Nikola Adamant is Prince and General both. One of the victors of the civil war that tore apart the interstellar Kingdom of Adamant, he has seen his sister Lorraine elected to their mother’s throne.
The consequences of their victory and their rogue uncle’s secrets continue to reverberate throughout their region of space, and King Lorraine cannot leave their home world.
It falls to Nikola, now First Pentarch of Adamant and Brigadier General in the Adamant Army, to be his sister’s voice and sword, to stand against those who see weakness—and to pursue the secret that could define or destroy their nation!
Glynn Stewart is the author of over 60 books, including Starship’s Mage, a bestselling science fiction and fantasy series where faster-than-light travel is possible–but only because of magic.
Writing managed to liberate Glynn from a bleak future as an accountant. With his personality and hope for a high-tech future intact, he lives in Southern Ontario with his partner, their cats, and an unstoppable writing habit.
Peace has been restored but there is much to do. Lorraine sits on the Throne with all the responsibilities that go with it as realities set in, but she is strong and has good people to support her.
Nikola has his hands full also, with all the disruptions and loss of life, compliments of his Uncle’s failed attempt to seize control of the Throne. It’s a mess, so much has changed and the military needs a full overhaul.
What Nikola didn’t need, was intelligence suggesting the Directorate was moving a large force of ships, but to where? Was it directed towards his immediate part of the world? The information was sketchy but something needed to be done. A force is assembled to investigate at first hand and what he discovers is far from good but he is out numbered.
The pace picks up as the plot unfolds, our Author takes us on a ride into a mess that looks impossible. I enjoyed this Fifth episode of House Adamant very much.
As thrilling and engrossing as the space battles are in this novel, the internal battle of a certain prince are the heart of this book. The author did an excellent job of unveiling the inner thoughts, doubts and pain of a survivor of a particularly vicious civil war. Nikola has so much to overcome in order to be the prince he wants and needs to be, but he proves that even as troubled as he is, he is still capable of standing for his House and his Nation. Adamant, indeed!
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Nikola Adamant is front and centre in this book. The civil war has taken a huge toll on him mentally and it is something he has to deal with when his sister (the king) sends him to a far flung system at the edge of Adamant space and close to the Richelieu systems, to deal with what could be an invasion. As usual, the author gives us great detail with the locations, people and battles.
This is another very good book in the House Adamant series. I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review
Advances the Adamant story quite well. We're now following Nikola rather than Lorraine so, naturally, the tone is different. Nikola is undergoing professional /political changes that effect him.
Reading the previous 4 books isn't completely necessary, but would help new readers to understand why/how the impact
