These were the twin threats confronting the seamen on the North Atlantic convoys: fire from the Luftwaffe's bombs, and from the torpedoes of the lurking U-Boats: ice in the deadly cold waters that could kill in three minutes, five minutes at most.
Between these two hells lived another threat: the slow paralyzing hand of fear.
There's a mix of life ashore and life afloat. Good detail regarding naval matters, above and below the waves and the air components of both wary by nations. A good story well told.
This book was well written and informative. The bravery of our Naval and merchant seamen was astounding, especially since their sacrifice was so poorly regarded by telephone recipients.
