For lovers of classic epic fantasy with powerful world-building and slow burn romance. Full story spans three books.

Epic Quest; Tragic Backstory; Slow Burn; Forced Proximity; The Waiting Evil; Hidden Antagonist; Swords and Sorcery; Dark Twists.

“May Destiny protect us from Darkness within this world and from that which hides within ourselves. ”

Destiny had made a mistake. The four realms of Asteria have been plunged into decades of drought, its people are desperate and scattered. War is imminent after a thousand years of peace, and the renowned Seers of the Isle of Sea and Sky are heralding “The Coming”. The legendary Shadow Master, infused with the power of Chaos, is rumoured to walk the land once again.

To protect the future, Destiny must send his two Guardians of Light to the Mortal Realm with almost impossible quests. Dorien must find a woman with no face or name, who disappeared over a millennium ago. Only she can unlock the power of the Stone of Souls and bring back the rains. Alora’s task is to find the Stone, but first she needs to convince the mysterious and elusive Hunter to guide her, and she is not even sure he is mortal..
.
With limited access to their powers, the Guardians find themselves increasingly drawn into a world of desire, darkness, and deception. Memories of their previous lives surface, revealing haunting truths that bind through the Ages: love, loyalty, betrayal, and revenge. As they journey through the four lands, they begin to question the identity of those who surround them, and their strange, emerging connection with the past.

4.5 stars rounded up

This was the perfect mix of epic fantasy with a dash of romance. I'm an absolute SUCKER for a forgotten memory type of story and as the guardians slowly gained their mortal memories back I became more and more invested.

the world building?? the yearning?? the way the characters became interconnected??? just absolutely sensational and I need the next book rn

the only reason it's not a 5 star is purely vibes 😂 it just didn't give me that 5 star feeling but I think that could be down to the narrator? I will however be immediately purchasing this book and will happily reread it again at some point

It’s been a long whilst since I really enjoyed fantasy, and thankfully the last month I’ve been given the chance to read a couple of fantastic fantasy’s via Love Book Tours!

Guardians of Destiny is so thoroughly detailed and loaded with plot. There wasn’t a page I wasn’t bored with from the start, each moment on both of Alora and Dorien’s journeys was exciting, tense, magical and epic!
When you are excited to open a book and carry on a story, that is when you know you’ve got a winner in your hands!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will absolutely recommend it to others!
Looking forward to the next in the trilogy!

I really enjoyed the playlist that was connected to this. Im not a playlist to book kinda gal but it really put me in the story! Thank you for such a magical time reading Guardians of Destiny!

Thank you to the author & LBT for allowing me to read Guardians of Destiny.

This is pure epic fantasy, rich world-building, layered histories, complex realms, and a magic system that feels truly original. The beginning is a bit slow because there’s a lot of foundational setup, but it absolutely pays off once the plot kicks into gear. Stick with it. It’s worth it.

The narration by Gill Mills is phenomenal. She brings emotion, depth, and nuance to every character. You can hear the fear, grief, longing, and courage in her delivery. It elevates the entire story.

The world-building is dense, but thankfully it doesn’t consume the whole book. Once the groundwork settles, the plot picks up quickly, action, danger, prophecy, political tension, and sweeping fantasy landscapes. The magic system is especially compelling; it feels unique rather than recycled from other high-fantasy worlds.

This story follows two Guardians: Alora, tasked with finding the Stone of Soul & Dorian, tasked with finding a nameless woman who can unlock it. They have separated journeys, with intersecting paths. Both missions feel high stakes and emotionally charged.

Their journeys include: encounters with mortals who may be more than they seem, unexpected love after thousands of years of immortality, memories from old lives resurfacing with new meaning, and danger from every angle as Chaos creeps into the mortal realm

It’s a slow burn romantically and a fast burn emotionally. The forced-proximity moments hit just right, and the prophecy elements give everything weight.

I enjoyed this story and can’t wait to follow these two Guardians into whatever trouble comes next.

⚠️ Note: If you’re doing the audiobook, check trigger warnings beforehand. They didn’t bother me, but some listeners may want the heads-up.

Guardians of Destiny is an epic fantasy following, as the name suggests, two Guardians – Alora and Dorien. Powerful immortal beings who have been given mortal form to travel the world on a quest to save it from the forces of Chaos.

In this story, Destiny is an actual person/entity, rather than an abstract concept, which is a nice touch, and to begin with, the two Guardians have no memory of their former mortal lives, centuries ago, but certain events on their journey begin to trigger those memories.

Structurally, I thought this book was spot on. Introducing us to the 2 Guardians and Destiny in their realm of Light gave the opening an epic feel, which I always look for in fantasy. Then seeing the pair work together for a while before splitting them off to pursue their own quests and limiting their interaction for most of the rest of the book, gave us a chance to get to know them properly.

The book is packed with detail and fascinating worldbuilding, as well as heartfelt characterisation through the hints of romance that begin to grow for each of them, however reluctantly, as they try to balance the responsibility of their vital mission with mortal desires.

Another interesting detail is the way they retain limited access to their immortal powers and there is a cost to using them. Events may threaten their lives as well as the lives of those they must protect, as well as endangering the mission itself, and this may force them to kill in defence of those things. But kill the wrong mortal and all is lost. This helps raise the stakes for these powerful characters.

The ending was a slightly odd choice. Not a cliffhanger as such, but I guess it’s setting up the sequel.

Otherwise, I have nothing but praise for this stunning debut and I’ll definitely looking out for Book 2.

What an incredible first book to kick off the Stone of Souls Trilogy! I was hooked from the first few chapters.

Firstly, the world building is amazing! It was so in depth, but also easy enough to follow. The story follows guardians Alora and Dorien on their separate journeys which involves much prophecy, fate and love. Double the journey = double the adventure..

The world of Asteria has such an epic fantasy feel with magic and legends. The light vs Chaos tension can be felt!

Book 2 is already a highly anticipated release for me, I can’t wait to see where the story takes me. Hopefully I won’t have to wait too long for it!

‘Guardians of Destiny’ is the first book in a new epic fantasy series. It’s a high fantasy story that follows two guardians on their separate paths and quests. It’s a little slow in the beginning as is often the case with real epic fantasy novels as there is a lot of world building but the slow burn story pays off as I found both Alora and Dorien’s journeys to be interesting and immersive. I especially liked how they had to adapt to finding themselves back in mortal bodies and the challenges they faced. I am looking forward to seeing where this story goes next.

I will say Guardians of Destiny is a very interesting fantasy novel that has the potential to be a very good series. I will admit that this book had me hooked the moment I started reading and that it always a very good sign that the book ia going to be good. Dorien and Alora really had a lot on their plate what with them being chosen Guardians and having to travel together to find the third Guardian. I will say that anyone who enjoys reading about these kind of adventures will surely enjoy this book.

May Destiny protect us from Darkness within this world and from that which hides within ourselves.”

What a great story loved the detailed world building and the dual pov with the two different journeys made for an exciting read. Both characters were well developed and interesting in their own right and I was excited to find out where their journeys took them next.

I loved that there was a matching playlist as well such a nice touch. Can’t wait for book 2 and the journey to continue.

Guardians of Destiny swept me into a world of ancient power, hidden prophecies, and characters who feel instantly alive. Hallam delivers a story rich with magic and tension, where every choice shapes the fate of entire realms.

The plot is fast-paced with just the right blend of action, mystery, and heart. I loved watching the characters grow into their roles as protectors, each carrying secrets and burdens that make their journey feel genuinely high-stakes.

I also listened to parts of the audiobook, and the narration only deepened the experience — bringing the emotion, atmosphere, and character voices to life beautifully.

A gripping, imaginative fantasy that keeps you invested from the first page to the last.

This is more like a 4.5 star book - it was really long - so couldn't give it the full 5 star review.

Thank you to the author and to Love Book Tours for the gifted physical copy of this book.

This is the first book in a new fantasy series and it was really good! There is a ton of world building - which made the book long, but it was constantly enjoyable. It follows the 2 Guardians, Alora and Dorian, as they make their way in the mortal realm to find the 3rd Guardian. The drama started from the beginning - are they going to make it to the mortal realm at all? Each character has their own quest (who doesn't like a quest!?) and although they can contact each other, they are pretty much on their own. They both need to ask for help, which doesn't come naturally to them. It's all in an attempt to stave off the darkness and save the world.

This is my first time reading this author but it will not be the last! Looking forward to book 2 and seeing what happens next.

I loved the world, the quest, and the characters--especially Dorien!

The story follows two immortals as they take on human form and navigate the trials and weaknesses of mortality, all while grappling with blossoming romance and surprising memories of their once-mortal lives.

Captivating and delightfully mythic, Guardians of Destiny is a sweeping first installment of what promises to be a breathtaking series.

This is book one in the stone of souls trilogy and my goodness what an opening book. This book creates a rich and vividly detailed world that I was super excited to delve in to, I am a sucker for a fantasy book with quests, sword fighting and a delicious slow burn that had me turning page after page without realising how much time had passed. I adored the way the characters revealed themselves and their back storied in a natural feeling way rather than forced upon you. I am super excited to read book two

Guardians of Destiny by Louise Briony Hallam.
Stone of Souls trilogy. Book 1.
This was a good read. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. The cover is why I signed up for this tour. It's gorgeous and so different. I can't believe this is a debut. It took me a while to get into it. I read this in a few days. I got into this book after they got to the mortal realm. I loved the world-building and Alora and Dorien. Even Destiny. I liked the high priestess. Wow. I really am looking forward to the next book. I do recommend this book.

Destiny sends Dorian and Alora, both powerful Guardians, on a quest to find the third guardian. Dorian and Alora end up separating, learning to rely on others while stuck in their weaker human forms. Dorian can shift a mountain bear and Alora can shift into a bird.

I loved seeing how they can communicate through their minds, even when they were apart. Dorian’s journey with Ma-Therese to the Isle of Sea and Sky was full of adventure. Alora’s path has her meeting Karalene and Hunter, which adds so much heart and mystery. Hunter especially stood out because there’s something magical and different about him.

The world-building was rich! It covers the realms, seers, and a dark forces. The dark force known as the Sovereign’s Eye threatens to cut off communication with the Guardian realm by capturing all the seers. Two of the realms plan to take over the Greenwood realm for their resources. This is a high fantasy and it is filled with magic and quests. The playlist, glossary, and map are included in the book!!

☀️⛰️Update: I just finished listening to the audiobook. Gill Mills did a wonderful job with the narration. She brought each character to life. She was clear with distinct voices and great inflection. Her pacing made the world feel even richer. I feel like she made the story more immersive. It was one of those audiobooks that you really enjoy listening too.

Guardians of Destiny is an immersive tale filled with Guardians, shifters, seers, and a world steeped in magic and mystery.

This high fantasy story follows Destiny’s attempt to restore balance to the realms by sending two Guardians of Light into the mortal realm. Dorien searches for a mysterious woman tied to the Stone of Souls, while Alora sets out to find the Stone. At the same time, the Shadow Master, infused with Chaos, once again walks the land.

As the Guardians travel on their separate quests, they encounter allies and adversaries, while their time in mortal form awakens memories of past lives. These glimpses of history reveal threads of love, loss, and purpose, deepening the connection to their present journey. Along the way, they also wrestle with the emotions and relationships that come with being bound to the mortal realm.

I was captivated by the vivid world-building and the author’s ability to balance action, emotion, and description. Both Dorien and Alora’s stories had equal weight, and each quest brought me deeper into the world. The combination of magic, mystery, and emerging bonds kept me turning the pages, and I’m already eager for the continuation in the next book.

I received this book as an ARC, and this review reflects my genuine thoughts and feelings, shared voluntarily.

A truly impressive debut—rich, immersive, and brimming with imagination. This is a story full of heart, humour, and emotional depth. The worldbuilding is vivid and beautifully realised, and the attention to detail is remarkable. With a complex plot told through multiple points of view, everything fits together seamlessly.

One of the real strengths of this book is the cast of diverse, well-developed characters. Each voice feels distinct and authentic, making it easy to connect with them on a personal level. The balance of fantasy and romance is handled with care, making the story accessible to a wide range of readers—including those new to the genre or simply looking for a more approachable, character-driven read.

An excellent beginning to what promises to be a compelling and expansive series.

This epic story had me hooked from the start. I was instantly drawn into the world of the guardians sent to the mortal realm to save Asteria.
I don’t often read fantasy novels but I was so impressed by the way I could fall into this whole other world spanning the ages of time so effortlessly. The book is so descriptive and the characters brought to life beautifully. Great writing that had me wanting to read on at every twist and turn.
Looking forward to the next book in the trilogy to see where it goes next!!

Fantasy like it used to be.

If you love old school fantasy and characters with depth then give this book a shot. The world building is a real strength in this story.
There is some romance and a little spice but on balance it feels more like an epic fantasy.
I’m looking forward to the next book. Great debut.

“Guardians of Destiny” is the debut first instalment of a trilogy fantasy series by an emerging author Louise Briony Hallam. It invites readers into a richly imagined world where two guardians are sent to find a third and together protect the fictional planet of Asteria, from encroaching darkness. The author’s descriptive prowess sets the scenes. The first chapter leans into overly elaborate descriptions, at times slowing momentum and this might test the patience of readers preferring a brisker narrative flow.

The novel avoids predictable tropes by introducing unexpected twists and moral dilemmas, challenging both the characters and readers to rethink what it means to protect something greater than oneself and face the darkness which exists within us.

The guardians and main characters are not archetypal heroes; instead, they are layered characters wrestling with internal conflicts as much as external threats. This nuanced characterization elevates the narrative beyond a standard good versus evil tale. One of the most compelling elements is the novel’s exploration of the guardians’ interconnected relationships, which are portrayed with emotional depth and sincerity. These bonds are the emotional core of the story, grounding the more fantastical elements in relatable human experience. The dialogue feels authentic, and the conflicts, both interpersonal and cosmic, resonate with weight and consequence.

In conclusion, “Guardians of Destiny” is a thoughtful addition to the fantasy genre and will appeal to readers who appreciate richly developed characters and a world where the stakes are as much about internal struggle as external battle. While it may benefit from occasional tightening in prose, its imaginative scope and emotional resonance make it a rewarding read and I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Review of Guardians of Destiny
Thank you to #NetGalley and #VictoryEditing for providing me the ARC to #GuardiansofDestiny.
The book started off slowly for me, but I think only because it took me some time to get used to the prose. The writing style of the book is descriptive and initially read like a D&D game. I grew to enjoy the characters, their banter and their arcs. The relationships drew me in and I began caring for the directions that they were taking. That being said, the paths laid out for theses characters, although predictable, was enjoyable and I kept wanting to read to be sure I was on the same path they were.

I really enjoyed the world-build (again, descriptive and imaginative) and the magic system created gave the characters shape-shifting abilities and light wielding and I found that likable as well. The focus of mortality, and past decisions and second chances played a major role in the foundation of the book, intrigued me and kept me interested, with underlying themes of Destiny, Chaos, and Dark and Light (concepts that are portrayed as actual beings) playing important roles as well.

Even though the first 25% of the book took me a moment to get through, the pace of the book picked up for me, and at 75%, I could not put it down. Reading until midnight and finding every opportunity to find the time to see what is going to happen next. Determined to see how this book ended and where these characters end up.

The ending through me for a loop. I was not expecting it, but it came out of nowhere for me. But even though I wasn’t expecting it, it seems to lead into a continuation of the story line for a second book. Needless to say, I enjoyed this story enough that I would be interested in seeing where it goes if and when there is a Book 2.

ALC/ARC REVIEW This story surprised me in so many ways. While it carries familiar tropes of epic quests and slow-burn romance, I was surprised by the expansive feel of the landscape, the importance of the quests and the descriptive grandeur of the surroundings.

Two Guardians of Light—Dorien and Alora—are sent to the Mortal Realm to recover the Stone of Souls. Stripped of their powers, they face perilous quests, resurfacing forgotten memories and haunting ties of love. The prologue sets the tone with a slow, immersive build, so readers who enjoy deliberate world building, unique magic systems, forced proximity, and subtle romance will find much to love here.

Hallam manages to create such a vast realm, where the descriptions of the landscape, surroundings and the quests create an otherworldly, ethereal resonance. It’s more than just fantasy—it feels transcendent, epic, and expansive.

“May Destiny protect us from Darkness within this world and from that which hides within ourselves.” Destiny is an actual being, commanding his Guardians to complete their quest to help Asteria from years of war, drought and desperation – it’s epic, vast and expansive. I really liked that ‘Destiny’ was a being, as well as the driving force of the story, it feels as though every meaning is deep and layered.

Although the novel ends quite abruptly and, for me, the pacing felt slow at times, both are clearly setting the stage for book I’m really excited for! Elora’s past manifests itself in memories, revealing her involvement with the beginnings of the war. Alongside the slow-burn romance, magic reveals and forced proximity, I feel like the world is only going to get more vast and exciting!

This is book one in the Stone of souls trilogy, and is an epic fantasy with a nice sprinkling of romance along the way. In order to save the world two guardians are sent to the mortal realm with missions to complete before it is too late. We have a prophecy, an epic quest, forced proximity, slow burn romance, magic, seers, a looming war, Destiny versus Chaos, good versus evil.

Our guardian, Dorian and Alora, are given separate missions to complete and split up quite early on in the story. I really enjoyed their separate quests and the difficulties they each face along the way. I love how different the guardians are and how their guides compliment and challenge them every step of the way. The world building was great and I thought the machinations of destiny and chaos behind the scenes was a nice touch.

I really enjoyed Louise’s writing style, and can I just take a minute to say that I was surprised to learn that this is a debut novel, it feels much more like a seasoned author.

This was a great rollercoaster ride for our guardians and what an ending! I can’t wait for the next instalment of this series. This was a strong. Read for me and I would definitely recommend.

Epic fantasy lovers, this one’s for you.

Guardians of Destiny by Louise Briony Hallam swept me straight into the world of Asteria. A realm on the edge of ruin, where gods meddle, prophecies whisper, and destiny itself might have made a very big mistake.

This book has everything I crave in classic fantasy: sprawling world building, tragic heroes, hidden magic, dark secrets, and a slow burn romance that had me yelling “JUST KISS ALREADY” at the page.

Dorien and Alora’s quests are filled with tension, ancient mystery, and that delicious sense that something much bigger is moving beneath it all.

The writing and story are cinematic, the lore deep and intricate, and the tone? Pure high fantasy nostalgia but with emotional depth and romantic angst that feel wonderfully modern.

By the end, I was fully invested!

It’s dark, sweeping, and beautifully written. A perfect start to what promises to be an unforgettable trilogy.

Destiny had made a mistake... well, when this happens, you know you're in for a wild ride!!

I loved Guardians of Destiny, this world was so unique and the world Louise had imagined really came to life through rich world building.
This story follows Alora and Dorian, 2 Guardians as they journey to find the third Guardian in the mortal Realm. Both go their separate ways and the book flits between them throughout, every chapter left me wanting to know what happens and was Deliciously executed!
Both the FMC, Alora and the MMC, Dorian were extremely likeable and I loved seeing their relationships develop with both Hunter and Faun.
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, as it was my first ever Audiobook, it took a couple chapters to get into but I listened every opportunity I got!

Very much looking forward to seeing what happens in book 2, definitely one to add to the tbr

3.5 stars - An immersive read with strong atmosphere and thoughtful world-building that made it easy to sink into the story. The characters and overarching plot kept me engaged, and there’s a clear sense of care put into the universe the author has created.

However, the pacing occasionally felt slow, with some sections lingering longer than necessary. While these moments didn’t diminish my overall enjoyment, they did interrupt the flow and made the story feel like it dragged at times, which is why I ultimately deducted half a star.

Overall, it’s a solid and engaging read, especially for readers who enjoy richly developed settings and don’t mind a more measured pace.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy.

This is not my usual genre, being more an occasional reader of fantasies, but I picked this up recently for a summer read. It took me a bit to get into it as the world was built and I got used to the style, but once the introductions and explanations were made and the story started properly, I found myself quite engrossed. It is well written, and I particularly enjoyed some of the descriptions. I note the authors background as a scientist, and this is quite evident in places as the descriptions of the geography and landscape have an authenticity that is rare in most books, let alone fantasy novels. I'm keen for the next one in the series.
