Such a good read this one, there’s a great balance of relationship development, movement within the plot, and the spice 😆
Ahh this has some of the best grovelling scenes in it - I want a Bram seeking redemption! I love the way Maeve reacts at first and then the swoon 🥰 there’s also some really sweet scenes with both Poe and Remy as they were already a few steps ahead but on this one you see them begin to realise the depth of their feelings 😍 there’s some really spicy group scenes dotted frequently throughout this one too 🌶️🔥
This second book is slightly darker in what happens to our FMC and the continuing theme that’s being hinted at in the background 😳 it’s clear to us what our villain is doing and only just hinted at what this means for Maeve making it an interesting plot - found it really good having the villain PoV! Cannot wait for the last book, especially after that cliffhanger 🥺

I love how Sadie integrates past book series characters into her current books. I may have smiled quite a bit with that. The tension was high going into this book, and you could still feel it from the first chapter. I wasn't sure where this book was going to start off from, knowing where the first book ended. But I'm glad to see that my anxiety level has not gone down LOL. Sadie really knows how to write a book and pull the reader in from the very beginning, that proverbial chokehold. Any anger that you may have had for a character from the previous book, that can surely be upended at any moment in the next book! This one is no exception. As always the spice was at the perfect level. At first simmering, then exploding. And because Sadie loves to edge her readers, this one ended on an amazing cliffhanger as always. I have faith she'll bring everything together in the third book like only Sadie can, but until December I'll be biting my nails, wondering how everything will go down, and how many casualties there will be. I need to go take a Valium now. My heart needs to recover from the cacophony of feelings and emotions!

What?!? Okay....so food...who needs it? Sleep....what's that?! I could not stop reading this book! We return to the Hunt after the events at the end of book 1, and oh the shenanigans in the tunnels this time will leave you screaming. .not in a good way. Maeve ends up back where she belongs with the guys, and the way things go with Bram could not have been better written. I feel like unlike in so many books, where the FMC barely gets a good grovel before moving on, Bram really did make a real effort. I loved every bit of Bram's journey throughout this book. Poe and Remy are just as sweet and spicy, and I can't wait to see how their relationship continues to grow in the final book. Ethan is much more present at this point, and I am beyond ready to see him meet a very violent end. Ms Sadie has of course left me with so many questions and unstable emotions with that cliffhanger!!

I will preface by saying I did enjoy the book. But it didn’t engage me as much as I expected as this story continues.
My issues:
- The butchers go after the people who traded their spot with Ethan Todd but don’t persist in figuring out who it was that treated Maeve so poorly in the tunnels and tricked their way into the hunt? With the way they have said the hunt is more interesting bc it allows an opportunity to kill, and how they are feeling about Maeve, how is this not top of mind until they figure it out??
- Maeve got hit hard a few times and had a badly cut hand when Ethan and crew chained her up in the hunt. But little more is said about that - like one look at her hand, and that’s it? She went through a traumatic experience and had physical repercussions and the story didn’t seem to spend much time on that. We got a little bit of Maeve’s realization that she had been naive to sign up the first time and not think something like that could happen, but still - felt like an opportunity for her to reflect or for the guys to go really protective… instead it was like they had a chat and decided “OK we’ll go after Ethan because that’s who you joined the hunt to get revenge on”. It just felt like things weren’t connecting like they should be.
- I was happy that Bram started trying and realizing what he needed to do, but it seemed like a big change pretty quick. And after they left Maeve alone for a month? I feel like I needed more longing on their part and more appreciation for her return - it seemed too uneventful after everything that happened. And then he’s all shy about giving her the dog? In the other series, there’s always one guy that has a hard time coming to terms with emotions and that is clearly Bram here but he does a 180 more quickly than I expected!
- I also still have trouble reconciling how much focus she has put on Ethan and the blame she places on him while not fully understanding what happened with her sister. I thought we’d get a little more of the story in this book to understand how Chris had changed or what exactly happened between them. And Maeve has the group of women she has been interacting with and we get a quick synopsis of all their reasons for hating Ethan, but it just feels a bit too far-fetched. I thought the issues with him attacking her in the tunnel would be the turning point and make it all feel more valid. But then she doesn’t know it’s him and the butchers don’t figure it out, and we have a whole book that still feels too much like book one.
So I know I listed a bunch of issues but those are just the things that felt off to me. It didn’t keep me from finishing the book and at the end, I’m more excited to see how the third book unfolds. The prior series just felt a little more interesting and had continuing intrigue and mystery. This one doesn’t feel like there’s any mystery other than what the full backstory is and why Ethan gets away with his trafficking despite his public profile.

I have now read every single book Sadie Hunt has published so far and I can say with each series, it just keeps getting better! So far all have been based in Blackwell and each series after Aventine University Series, where the Kings captured my heart. There is so much plot and it seems they are all fighting the same evil in this small seemingly harmless town. Each series featured a badass FMC and three MMC’s with both possessive alpha and golden retriever personalities and of course there is that one man who just seems to be a bit more broken. Don’t worry, they all have HEA.
The latest series is Blackwell Butchers and I have been waiting on the mysteries Bram story and I have to say, I’m so NOT disappointed! The eggs that were left in previous series had me so ready for the MMC’s Bram, Poe, Remy and the badass FMC Maeve! Imagine trauma happening in your life and the person who had a hand in it is still walking a free man that is untouchable. But, you hear about an elusive hunt underground that if you win, the predators that hunted you will grant you one wish, but if you are caught, you are theirs for three months?
I love the plot and the spice. Each character is unique and their personalities standout. There is multi-pov from not only our main characters Maeve, Bram, Poe and Remy, but we also get a peek into our villains mind with pov’s from the evil villain. Which is a really nice twist. Just like the previous series, each are trilogies and the last book in this series comes out on December 30, 2025. I cannot wait!!! At least we won’t have to wait long.

Mauve and the butchers are back for another book and it’s more spicy than ever. Mauve enters the hunt again, determined to win this time but another team derails her plan. The Butchers have her back. The chemistry is off the charts and the groveling that Bram has to do in order for Mauve to forgive him is so worth it.
I highly recommend every book in Sadie’s collection. Characters show up from previous books so start with Aventine University’s Kings & Corruption

Perfect mix of plot and spice!
Sadie Hunt is doing such a great job creating characters you can relate to with an action packed plot.
Love Bram's journey in finding himself, and learning how to love.
In book one Remy is quite clumsy but not as much in book two. For awhile I started thinking there was something wrong with him. Hoping the last book gives some answers as to why so much emphasis was on it and then not say much in book 2.

Heck Yess!! This was amazing! Was so glad to be back with the butchers!! However now I am in need of more!! This was spicy and gave us more info on the plot and I was here for it all! Plus Bram need I say more.
And that cliffhanger why did Sadie have to leave us hanging like that…. I can’t wait for book 3!!

5 ✨ I’m loving this series! Honestly the plot to spice ratio is perfect. My favorite part of book 2 has been the tension and slow burn with Bram!! Omg I’m eating this up

Second verse, (almost) same as the first.
Again the plot mostly revolved around finding an killing Ethan rather than the romance of it. But Maeve no longer has to question if she is overreacting to her sister's death because it turns out Ethan isn't just a misogynistic keyboard warrior, he's a Bratva connected sex trafficker. So all good! Honestly, I would've liked it more if he were "only" the misogynist. Or not even a real one, he just plays one on the internet. I would've liked to see more of a "discussion" around Maeve's assertion that he needed to die, without the cop-out of him being a truly evil person. Have her wrestle with the idea of killing him when he's really only an insecure dick with debate skills and a platform. Where's the line? Who gets to decide who deserves to die?
The ending is cliffhangery enough to push me to finish the series, though again nothing that hasn't been done before or that I didn't see coming. We do have a whole other book to get through.
*** Mild Spoilers Ahead ***
The book starts with another Hunt, and Maeve is back. Of course the boys aren't going to let anyone else claim her, so Bram marks her. She trained for, what, 3 weeks? So somehow she thinks she's got this. But she ends up caught faster this time. I'd really like a study on just how many women win the Hunt. Because 24hrs in dark tunnels with no real hiding places doesn't seem like a winnable thing.
She goes back to living with the guys, but they (Bram) decide that they'll just kill the guy she wants - even though she lost - as an apology. And to give them time to convince her to stay for good. Even though they (Bram) vetoed the idea last book because it was a slippery slope. To killing without "rules"? Or maybe to giving the girl what she wants even though she didn't win? But also, I'm not sure I'm 100% on board with the rules of the Hunt. Seems kinda dangerous to promise to murder whomever, no questions asked, but what do I know.
And then, once again the plot focuses on Ethan. With brief pauses for sex and a date or two. And also an introduction to two other polyamorous quartets (who I'm assuming are the MCs of other series).
One thing that got me, and felt like a method to drag out the "we don't know if Ethan is here" narrative, was the Ghostface crew's death. Unbeknownst to everyone, Ethan and two others take another team's place during the Hunt, and they're there for Maeve too. They catch her, smack her around, and then run away when the Butchers show up.
When the Butchers finally hunt down the original Ghost crew, they murder them. I was thinking that was fair enough. They didn't know about the switch and it sucks that they didn't let the one guy finish his sentence stating it wasn't them. But the murder was understandable.
Then in the beginning of the very next chapter, we find out that they *did* know there was a switch, they just killed the Ghost crew on principal because they put the Hunt and the girls in danger by introducing non-vetted people.
And again, fair enough. But you'd think they'd try to find out who the three people were who actually smacked Maeve around/endangered the Hunt. It's not like they're not cool with a bit of torture. Would've found out Ethan was there sooooo much quicker.

I loved Sadie's books, but have since dropped her as an author after leaving several comments on her socials telling her about how harmful AI is.

Still looking forward to the conclusion. But this felt like filler with very little happening until the setup for the 3rd book at the very end.

This book starts off with Maeve joining the Hunt for the second time. The Butchers aren’t sure what to do, because Bram is being stubborn. They don’t want anyone else to catch her but it doesn’t feel right to ban her from the Hunt either. Unfortunately, even though they make it very clear before the Hunt even begins that the Butchers have claimed her, Ethan has secretly joined the Hunt and has no intention of heeding their warning.
Ethan and 2 of his minions hunt Maeve down in the tunnels and do end up catching her and hurting her, which is against the rules, and not just because she was claimed. Nobody will admit it, but they don’t want to be without each other. And when Maeve disappears, it’s like the light in their life is snuffed out, leaving behind the darkness that consumed their lives before they met her.
My favorite part of this book is the Cake scene between Maeve and Bram… not that I didn’t love the first scene where all of them were together, but that Scene with the cake was absolutely amazing. I also really loved watching Bram cut down a tree for Maeve and try to do everything to make her happy, even asking his sister for advice. We see different sides to these Butchers and I am excited to see how the last book goes.

YAY. This is exactly what I wanted from book two.
Bleed the Shadows took everything Rule the Night set up and actually delivered on it. The tension, the romance, the groveling… inject it directly into my veins.
Maeve returns to The Hunt, and honestly, the boys are completely flabbergasted. They cannot wrap their heads around the fact that she willingly came back—that she’s not terrified of them—and that her need to take down the man responsible for her sister’s murder outweighs every ounce of self-preservation she has. I loved that determination from her.
Of course, Bram immediately marks her so none of the other teams can claim her. Protective? Absolutely. But what no one realizes is that Nathan—the man Maeve has been hunting this entire time—is already in the tunnels, and he came looking for blood. The stakes jump almost immediately, and I flew through this book.
Once the guys get Maeve back to safety, the story shifts into something I loved even more: building their little dysfunctional family while plotting Nathan’s downfall.
The heart of this book is really Maeve rebuilding her relationships with Poe and Remy while stubbornly refusing to let Bram back into hers.
And can we please talk about Bram’s grovel?
Because this man WORKED.

The romance felt so much stronger this time around because everyone is finally starting to function as a unit instead of four people constantly pulling in opposite directions. We also get way more spice, way more sweet domestic moments, and so many scenes that made me smile watching this found family finally come together.
Just when you think they’re finally in control, the book reminds you that while they’ve been hunting…someone has been hunting them, too.
That ending has me both excited and devastated because the series is almost over. Now that all four of them are finally all in, there’s so much more to lose—and Sadie Hunt has made it very clear that no one is safe.
I cannot wait to see how this all ends.

I could not wait to read bleed the shadows after reading rule the night, and Sadie did not disappoint and brought all the drama, spice and action in part 2 of the butcher’s story! I am hooked!
This book starts where rule the night ended, with maeve returning for the new hunt. Bram is brooding from her sudden departure from the loft, and Poe and remy are desperate to get her back into the loft and their lives. Unknown maeve and the butchers, she’s in more danger in this hunt than she was before as the focus of her revenge plans, Ethan has found his way into the hunt to get to her. Will the butcher be able to get to her before Ethan and his team will or will maeve win the hunt this time and win her prize and get her avenging butchers to help her?
Sadie has knocked it out of the arena again with this instalment, I was hooked from start to finish and couldn’t put it down! We see a more vulnerable side of Bram, which I loved, in this book when he realises how much he feels for maeve and strives to redeem himself after his actions in book 1. We get cameos from characters in the other Blackwell series’s, without any spoilers for their respective books - I haven’t read the other Blackwell books and didn’t find it confusing or any spoilers from these cameos.
Again it does touch on some darker themes so check the trigger warnings if you have any, though I think these are handled well and not in any great detail in my opinion.
I would 100% recommend this book to any fans of dark romance, reverse harem, primal hunt, morally grey characters, strong fmc tropes. It cannot be read as a standalone, you have to read book 1 first! But full recommend the full series.

I said it last time and I’ll say it again…. I truly did like this book. However, there’s still some plot holes that I struggled with. I loved that it started exactly where the first book left off so you aren’t stuck in a time jump, wondering what happened and how you got there. But here’s where things get tricky…. First, the Butchers decide they’re going to go ahead and kill Ethan Todd for Maeve because, well… they care about her deeply, they want to make it up to her as an apology of sorts, and she was brave enough to go into the Hunt twice to get what she wanted. But doesn’t that go against exactly what Bram said was a “dangerous” way of thinking for them? That it went against the rules of the Hunt, and it would mean that they didn’t have standards, basically. Not exactly what he said but…. You get the gist. So the fact that all of a sudden they are going to do this for her is out of left field. I’d have liked to see her survive in the tunnels after a (month’s?) worth of preparation by studying the town’s layout and everything. Give us some of this girl’s badass characteristics in action! Idk… may just be me.
Anyways, that brings me to my second thing. This book focuses mainly on Maeve and Bram’s reconciliation. Which…. Fair. He had a lot of things to make up for from the first book. Another Hunt begins and it is no surprise that this is another fantastic story. Bleed the Shadows picks up right where Rule the Night left us. Bram, Poe and Remy are morally grey perfection, and Maeve is a fierce woman who won’t break for anyone. This book is everything a second book in a series should be and the only disappointment I have is that I have to wait until the next book to get off this cruel (in the best way) edge I was left on.
Maeve is as beautiful, fierce, and determined as ever, she has not lost sight of her goal despite leaving the Butchers. The Butchers find themselves at odds as they attempt to return to life as normal, but the absence of Maeve is something none of them seem to be able to ignore. To accomplish what she needs Maeve will return to the Hunt, this time she will be more prepared and ready to succeed, and the Butchers will come face to face with the woman they want to come back to them. The Hunt may be the same, but the Butchers are changing the rules.
The dynamic between these characters truly leaves you with no choice but to become more deeply invested in their story. The hurts of the past will require different avenues of healing for all of them. Making each of the characters and their relationships unique yet still beautifully intertwined with each other.
The book flows at the perfect pace to keep you on the edge of your seat and constantly wanting more. The plot thickens, diving into the relationship between Maeve and her men (with top notch spice), and with new developments coming into play as Maeve still searches for justice. The ending of this book… let’s just say, pouting may or may not have occurred because I am not a patient person and I need resolution immediately!

Another, riveting, mesmerizing, terrifying, seductive thrill ride. Blackwell Falls has so many dark secrets it will make your head spin. Maeve enters the hunt once again but it becomes more terrifying than the last time. It was meant to be a f*** with me if you dare to Bram but things took a dark turn when one group of hunters had dark intentions, specifically for Maeve! Bram, Remy and Poe showed up to rescue Maeve when it counted and it was the redemption that Bram needed to get in her good graces. It turns out that her nemesis Ethan has quite the sinister past and what do you know, it leads right back to where the dark secrets of Blackwell Falls underbelly all began. Aventine University! It’s so dark it will make you break out in hives. The Kings and the Bastards make an appearance because, hello! Yes, it’s very much connected to the ongoing disturbing disappearance of girls in Blackwell Falls.
Let me tell you! Sadie did not disappoint with this 2nd installment of the Butchers. Okay, I am officially invested in Blackwell Falls.
While not much time passes throughout this book, it goes into detail about what DOES happen. It really gave the story room to expand Maeve’s relationships with the Butchers and let those relationships develop instead of just rushing through everything.
And then we got chapters from the villain’s POV.
Do I hate this man?
Yes.
Do I want him to have a horrible day every day for the rest of his (hopefully short after this book) natural life?
Also yes.
Did I still enjoy getting his perspective?
Unfortunately, also yes.
Also, confession: this is the first Blackwell Falls series I've read.

Because I LOVE that the different series are interconnected and characters from the other books show up. Give me one giant universe where everyone's lives are somehow tangled together. I want cameos and crossover characters. Though it does give some spoilers to the other books but that my fault for not researching the order of the books before reading these.
The writing was great, the story kept me hooked and the steamy scenes were chef’s kiss. And that Christmas scene???

This book is well balanced with the adrenaline of the Hunt, Ethan has his own chapters so you get his Pov, it's also got the emotional parts of her and the butcher's.
I am hooked on their dynamics and the Ethan Todd aspect.
Cool thing two other groups mentioned and help them
The kings (of Aventine) the high school private academy for the kids of mafia and other rich and corrupt families. Marvel gets to meet them and their woman and baby...She gets to see a foursome in real life functioning and happy even with a baby.
They also meet the ex US navy seals and their love Lilith again a happy foursome. They help with recon.
I believe both groups are books Sadie Hunt wrote that take place in Blackwood Falls world before this book, if I'd known that I'd read those first just to feel the connection of those couples and the Aventine school seems important especially when it comes to Ethan Todd.

I believe both groups are books Sadie Hunt wrote that take place in Blackwood Falls world before this book, if I'd known that I'd read those first just to feel the connection of those couples and the Aventine school seems important especially when it comes to Ethan Todd.
Five stars love it, reading book three now :-)

Another hunt
Once again, Maeve was ready for a hunt. However, this time, she's prepared. The Butcher's are shocked to see her. She's still wearing their collar. After all the women have signed the consent forms, Bram slices his palm and marks her as theirs. None of them are aware that one of the teams have traded out for her enemy. The hunt begins.
Maeve takes off quickly, running full on. She had trained for the last three weeks. She has energy bars and electrolyte powder. She's researched the tunnel system. She's ready.
After 8 hours in the tunnels, she's caught by the enemy team. She fights, hard. They chain her up, the cut away her shirt, then ripping of her boots, jeans, and panties. She screams. She fights. She tells them the Butchers will kill them.
The Butchers hear her and take off toward her location. The enemy hears their approach and take off. The Butchers free her, as Bram gives chase after the enemy.
The bring her home and begin their 90 day stint. The morning after, they tell her they'll take out her enemy. They spend the next month preparing for it. Investigating the mark.
Meanwhile, Bram is groveling. He's also courting Maeve. He's slowly proving he is serious about her. He takes her to dinner. He cuts down a tree for Christmas and buys decorations. Groveling never looked so good.
Christmas is a huge success. Operation kill the mark takes place the next day.....

Sadie Hunt has made me a lover of the reverse harem trope. I mean seriously, Why Choose??? LOL! This book had me with my legs crossed, squirming and unable to put it down. It had me bound from page 1!!!
This is the second book in the trilogy and it picks up right where Rule the Night (Bk1) ended with our FMC, Maeve BACK IN THE HUNT!! Dang, this girl is RELENTLESS and nothing is going to keep her from getting revenge for HER sister. And I am there for her. Bram, Poe and Remy are sooo perfect and they were there for Maeve through it all, trying to protect her and help her get the justice she is sooo determined to get. I am not surprised at all that this book was HOT and steamy and I was definitely left in a state (but I’m not complaining), There is just something about the feral, morally gray way that Sadie writes her characters and I am obsessed with her!!
This book is definitely a phenomenal Dark romance, checks all my favorite boxes and the ENDING! NO F’NG WAY!! CLIFFHANGER FROM HELL!!! So I am going to throw myself back into the Blackwell and Aventine books and re-read them all while I wait for the last book to come out!! 1000% - THIS is definitely a MUST READ!

Amazing follow up to Book 1
We start right where Book 1 started, with our FMC, Maeve, entering the Hunt in the hopes of avoiding capture in order to exact her revenge on Ethan who she blames for converting her sister’s boyfriend into a sycophant killer. And just just like the first book, Maeve is marked by the Butchers. Unbeknownst to them all, an evil group has infiltrated the Hunt with the goal of destroying Maeve. And like the first book, Sadie does a fabulous job building up the suspense during the Hunt. While The Butchers end up with Maeve again, the must rescue her first, and that’s where the plot starts to really take off.
Maeve is determined to bring Ethan to justice and convinces the Butchers to help. The cat and mouse game that ensues keeps you on the edge of your seat and again I lost sleep as I kept saying just one more chapter. The way the characters interact and the way their love and trust blossomed is so organic. As they mentioned several times, they didn’t know where one of them ends and the others begin. While the plot keeps you engaged, it’s the love story that is the heart of it all. And yes, my love for Remy grew (I am solidly a Remy girl), but I did soften a bit toward Bram.
Since it is a 3 book arc, the end is a fairly big (but sort of expected) cliffhanger as our protagonist becomes more unhinged. So now I am off to read the conclusion …

Everything about this book is MESMERIZING!!
When I say Bleed the Shadows is jaw-dropping entertainment at its finest…I mean it!! It’s UTTERLY UNPUTDOWNABLE.
Maeve, Remy, Bram and Poe story just gets better and more interesting with every book.
There are so many incredibly raw and gripping moments that draw you in and keep you completely immersed and captivated with the strong relationships developing and the deeper intimate connection between all these characters.
BTW: I will never be able to eat Black Forest cake without that scene replaying in my head😉
We are getting to see a more sensitive side of Bram and it’s so endearing.
Adding Ray was simply beautiful!
I was so impressed with all the cameos of the characters from the Kings and Bastards series and how they were weaved through this story.
The second book in the Blackwell Butchers series was EXCEPTIONALLY written to consume you from beginning to end with all the steamy naughty page burning moments, emotional heart-gripping conversations and the imminent danger on the horizon.
A highly ENGROSSING dark Why Choose romance with a thrilling and pulse-pounding cliffhanger!
