OK, where do I start in order to say how much I loved this gender-bent Robin Hood and Snow White retelling? Rowena was fantastic, and I loved seeing her as the leader of all the people hiding in the forest. (I got a better picture of Robin Hood's camp than I've ever gotten before--it was great how M.K. Felix imagined that out.) I thought Prince Alvor was great--although he was the Snow White character, he was very manly. Honestly, that was one of the best things about this retelling: where a lot of gender-bent stories make the heroine too unfeminine and the hero too wimpy, Fairest Hunter gives Rowena the mantle of Robin Hood and Alvor the role of Snow White while emphasizing Rowena's femininity and Alvor's masculinity!
There were a lot of beautiful Christian themes and symbols, especially that of light against darkness. The vibes reminded me of Ella Enchanted and The Princess Bride. The villain was well-written (oh my goodness, I hated him 😅), the side characters were well-rounded, and the food, as usual for one of Madelyn's stories, was mouthwatering! Five stars and my highest recommendation! I can't wait until this book releases next year!!!

Like, honestly…what don’t you get with this book?! Heartfelt and Clean romance. Check. Fairy tale retelling. Check. Magic. Check. Light vs. Dark/ inspiration themes. Check. It’s all the goodness bound in the pages of one book!
And let’s not forget to mention Robin’s merry men! I just loved how it was a band of brothers that you just rooted for the whole time!
M. K. Felix did a fantastic job of creating solid characters that truly felt lived in while weaving two fairy tales in a way I’ve never seen before. Truly impressive and so fun to read! I’m so glad I picked this book up!!

I thoroughly enjoy the fun adventure this story took me on with this clean, magical story. I enjoyed seeing dear fairy tales get a fresh twist, the sweet & swoony romance between endearing characters, the humor, and quick but delightful pacing. Most of all though, I love that it’s light and love that wins the battle in the end, and that happiness prevails! I should also note that the dear paperback copy is filled also with such delightful illustrations at the beginning of each chapter which is an added bonus to the beauty of this book treasure. I look forward to more to come in this series and by this delightful author who writes stories with such heart! Fairest Hunter, It is worth the read!📚💯

3 stars...This book was funny and overall enjoyable, but I feel like the story started in the middle and wasn't as well written as I'd like. Weirdly enough though, I actually enjoyed the rather modern way the characters spoke...it was really funnny

I knew from page one that I would enjoy this one! It was intriguing and unique and romantic. This story was such a fresh twist on the Robin Hood and Snow White fairytales. I loved seeing the similarities while also seeing the unique differences. And the world building was done very well.
Alvor and Rowena were fun! I loved watching their romance unfold. The romance and banter was well written and I enjoyed how the conflict is coming together. They had this sweet romance and instant understanding of each other. Their childhood friendship was a great foundation for this plot and I loved how all the mystery came together in the end.
Seeing some familiar fairytale characters was fun and I love how the author really developed some unique characters to fit those roles. This was a high stakes fantasy with a wonderful mash up of fairytale retellings, I truly loved it! The suspense and mystery was great and the plot was fast-paced. Definitely excited for the second book in the series!

The was such a clever twist on the story of Robin Hood and Snow White! I loved the characters and the banter between them. I loved the magic system and how it was tied to good versus evil. I loved how the characters believed in a higher being and the world the characters resided in. This was such a fun story that kept me up late many a night. I would definitely read this again and look forward to more from this author.

Loved this book! I thought the romance was great and the characters had lovely chemistry! Definitely worth the read and hope to find more of her books! I won a paperback copy of Fairest Hunter by MK Felix for this month's Fairytale Summer. It was very exciting because I wasn't expecting to win anything. I don't usually read physical books, but this one was beautiful with lots of black and white character artwork between chapters. This book is a gender-bent retelling of "Snow White" and Robin Hood. I have to give the author props for creativity. Not only did she combine two unlikely stories, but by gender-bending both protagonists, she's created a work of fiction that is wholly unique to the fairy tale retelling genre.
In Fairest Hunter, Lady Rowena takes on the role of both Robin Hood and the Huntsman from "Snow White," two characters that are typically portrayed as male. She is hired to assassinate Prince Alvor, one of her dearest childhood friends. The king believes that Rowena will assassinate anyone he asks her to without question, thanks to the mind-controlling powers of his magic mirror, but Rowena has light magic of her own that she uses in secret to protect the people of the kingdom. Her band of merry men, who are named after the traditional characters from Robin Hood lore, help her to fight against the king's tyranny and keep the prince safely in hiding while taking on dual roles as the seven dwarfs.
Ordinarily, I'm not a huge fan of hardboiled heroines, but Rowena won me over with her unwavering sense of justice. She takes full advantage of her role as the king's assassin by safely hiding away his victims and making him believe that they are dead so he won't try to find them. Her hidden feminine side comes out later in the book when she infiltrates a ball. She was such a unique and multifaceted character that she sometimes overshadowed the more passive Prince Alvor, who had all the traits of a traditional Snow White. The dual-POV format helped readers get to know him even though Rowena's actions progressed more of the story.
MK Felix created a rich and believable world with a soft magic system peppered throughout the book. Rowena's light magic plays a crucial role in allowing her to protect her kingdom against the tyrannical king, and the king's wicked magic renders Prince Alvor powerless to stop him. The forests where the merry men roam feel like a real place and give off Renaissance Faire vibes. The concept of combining Robin Hood with "Snow White" is fresh and original. It works well in this context by giving so many characters dual roles from both stories. Maid Marian is present as well, but she ends up with a different love interest than in the legends.
Fairest Hunter is a thrilling journey through familiar tales presented in an original way. It has a strong modern heroine with an unerring sense of justice and an unlikely prince who takes on a more submissive role than commonly seen in stories like this. The artwork in the physical copy is stunning and helps to enhance the friends-to-lovers romance throughout. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a unique twist on classic stories with a strong sense of adventure.

Fairest Hunter is an incredible gender-bent Robin Hood and Snow White retelling with magic, an evil king, and rebellion!
This book was so much fun and I loved it! I can’t believe it has taken me this long to read this book. This story is right up my alley and has everything I love in a book.
The characters were amazing! I loved Rowena so much. She was a wonderful character, and I loved the different sides of her. She was a very dynamic character, which I enjoyed. She was a court lady, a huntress, and a leader to a band of rebels. She was very kind and caring, and I loved how much she wanted to protect those around her.
I liked Alvor, as well. He had an interesting storyline, and I loved how the author wrote him breaking away from his curse. I loved this storyline, and him realizing what his people needed from him and the struggles they had been facing. He also had to deal with the reality that his father was not a great person, which lead to some emotional scenes.
The romance between Alvor and Rowena was adorable, though a little rushed. They were childhood friends, which is one of my favorite tropes, but I don’t think enough time was spent on exploring them as friends before we jumped into a relationship. I still really enjoyed their relationship, and they are absolutely adorable together, but a little more time on the base of their romance could have made it even better.
The magic was wonderful! I love a strong magical system, and this world has one. This is the first book in the series, so you can tell that things are still being set up, but it is wonderful. I love the lore behind the magic, and the way the magic manifests is really cool.
I have been seeing more and more Robin Hood retellings but haven’t read many of them. I really enjoyed the combined Robin Hood and Snow White retelling. It was well done, and I love how the author melded the different elements together. I also love how the roles were reversed! The Merry Men were really interesting, and I loved the unique characters, especially Marius!
Lady Marian and William were wonderful side characters! I loved their parts in the story and cannot wait to see more of them in the next book!

Fairest Hunter by M.K. Felix — ⭐⭐⭐
A fun gender-swapped mashup of Robin Hood and Snow White that hooked me as a page-turner from the start. The author does a lovely job weaving elements of both fairytales together, with a satisfying good-vs-evil, light-vs-darkness core.
What worked: The overall vibe, the creative blending of two beloved tales, and the tension between Alvo and Rowena in the forest (that magic-connection moment! ✨). If you love fairytale retellings and want a cozy escape, this delivers.
What I’d tweak:
• Backstory, please! We drop into the story mid-action with no context for the King, the mirror, Marina, or the Merry Men. A prologue (the king acquiring the mirror? Rowena’s mother’s carriage accident?) would’ve grounded everything.
• The 5-year gap between Rowena and Alvo felt arbitrary for two “best friends” — needed more weight.
• Rushed romance. After five years apart, their reconnection deserved a slower rebuild.
• The ending sprints. Trapping Alvo in the mirror came out of nowhere, the “kick to the shin” takedown of the king felt anticlimactic, and Rowena’s magical sleep begged for a true love’s kiss moment that never came. So much wasted Snow White potential!
• The teased Queen’s Games never happened 😩
Bottom line: A solid 3-star fairytale escape — perfect if you want a happily-ever-after with a fresh spin. With some tightening and more on-the-nose fairytale beats, this could’ve been a 4+. Worth the read if your heart lives for retellings! 🏹🍎

Whimsical and delightful are just two of the words I would use to describe Fairest Hunter by MK Felix. This is one of those books I stumbled upon and ended up pleasantly surprised when I fell into its immersive pages. The narrative hooked me with an inventive fairy tale retelling, casting Rowena in the role of Robin Hood and Alvor as a Snow White-inspired character.
The present tense and well-paced prose made this a swift and engrossing experience. I savored how the romantic history—youthful crushes—between the main characters amplified the tension inherent in the love story. The plot thickened with the palpable danger posed by a wicked king and the unsettling enigma of a mysterious curse.
And beyond the main players, the side characters provided engaging antics with their clever banter and deep brotherly bond. The entire reading experience was a delightful puzzle, not falling into a predictable pattern as retellings are prone to do. With an ending that satisfied in a fairy-tale kind of way, I was sad and happy to finish the book. Sad it was over, happy there is another one coming. This was a first for me by this author, but it won’t be the last. Highly recommend if you enjoy fairy tales, fantasy, and a dash of mystery.

A little heavy on the romance for my taste—but that’s what it’s marketed as, so I lived with it. I’ll note it’s pure and chaste romance, with no need for doors to be closed (well, at least the primary romance…the door might be firmly shut on another).
So it’s a gender-swapped Robin Hood—who also happens to be the King’s Huntsman. So, instead of taking the (male) Snow White figure and leaving him with some dwarves, he’s left with six merry men. These men rob from the rich, give to the poor, while looking for an opportunity to take out the Evil King (who turns out to be using a bespelled mirror to work his magic).
It’s a fun story, just deep enough to justify—fast acting enough that you don’t care. I quite enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading further in the series.

A simple yet satisfying spin to Robin Hood and Snow White. While I usually enjoy a more complex adventure/romance novel this wasn't too bad. The characters are easy to understand and likeable.
Rowena and her Merry Men were cool, especially when I found out their names. The integration of Maid Marian sets up the plot for the next book.
The story doesn't stall very much, in fact it has a faster pace than I would have liked at times. This is problematic sometimes because there's little time left for story and character development. I wish there was more chemistry between the characters, especially the love interests, and maybe a little more show and less tell. It was a bit dry in spots, for example the characters could use more depth of character.
The next two instalments have the potential to be better because this book is a pretty good foundation. If you're looking for a quick and entertaining read without spice and a straight forward plot you'll enjoy this book.

In which Robin takes on an evil king to save a kingdom
I enjoyed this gender swapped mashup of Snow White and Robin Hood. It was very clean, had engaging characters, and a sweet romance.

Fairest Hunter is a fun mashup of Snow White and Robin Hood, but with a twist I absolutely loved: Robin Hood is actually the heroine, and the prince is the one who needs rescuing. I thought that role reversal made the story feel fresh without losing the charm of the original fairy tales.
I also enjoyed all the little nods to both stories. It was fun recognizing familiar characters and seeing how M.K. Felix reimagined them to fit this world. The supporting cast added a lot of personality, and they were honestly some of my favorite parts of the book.
The plot itself didn’t completely wow me or surprise me, but I was never bored either. It was an easy, entertaining read with lots of adventure, romance, and humor.
Overall, this was a cute fairy tale retelling that put a creative spin on two classic stories. If you’re looking for a lighthearted fantasy with a capable heroine, a handsome prince, and plenty of familiar fairy tale references, I think this one is worth picking up.

Such a fun retelling of Snow White and Robin Hood with Prince Alvor taking the place of Snow White and Rowena as Robin. The retelling is very cleverly done with both stories intertwining throughout the book. There were a couple phrases I found a bit too modern for a fantasy world at the beginning but other than that I loved it! Very muxh enjoyed the found family vibes and the battle between light and darkness. Would definitely recommend and I'm excited for the author to continue the series!

Wow! That was so good! This is a mashup gender swap retelling between Snow White and Robin Hood and it worked perfectly! This is M. K. Felix’s debut novel and it is incredible! It reminded me a little bit of Aurora Belle’s fairytale retelling and I think that’s another why I really enjoyed it. The cover is gorgeous! Rowena was awesome! I loved her! She was the perfect Robin Hood! Alvor had to grow on me. He seemed pretty weak at the beginning. But as he grew, I grew to love him too! Rowena and Alvor’s love story is so sweet and I enjoyed every second! The other characters were sweet as well and I really liked getting to know them! The magic system was very interesting and unlike any that I’ve read before. This story was unique and such a fun twist! I definitely recommend and can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

Fairest Hunter is a light, sweet, playful, and gripping read from secret identities to unknown magic to clean romance and deep friendships this book has it all. The mashup of a gender swapped Robin Hood and Snow White was brilliant. I loved the ways they both supported each other on multiple levels from leadership to past hurts to practical dilemmas and playful banter. This is a great midweek read as the chapters are short yet meaningful with clever titles. The humor and banter are also on point. The violence is minimal and not gory. The romance is clean no spice and there is no swearing which makes it great for younger and older readers alike. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and am excited to start the next one in the series.

This was such a fun and unique fairy tale retelling that I enjoyed the whole way through! Combining and reimagining the stories of Snow White and Robin Hood, the result was an exciting and hopeful tale of bravery and justice in the face of evil and a childhood friends to lovers sweet romance (kisses-only) that had me laughing and sighing.
The writing was excellent, and I enjoyed the banter and heartfelt dialogue between characters. There were also a few surprising twist and exciting moments that I wasn’t expecting, which made the story even better.
If you like books with a bit of hidden identities, found family type friendships, strong female characters, and where light overcomes darkness, then I highly recommend this book!

I loved this mashup of Robin Hood and Snow White! Rowena, as a huntress, was so intriguing to me. She used her light magic to find injured animals, and even though I’m a hunter and hunting doesn’t bother me, I appreciated her perspective. Alvor made a great Snow White, and I liked how the story started with him “waking up” from the curse. It made me happy that the two had been childhood friends and had fallen for each other long before the story. I liked seeing Rowena as Robin, and how the merry men took in Alvor and helped him settle. The light magic was so cool, and I just loved everything about this story! I can’t wait to read Lady Scarlett next.

This is a such a fun Robin Hood fairytale re-telling! The prince doesn’t save the FMC - she saves herself! A clean fairytale romance that’s written so well you won’t miss it not having any 🌶️ I loved the dual POV of Robin Hood (Rowena) and Prince Lavor!

Fairest Hunter is a beautiful fairytale retelling! M.K. Felix takes the two stories and mixes them with her own wonderful twists. Huntress Rowena is strong while still being kind and sensitive. Prince Alvor is brave while also coming to terms with his past and figuring out his place. Together they must defeat the curse that is corrupting their kingdom. All the while hiding plenty of Easter eggs and twists to keep you on the edge of your seat. All in all, a truly wonderful fairytale!

Two stars for the concept and creativity with merging two classic stories. This book was really not for me though. The dialogue was cringe and I felt actually sick at some points because it was just unrealistic insta love or over the top reactions that didn’t make sense for these one dimensional characters. for instance when our girl was fanning herself bc she was hot and the prince’s inner dialogue was like “I wanted to rip that fan out of her hands and throw it on the ground because it was blocking the view of her beautiful face”. I’m sorry but I just did not enjoy this read :(

I absolutely loved this book! I love Robin Hood stories, and this one has a great twist on it, adding the story of Snow White and gender swapping the characters. Robin Hood is the King’s Huntress Rowena, and Prince Alvor is Snow White. I loved how M.K. Felix combined the well-known parts of both stories to create something new. I also enjoyed the Christian element of light battling the dark. I’m exited to read more of this series!

3.5 stars, really. It's a mash-up retelling of Snow White and Robin Hood, which isn't a combo I've come across before (surprisingly, since they actually fit quite well together) and which definitely caught my attention for that alone (I love both that fairy tale and that legend). Some moments/resolutions/speeches felt a little too perfect (the word "twee" keeps coming to mind, even though I am not, in fact, British), but it was a nice quick afternoon read!

DNF. I really wanted to love this story. It's hard to find a clean romantasy, and I appreciate that effort here so much. I think the plot and setting hold a lot if promise. But I could not get past the writing. It felt too forced, too repetitive, like the author was trying too hard to remind us of certain elements. The characters also felt too self-aware to me, to the point that it wasn't believable. With better editing, I'd be willing to try this author again, but as is, it's just not great.
