The MMR vaccine I had to take for graduate school left me with many autoimmune issues, including hypothyroid. Finding this book was serendipitous for me. For the last five years, I have been predominantly carnivorous, with only spices as the exception. With all the benefits I have experienced from that, I certainly didn't need coaxing to continue. I have also been supplementing with iodine for the last five years since I read the very good book about iodine written by David Brownstein. What I didn't realize was the importance of fat. Personally, I predominantly eat grass-fed beef, and often eat fatty meats such as short ribs because I prefer them. This book was full of information that I needed to make better decisions for managing my hypothyroid condition and overall health. The author broke down and explained the bodily processes very clearly, which I appreciate. Her deep understanding of the mechanisms surrounding the thyroid and adrenals was very good reading. I learned so much! Since my hypothyroid diagnosis, I have supplemented with NDT with success. After reading this book, it seems obvious to me that I haven't been taking enough. All the symptoms I have were caused by low thyroid. I will be using my temperature to guide further supplementation.
I didn't give it five stars because I believe she ignored the real reason for ADHD, autism, and many autoimmune conditions. The only valid reason for the unprecedented rise in autism is exposure to toxicants, mainly vaccines. When 88% of autism cases start with a "well-baby” visit to the pediatrician and a bunch of vaccines, it is clear what is causing autism. It is the only thing that explains the 32,158% increase since 1970. Any studies claiming vaccines don’t cause autism are invalid since they did not contain a control group. Genetic research on autism has turned up nothing because genetics is not the cause. The author's claim that autism and ADHD have a genetic component is patently false. I was surprised, given her intelligence, that she seemed blind to the profound damage that vaccines have done to generations of children. The rise in autoimmune conditions tracks with the obscene rise in the number of vaccines given to babies and children.
Also, she disparages milk as a food, but she doesn't differentiate between raw and processed milk. Processed milk is barely a food as it is deficient in nutrition, enzymes, and beneficial bacteria. Raw milk, on the other hand, is a superfood, and people who have difficulty digesting processed milk have no trouble with raw milk. Raw milk has been consumed for centuries, providing a valuable source of nutrition.
All-in-all, this is a ground-breaking book that so completely covers thyroid and adrenal issues that it should be required reading for all humans who want to optimize their health.
