The Book of Kings

Rate this book
Lockland James is your typical bad boy—tattooed, mysterious, and dangerous—only to the town of Shelby, he's so much more. As president of The Blood Kings MC, his job is to protect his people. With his club behind him, Lock handles business, settles debts, and dishes out punishments, keeping Shelby safe from everyone but himself—and his secret.

Nina Scott is ready to start a new chapter. After the death of her father, she finally feels capable of living life for herself—free of her dad's care and police officer mentality—and what better place to do that than the setting of his favorite stories? This sassy bartender has no friends, no family, and no job in Shelby, but she just may find all that and more.

When the town enforcer sees the new girl living in the slums of Shelby, he makes it his personal goal to teach her a lesson about safety and risk. Turns out however, that Nina isn't all that worried about danger. In fact, diving into The Blood King's unconventional world of sin sounds like just the adventure she was looking for.

When these two worlds collide, will sparks fly? Or will they crash and burn leaving nothing behind but pain, regret, and a book full of secrets?

What a story🙌🏼 Nina and Lock completely stole my heart—their chemistry is magnetic, but it’s the way they learn to love through their circumstances that truly stayed with me. Both of them are navigating challenges that could have hardened them, but instead, their connection becomes this slow, tender unfolding. It’s not just romance—it’s healing, growth, and learning what it means to be fully seen by another person.
😮‍💨

I also need to take a moment to celebrate Cassandra and Kelli. These two are not only talented authors but also incredible friends, and I couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve created together. Their collaboration shines in every line—the heart, the depth, the raw emotion.

The Book of Kings is a story of resilience and love that lingers long after you close the book. Highly recommend if you love romances where the journey feels as important as the destination.

Two of my favorite romance authors together for a dark romance that tugs at your heartstrings and has you wanting to find yourself a bike club boyfriend!

This book was better than I could have wished for and had me remembering how much i loved Sons of Anarchy and Jax…ahhhh!

I really hope there is more to come and that this becomes a series. All I can say is READ IT!

✨ What. A. Story. ✨

Nina and Lock completely stole my heart. Their chemistry is magnetic—undeniable in that way where every look, every touch, every unspoken word just crackles. But what truly stayed with me wasn’t just the heat—it was the heart. The way they learn to love through their circumstances, even when life has given them every reason not to, felt so honest and human.

Both of them are navigating challenges that could’ve hardened them, but instead, their connection becomes this slow, tender unfolding. The kind of love that feels like exhale after holding your breath for too long. It’s not just about falling for someone—it’s about healing alongside them, learning that you can be both scarred and soft, strong and still searching.

And I have to take a moment to celebrate Cassandra and Kelli because… wow. What they’ve created together is pure magic. You can feel the love and trust in their partnership on every page. Their collaboration shines through—the emotional depth, the vulnerability, the quiet power behind every line. The Book of Kings is the kind of story that reminds you why you fell in love with romance in the first place.

It’s a story of resilience and rediscovery, of finding light in the dark and connection in the chaos. The writing is top-notch—lush, immersive, and full of emotion that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. The side characters bring humor and warmth, the spice sizzles without overpowering the tenderness, and the pacing keeps you pulled into their world until you realize you’ve devoured the whole thing in one sitting.

It’s the kind of book that lingers—quietly, beautifully—and leaves you thinking about what it really means to be seen, loved, and chosen.

Highly, highly recommend if you love stories where the journey is just as breathtaking as the destination. 💖

✨ ARC Review - The Book of Kings by Cassandra Kelli ✨

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5/5)
🌶️🌶️🌶️ (3/5)

Many thanks to the authors for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

Wow, what a wild ride. And not just because it's a book that dives into the world of bikers. The Book of Kings had me hooked and I actually had to force myself to put it down because I didn't want it to end.

After Nina Scott's father passes away, she makes a bold decision: leave the life she knows behind and start over in Shelby - the place where her father grew up and spoke of so fondly. Without him, she feels lost and is looking for a new place to call home, somewhere she can still feel close to him.

What she doesn't expect is how different the reality is. The apartments look nothing like the pictures, there's litter and needles everywhere, and the landlord seems sketchy. With a few months already paid in advance, Nina stays. This choice leads her into a collision course with Lock, the dangerous president of The Blood Kings MC.

What I Loved:
- Nina and Key's fast friendship and banter.
- Lock is fiercely protective of his sister.
- Nina's ability to hold her own.
- The found-family bond of the brothers - they always had each other's backs.

My favorite part is that The Book of Kings was a collaboration between two contemporary romance authors (Kelli Cooke and Cassandra Moll) who stepped out of their comfort zones to write this story. They definitely succeeded and I'm hoping that they continue writing more books together.

☠️Arc Review☠️
The Book of Skulls by Cassandra Kelli

Nina is the new girl in town. She moves to Shelby after growing up hearing about it from her dad and she wants a fresh start after his death. She is fearless and talks back. She sees Lock on her first day in town and she is intrigued by him and not afraid of of the dangerous bad boy who tries to scare her off.

Lock is the tattooed, motorcycle riding, bad boy and president of the Blood Kings MC.

I just loved these two together. Their chemistry is magnetic and their relationship develops quickly and easily. The spice was just sizzling. The side characters were just so good and just added enough humor to lighten up the darkness of this book. I couldn’t put this book down! It just kept me drawn into their world and the writing was top notch!

Casandra Moll and Kelli Cooke are two of my new favorite authors separately and have done an amazing job coming together writing this story!

This is a dark MC romance please check trigger warnings.

Thanks to Casandra Kelli for an e-Arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

OMG I just love Lock and Nina!!!
Dark morally grey men are my thing...oh AND a motorcycle club....🔥 So Lockland (Lock) is my kinda man! I love that he protects his small town and in turn once Nina moved to town that meant her as well. Nina was exactly what Lock needed in his life. Her sassy sunshine self helped Lock with what he was holding onto from the past, and Lock helped Nina find what she was looking for...
This is a must read! The side characters are amazing too! Cassandra Moll and Kelli Cooke nocked this out of the park!

I received an advance review copy for free and this is my honest review

So Good!

Nina, has no family left and has moved to start over somewhere her father loved. Lock aka Lockland is the President of Blood Kings MC. He protects the hometown where he grew up and carries his parents' legacy of the MC. He is the typical gorgeous bad boy with past demons that haunt him. They share the fact that they no longer have a blood family left on earth and their passion for each other is evident from their first encounter with each other. When secrets get spilled and their relationship is questioned things take a turn for the worse. No fail he rescues her and the MC family is there to show up when needed. The MC is the family they both needed.

I beta read this book and want to say it was so good.

Nina is the sunshine that Loch needed, her coming into his life unexpectedly and changing his view on things was perfect. Neither of the main characters were perfect, they both had stuff they were dealing with but they brought out the better in each other.

The spice was perfect, the relationship they built was perfect, the side characters were perfect - Pockets can come on trips with me and my toddler anytime 😂

I can't wait to see if and when Cassandra Kelli creates more magic ✨✨

The Book of Kings by Cassandra Kelli

5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Quote: “Love is messy, Nee but it always finds a way in the end.”

People ask me - Are you a Dark Romance girl and I say no emphatically - Reads this book - Falls in love - Gains a new Book Boyfriend

Lockland and Nina - characters written perfectly imperfect.

Cassandra Moll and Kelli Cooke are amazing writers solo but put these two together and the story unfolds perfectly.

I hope there is more books to come because I want to follow Lockland and Nina around forever.

just WOW! COULDNT PUT IT DOWN

This story was something different for me. I loved it! It had me sucked in from the very start and I was in a reading slump before starting. I fell in love with the characters and want more from Lock and Nina! The dynamic, banter, love, push and pull is everything!
I truly recommend this book! Smutty, sexy, filled with tension, and yet all the things you want to leave you happy and excited, and wanting / craving more!

such a good story!!

I came across this book looking around on kindle and I’m glad I did! I finished it in a day! The funny parts were funny and the tragic parts were tragic. I loved the characters and I also loved that they didn’t really have girl drama in the book. It’s a insta love, possessive mmc, grumpy sunshine. The only downside is that the author only has 1 book so I can’t binge. I also would like to get his sister story she seemed fun.

This wasn’t my usual type of read, but when two of my fave authors come together to write it?! I’m there in a heartbeat!
I immediately fell in love with Nina and Lockland, but let’s not forget about the supporting characters who were just as strong. The writing, seamless. The story, captivating. I didn’t want this one to end!

This book was a perfect fit for my taste, delivering both a morally gray hero and a wonderfully sassy heroine.
While the main male character's insecurities were frustrating at times, I appreciated watching his character development unfold over the course of the story.

Dark, spicy, sexy and mysterious. Nina is new in town and isn't quite sure where she fits in. Lock is the King, and when the two meet, there is tension and fire in the best ways. I loved this book and it will be in my rotation for years to come.

FMC Nina is looking for that elusive “something” and after her father’s death moves to Shelby, a town her dad remembered fondly and spoke of often. Nina is full of attitude and very self-confident. She’s not afraid to stand up for herself and speak her mind. Her first day in town she sees bad boy biker, MMC Lock, and is intrigued by him. His attempts to scare her off don’t work and soon Nina has talked her way into a job at Lock’s bar (and his MC’s hangout/clubhouse), a friendship with his sister, and a new, less shady apartment above the bar (so Lock can keep an eye on her of course). Lock is relationship adverse, but something about the way Nina isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with him and gives zero F’s about his MC, the fact that he is president of the MC, and is a tad outlaw/morally gray, intrigues him and he just can’t stay away. I ate this book up, just like I ate up every episode of Sons of Anarchy. There are enough side characters and antics and exploits involved with the MC guys (and Lock’s sister) that I hope we get more books in this universe.
