about who was talking or what was going on. The one thing that didn't work for me was the amount of world building at the start. There were pages of info dumps that at the time didn't mean a great deal. This would have been better for me just in smaller chunks, just as we needed, which we got on top of the info at the beginning anyway. For me the story really starts with the first trial. This book almost has Fourth Wing vibes the way the characters find each other and interact preparing for the trials.
Overall this was an enjoyable book and I look forwards to book 2.
So, I loved the book at first. It was a slow start, but I'm good with that. The world building was interesting, and I liked the main character. But after the second trial it all started to feel really repetitive and boring and I really had to force myself to keep reading, and by "reading" I mean skimming. I can skim pretty well, so I don't feel like I missed anything important - I slowed down to read more closely when something relevant to the overall plot or character development happened. But it was just very very meh through all the trials. A relatively main character died and I didn't really feel anything about that. Then later it turns out that the main love interest is actually a real jerk, and he basically gets intimate with her and then betrays her. There were signs that he was untrustworthy, and I never really liked him. But I hate this trope. So, there were some positive things about the story overall - the world was really interesting and I did continue to like the main character. But the writing was not really engaging, the repetitiveness of the trials was so hard to get through, and I ultimately didn't feel like I enjoyed reading this one. I can understand how others love it, it just wasn't for me.

Orla Blackthorn's strength, endurance, resilience, and self-growth is tested throughout the trials and life changes within this book.
With so many challenges thrown at her and her close friends, you will experience love, loyalty, grief and loss, happiness, sadness, hope and anticipation as you follow their journeys.
Kirsha Hutchcroft has done a fantastic job in creating unique, well-thought-out trials that are filled with creativity, keeps you captivated every page and grateful not to meet some of the creatures that they go up against during their journey! I know I would barely make it through the first trial!
Each trial is challenging physically, mentally and emotionally. They increase in difficulty and when you think things can't go wrong or get worse, it often does.
The thought and detail put into this storyline, characters, creatures and the trials that Orla and her friends experience, is one of a kind and definitely worth giving it a read.
Thank you Kirsha for giving me the opportunity to be an advanced reader of your story. You have done an incredible job and I love how creative each trial is.
As a reader you follow the magical adventure of “Maiden” Orla Blackthorn through her eyes. In a divine world with 7 different realms, Orla “is chosen” to enter the trails, 7 dangerous quests, each orchestrated in one of the realms, where the Gods will play their tricks on the contesters.
There is a strong world building, as a red thread through the story.
I was utterly touched by the story, in all its highs and lows.
I loved that there is a real map to help you guide through the story. This made it perfect to dive into the wonderful world with its creatures that @Kirsha Hutchcroft created.
The end of the book surprised me in a positive way.
If you love a book with a hunger games theme, in a fantasy world with all-mighty Gods, divine creatures, riddles and prophecies, then this is a must read. I definitely enjoyed it from beginning until the end and would love to read how the story continues!!!
I opened Seven Trials Of Aloria and was immediately greeted with rich and in-depth world-building with such immersive descriptions I was pulled straight into the story. It can feel a little complicated at first but once you get into the book, it flows with great plot and lots of showing, not telling. The characters in Seven Trials of Aloria feel very dimensional with an FMC that isn't an insta-perfect heroine but instead has to have serious personal growth which helps to add layers of emotional depth alongside well thought out and realistic trials. This book was a true journey with twists and turns that kept me turning the page with my heart in my throat, there's no cliff-hanger ending for something new and refreshing but Seven Trials of Aloria definitely has enough unanswered questions that I will be back to join Orla on her continuing journey in book two!
A female main character who would rather be reading and has a habit of chewing her fingernail… instantly relatable. Trained to be observant, objective and obedient main character Orla finds it difficult to find satisfaction in her current life as a Maiden and finds herself wondering if her life is set on one course. A twist of fate means she must quickly let go of her maiden persona and explore who she truly is. A timeless tale of new friendship and romance in the face of grueling hardship and cruelty ensues. Kirsha describes her world in great detail which may not appeal to all readers but allows the reader to create a vivid image of what the characters experience. An easy to read coming of age story- looking forward to reading book 2!
Disclosure: I received an advance reader copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
The Hallowed Objects Trilogy kicks off with an impressive debut that delivers rich, immersive world-building and the start of a unique, well-thought-out magic system. The story begins by establishing the vivid world of Aloria, then picks up pace with a compelling plot and a cast of layered, engaging characters. Orla’s journey of self-discovery is both powerful and heartfelt, adding emotional depth to the adventure. While it plays with familiar fantasy tropes, they’re given a fresh twist that keeps the story feeling original and exciting. The book wraps up in a satisfying way (no frustrating cliffhangers) but still leaves you eager for what’s to come. A passionate and thoughtful start to a promising series
I really loved Seven Trials of Aloria by Kirsha Hutchcroft. This was such a fun read and the world building was absolutely top tier. This world felt fully developed and easy to sink into from the very beginning.
I’m giving this a solid 4 stars only because some of the plot was a bit predictable at times, but honestly, that didn’t stop me from enjoying the story at all. The journey was still engaging, the stakes were there, and I was invested in seeing how everything played out.
Going forward, I’d love to see Orla really grow into a full-on badass in future books—I think there’s so much potential there. If you enjoy fantasy with strong world building and a story that pulls you in, this one is definitely worth the read.
Part one of a high fantasy trilogy that stands on it's own. Kirsha brings us Orla, a maiden that is chosen by the Orb of Fate to go to Trial Island. Kind of a Hunger Games vibe, but then so much more, as we find out that those that go to Trial Island don't usually return. This story is full of edge of your seat action, great characters that you quickly come to love, detailed world building, and overall, a message about friendship. For a debut novel, this is a marvelous first outing. When the ending is all tied up and no cliffhanger, it gives you a sense of peace and a yearning for the next book to see what happens next.
I quite enjoyed this book! Even though the beginning started off a little slow, once the story picked up, I was fully immersed. The plot twists kept me guessing, and the world-building was rich and immersive — I could easily picture myself right there alongside the characters.
And I have to say, the romantic scenes were so well done. The author managed to make them feel intimate and emotional without ever crossing into over-the-top territory. It was all tastefully written and added real depth to the characters’ relationships.
Overall, this book was a fantastic read, and I’m already looking forward to diving into the second book when it gets released!
The monsters and creatures from each realm and the world building for each one was amazing. It was like a movie playing in my head it was so easy to visualize.
Orla Blackthorn, a maiden of the seven, a follower of gods gets randomly Chosen and is thrown into a series of trials in order to claim powers and join the Hiarks on Trial Island.
The trials are hard, but Orla preserved everyday no matter what was thrown at her. I didn’t see that plot twist coming and I could feel Orla’s pain. The ending to the this book was such an immersive what-happens-next- experience!
This book had me in a vice from the moment I picked it up. The story was captivating and the plot was easy to follow along. My favorite part of the book was the bond of friendship that the FMC had with one of the characters. If everyone had a Dottie in their life, then the world would surely be a happier place.
The only thing I disliked about the story is that the FMC is a nail biter. I would be so into the story and then get taken out of it whenever I read that she started munching on her fingers. So fair warning, if nail biting is one of your icks, it unfortunately happens constantly throughout the book.
I really enjoyed the time the author took in her world building, it made the foundation much stronger and therefore the storyline easier to follow. I loved her main character, she really came to life early on in the book and just kept growing throughout. There were some plot twists, which were somewhat predictable. I did also love the tension building between the main character and her male counterpart. I am looking forward to the next book in the series when we find out more about the powers she possesses and what she does as an Heir.
Be ready to immerse yourself in a world rich of adventure, friendship, betrayal and strength!
The beginning of the book took a little while to get through but all the world building at the beginning helps you understand the world and Orla. The character development and growth we see within Orla is amazing - I loved reading as she developed into a strong woman and faced all the challenges that were thrown at her. I laughed, I smiled, I yelled and cried while reading this book and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Loved this book! It has lots of unexpected turns and a betrayal that goes deeper than you realize. A chapter about halfway through will really mess with some people but no worries, you'll get some closure a little later. 😉 This was a great read and hard to put down. Fortunately, it ends on a note where you don't want to throw the book due to so many unanswered questions but leaves you with enough to want to continue the adventure of the story. Definitely add to your TBR.
This book is a whole experience. There is a lot of world-building and ramp-up to keep track of. Definitely reads more like high/epic fantasy than an easy-breezy romantasy, which isn't a bad thing at all in my opinion.
Well-written, I love the characters, and there are some really great romance beats that feel real and earned.
This is a really immersive, detailed world that is easy to get lost in and a great start to the series!
Seven Trials of Aloria was a wonderful, engaging read with quests, heartwarming friendships and heartbreaks. The world is imaginative and original with many twists and turns that keeps one wholly captivated. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the next fantasy sensation. I can't wait for the second book in order to dive further into Orla's adventure.
I highly recommend Seven Trials of Aloria to anyone who is a fan of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer L. Armentrout and Lexi Ryan.
