A young woman escapes from a luxury yacht under attack by Chinese pirates in the Mediterranean. American law enforcement agencies collude and conspire to bring about an end to Cerberus, uncaring who gets in their way. Genetically engineered Mark Midway faces deadly assaults by unknown enemies. A military helicopter is brought down over Washington by a Russian missile and General Archimedes Schmidt is in critical condition. Mark meets his sister and travels to London to rescue three more genetically engineered children. He finds romance, but he and his companions are under attack in both the US and England. Mark knows only one response - fight back. Mark needs to survive. All he wants is a normal life.
Parts of this series are so good that it hurts a little that the author, on occasion, takes so little care.
When the central part of your story is clearly fantastical, (genetically engineered supermen), the rest of the story must be dripping in realism. It takes a spoon full of honey to make the medicine go down.
So, when a massively powerful organization loses its leader, can we assume that the directors won't simply turn to their greatest individual detractor and hand him the reins? And leading up to that stupid moment, we watch as Schmidt asks Mark if he would be willing to take over running said organization, despite Schmidt trying and failing to influence this organization in the slightest. What? I see this thing that I want but don't have... I give it to you. Is Hindmarsh trying to sell us the Brooklyn bridge?
And just one other nail in the coffin, if a group contains a mind-reader then can we not also have a spy in their midst.
The impact of genetic engineering, especially when it comes to the military and law enforcement gets even more complicated when corrupt financial manipulators use it as a tool to increase their wealth and political power. Mark Midway has yet to discover why and how he is different from those known as Cerberus, and John Hindmarsh ratchets up the tension and action even more than he did in Mark One and Mark Two. I purchased the box set of Mark One – Mark Four, and have read them all and am waiting for the next one to become available.
I wish I had "Mark Four" to read straight away as the last three books were gripping tales of what might actually be happening at this time!!
It would not take a great leap of faith to believe the contents of Johns books could be real life, he adds so much detail to each character!
If you want age of the seat excitement mixed with all the action you can handle, Do yourselves a favour and buy "Mark one" by John Hindmarsh and I guarantee you have to buy them all!!
If you enjoy reading, get on line, order your book, sit back and wait for a treat to be delivered.
Mark now finds himself with yet more interference in his life than he wants. His rustic hideaway is attacked more than once before he and the other Cerberus children decide to go abroad. Frustratingly they are still plagued by an inability to know who they can trust.
Genetic engineering. Politics. The desire for money, power. Control ones destiny through whatever means. This book tells a great story of the old story of good and evil. An excellent book.
Continuing the story of Mark Midway and the group as they fight enemies at home and abroad both in the government and religious and business moguls. Mark's group grows and new children are discovered, new talents uncovered and a sister that mark never new he had. Attacks on Mark's family and on members individually have them moving around which keeps the story moving. I am now working on #4 in this box set and will have to look to see if it continues.
