Condemned murderer—and now Gatekeeper—Jora Lanseri is offered a chance at redemption in exchange for her silence. Driven to protect her only remaining brother, she must covertly investigate the dark and hidden forces smuggling the life-giving godfruit to Serocia's enemies and perpetuating the long and bloody war.
Aided by the dolphin Sundancer, Jora discovers more long-forgotten secrets of the Spirit Stones—including the ability to call the Colossus, the ancient warrior statues positioned around Jolver. But the Colossus warriors had fought against the previous Gatekeeper in the war known as The Great Reckoning. Can Jora convince them to join her struggle for peace and justice, or will they side with her nemesis and use her brother against her?

Summary: Interesting premise, with gods that talk but aren't gods, relived and of course the mindstream. Good plot that brings the whole together with simple highly readable narrative. Much much more to be learnt and I look forward to book 3.
Plotline: Simple plot that flows from the complicated premise and one talented novice.
Premise: Interesting premise but it gets a bit far fetched at times in this book. Need to learn about scripture
Writing: Simple, good descriptions, interesting characters, highly readable
Ending: Can the war be ended ... the king (or not king) is dead long live the queen
I love this series it has captured me from the beginning and I continue to be enthralled. The trial and tribulations of Jora continue to be overcome with wisdom and love. The freeing of the first Colossus was thrilling and I could understand them easily. (I thought that they sounded Scottish). No this book is at an end and the next phase is ready to start. Can't wait.
A sequel as good as book 1! Wow, this series really keeps the reader on their toes. There is even more intrigue and more twists in this book than the first! You don't want to miss it!
On the whole series: Story kept me involved and I read the series really fast which I guess means I liked it a lot. So I give the book 2-6 4 stars. In general the review below is still accurate:).
Review from book 1: Quite positive, but still feels like three stars for me. When the story started out it didn’t feel like high quality reading, however once it unfolded, the fantasy was very captivating. So much so, that I am now starting part 2..
I guess it’s not entirely guilty pleasure, but also not amazing literature.
One thing that impressed me most were the details on communication, language and tones interwoven in the fabric of this stories universe.
Anyway, should be a really good book for someone who loves fantasy, and just wants to be taken away for a while by a story.

Call of the Colossus picks up right where the first book in the Mindstream Chronicles, Song of the Sea Spirit, left off. You may need to read the first book to understand what Jora, the main character, is going through though, it jumps right back into the action and so much is going on, there's no time wasted on a recap. This has to be the most unique fantasy series I have read in a long time, the magic the author has created is super unique and there's even more in Call of the Colossus! Jora learns so much more in this book and I really like how her character is developing. If you're looking for a unique fantasy series to read, the Mindstream Chronicles will definitely satisfy that craving.

Though I had to go back and scan the end of the previous book to pick up where Call of the Colossus started, I was grateful the story picked right up and took off without dragging through excessive back story. The development of Jora and the changes she goes through bring me in and the original new magic is a wonderful change from the usual tropes.
