I would never have read this story if I knew it had cheating.

SPOILERS BELOW
Elia the hero and Caroline the heroine have an arranged marriage. Elia asked Caroline to marry him in part, because he was attracted to her and that is part of the reason that she accepted as well. During the short engagement period they make out and the Elia goes down on Caroline. After getting physical with the heroine the scene opens with the hero having a naked woman Siena kneeing at his feet. Apparently she is one of his steady screws. Siena is a stripper who is also a prostitute. Siena is just ready to give him a blow job when the hero's father walks in on them. Hero is really sexually excited and states that he wants to have sex with Siena again even though his dad and other people in the room.

Elia thinks "The temptation to take Siena again, just to spite him (the father) is heavy. Unforgettably I've already had her twice this evening; once, bent over the desk, legs spread has wide as they could to. I pummeled her little ass over and over again until she screamed out in agony, the sound making me come harder than usual." Wow what a prince.

Then they get married but that doesn't stop Elia from cheating on Caroline again. Elia thinks how much he loves Caroline and then gets a blow job from Siena again. True love is so romantic. Caroline, not to be left out makes out with her former lover, who I cannot remember his name. While they are making out she was thinking how she wasn't enjoying it but just wanted to be held. Makes total sense. Her former lover, who she was last with 1 year prior, is her cousin but apparently not blood related. When Caroline made out with her cousin she had already heard how Elia was having sex with Siena and it was not long after Elie received his most recent bj from Siena that Caroline and her cousin make out. Caroline does nothing further with her former lover and unlike Elia she is not a hoe. She has only had two lovers that she choose, her cousin and Elia. Elia on the other hand has a long history of having sex with women who work at his club. Yes, he owns a strip club where the strippers also hook when they want to make extra money. Apparently having sex with Elia is something that have to do for free though.

I love jealous and possessive heroes but sadly Elia is not. He walks on Caroline and her former lover making out. The former lover is one of Elia's men. While it is true that Elia beats her former lover, he doesn't make him stay away from her. Elia thinks it seems fair that Caroline was making out with her cousin given that Elia was just given a blow job by Siena. How magnanimous of Elia.

Elia and Caroline spend too much of the story blowing hot and cold with each other and avoiding spending time together. Right after they get married Elia stayed a way for 1 week, spending all of this time on mob business or at his club.

Sadly there was no chemistry between Elia and Caroline. It seems to take them forever to fully do the deed. A lot of stopping and starting and going down on the heroine. Also being inside of her but not coming much. When they finally do it all the way, it is lacking.

This story includes flashbacks of abuse.

New author for me. And I was excited for this book with all the teasing. Pretty longish and okay writing..

It took me awhile to write the review because I was kinda disappointed in the book. the writing was great but this is a me thing I hate op drama and this had that and cheating. Even if Elia and Caroline married eachother to help one another. Its still cheating (they both have feelings for one another) what they both did. And it brought my rating down so much. Because nope.
Elia almost got a bj but he didn't (but he mentioned he slept with ow twice then I almost dnf when I saw him get a bj after he married Caroline) and then he did get one later on. And then I sighed when Caroline kinda made out with her cousin by marriage. Yeah :(

Now if I delete that from my mind the story was pretty good. I liked Caroline the things she does for her younger sister and how she knew what buttons to push for Elia but I did wanna shake her with all the push/pull she did. As for Elia he good i did dislike some of the things he did..but he did grow from beginning. Idk if ill continue with the series. If the next couple cheats like this im out... We can have dark romance without cheating.. 😪 in my opinion. But like I said this is a me thing.

Low angst, ow/om drama, cheating (he had a worker give him a bj and her cousin by marriage kissed her and dryed hump her), Drama, slight secondary character, sexy times, no virgins (both mentioned their past)

2.5⭐

This was the "touch her and i'll stuff a bullet in your head" book.
This SCREAMS "who hurt you? do i need to kill someone?"

Before i start
the book contains light cheating, knife play and also discussions on abuse and grooming

“He’s auctioning his daughter off, or something. Paying off his debts or collecting on campaign promises. I don’t know. This is why we don’t get involved in fucking politics; they’ll sell you anything if it keeps them in power.”

The said daughter being CAROLINE HARRISON
Caroline Harrison has always been a pawn to her father's games.
Usually put out as a collateral for the debts he stays drowning in.
Caroline is the older sister that always protected her little sister Juliet from getting into the same system as she did.
Which means more and more shit for her.

Menthol flavors explode in my mouth as my lungs fill with smoke; I breathe out slowly, trying to look casual.
Elia cocks his head, studying me.
“Those things kill people, you know.”
“I hear you kill people, too. What do you think will get me first?”

ELIA MONTALTO
Elia is the the king of king's trace.
Very powerful with A LOT of body counts on his head.
Who decides to marry Caroline on the fucking spot after eating her out at the party
(idk how that..... i mean but it happened)

"You haven’t asked me anything.”
“Nor do I want to. I’m not interested in getting to know you. If you want to help distract me from this god-awful party, be my guest. It’s the least you can do after hijacking my cigarette. If not, kindly leave me to sulk alone.”
Don’t leave. Please, don’t leave.
“Gesù Cristo. You’ve got quite the fucking mouth, mio amore.”

KEEPING THE WHOLE BOOK ASIDE
HIM CALLING HER MIO AMORE WAS *SHUDDERS*

My personal favorite part of the whole book was Elia walking in on Caroline and Luca (her half-cousin) making out with his hand down her pants.
My man really said "well. well. well. isn't this fucking cozy?" and then proceeded to fuck Caroline in front of Luca.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Okay though.
let's keep it short and simple.
Caroline marries Elia for the soul purpose of getting some money and revenge on her father.
The revenge being that she would kill all the men that have ever wronged her one by one.
Elia catches up to that and tries to protect her but she shuts herself out.

“And my father?”
“That fucker won’t even be allowed to look at you if you don’t want him to.”
“I don’t.”
“Done.”

“If you keep talking about her like that, I swear on my mother’s grave that I will gut you, right here in front of your family. And I’ll let the Mrs. mop up your fucking blood afterward.”

awh cute.

"I'm pregnant"
"Are you serious?” He hovers above me, eyes bright and hopeful. I swallow, nodding, unable to speak. “How? We haven’t—”
“That first time took, I guess.”
“Fuck, yeah. You’re stuck with me now, baby.”

sooooooooooooo after deciding that she indeed wants to keep the baby and is in love with Elia.
Caroline lets him take the lead.
He kills two men off her list of guys that Caroline's father let touch Caroline when she was 17.
Next he kills is Dominic Harrison (Caroline's father)

The plot around the whole mafia and marriage of convenience is not the most unique BUT nonetheless i cannot say it was bad.
Elia and Caroline kinda had VERY little tension before getting married because they got married by the first 40 or something pages.
Elio saying Caroline intrigues her very much and then letting a random girl suck him off was like...... boi what??
It got better gradually but i think on a personal opinion that i loved the other two books better than this one.
Also the way i saw Kal here and god the fucking potential that man had as a character but his own book ruined him for me i'm sorry

"When does it stop hurting?” I murmur into his suit, letting a few tears fall. Why do I feel so deflated?
"It doesn’t. We just learn to cover the bad stuff with better memories.
And you and I are going to make the the best goddamn memories”

Just as satisfying this time

I keep rereading this book because I love Caroline and Elia. There’s something so mature about them. I’ve read several dark romances, mafia included, and many feel unrealistic, but this book doesn’t. I think it’s because Sav R. Miller knows when to let the reader fill in the blanks. Details about the mafia can not only bog down the plot but also the relationship.

Caroline (FMC) was mysterious and strong, totally independent. I LOVED how she used subtle manipulation to get what she needed. You just don’t see that often!

Elia (MMC) was such a sucker for Caroline right from the start. That’s how I love my MMCs lol. However, I do have to mention safety here: there is OW/OM scenes on page after the MCs are together. It’s not too bad and it’s before real emotion develops between them. Anyways, Elia would do anything for his wife, his world. Reading his POVs was everything 🥺.

I wanted to see more of the relationship development between Elia and Caroline and Caroline and Juliet. I could tell it’s there but I just wanted that little extra something. I also wanted some more scenes of revenge from Caroline. My girl deserved it 😏.

The Bonus Epilogue was SO GOOD. Holy smokes, it was so them and really wrapped up the story. Ugh. This was just super entertaining. ☺️

"She may look pure, but there's dirt on her soul--a skeleton handcuffed to her wrist, forced to drag it around for as long as she can remember."

I love mafia romances, and it's very difficult to find one that hits all of my sweet spots. This one DELIVERED.

A possessive, alpha antihero that's powerful, feared but sensitive and sweet to his woman? CHECK.

Character development that shows personal growth and ties into the plot without being cliche and unrealistic? CHECK.

Poetic prose that makes me wish I wrote it myself? CHECK.

And the sex scenes, y'all. THE SEX SCENES.

Sav R. Miller's writing style is nothing short of beautiful and makes you feel the emotion of the characters like it's happening to you.

This is easily the best book I've read this year, and one of the best mafia romances I've ever read.

I am salivating for the next book in this series.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

This book is nonstop nonsense with 99 problems, and a bitch is most certainly one of them.

🔴 Premise: Politician in bed with mafia has daughter he’s parading around to sell to highest bidder.

⚫️Problem: Ah, she’s 25-26 yo 👀. This “parading” has been going in for months… just how long does it take to sell someone?

🔴Premise: MMC, the mafia boss of this “small town,” sees her at a birthday party being paraded about. decides to “help” her by first just randomly walking up to her eating her out… then he proposes he be the one to marry her. Why? She’s hot, distressed, reminds him of his dead mom, and her top bidder is apparently his greatest rival. She says yes - partly because he’s hot, lesser evil, and unknown top secret reason.

⚫️Problem: Top secret drags on for-fucking-ever. It’s the cloak and dagger of using wording suspense (it, that, them, etc) verses saying what exactly the obscure words mean. I hate suspense dished that way. By the end, the top secret shit is as simple as she was using marrying the MMC to get revenge on daddy - how, why???? Don’t hold your breath for answers because they don’t exist. It’s all hyperbole nonsense anyway because any normal mofo would have just asked the smitten kitten MMC to kill daddy. Actually, the entire book is BS because she could’ve poisoned his ass or done a million other things that would have mooted this entire book before it ever started.

⚫️ Problem: The MMC’s “biggest rival” is someone he has met ONCE. Ah, okay.

⚫️ Problem: This marriage agreement comes w/ a daddy payout of “a few million,” prenup for 6 mos worth of marriage, and contract to protect the FMC’s sister. Wtf kinda shit is that? If I have to explain why none of that makes a lick of sense, then please do read this book.

🔴 Premise: The FMC is a 25-26 yo woman (we deduct that by her being 15-16 when daddy started abusing her, and it’s now 10 years later.) 10 years of “grooming her,” allowing daddy’s political buddies to abuse her, making her fuck one of his political friends, etc etc. She’s traumatized, out for revenge. Mommy and sissy didn’t believe her. We are TOLD all of these details in scraps and slices throughout the book, and we are told that the reason she stayed is to protect her sister from such horrors.

⚫️ Problem: She’s an educated adult and could have left with her sister, which would have mooted the book.

⚫️ Problem: The sister is a slut, being described as having slept with everyone in town. So, I’m supposed to believe daddy is selling one sister and letting the other give it away for free to everyone? Oceanfront property in Arizona.

⚫️ Problem : FMC says she’s been sexually traumatized for 10 years. She’s never given nor received oral sex. She was forced to have sex with her daddy’s political buddy once at 17. A year prior to the book’s current time, she willingly f’d her step-cousin. Rape by coercion is horrible, but I’m just not seeing how ^ the above adds up to 10 years of abuse and sexual grooming? The author puts incest in the air as “grooming,” but then gives a detailed sexual history to make that an impossibility. So, how the hell has she been “groomed” for sex trade?

🔴Premise: FMC is using the MMC for some secret agenda in her revenge/freedom.

⚫️Problem: You never get an answer as to her original plan. She’s happy he kills one, and she’s pissed he killed the other. Made no sense. All she had to do is ask, and he would have burned the world down. So, all the theatrics, such as the club scene - just nonsense. Hot and cold act - more nonsense - no one would act that way if they wanted someone to do something, and no one would be mind reader enough to read through the shit. Not a single action aligned with any of the various goals she could have had. I mean she’s sitting around baking all day, being a bitch to the MMC, and telling him nothing about nothing…. So how does that jump to her using him to get her revenge?

🔴 Premise: He gets oral from a club ho. She almost fucks her ex-lover, step-cousin, who is also one of the MMC’s mafia men, in the MMCs house.

⚫️ Problem: This is a loveless marriage of convenience, and the MCs have only had the oral thing so far out of lust. No commitment or expectations here. So, I don’t call this “cheating.” My problem is the way he treats the club ho. He had his face in the FMC’s puss five minutes after meeting her…. So wtf is she so special but the club ho is nothingness for being too f’ing easy? I just don’t like BS like that. Secondly, even if he gets angry eventually, talking about the FMC with the club ho is just nasty.

⚫️ Problem: Uh, after the MMC walks in on the almost fuck between his wife and mafia man/her step-cousin, he beats him to a pulp and fucks her beside him. It could have been hot if not for the fact that the dude keeps working for him, keeps talking to the FMC, and is in multiple parts of the story as if that shit just never f’ing happened. 🤯 weird AF.

🔴 Premise: A reporter sticks a hand up, and he points to them, granting questions. “How will you combat the presence of organized crime in King’s Trace? And what will you do to end the drug trade? The Montaltos won’t go down easily.”

⚫️ Problem: Small town. Political candidates daughter marries mobster. <—- All of the above are at a political function where reporter asks about the mobsters like they aren’t in the f’ing room lol, and as if the first question wouldn’t be about said daughter marrying the f’ing guy? Nonsense. Hell, they had paparazzi taking pictures of them all over the place, but there are “gasps” amongst the reporters and attendees when it’s mentioned at this party over two months after they’re married lol.

🔴 Premise: MMC kills a politician in the middle of his small town strip club after having a public altercation with him seconds before… the damn club shutdown and watched in a circle as he pulls the gun on him. Cleared. Killed. What happens from this? Nothing. MMC isn’t even questioned by the cops, and the news reports it as a

⚫️Problem: MMC kills a politician and it’s like he swatted a fly. Hard to believe, but this happens again at the end of the book … mofo is blasted in public by the MMC who, despite the round table of reporters, just drags the host of the party off to torture and kill. Mmkay.

🔴 Premise: MMC’s name is Elia

⚫️ Problem: I stumbled reading it throughout because my mind kept envisioning a girl.

🔴Premise: Any moment of substance convo.

⚫️ Problem: The MMC is talking about his trauma surrounding his dead mom, and the FMC is inner monologuing how hot and fuckable he is. Throughout, any serious convo is set to the FMC thinking about fucking. It’s weird. It takes the emotional connection out of the scenes. It makes me want to punch her in the puss and boots.

🔴 Premise: God knows, a little drinking problem would’ve helped me. And as long as she isn’t blacking out, who is she really hurting?

⚫️ Problem: I’ve read countless books with f’rs drinking like fish, but call a ♠️ a ♠️. Don’t whitewash topics like alcoholics don’t hurt themselves and everyone around them.

🔴 Premise: He is the mob boss.

⚫️Problem: He doesn’t act, speak, think like a mob boss.

🔴Premise: Revenge.

⚫️Problem: Most stupid AF (non existing) plan to get revenge.

🔴Premise: Antihero label.

⚫️ Problem: There isn’t an antihero ~ from day one, he is trying to help her. He doesn’t force anything, is patient, kind, and caring, even when she doesn’t deserve a thing from him because she’s nothing but a bitch to him until the final 10% lol. Maybe, this should have been anti-heroine?!

🔴Premise: Blood and guts ending.

⚫️ Problem: I seriously almost laughed. I’ve never felt a scene so staged for OTT melodramatic shock. It felt 💯 forced.

❌ Hyperbole, theatric, cloak and dagger confusion, much ado, nonsensical, Swiss cheese writing, plot points, and character development. Needed a developmental editor!!!!

❤️The grammatical editing was surprisingly decent.

❤️ Some great lines got lost in the 🔀 of stupid… The fire in my balls agrees, even if the pinch in my heart says otherwise.

❤️The three finger taps.

💟How f’ing determined the MMC was, albeit idiotic, was to be her knight in bloody armor.

❤️The knife-play scene. Erotically, I’m not a fan, but it was deeper here - a symbology of trust, and I could understand that given the FMC’s character profile of abuse. It would have been more profound had the reader ever learned what the 10-year abuse actually entailed.

OVERALL

Despite the crumbs of good within, the big picture and details of both plot and characters simply weren’t believable. It was one massive plot hole 🕳 from beginning to end. I like to call this the moldy cheese block… you may can slice a sliver here and there that’s edible, but you won’t be making that casserole with the shit. 1.5 stars.

Thank you to the author for sending me a review copy in exchange for an honest review!

This mafia romance did a good job. The slow-burn, the sexiness, the steamy factor—wow.

Elia is the anti-hero alpha male who is also possessive and sensitive. Caroline is also a bad-ass woman—brave, fierce, confident, name it. She would always fight for herself and the people she loves no matter what. My kind of woman! 💪🏼

This was my first time reading a mafia romance and i did enjoy it especially the character growth. Not all books have that, to be honest. Also, there were some parts that made me cringe in a bad way, and i did not like those parts. (No spoilers) 😂

Anyway, give this a try if you’re into dark, mafia romance!

Elia and Caroline.

Gahhh! They were all the best things. Fire and fury, tenderness and passion. Intensity. And surprisingly vulnerable. With more than a sprinkle of crazy tossed on top that had me feeling like I’d just found my new favorite Netflix show. Because I swear, I saw this whole thing play out in my head like it was a tv show. I cringed, I tensed, I swooned, I had to collect my breath. I think at one point my mouth fell open. Like, literally, fell open.

It was so good. And pair that with the smoothness of this author’s writing? Five stars, easy.

This is only the second mafia romance I’ve ever read. (I know, what is wrong with me?) But really, if you’re only going to read a handful of them, then you’re not missing out if this is one of them.

Two characters, one dark and one broken, locked in on their goals, determined to tear the world down. All while attempting to ignore their growing feelings for each other.

And I just...enjoyed the freaking sh*t out of it.

My favorite quote, and one I feel encompasses the vibe of this story:

“I can feel the resistance thinning, can sense the moment the band bundling his control starts to snap. His hands slide down my jaw, one slipping over my shoulder and skidding along my spine, the other locking around my throat, barely robbing me of air.

“Just the way I like it.

“The way that makes me forget anyone else ever hurt me.”

Enough said.

Except that I’m still not done. 🤣

The epilogue intro for the next two characters?! Honestly, I am equal parts terrified and intrigued. And I cannot wait to read it!

Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC copy to read and review early! <3

If you like mafia romances, crazy amounts of steam, and an arranged marriage trope- this book is for you! Elia pursues and marries Caroline in a quest to save her from her domineering father who was planning to marry her off to the highest bidder. Elia was definitely an anti hero- a violent man with a hero complex when it came to Caroline. And Caroline was no wilting flower- she was rising up to escape her circumstances in her awful family. The chemistry between these two was smoking even while they were dancing around their feelings and the family dynamics added complications to their story. If you are in the mood for a dark mafia romance, make sure to pick this book up! Will definitely be reading more from this author!

HOLY CRACK. That is what is in this book - crack. Because man oh man was I hooked from the very beginning! First off, the writing style is absolutely beautiful. I really was able to connect with the characters & loved getting engrossed into this world. Also, I’m a whore for alpha holes so of course I loved me some Elia - you’d be insane not to!! The intensity & passion between Elia & Caroline was out of this world. Elia is a true to the term jerk bag who hates everyone but develops a sweet sport for Caroline. He is damaged, dark, possessive & oh so steamy. Caroline is broken & trying to find a way to deal with her demons, which is how she finds herself marrying a mob boss. Although Caroline isn’t scared of the man, she challenges him. Loved every single second of this book & you will not be able to put it down! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS IS A MUST READ FRIENDS!

Here's the bottom line, I decided to read these after falling in love with Miller's Monster & Muses series (I always recommend them) and could out that the King's Trace Antiheroes intertwines with that series. I was going to read them anyway because Miller has become an instant purchase author for me.

However, I did not like this book. I liked it a little bit, but decided to give it three stars because the ending was super cute and the epilogue leads into the next book.

Ughhh this review is going to hurt me.

Tropes:
-Cheating
-Marriage of Convince
-Enemies to Lovers
-Touch her and you die

🌶-3, the first scene is absolutely awful, and kind of feels like it was forced by the MMC, but around 67% the spice is actually good

The characters, 4/10. Elia was not a favorite for me. The whole I'm a mafia boss with a heart of gold thing was not for me. I also did not like Carolina, who seemed just all over the place. The entire book she is very resistant to Elia and just all of the sudden gives into him, confessing this love that seemed to come out of no where.

There were a lot of supporting characters that seemed great but we didn't really get to see them, or even really get to know them and I always love when a story pulls all of the players in. Now Kal Mother Fucking Anderson was in the book, and I love him so much. I love every single one of his appearances, especially in the Monster and Muses books. I love that we get to see him before the events of Promises and Pomegranates.

The plot, 4/10. I could not stand this book. The plot just seemed all over the place. There was a lot of potential but it just did not seem like the execution was there. The dark part of this book didn't really seem to happen until the end, again a mafia boss with a heart of gold just is not fitting the villain I love when I read these books. As the story did progress we got to see a little more of the dark side of Eila, but it wasn't until the last 67% of the book.

Honestly, the second I found out there was cheating this book was never going to receive more than three stars from me. I absolutely loath that trope and don't like to read about it.

The ending was super cute, the two finally can get along without Eila being rejected. I also loved Epilogue One, Epilogue Two, and the Bonus Epilogue that takes place nine months after. I honestly think that if I read these before Monster's and Muses I would either never read my all time favorite books or I would have appreciated them more. There is no in between.

The pace, 4/10. Again, just a super slow book that you need to ride out to get to the good part.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book but I will be continuing on.
Always check the trigger warnings! Grooming, Blood Play, Graphic Torture Scenes are only some the triggers.

An amazing, dark and unpredictable Mafia romance with the best steamy and erotic scenes I have read in a long time.
From the get go this book hit the mark each and every fucking time!

Caroline has been through hell and back from the abuse and suffering her father has forced on her. From a young age using her to pay his debts while everyone else close to her turned a blind eye. So to avoid another one of her fathers attempts to use her, she agrees to marry Elia, a Mafia boss. It was only for convenience but it turns into so much more.

Elia is everything you think the head of a mafia would be:
Sexy, loyal, ruthless, dangerous and unapologetic
From the moment he meets Caroline he cannot resist her.
Knowing that she’s keeping something from him, he can’t help but need to know what it is and has the strongest desire to protect her and make her his in every way.

From the beginning I was pulled into the chemistry between Caroline and Elia.
The secrets and hidden agendas that were ever so slowly revealed kept me reading late in the night. I loved seeing the strength, comfort and healing they brought out in each other. And the lengths he went to in order to protect her were as brutal as they were romantic.

Overall this story was so well written, perfectly poetic as it encompassed each character’s deepest thoughts and emotions. Keeping me intrigued and excited in and throughout the entire story. I literally cannot wait for the next book in this series, especially after reading the epilogue that gave the briefest glimpse of the next book!

My first book by this author and in hooked! This is caroline and Elia's story. Caroline has been paraded infront of her father, the senator, investors for years her father hoping to pay off his debts by auctioning her off for marriage but caroline has other ideas when Elias the mafia boss of the Montaltos family asks her to marry him to get one up on his rival Kieran who was said to be the highest bidder she doesnt hesitate to accept. But what Elias thinks is carolines way to escape her father and keep her sister safe he soon realises the dark twisted truth as Caroline's secrets unravel before him. Well written and nicely paced through out with a great story plot that has you gripped from page 1. With suspense, action, twist and turns, desire, lust and retribution.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Sav has done it again, but even steamier this time! I love a good mafia romance and this is definitely that. There are brutal moments and a heartbreaking backstory, but the main character is so tough and sexy and her man is spicy hot. The set up for a sequel is so good, and the ending is so satisfying. There are definitely some triggering moments, but if you're able, this book is a great read. I really absolutely love Elia and Caroline.

Mafia, arranged marriage, violence, and sex- all the things I adore! Truth be told, I read these out of order. I read the second book and enjoyed it, so I came back here. And, while I liked this book, I didn’t like it quite as much.

Sav is clearly a talented and creative writer. She’s unapologetic about who her characters are, and there is some great mafia world building here. Her writing style is strong, and character voice is a celar strength. The plot is complex, we’ve got lots of twists and turns, and some really interesting nuances to this relationship. It is complicated and messy- and that is interesting. And the setting is unique and different for mafia. Though it didn’t necessarily espouse the usual “small town” trope conventions, it was intriguing to think about mafia in that context.

But really, where I just felt this less than book 2 was in the character chemistry. I don’t ever really feel much of an emotional connection or intimacy between these two. The relationship starts unconventionally - Elia unexpectedly stepping in to save Caroline from being auctioned off to a horrible marriage. His intentions are equal parts altruistic and selfish- he feels a pull to help her, but he also wants to aggravate an enemy. We have a lot of attraction, instalust, but there are some interesting dynamics, but again the connection didn't’ quite land for me. I’m normally not a stickler when it comes to “cheating” or safety- but for some reason it bothered me more than I expected that both characters have other dalliances, too. (and warning for those that are sticklers for those things).

I did appreciate a strong and formidable heroine - and the mafia intrigue part of the story landed (twists, secrets, etc.) I’ll definitely be continuing to check out this series, and while this one was only solid for me personally, Sav has a lot of talent and I liked book 2 even more. If you are a mafia fan and want to dig into a different mafia world with a unique perspective, definitely check out this series.

Woooo! What a ride. This book y’all, it definitely challenged me in a few places. I typically don’t read many mafia romances because they lean a little too hard into the gruesome parts. There are definitely some gruesome scenes but they make sense in the context of this story. Plus, the characters are amazing. 🔥

-

Caroline, what a sweet baby angel. I physically hurt and felt sick for her. She goes through some terrible situations that no person should ever be subjected to. Despite what has happened to her, she finds ways to succeed and still shows love. She truly had me in awe of her strength.

-

Elia. 🥵🔥😍🤤 I LOOOOOOVE him. He is delicious, there is just so much more to him than meets the eye. He is intelligent and compassionate, his heart is beautiful. The way he treats Caroline had me melting. His own personal story was heart wrenching, but he and Caroline are meant for one another.

-

I enjoyed this story so much, I’m still like WHAT IS HAPPENING with that epilogue though. 🤔 Elia and Caroline’s chemistry was incredible. I loved them so much! I’m sad that the book ended but I can’t wait to see what comes next. I also need more Juliet and Liv, they were incredible supporting characters.

THIS BOOK!
I have been hooked on this book, from the minute I read the first page I couldn't put it down until I finished it. This is a rare occurance for me these days being the mum of a demanding toddler 🤣

This book is so hot, it has a bit of everything. The drama, angst and obviously sexy, hot mafia boss!

Elia and Caroline have such a complicated relationship. Caroline is clearly broken from her past which is often eluded to, but your kept on the edge of seat actually trying to guess her past. And Elia has his own darkness, but he seems to just pull you in.

Right from the begining I fell in love with Elia, and often felt like shaking Caroline wanting her to give him a chance. Then as Carolines character was telling herself that she was crazy for finding his rough, violent ways a turn on. I sat there thinking I must be crazy too!!! Because oh my God, how hot is he?

“I’m gonna fucking ruin you, baby. Gonna come in you, brand you with my semen. Maybe lick that pretty little pussy clean when we’re done, just so I can flip you over and mount you all over again.”

This book was amazing and had me gripped from the get go. The story has you hooked and the chemistry between the characters was amazing. And can I just say that extra epilogue 😳

“Plans change, Caroline. People, feelings, and circumstances change all the time. The universe gives and takes away, and our job is just to try and keep up.”

This cover is gorgeous. The new cover is even prettier 😱 And I *need* to get both. 👀

Sooooo, I read Monsters & Muses first. That means King’s Trace is not unfamiliar and some of the characters have permanent residency inside my heart… rent free. Reading King’s Trace series seemed like a no brainer and an obvious must. I knew I was going to enjoy these books. But was I expecting to love them as much as Muses and Monsters?! Honestly, no. But did I?! HE|| YES!

Sweet Surrender was fantastic! I really, really enjoy a revenge plot. I’m a “burn the whole world to the ground” kind of reader 😁😎 I won’t feel bad or apologize for it. And the more gruesome the revenge, the better. I’m pretty sure some therapy would help. But alas…

And I can’t write this review without admitting to squeal with joy every time Kal was mentioned and/or was present. He’s still the OG for me and a forever favorite 🥹

What’s inside?

Sweet Surrender by Sav R. Miller is a dark mafia enemies to lovers romance. This is the first book in the King's Trace Antiheroes series.

The book does come with a caution “This book explores dark, sometimes troublesome themes, and has graphic content, including graphic violence, sexually explicit scenes, discussions of abuse, and profanity. It is not suitable for all audiences. Reader discretion advised.”

This is the first book of Sav's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I loved Elia and Caroline together. Both of their pasts and dark and messy but you can't help but root for them. I really enjoyed getting both Elia and Caroline's points of views throughout the story. It really brings the story to life.

I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series Sweet Solitude so I can get Kieran and Juliet's story.

I would recommend this book if you like mafia romances, dark romances, or enemies to lovers.

“Suspicion does not equal guilt,”
There’s trigger warnings by the ways so read at owners risk.
So I’m out of words for this book. It has everything enemies to lovers trope will live out. The mafia boss vibe because tf it’s a mafia book and just so easy going and sweet enough to engulf you and that’s the power that I crave. This book will get you out of a slump and I’m ready for book two now . I mean the chemistry , the revenge , the violence and yes I’m not okay. It just has a satisfying way of taking you along with the story line and capturing you and that is the magic.
It’s one of my fav mafia books now .

“My soul feels cleansed, rebirthed, and atoned, despite the blackness that still lurks in its depths.
But for now, I choose to focus on the light.”

“Christ, he’s attractive. The kind of man that clearly made a deal with Satan, because his good looks are just otherworldly.”
I’m die from this statement alone😹❤️
Too cute and passionate.

I really enjoyed this book! I thought the triggers I usually don't like was going to be a no go for me, but bc of Caroline personality and her strong willing soul wanting revenge I loved it! I read this on Kindle Unlimited, I loved how a character from Promises & Pomegranates shows up in this storyline also. I enjoyed the bonus epilogue, it was the sweet ending icing on the cake I needed for Elia/Caroline story together. I shall be moving onto Sweet Solitude asap. & Caroline's dad outcome was perfect bc I am glad he was handled by what Elias/Kieran had to do what Elias had to do for Caroline ♡

“I don’t need your forgiveness. Don’t want it. All I want is your goddamn surrender”.

3.5/5⭐️
2/3🔥

Book one in this series is a dark, mafia, hate to love, marriage of convenience romance between Elia and Caroline.

What I liked about this:
I like that this was really heavy on mafia plot, a lot of mafia romances don’t have that much mafia action in them but this was pretty hardcore. I also really liked Elia and that he wasn’t a typical mafia boss in that he had a softer side and didn’t want to let down his late mother. I also found a lot of his one liners really funny.

What I didn’t love as much:
Caroline. I just could not connect with her at all, I didn’t understand a lot of her choices and she just was not very likeable to me. If I don’t like either of the main characters it massively affects my enjoyment of the book. I completely understood why she wanted to do what she did and I felt so bad for her and what she went through in life. What I don’t understand is why she treated Elia the way she did, from the get go he made it clear he would protect her and help her with anything, yet she pushed him away even though she wanted his help. It was just a bit confusing to me and made the plot a bit disjointed at times.

Okay, let's go ahead and address the two COLOSSAL elephants in this review...

One: Triggers...Sweet Surrender by Sav R. Miller has tons of them. Parental abuse, sexual abuse, sexism, violence, cheating (SEE BELOW). A few taboo themes (not realllly, but some may think so). If you're okay with them, no issues. If you're not okay with them, you've been warned.

TWO: Cheating...Technically, yes there is cheating. Elia and Caroline have a marriage-of-convenience. BOTH of them have moments of being unfaithful (not full bowchickabowwow, but still). Usually that's a hard NO for me, and that's why I reduced my rating, BUT WAIT. While there was some jealousy, there wasn't any emotions involved yet. Their marriage was a contract, thus is a mob world, and both of them had troubled pasts. It's hard to judge a character on heinous actions because of our sugar-coated view on love.

Other than that, this story was well written, well developed, and heartwrenching. Caroline had a horrible life. She did things to protect her sister which showed her inner strength. I felt so bad for her throughout most of the story. Elias was born into the life of the mob which made him into the cold, vile, seemingly emotionless man he portrayed. But from the first moment with Caroline, they BOTH started changing and that was so amazing to watch.

Full of heartache, twists, action, violence, betrayal, steam, and an amazing love story Sweet Surrender was an all-around amazing read.

And that epilogue? Sooooo freaking adorable. Elia surprised me more than anything. He had the biggest character growth and I LOVED the man he turned into. Caroline eventually owned herself when she gave her heart to Elia and I feel like they earned a well deserved HEA.

Let me start this review by saying that Mafia is not a trope I tend to go for when I’m choosing a book. When I read the blurb of Sweet Surrender though, I found myself interested in this story. So I decided to give it a shot.

I am SO GLAD I did it!

Sweet surrender is a romantic and entertaining story, about a Mafia boss who falls in love with a woman the moment he lays eyes on her. Elia is far from being a good guy. He’s cold, cocky and HAH🔥🤤! However, when it comes to Caroline, his impulses take control. He’s got a soft soul underneath. The thing is that he’s not ready to let that part of him be exposed.

Caroline is a woman willing to do anything to leave the worst memories of her past behind. In spite of her best endeavors, the scars in her soul are far too deep and she can’t seem to find a way to move on with her life other than taking extreme measures. The moment she meets Elia, she’s caught up into feelings and sensations she’d never experienced before.

Sav Miller’s writing mastery is shown on every page of the book. That really blew my mind from the very beginning. I mean, who describes a man’s lips like she does?🤤

Another positive aspect is that she manages not to let the whole mob world drive the story, which for me would not be so great. The romance is at the forefront and that pleases the hopelessly romantic in me.😍

Lovers of mafia, dark romances def don’t wanna miss this one!

Most people never saw the pain Caroline carried in her heart. but Elia did!
by sewsummore

Caroline lived a double life. In public, she was the prim and proper daughter at her Senator Father's side, but beneath this facade was the heartbroken daughter her father pimped out in payment for his debts. Elia Montalto was a mafia boss and the self-imposed king of King's Trace. He could see the pain in Caroline's eyes, and he vowed to protect her from the monster that was her father. He knew the Senator intended to sell her off to the highest bidder, and he offered her a choice, marry him. I found this an absorbing story with a storyline that gradually revealed the cause of her pain and the growing chemistry between Caroline and Elia. Reading this story of desire and degradation made a lasting impression on me. Caroline never revealed the cause of her pain to her husband, but when Elia finally unraveled the truth and the reason he vowed revenge for the woman he had come to love. For years Caroline accepted her life as the cost of keeping her young sister meeting the same fate. Caroline's strength impressed and amazed me, the pain she endured arranged by the very man who was supposed to protect her.

"The prim and proper, fiery daughter of a U.S. Senator submitting to her mafia boss husband. Fucking perfection."

I've been on a huge mafia story binge lately. So, before my KU trial was up, I came across this story. Sooo glad I did. I could not put this down. From what started out as a marriage of convenience turned into something real and personally, I felt the connection there.

“You’re mine, and I will destroy anyone who thinks they can take you from me. And I won’t stop until these streets run rampant with their blood.

Elia, legit swoon. He definitely has his demons. But, so did Caroline. Looks like she found her white knight after all.

This was my first story by Sav R. Miller. This was a very well written and entertaining story. I'm definitely gonna start the next one now!

Still a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 from me

Sweet Surrender, the first book in the King's Trace Antiheroes series. This was the very first book where I fell in love with Sav's writing. Even a year an a half later, I still adore this book so much! This also shows me how far Sav has come as writer.
