Loved the manhwa. But the updates… oh, they move at a snail’s pace, and my patience is nonexistent. So, I went full feral: hunted down the English novel updates on some sketchy site and binged through it like there was no tomorrow. No regrets.
Morally gray and unconventionally compelling leads in stories are my thing. In this novel, both characters were equally unhinged yet fascinating. Their dynamic gives the story insane tension. They’re so vividly written, so unapologetically complex, that even when they’re terrible, I found myself rooting for them.
The training-camp arc of the novel lost me a bit but I simply couldn’t stop reading.

I wanted to write a review now that I've finished reading the entire novel, so I can offer a more complete perspective on the whole story. First of all, this is an 18+ dark romance novel, which means it's not for everyone — and that's worth stating upfront. Personally, I came across a specific chapter in the manhwa adaptation, and that was enough to pull me in and make me want to read the full novel. I ended up finishing the whole thing in just a few days, which says a lot about how addictive it turned out to be.
The first section of the story covers the training arc, and it's probably the most divisive part of the entire novel. The purpose of this arc is to show that the female protagonist, placed in a quasi-military and openly hostile environment, is capable of outperforming her male peers. However, it's also the most challenging section to get through, as it's built on relentless pressure and confrontation — a constant push that many readers may find difficult or off-putting. It's the kind of content that will test your patience before the story truly opens up.
Things begin to improve significantly after that, and the scenes become considerably more compelling. One of the most iconic moments in the novel involves the kidnapping of the NIS director: as part of the contingency plan that's activated, she's given the body of her husband — but the protagonist figures out that the body isn't real. It's a scene that showcases her sharp intelligence brilliantly, and it lands far more powerfully in the novel than in the manhwa, where the internal emotional world of the characters and the weight of their conflicts can be felt much more deeply.
Starting from chapter 107, the scope of the story expands dramatically, and for me personally, this is where the novel truly becomes exceptional. It demands more mental engagement from the reader, as this is the section where all the secrets are finally revealed, alongside the individual arcs of the secondary characters. Those apparent gaps or loose ends from the earlier parts of the story begin to make complete sense here. The childhoods of the main characters are uncovered, the family histories of each are laid out, and the backstories are crafted with care — weaving in themes of power and corruption that feel grounded in the kind of dynamics that actually exist within real large-scale power structures. These themes give the story a darker, more layered texture that elevates it well beyond a typical romance.
Returning to the main plot, this section also brings the protagonist's revenge arc, which is explosive— and one that I imagine will be stunning to see rendered visually when the manhwa reaches it. It's also the most emotionally intense portion of the novel, where the feelings between the leads reach their peak and some of the most memorable lines of the entire story appear. From chapter 107 onward, there is genuinely not a dull moment — no breathing room, just one intense scene after another in the best possible way. If you can get past the training arc, what awaits you is absolutely worth it.

Male lead: Lee Woo-shin
Female lead: Han Seo-ryeong
Very interesting story. I've never read such a book with this kind of plot. I mean like... there are just so many things going on. Fl having worst eyesight, she's not blind tho. The way we got to know that they were always obsessed with each other. I just love when the husband is being jealous whenever Fl thought that the other guy was her husband. The jealous scenes are fire. And for season 2 manhwa, the cover changed. The Illustrator made it looks like it was a love triangle.
Some of the things I just couldn't get it into my head cause some of the plot was too heavy for me to process. Like the politics stuff. The gang... idk.

FINALMENTE ACABEI. Depois de TANTA enrolação nessa história (tem uns arcos insuportáveis) enfim um final feliz. Esses dois são bemm red flags mas foi divertido acompanhar esses doidos KKKKK. Essa história tem MUITAS camadas e o manhwa é só a ponta do iceberg . Uma coisa que me incomodou é que essa história é bem mais política e ação do que romance mas não deixa de ser bom. Precisava desse tanto de capítulo? Definitivamente não. Dito isso tudo eu não aguentava mais esse livro e não encostar nele tão cedo ✨

This was the first time, I had to read a Novel because the Manwha is so interesting! I am not even mad, that I spoiled myself! In matter of fact, I am more excisted what is to come!
Now I am really used to the cliche lovestorys but in this seeing a badass female crazy protaganist -> I LIVE FOR IT!
It was worth reading the novel, recommand reading it!

Keri naaa, both bida are morally gray characters. Good world building and decent plot wrap-up naman sya. Altho may mga linyahan talaga si Wooshin na omg soafer tili ka nalang sa kilig hahaha. Super bet din si FMC kasi she's so badass and hindi pabebe!
