A romance in the skies from an award-winning author and flight attendant

After Claire Holloway's dream of becoming a ballerina plummets, she's left with her boyfriend as her only support . . . until she decides to become a flight attendant for the free travel. Based out of state, she moves into a crash pad with a gaggle of other flight attendants, and her fear of losing Wyatt seems to become a reality.

First Officer Nathan Stuart—a bit cynical since he and his fiancée broke up—meets a somewhat frazzled Claire on her very first day in the Seattle airport. When they end up on the same crew, he takes her under his wing, and they quickly bond.

When Claire's once-supportive boyfriend's attitude sours into resentment, she's left wondering whether her newfound joy is the right way to go. Pulled between two men and her new career, Claire must learn to listen for God's direction the same way her flight crew follows air traffic control.

In this hilarious rom-com, readers will lift off into the turbulent skies of romantic adventures as Claire navigates God's plan for her life.

Claire Holloway is Winging It - Angela Ruth Strong

4.5 Stars (Rounding Up to 5)

I really enjoyed this book! She really handled this in a realistic way.

I really enjoyed this lighthearted Christian rom-com, my first read by Angela. Claire Holloway, a former ballerina turned flight attendant, meets Nathan at work, a pilot healing from heartbreak, while she’s still in a relationship with Wyatt. You think it's a love triangle, but it's not in the traditional sense.

While this trope isn’t usually my favorite, Angela handled it realistically and thoughtfully. If I had to read a book with a significant other story plot, this is how you do it gracefully.

The story emphasizes honesty, boundaries, and trusting God’s timing and plan. Nathan was sweet, supportive, and clearly a good Christian man, maintaining healthy boundaries despite his attraction to Claire. He knew what the right thing to do was and took necessary steps to ensure he was respectful.

I appreciated seeing Claire grow in faith and discern God’s direction for her life. Her journey from a people-pleaser to someone learning to trust God was beautifully done. I am a people-pleaser myself, so I found some of that relatable.

The book also highlights healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, friendship before romance, and the importance of waiting for marriage from a biblical perspective.

While I do wish Claire had ended things with Wyatt sooner, I appreciated seeing her grow and that makes sense for the pacing of the story. We really see, especially in the end, how she grows in faith and realizes her worth is in God and not a boyfriend. That in itself was beautiful.

Overall, Claire Holloway Is Winging It was a fun, heartfelt romance with a unique setting and likeable cast of characters. I enjoyed the humor, airline world and the journey the characters made realistically.

Content: Clean romance, FMC in relationship while thoughts of MMC but handled as well as it could be realistic way, brief mention of possible drug deal happening nearby, jokes about plane issues while flying, romance is kisses only, MMC walking through hard time after his ex cheated on him, cheating side characters mentioned, mention of church hurt in the past, mentions of past affairs. [Note: To be clear, we do not see much of her relationship with Wyatt on page outside of phone calls and texts until toward the end, and by then, it's obvious to the reader that they won't really work out and are not going to continue at some point.]

Thank you to the publisher, Kregel, for a complimentary copy of the book to honestly read and review. All thoughts are my own.

A solid 4⭐️!!! This book is a prime example of why I don’t like to dnf a book simply because I’m bored… Because what if it gets better? Oh my goodness, did this book get better!

I started off hating Claire, ended up loving her… started off hating Nathan, ended up loving him so much!!!! And I started off liking her boyfriend Wyatt, ended up hating him… and just slowly fell in love with this entire cast!

The writing felt choppy at times, especially in the beginning, and I think a lot of that has to do with my personal aversion towards First Person Present Tense… but, similarly to The Hunger Games Trilogy, it eventually stopped bothering me.

The faith content was absolutely beautiful & seeing both protagonists (and even some of the side characters) grown in their walks with Jesus was lovely!

I’m actually excited to know that she’s writing a sequel about Claire’s best friend! Will definitely be reading that!

This is hands-down my new favorite Angela Ruth Strong book. As with all the best books, it hooked me from the first page. I laughed, I got teary-eyed, I was profoundly moved, and I felt all the emotions in between.

From the blurb, this may sound like a love triangle, but it isn't. This is about pure, undefiled love. Love that seeks the best while following the Creator of love.

Angela has outdone herself with this one.

Claire Holloway is Winging It by: Angela Ruth Strong

Available now as audio, ebook, or paperback

📖After her career as a ballerina ends, Claire becomes a flight attendant to figure out a new dream for her life.

❤️ I loved

The humor- I flew through the first 100 pages and laughed out loud so many times

The experiences- Climbing mountains, boat rides, life as an attendant. All the places were described so well I felt like I was there.

The faith- Where is God in pain?
"Rather than take away our pain, Jesus joined us in it"

The found family- her crash pad crew were a great support cast and I loved seeing the airline community

The love- Love is not self seeking. Nathan chooses to love her in a way that is from a place of service and surrender to what is best for her. There is no love triangle here. There is genuine love and growth.

I wanted an epilogue. I would love a book 2 watching Claire and Nathan as a couple.

I was thrilled to get a sneek peek of Angel's story. I am excited to read more of this series as it releases.

This is my 4th read by Strong and my favorite of them all.

Highly recommend!

Super cute!

Claire Holloway is starting a new career in the skies after an injury ended her aspirations as a ballerina. She holds fast to the idea of a relationship with her boyfriend Wyatt. As Claire visits new cities, meets new people and lives in a new city, she learns what is really important to her. Along the way there are a number of laughs including protecting her eyes from a retina scratch.

I loved watching Claire's confidence and faith grow in the pages. Pilot Nathan also had great character growth. I look forward to the second book in the series.

My gratitude to publisher Kregel for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.

"Passengers mistakenly assume I know what I’m doing simply because I’m wearing a flight attendant uniform . They couldn’t be more wrong. I know how to arm airplane doors for departure. I know how to put on an oxygen mask. I know how to make a pot of coffee. I do not know where to find the S terminal at the Seattle airport . I’ve never been here before in my life."

When Claire Holloway signed up to become a flight attendant, she assumed that she would operate out of her local San Francisco airport. Instead, she finds herself in Seattle where she will be living in a crash pad with strangers - multiple roommates that she may barely see since they all are flight attendants. She thought she was ready to start over, but with so many changes pending, can she find a safe place to land?

Authors are supposed to write what they know. This is definitely the case for Angela Ruth Strong since she is a flight attendant. Her experiences add both authenticity and enjoyment to the plot. While the book is not autobiographical, since she wrote about places that she has been, you will feel like you are truly along for an actual ride.

Not every situation is easy. And not all of the people that Claire encounters may be worth knowing. Yet one cannot help but appreciate watching this inexperienced woman earn her wings. The faith element is important. I loved watching Claire learn to serve in whole new ways. The romance is worth remembering. I am so glad that there will be more books in this series!

For the flying phobic among us, this book will take you to friendly skies. While flight delays are inevitable, the details are slim. I think this book could inspire even the most fearful to want to give airlines another try.

I am so glad that I was able to read an advanced copy of this book. I requested to be a part of this novel's takeoff crew and to review it. All opinions are my own.

What I enjoyed about this novel was the "backstage" look at the life of a flight attendant.

Strong tells a light, fun story about a clueless young woman who becomes a flight attendant and learns a great deal about her job, life, love, and growing up.

It made for a fun, easy read in an otherwise stressful time!

This book is super fun and cute! It’s a fun lighthearted read, and the character’s friendship and wit were refreshing! I don’t usually read a lot of contemporary rom-coms, but this book makes me want to read more! The faith themes were sweet and strong and I loved the “inside” view of a flight attendant’s job! So cool. Can’t wait for the next one!

Fasten your seatbelt and get ready for an adventure in Claire Holloway Is Winging It. Strong crafted another marvelous read containing faith, laughable moments, romance, and well-written characters with real-life struggles. I enjoyed the chemistry between former ballerina turned flight attendant Claire Holloway and First Officer Nathan Stuart, the witty banter, and the flying puns. I thoroughly enjoyed learning factoids about flying through the eyes of a flight attendant and a pilot.

Written by real-life flight attendant, Angela Ruth Strong, Claire Holloway is Winging It is a delightful rom-com bursting with cute moments, punny plane jokes, and a sweet happy ending.

Claire becomes a flight attendant after loosing her life-long dream of becoming a ballerina, and is stationed in Seattle, far from her San Fransisco home and boyfriend. Feeling overwhelmed and scared in a new city, Claire finds comfort and friendship with Nathan, a first officer with her airline. For Nathan, it's practically love at first site. While he wants nothing more than to spend time with Claire, he knows he needs to protect both of their hearts because she is in a relationship with another man. As they fly more routes together, their friendship grows. When Claire has to decide between moving back to San Fransisco and moving in with her boyfriend, or staying in Seattle and continuing her new career, she's forced to face the reality of her relationships, not what she wishes they were.

From a Christian perspective, having at least one of the MCs developing feelings for the other while they are still fully in a relationship crosses into gray area for me. However, I think the author did a wonderful job of portraying this reality (it happens!) in a positive way that shows the characters placing boundaries and honoring them. Nathan, while really into Claire, tries his best to distance himself outside of work situations, and do what's best for Claire despite what he wants. He does think her boyfriend isn't good enough for her, but he keeps those thoughts to himself. What he is able to offer her instead is friendship and a sense of safety in her new city. Their dynamic was very sweet and never crossed any lines into cheating, or anything close to it.

We get glimpses of Claire's relationship with Wyatt, her boyfriend, but we don't really see them interact much on page, except for a few texts and phone calls. When we do finally get to see them face-to-face, it's clear that this isn't the man for her. As a reader, you'll be wishing she had realized that sooner.

Outside of the romantic relationships in the story, a big focus is on Claire's growing trust and faith in God, and how she finds her purpose and calling through him. The book starts with her feeling lost and purposeless after loosing her ballet career, and she's desperately searching to find her place in the world. What she finds is a way to find purpose through her new career as a flight attendant, but also opportunities to minister to those less fortunate–the very people who would have previously scared her into swinging a soda in a sock at them (IYKYK). I loved the emphasis on Claire finding her purpose through seeking and reconnecting with God, not as a result of a romantic relationship.

What I enjoyed about the story:
✈️ A relatable FMC
✈️ A sweet MMC trying to do the right thing
✈️ Travel
✈️ Laugh out loud airplane/flying jokes
✈️ Thorough details about being a flight attendant (you'll learn a lot!)
✈️ A great cast of supporting characters (looking forward to Angel's story in Book 2!)
✈️ A chaste, but sweet ending

⚠️ Content Warnings:
- MMC falls while FMC is in a relationship
- Homelessness
- Cheating significant other (off page, not with main characters)
- 1 brief mention of possible drug deal happening nearby
- Several "jokes" about planes dropping/falling 😬

Again, the faith content in the book was moderate to strong. We see God work through supporting characters that serve as mentors and accountability partners, and they actively keep the MMC in check. We also see characters return to church, and get involved in ministry. There are strong themes of serving others.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 4.5 stars

This is a great light and funny read. If you enjoy a good rom-com, witty jokes and puns, and characters who find belonging, you'll enjoy this one! The book releases on March 17th; grab your pre-order today!

CLAIRE HOLLOWAY IS WINGING IT by Angela Ruth Strong is the magnificent story of Claire Holloway, former ballerina turned flight attendant, and First Officer Nathan Stuart, recovering from a break up by tearing down walls at home, as they work through their problems and becoming great friends.

Claire thought her life would be on the stage as a ballerina, but a trigger toe closed the curtain on that dream. She decides to soar the skies and see a bit of the world along the way. Giving a passenger bad directions before even getting on her first flight, arriving at her crash pad to find out it isn’t anything like advertised and a fear of losing Wyatt over the miles between them, have her nerves on edge wondering if she’s made right choice in jobs. Learning about the job, making friends and learn more about herself and her true goals in life confirm she’s where she should be.

First Officer Nathan Scott was sure Joey would be his bride, until he caught her with another man. It felt like his parent’s history repeating itself. From their first meeting where he finds her hiding from a passenger to her revelation about a soda can in a sock for protection, the new flight attendant has him smiling. However, a friendly, maybe not so subtle reminder from a friend that she’s just as much off limits as his ex-fiancée should have been, reminds him that they can only be friends. Often times he finds it hard to stay neutral and while his feelings may deepen, he won't cross that line.

Can Nathan get Claire to realize her true self-worth? When Wyatt seems to show signs of jealousy over Nathan, can Claire redirect him by fixing Nathan up with someone else? Will an accident and a Sunday morning church service be what it takes to begin to open Claire’s eyes? Will a request by Wyatt, that sounds like an ultimatum to Claire and that goes against her beliefs, have her realizing she doesn’t “have” to have a man in her life to be complete? Can either Claire or Nathan find that one-in-a-million, happily-ever-after love?

CLAIRE HOLLOWAY IS WINGING IT is a lighthearted Christian rom-com that will keep the reader smiling, often stopping to ponder over a thought-provoking phrase or dialogue, and quickly turning pages hoping two friends can finally open up their hearts to the right one. Angela Ruth Strong gives us humor, friendship, family, forgiveness, romance, learning we are exactly where we are intended to be, dedication to one’s job, being true to oneself, and wraps it all in a phenomenal thread of faith. CLAIRE HOLLOWAY IS WINGING IT is without a doubt, wholeheartedly a FIVE-STAR book that I highly recommend to everyone!

Claire Holloway Is Winging It by Angela Ruth Strong follows Claire, a retired ballerina who has recently become a flight attendant and is about to begin her new career in the friendly skies. After a devastating injury ended her ballet career, she’s starting over and learning how to build a life that looks completely different from the one she planned. Claire stumbles through the early weeks of her new routine, making friends and learning her craft, while trying to figure out who she is without dance. On the way to her new job, she runs into First Officer Nathan Stuart, a pilot for the airline. When he stops to help her and offers a few helpful pointers as she finds her footing, they strike up a friendship.

Nathan dreams of being a husband and a father, but after losing his hometown sweetheart, he isn’t sure what comes next. Still healing from a devastating breakup, he’s drawn to Claire, but soon realizes she’s dating someone else. He has to reconcile his attraction with the reality that she’s taken, that she’s oblivious to what he’s feeling, and what it looks like to be a good friend to her.

This story is thought-provoking, filled with moments of deep reflection, as well as the silly antics of passengers, flight attendants, and pilots. It’s easy to see how the author’s real-life experience as a flight attendant adds authenticity and charm. Some moments made me laugh, others made me think, and all of it kept me entertained.

At its heart, this is a story about growth. Claire is rediscovering herself after losing ballet, learning who she is now, what she wants for the future, and where God is in all of it. For Nathan, meeting Claire stirs up hope, but their friendship also requires restraint. He learns to be the bigger person, to care about what’s best for her without trying to sway her away from a boyfriend who doesn’t seem to appreciate her the way he should.

With guidance from an older pilot, support from friends, and a steady reliance on God, Claire and Nathan find peace in their circumstances. While there’s romance here, it’s really a story about two people learning to trust God’s plans and seek His will. I really enjoyed the strong faith thread throughout, the thoughtful writing, and the entertaining glimpse into the men and women who make air travel possible for us all. Recommended for readers who love gentle romance with humor, heart, and purpose.

Put your tray in the upright position, fasten your seatbelt, & get ready for a delightful adventure! Claire Holloway is Winging It is my first book by Angela Ruth Strong & definitely won’t be my last! I adored this funny, sweet, heart achingly lovely romcom. From all the awkward moments a flight attendant endures to the endearingly quirky characters to moments of faith & reflection, I loved every moment.

When Claire Holloway’s dreams of being a professional ballerina are crushed, she decides to take a job as a flight attendant. Her first moments on the job give her pause when she finds herself alone in Seattle trying to find her crash pad. But, the charming pilot who offers assistance becomes an instant friend & luckily lives just across the street. Claire’s practically engaged to Wyatt who lives in San Francisco, but the distance creates issues especially when he becomes jealous of the time she spends with her handsome neighbor, First Officer Nathan Stuart.

After believing his ex fiancé cheated on him, Nathan’s determined not to be the other man. Though he falls hard for the quirky, delightful Claire, he knows she’s taken & tries to keep their relationship well within the bounds of friendship. Their frequent flights together, hikes & excursions on layovers, & shared faith only make their bond grow. But, can he continue to keep his feelings in check when Claire tries to set him up with her friend & it’s clear Claire’s boyfriend may not be the best choice for her.

I loved this story! Ahh, the yearning. Nathan definitely falls first & hard, but is such a gentleman. He never tries to force their relationship to be more than friendship. Claire’s bubbly, fun, & a delight. I enjoyed all her flight attendant mishaps. From difficult passengers to many hilarious scenarios, I gained a new appreciation for the hard working men & women of the airlines. I also enjoyed all the endearing side characters who offer wisdom & guidance just when it’s needed. While I was cheering the whole time for Claire & Nathan to be together, I loved the way their relationship progressed naturally from friendship to more with no cheating involved.

Highly recommend! Can’t wait for more! I received an advanced copy from the publisher with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.

“That’s when it helps to see God as the control tower. He could be protecting you from something. Or even leading you somewhere better.”

I can count on an Angela Ruth Strong book for unpredictable, raucous laughter, hilarity, and a bit of mayhem. ( I may or may not have had to stuff a sock in my mouth late at night so as not to wake a sleeping hubby!) I can also count on Strong to slip in Biblical-based Truth that has me evaluating if my life matches my words.

Claire Holloway is Winging It had my attention from the first sentence. I was cracking up every other sentence, it seemed like. Claire has lost one dream, so she decides to embark on a new career. Problem is, she is sure she will fail and we all know how self-fulfilling prophecies work!

From Claire’s first unsuccessful airport encounter to her meeting helpful, good- looking pilot Nathan Stuart, Claire stumbles through belly-laugh inducing situations. While believer Nathan is determined to win Claire over, Claire has to deal with her absent ,distracted, and jealous boyfriend back home.

The story flows well. Strong tells it in her unique voice, using first person POV, alternating back and forth between labeled chapters for Claire or Nathan.

I loved the camaraderie that we see develop between Claire, Nathan, and Vincent and his wife, Desiree. Vincent and Desiree add plenty of humor, but they also speak Truth into both Nathan’s and Claire’s lives. Desiree starts small with Claire, by empathizing. “It’s hard to have your life reflowed.” Strong lets us see inside the back curtains of the flight world as she deftly weaves in the message that God has a plan for each life, though it may be different than what we were aiming for.

Vincent and Desiree are runaways for fave secondary characters. They are so funny, so kind, and speak the Truth so well! “Truly loving someone means you’re more afraid of harming them than losing them.” Ouch, that is a Truth Nathan doesn’t want to hear!!

I must say, though, Angel is a most interesting character. I had to wonder if I would have judged her as “less than” in real life. But when she learns spiritual lessons, she’s no faker!! I loved her! “Rather than take away our pain, Jesus joined us in it.” Angel shares this Truth, and Claire thinks of a flight “real-life example” she experienced. Suddenly, I too, was thrilled to feel I finally understood a Truth I could never quite wrap my head around!!

I received a copy of the book from the author and publisher via NetGalley. I also bought my own copy for the trophy shelf. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“It’s my job to make passengers happy.” “It’s never your job to make anyone happy.”- Claire, Nathan

“Fear is like gravity in a topsy-turvy world.

“That’s when it helps to see God as the control tower. He could be protecting you from something. Or even leading you somewhere better.”-Desiree

“You’ve got to take the good with the bad and trust that the smaller sacrifices are worth the greater good.” - Desiree

“Loving someone is never a mistake. Even if it hurts.”- Vincent

“But rather than place blame, we could focus on how we don’t have to bear our pain alone.” - Angel

“I think maybe God is the light, and we have to draw close to Him to see the difference between our false judgments and our true discernments.” - Claire

If you love a great rom-com, then Claire Holloway Is Winging It is for you. From the very beginning, Angela Ruth Strong hooked me in, and I could not put this book down.

Claire, a former ballerina, has to give up her dancing career due to trigger foot. She has decided to become a flight attendant. When she is stationed out of Seattle, she moves there. At the airport, she runs into First Officer Nathan. Nathan helps Claire navigate to her crash pad, a place where other flight attendants are housed. But with the nature of the job, they aren’t always there at the same time. When Claire finds herself on the same flight crew as Nathan, they soon find themselves becoming friends, exchanging inside jokes and witty banter.

Nathan has been burned before, by his ex-fiancée, who he thought was cheating on him and broke things off. So, Nathan is a little guarded, but Claire catches his eye. When he learns that she has a boyfriend, Nathan does not pursue Claire. He wants what is best for Claire, and if that is her relationship with Wyatt, then Nathan wants to support Claire. Nathan is working his way up to being a pilot. He has had some delays in his career. But he has been able to meet some really great people in the process.

Though this somewhat reads like a love triangle, it was done in the purest of ways. Claire and Nathan are friends. Claire is in a relationship with Wyatt and not pursuing Nathan, but rather trying to set him up with her roommate. Nathan has feelings for Claire, but since she is in a relationship, he distances himself from her and wants what is best for Claire. In the purest of love and friendship, putting the other person above your own desires and wanting what is best for the other person, even at the loss to yourself.  Wyatt, on the other hand, is not the purest. He is trying to manipulate Claire into moving in with him, even though he makes comments that he isn’t really interested in marriage right away. I love that Claire sticks to her faith and her convictions and does not cave to Wyatt. I appreciate that in this love triangle, there was no cheating involved.

Angela Ruth Strong did a great job of intertwining faith throughout the story.

From the first page to the last page this book was a joy-filled romantic adventure! Claire Holloway is one of those characters you instantly fall in love with, one where if she was real you'd want to be her best friend. I loved reading her story, from the hilarious hijinks she experiences as an airline stewardess, to the personal growth she experiences as she learns how to live a life that doesn't look like what she thought her life would be like.
The romance between her and Nathan was swoony perfection. They have instant chemistry together, which is hampered by the fact that Claire has a boyfriend.
What I really loved about this book was how the author never made the romance between Nathan and Claire into one of those standard "yeah, she's with this guy but this other guy is totally perfect so it makes it completely acceptable for her to cheat or be awful to her current boyfriend" books. I appreciate how the author showed the genuine attraction between Claire and Nathan, but balanced it out by Claire's moral choice to remain faithful to her boyfriend, and Nathan's gentlemanly behavior to not be the reason for heartache for either Claire or her boyfriend.
So many books make it seem like just because the boyfriend isn't the greatest that that automatically makes it okay for the heroine to go for the other love interest. And it's not. I loved that about this book. The author did a great job showing what real love is, which is wanting the best for another person even if that best isn't you.
I highly, highly recommend this book. It's one for the keeper shelves, and it's a perfect book to disappear into to forget your problems and realize how much good is still out there in this world.

Thanks to NetGalley and Kregal Publications for a print and digital advance reader copy. All comments and opinions are my own unless otherwise noted.

This was a charming, faith-based rom-com where both the guy and the gal are second guessing themselves and each other. These characters were so likable and you know they’ll end up together in the end – no spoilers, it’s just that kind of scenario.

Due to an injury, Claire relinquishes her career as a ballet dancer for that of a flight attendant. This rom-com has some aspects based on reality, as the author is an authentic flight attendant and includes many of her actual experiences within the novel. The fast-moving plot kept me cheering for Claire as it juxtaposes her new career with her often unfounded fears of travel, passengers, and homeless people.

In addition to the romance angle with witty banter, several characters share their sincere faith while Claire discovers a personal relationship with God. Faith conversations are balanced with the ins and outs of being a flight attendant as well as flight crew scheduling and that unique lifestyle.

While this is the story of two flight crew members who travel to various cities, the Seattle location is highlighted in a way that makes it almost another character. I enjoyed the scenic site descriptions that also included San Francisco as well as Half Dome, Austin, and a few additional western cities.

I have read several other contemporary, clean romances by Angela Strong and this one didn’t disappoint. If you’re looking for a sweet story where the main character develops confidence as she learns to be true to herself, you’ll enjoy this light-hearted and life-changing adventure that is the first in a new series.

“Loving someone is never a mistake. Even if it hurts.”

“. . . loving someone means you’re more afraid of harming them than you are of losing them.”

Talented author Angela Ruth Strong brings her experiences as a flight attendant into her new series, A High-Flying Romance. The first book, Claire Holloway is Winging It, stars Claire as a brand-new flight attendant at the Seattle airport, after being sidelined from her ballerina dreams because of an injury. On her first day, pilot Nathan Stuart witnesses her humiliation as she misdirects a passenger, causing the lady to miss her flight. As Nathan takes Claire under his wing to help her adjust to her new job, they share some amusing experiences.

This book is full of hilarious situations with witty banter and a realistic, engaging cast of characters. It also has some inspirational threads of faith, hope, and trusting God.

“. . . it helps to see God as the control tower. He could be protecting you from something. Or even leading you somewhere better.”

I enjoyed the interaction between Claire and Nathan and also between Claire and her other friends. I’m hoping to see more of them in future books. Anyone who has ever flown in an airplane will be able to visualize the crazy happenings as the author depicts them. It was interesting to learn a few new things about being a flight attendant and flying in general.

The epigraphs with quotes about flying at the beginning of the chapters are a fun addition.

“Every takeoff is optional. Every landing is mandatory. -- Unknown.”

I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. 4.5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Claire Holloway Is Winging It by Angela Ruth Strong is a Christian contemporary romance novel. I wasn't sure what to think of this one when I heard that it was a love triangle story. However, having read it, I felt that trope was well-done.

Claire Holloway was a ballerina who lost her dream of performing when she developed some foot issues. Her boyfriend, Wyatt, continued to support her and she valued that support and saw him as her main support. Then she decided to become a flight attendant and he isn't too happy to support her in that dream. He struggles with her being gone so much as he works in a regular office.

First officer pilot in training Nathan Stuart recently faced a break-up with his fiance. He had been feeling down about that until he meets the frazzled Claire on her first day on the job. From the first day they met, Nathan and Claire share some humor and have a friendly bond. Does it stretch the boundaries of friendship?

Claire continues to try to keep her relationship with Wyatt going. But are their differing values becoming a problem? Nathan has some healing to do in his own life from past hurts. He can see God working in Claire's life but can he see it in his own too?

Claire Holloway is Winging It was a quick read for me. I enjoyed the relationships all the way around but most especially the friendships. I liked how Claire and Nathan each had healing in their lives in their own way. I absolutely loved the swoony ending. I have to add that I absolutely love this gorgeous cover--that definitely fits the book!

I am looking forward to Angel's story next in the High Flying Romance series. We get a preview at the end of this book that definitely leaves the reader wanting more.

Oh, I’ve been waiting for this story to come out for a while!
I love every book Angela Ruth Strong writes. They are always full of fun, delightful, and full of crazy adventures. This new series has it all, and it’s even set in the Pacific Northwest. So fun!
If you’ve ever taken an airplane ride, you know many of the things that happen on a plane, but then again, do you really know?
Claire is a new flight attendant who has so many things happen in her first day that you wonder if she’ll ever make it. Nathan is a dashing young pilot whom Claire stumbles upon. Their lives are thrown together in such an engaging way that you can’t stop reading.
This author knows all about flying as a flight attendant because she is one, and the events in this book are fun stories she’s heard about or has experienced herself.
Angela Ruth Strong has a wonderful way of writing fun, quirky, and touching stories that convey sweet life lessons. Her stories flow with great dialogue and wonderful word pictures of places, people, and relationships. While reading this book, I could just picture myself flying in a plane and knowing all that she was talking about. Her books have a realness and honesty that make the issues each of her characters faces relatable.
As a reader, I am always touched by what she writes. Now, I just have to wait for the next book in the series, so I can know what it’s like to ride in elite/first class.
If you’ve never read any of Angela Ruth Strong’s books, you need to pick up a few. I highly recommend this book and the whole series!
The publisher gave me this book, but this did not influence my review in any way; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed reading Claire Holloway Is Winging It, the first book in Angela Ruth Strong’s High-Flying Romance series set in Seattle. Claire is embarking on a new career as a flight attendant. She relocates to Seattle after her professional ballerina career dreams are shattered. Nathan is a First Officer pilot who is recovering from a difficult breakup with his former fiancée from his Washington home town.

Claire and Nathan’s meet cute at the airport is hilarious and ridiculous. Despite their initial attraction, they quickly friend zone each other for different reasons. Claire has a boyfriend in San Francisco and she wants a work transfer back home. Nathan develops an adorable case of unrequited love as he falls for Claire, knowing they can’t have a future together.

Their friends-to-more romance is fun and sweet as they work together on domestic flights. They travel to iconic destinations and spend time together with work friends. I loved how the side characters played important roles in the story.

The love triangle dynamics challenge Claire to deal with her emotional baggage and make a few important decisions. Nathan has his own emotional baggage to unpack during the story. I loved how the characters have deep faith conversations that address trust and forgiveness themes.

I recommend Claire Holloway Is Winging It to contemporary romance readers who like cute friends-to-more and second chances romcoms with forced proximity, unrequited love, a love triangle with a twist, and strong faith elements in the story.

Many thanks to Kregel for the advanced reader copy.

"Claire Holloway is Winging It" by Angela Ruth Strong, is by far the best rom com I've read this year! This book has a great premise with a former ballerina turned flight attendant trying to find her way in life. She's loyal, hardworking and cares about those around her. Claire is even loyal to a boyfriend that doesn't treat her all too well and I would say has rose colored glasses when she thinks of him. When she meets pilot Nathan her first day on the job, she meets someone who is there to support her even if he can't ever date her in real life.

I like the crazy cast of characters at the "crash pad" where Claire lives. The roommate situation is so intriguing and I know the author pulled so many things from her own experience as a flight attendant to write this book. That insider knowledge is priceless and it really made for a great story where I learned quite a bit about the behind the scenes part of being part of flight crew.

This book not only had laugh-out-loud moments, but we also see some heartwarming parts where the main character Claire grows in her Christian faith and to let God lead her life. She experiences some pivotal changes that lead her to be who God wants her to be.

This story really has it all and is just wonderful. I've been telling everyone about it since I was given the opportunity to read a copy of the book early. I was not required to leave a review but I want to because I truly enjoyed this book so much and really enjoyed the story. It's one I will want to read and re-read again in the future.

Claire Holloway is Winging It is a delightful, fun read! I love all the behind-the-scenes tidbits of life as a flight attendant. Claire experiences the good, the bad, and the ugly, sometimes all in the same flight, and keeps on chugging, determined to make the best of her total career shift after her career as a professional ballerina ends abruptly. I loved how Nathan (and her new flight attendant besties!) took her under his wing to teach her the ropes and show her some of the perks of being on a flight crew, with sightseeing in the places where they're spending the night. I'm not a huge fan of the characters falling in love while one is still in a relationship, even if it's not a good one, but Strong was careful to draw the boundaries, and showed Nathan carefully keeping boundaries in place outside of work so that he wasn't trying to convince Claire to cheat. I do wish Claire would have realized sooner that her boyfriend was not good for her, simply to put Nathan out of his misery faster!

The faith thread in this story was also fabulous. Claire grew so much over the course of her story, going from having a barely-there faith, wondering what her purpose was and if she could trust God at all, to a thriving faith where she found a new purpose in her new career and also at her new church, and knowing that she could trust God with her life.

I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley and was not required to leave a review. This opinion is my own.

This book was wonderful. I read it all in one sitting. Claire and Nathan had an instant friendship that grew into a deeper friendship with inside jokes and someone to lean on when they were away from home or did not know where home was anymore.

Claire has decided to give being a flight attendant a try. Now that ballet is off the table she needs to find her calling again, but it takes her states away and away from her boyfriend. She is out of her comfort zone, but thank goodness for her roommates and coworkers helping her find her footing. When she strikes up a friendship with Nathan it truly brings joy to her life as a friend and someone who helps her grow in her faith. But being with him causes conflict for her relationship back home, one that is already struggling with the distance. Claire may have to choose between her career or her relationship, but maybe what brings her joy should not just be those things. Maybe dependency on God will guide that choice, her future, and maybe where love may lead her.

Loved this. Loved the banter, the friendship, the whole flight crew, and the fun stories. Not going to lie, I worried about the love triangle presented in the synopsis... because I did not want cheating (and there is none) Angela balances it all perfectly. I cannot wait for Angel’s story.

I gave this 4.5 stars rounded up to a 5. I need an epilogue for these two.

I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.

If you are looking for a sweet, clean & faith-based rom-com that will make your heart soar … here ya go! This one was a five-star delight for me! Funny, swoony & just a “feel good all over” kind of story!

Claire Holloway has just relocated to Seattle to start her career as a flight attendant. She’s in a brand new city, with a brand new job … miles from her boyfriend & her original dream of a life in ballet. She moves into a crash pad with 9 other flight attendants where she can bide her time until she is transferred back to her home city & return to her man! The sooner, the better cuz things seem to be a little up in the air where their long-distance relationship is concerned. Claire just wants to settle into her new life, discover her purpose, enjoy some free travel & find a safe place to land. But she never counted on First Officer Nathan Stuart … and now her original flight plan may be in for a big diversion!

I absolutely LOVED this book! Angela has such a great writing style … it’s laugh out loud funny with fantastic banter (pop in a sock, I’m looking at you!), it's got heart with such wonderful characters & it’s got swoon with a sweet romance!!! I just couldn’t get enough of this story! It’s not just entertaining, it’s meaningful & thought provoking in all the right ways!

So buckle your seat belts, make sure your carry ons are secured & your seats & trays are in their upright positions … then turn on airplane mode, silence the world around you & settle in for a first class ride! You’ll be happy with your destination! 🥰

PS: So excited for the next book in this series to arrive where we get to spend some time traveling with Angel! Can’t wait for her to find her HEA!

Thank you to @kregelbooks and @ang_strong for the #gifted copy!

This was a delightful read. The author gives us an inside look at the life of a flight attendant because she is one! Ms. Strong brings so much insight to this cute story but also much spiritual depth.
“I have never understood the Bible better than I do at this moment. Rather than take away our pain, .Jesus joined us in it.”
Claire Holloway is forced to set aside her ballerina dreams but lands a job as a flight attendant. The story starts on her maiden voyage where she meets Nathan Stuart a co-pilot fresh from a breakup with his fiancée.
With her signature wit and whimsy, the author also shows the faith journey of both Nathan and Claire, and brings in colorful characters Vincent, Desiree and colleagues from her crash pad. Angel becomes a good friend and will be featured in the next book. The author teases with a sneak peek of her story at the end of the book. I can hardly wait.
I loved the behind-the-scenes glimpse at the life of those who fly. The descriptions of the sight seeing was a treat too. What struck me most was how the author effortlessly wove in spiritual truths and a solid gospel message. A winner all the way around.

4.5 stars!

I giggled more times then I can count reading this book. And the entire time I am picturing Strong as the heroine since I know she is a flight attendant lol. I know, of course, that's not how she intended it, but I couldn't help myself. Poor Claire. She went through a lot thanks to her, um, interesting passengers lol. But she handled it with grace and poise and I just loved it.

I will say that I am not a fan of a love triangle, and that is the only reason I dinged the rating a little bit. This is just my own personal preference and nothing at all to do with Strong's writing ability. I wish she had broken up with her boyfriend before she started to truly think about Nathan in that way.

Speaking of which, Nathan is a fantastic hero. He really tries not to have feelings for Claire, but alas he can't help it. But I love that he didn't really act on it. He sort of forced himself to stay in the "friend zone" for as long as he could, all the while having these feelings on the inside - which we get to see because we get his pov!!

All in all this was just what I needed right now - comedy and romance perfectly blended together. I read it pretty quick, and I cannot wait to see what Strong brings us next. I hope it's more stories like this!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a favorable review.

This review by librarian Christine Barth was first published in the Jan. 2026 issue of Library Journal.

Claire Holloway is ready for her new career as a flight attendant to take off. Moving to Seattle to live in a crash pad with nine other flight attendants, however, along with learning all the strict rules for in-flight service, have her stressing about making a mess of things.
Her one hope is being transferred back to San Francisco to be with her boyfriend, who will almost certainly propose soon.
But then several chance encounters with Nathan Stuart, the handsome copilot across the street, help make Claire realize that adventure is available for those who seek it. Nathan is happy to show newbies the ropes in the airline industry, but he wants nothing to do with romance after his failed engagement. If only he could stop his mind from straying to Claire and stop himself from joining the flight crew she's assigned to.
VERDICT: Strong (Husband Auditions) draws readers in with witty banter and quirky characters and keeps them with her depictions of real-life struggles of modern Christians. Drawing heavily on Strong's own experience as a flight attendant, this peek into the cockpit and the galley is a delightful read.

"I will not make a soda-in-a-sock joke. I will not make a soda-in-a-sock joke.

Newly minted flight attendant Claire Holloway is barely getting her wings under her feet when her first assignment lands her in the Seattle, Washington airport. Upon arrival, Claire proceeds to capitalize on the handsome stature of first officer Nathan Stuart to dodge an embarrassing conversation with a fellow traveller. Was her technique successful? Absolutely not!

Nathan Stuart is totally entertained by his first impression of the lovely rookie flight attendant as she fumbles her way through their chance meeting. Taking pity on Claire's knowing-no-one predicament, he offers to help her navigate the best transportation to her crash pad, giving her other pointers along the way. Besides, they will probably never see each other again. Wouldn't that be a shame?

To say that I loved this book would be a vast understatement. Its comedic veneer stabilizies incredibly deep authentic cries of the soul from within its characters, which rather than shy away from, the author meets head-on. And I'm so glad that she did, because everyone needs a reminder what love should and does look like. God had it right all along.
