In this gripping finale to the Becky White series, a Russian oligarch's murder sparks a high-stakes investigation.
Becky faces roadblocks from her nemesis, and boss Quentin, and suspicious secrecy from her partner, DI Finn.
The narrative takes a bold, fast-paced turn, jumping forward to Becky’s life after the force. While the time skip is initially confusing, it expertly sets the stage for a poignant tale of reflection and redemption. It’s a fitting, emotional end to a fantastic series.
My thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is my own opinion.

I have a huge interest in crime novels with strong female leads, so I was pleased to receive an ARC of Consequencesthrough NetGalley. True to form, I’ve started at the end of the series, catching Becky White at what seems to be the closing chapter of her story.

White is a detective working in a male-dominated environment, facing misogyny and bullying—often from within the police itself. These are themes I tend to enjoy, and White’s personal history, which is only partly revealed here, made me want to go back and explore the earlier books. The novel alternates between first-person perspectives, creating a varied and dynamic narrative voice.

Once I found my bearings, I enjoyed some of the book. The mystery is engaging, though occasionally confusing. About a third of the way through there’s a sudden shift that introduces new characters—presumably familiar to returning readers—but disorienting for newcomers. The pace never drags, but I would have welcomed a few sections to either recap past events or orient new readers more clearly. By halfway I was finding it very frustrating. There were too many threads and too much improbable action

From a procedural standpoint, the investigation initially felt tight and reasonably convincing. However, some of the surrounding behaviour stretched credibility. The portrayal of Quentin, the overbearing senior officer, felt exaggerated; it’s hard to imagine someone behaving that way in a modern police force. Finn’s personal troubles, his questionable relationships, and the way his misconduct is brushed aside also seemed implausible. His storyline, in particular, pushed the limits of believability. As the plot thickened the loss of realism became too much for me and I lost interest in the story.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Consequences: A Becky White Thriller by Jo Fenton delivers a tense and emotionally driven crime thriller that explores how past actions can resurface with dangerous results.

The story centers on private investigator Becky White, whose life and career are suddenly disrupted when a decades old betrayal returns to the surface. What begins as a cold case soon develops into a complex investigation involving revenge, deception, and violence within Manchester’s criminal underworld.

Working alongside her team at the White Knight Detective Agency, Becky must untangle a web of secrets before the situation spirals beyond control. The stakes continue to rise as the investigation reveals hidden connections and long buried resentments that refuse to stay in the past.

At the same time, Becky’s former partner Finn faces challenges of his own, battling both external threats and personal conflicts. His storyline adds another layer of tension, highlighting how loyalty and trust can become fragile when old secrets begin to surface.

Set in Manchester, the novel combines gritty atmosphere with emotional depth. The pacing keeps the suspense high while gradually revealing the motivations and consequences behind each character’s actions.

Overall, Consequences is a compelling entry in the Becky White series, delivering suspense, character driven drama, and a satisfying exploration of how the past can shape the present in unexpected ways.

In Consequences, Jo Fenton delivers a taut, emotionally charged finale to the Becky White series—one that hums with the weight of old betrayals and the urgency of unfinished business. When a cold case resurfaces, private investigator Becky White is thrust into a dangerous reckoning with the past, where every truth uncovered carries a cost.

Set against the simmering backdrop of Manchester’s criminal underworld, the novel pulses with grit and heart. Fenton’s prose is sharp yet intimate, capturing both the adrenaline of the chase and the quiet ache of fractured loyalties. Becky remains a compelling force—resilient, intuitive, and deeply human—as she navigates a web of lies that threatens not only her safety but her sense of self.

What elevates Consequences is its emotional resonance. Beneath the suspense lies a story of redemption, reckoning, and the fragile hope that even the deepest wounds can heal. It’s a fitting, powerful close to a series that has always balanced darkness with grace.

With thanks to Jo Fenton, the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

From the opening chapters, the story pulls you into a tense race against time as past betrayals resurface and threaten everything Becky has built with the White Knight Detective Agency. I really appreciated how the cold case at the heart of the novel is deeply personal, forcing Becky to confront old wounds while navigating present-day danger in Manchester’s criminal underworld. The stakes feel high throughout, especially as trust becomes increasingly fragile and loyalties are tested on all sides. The pacing is sharp, the twists feel earned, and the emotional weight of long-buried secrets coming to light gives the story real impact. Even without reading the earlier books, the narrative stands firmly on its own, while still rewarding long-time readers with meaningful resolution. This was a tense, emotionally charged crime thriller that delivered on every level.

Becky White working as a private detective is struggling to understand an old case of the murder of a billionaire. Working with her associates and her best friend Finn, she needs to work out what happens how it is impacting her still.

The story starts slowly with the previous background (where Becky was still a police officer) and gradually builds momentum with her and Finn fighting their own demons as well as needing to solve the case.

Thank you NetGalley and Little Book Factory for the eARC.
Apparently this is the final book in the Becky White series and I think would have enjoyed it more had I read the previous ones.
Other than that, I enjoyed the book. I liked Becky, she had to put up with a lot of grief from her boss, but she handled it well. The murder case was a puzzler and I liked the solving of it.

A great detective series with a female lead. Becky White is now a PI having left the police.
Manchester’s underworld being responsible for the criminal side of the story. As the story unfolds, it takes us to a fast-paced conclusion.
Everything in this book pulls the story together tying up all the loose ends.
Well written and good to read.
