Books of the Gardener #3

Boone: The Sanctified

Rate this book
Boone Tackett has been sanctified. An eerie symbol has replaced the symbol of the leader on his clothing, a false prophet has convinced everyone that he is a traitor, and to add to all of the other changes in his life, his dad has taken a job in another state. When Boone is confronted by a group of wolves living in his world, he learns that the place he once loved has been turned upside down. With a new church and a group of uniquely gifted friends by his side, Boone will have to decide if returning to the garden to save his family from servitude is worth the possibility of destroying everything he once loved.

Lauren H. Brandenburg is a mentor, speaker, and author who happily blurs the lines between traditional genres in both middle-grade and cozy women's fiction. Her fourth book in The Books of the Gardener series, Orlo: The Created, was a finalist for the Selah Award middle-grade novel of the year. The Death of Mungo Blackwell, a humorous family fiction (Lion Hudson publishing) was longlisted for the People's Book Prize in the United Kingdom and won the ACFW award for contemporary fiction. Lauren is a former junior high and high school English teacher who stepped away from her profession to raise and homeschool her two children. She currently lives with her husband, Jamie, and their children in a lovely little town just south of Nashville, Tennessee where they eat and laugh a lot. www.LaurenHBrandenburg.com

This has been my favorite of the series so far. Unexpected twists. Thoughtful analogies. Loved the unfolding of the previous two this presented.

I've only ever read one other series that was broken up this way (9 books with each arc covering 3 books). I'm curious what the other two sets in this 9-book series bring.

Lauren Brandenburg wrote a decent story, but it is confusing in multiple places. There are grammar mistakes. It is self-published and left a bad taste in my mouth for people who self-publish. Couldn't Brandenburg have someone who could proofread it? Are editors too much money? I heard Brandenburg teach on creative writing at a convention and trusted that the book would be good, so I was disappointed. I enjoyed her idea of wolves out to get you and a garden where everyone works together. I love the story, but I can't get past the grammar mistakes and the confusion.

Great read, good for the whole family. Boone's story continues. He and the others have been asked to return to the garden at Christmas time to celebrate the old gardener retiring and a new gardener taking over. Many things change and Boone has a new role. He needs to figure out what he has to do.

What a great book. We loved reading it. We cannot wait until the next three book set comes out! Mrs. Brandenburg writes so that we can enjoy what we are reading and have a lesson about God and His love for us. We got copies of the book for Christmas.
