How To Take A Bullet: And Other Survival Poems

Rate this book
With wit and candor, Hollie Hardy writes for her life. “Break up your own little tedium,” these poems remind us. With their riffs on existing literature and recurrent crises, Hardy’s poems show us what can be gained from trying old tricks in new ways. Hardy shows us how to survive a life lived just over the edge. These poems are playful in the way tussling wolf cubs are playful. They are physical and practical. They are recognizing and revealing strength.

'What to Eat, What to Drink, What to Leave for Poison'

i’m related to hollie, my 3rd cousin to be exact. i’ve only met her a few times but those times have been memorable. she is an extraordinary woman and poet, and we were blessed to have her in our home. this book of poems was just as and if not more extodandy than she is. cousin hollie writes what she feels and is not afraid to say it. this book of poems shows you not only how to survive but how she herself survived. she gave me this book and i read it as fast as i could and safe to say my mind is blown. if you put a gun to my head and told me to pick a favorite poem out of this book if say pull the trigger. but if i had to chose a select few favorites i’d chose: “how to perform a tracheotomy”; “how to get a job you’re not qualified for”; “how to survive an earthquake” how to navigate a mine field”; “how to survive a riot”; “how to survive if your parachute fails open”; “how to smoke a cigar.” i could NOT narrow it down. i love this book and i may be unbiased but this is a 5 ⭐️ for me. read it, if you want to learn how to survive.
