When Faith Falls Apart, Maybe It Was Never Properly Planted
You believe in God, but church left you disappointed. You've heard about Jesus, but the Christianity you experienced felt shallow, hypocritical, or legalistic. You're not alone—and your questions are valid. What if the problem wasn't with the gospel itself, but with how it was first presented to you?
In Good Ground, Jennifer Hayes Yates uses Jesus' Parable of the Sower to reveal why so many people walk away from faith: The seed of God's Word was scattered on unprepared soil. Some hearts were hardened by religious hypocrisy. Others received the message with joy but had no deep roots to sustain them through trials. Still others were choked out by worldly pressures and cultural compromise. But the good news is that the Farmer is still sowing.
This isn't another book about fixing your faith or trying harder. It's an invitation to start fresh—to let God prepare your heart as good soil where His truth can take deep root and produce lasting fruit. Through personal stories, practical guidance, and solid biblical teaching, you'll
Why shallow Christianity fails when life gets hardHow to distinguish biblical truth from cultural ChristianityThe essential spiritual disciplines that ground lasting faithHow to read and understand the Bible and its theologyWhat authentic Christian community actually looks likeHow to grow a faith that can weather any storm Whether you're questioning beliefs you grew up with, returning after walking away, or simply longing for something deeper than cultural Christianity, this book offers hope. The same Jesus who told the parable 2,000 years ago is still calling people to follow Him—not to a life of performance, but to authentic relationship with the God who loves you completely.
Your story isn't over. In fact, it might just be beginning.

This is the kind of book that every Christian should have on their shelf. Jennifer provides clear explanations about the different kinds of faith and how we can be sure that we have the true foundational faith that God has called us to. She writes with purpose and intention, and shares personal stories from her own journey. I love the questions to reflect on, the practical steps and examples she includes to help us grow in our faith. Jennifer doesn’t hold back when she speaks about counting the cost of true Christianity. This isn’t a “feel good” book. It’s about being “all in” with Christ. She references true discipleship and relationship over legalistic Christianity. Along with these, she also provides lots of encouragement along the way! I highly recommend this book!
Another great book by Mrs. Yates! This one helps us understand how we come to be in the place we are in our faith and our walk with Christ, based upon the Parable of the Sower. She then shows us ways we can continue to grow and mature. One of my favorite quotes: "This is what authentic Christian community looks like-people who are devoted to learning truth together, caring for one another practically, worshiping genuinely, and living with joy that's attractive to others."
