Chris Slater has been a writer for as long as he can remember. From the age of 15, Chris knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. Pursuing a journalism career has been the main pursuit of Chris' life since 2001. He has had various trials and tribulations along the way and is still pursuing his dream of a career in journalism.

In 2007, Chris received a laptop computer from his grandpa as a Christmas present. In the summer of 2013, that computer finally began to break down. While going through the files to see what he would transfer to his new computer, Chris made a discovery: there were several completed or nearly-complete journalism works that had never been published anywhere. Either he completed them and forgot about them, his outlook on the work had changed to where it no longer was fit for being published, or he simply did not complete the work; but these works had been sitting on his computer for - in some cases - years.

The gamut of articles covers everything. A piece about the death of his hamster that ultimately explores the death of his 8-year relationship with his first girlfriend will tug at the heart strings. What is it like when your friends discover that you ask off from work in order to watch professional wrestling? Chris also kept a running live-blog of his 2008 Thanksgiving that is now finally being published. All of that and more, plus a new entry written specifically for the book: "My night in jail."

Chris Slater is 27-years-old and lives in small-town Southern West Virginia. He comes from what society would describe as a "broken home," but he doesn't like to sound so negative about things. Through his hardships and struggles in life, Chris has developed an understanding and acceptance of people that others don't seem to possess. One of Chris' goals in life is to help other people. His means of accomplishing that goal is through journalism. He wants to give people the information they need in order to make informed decisions. He has done this for many years through Concord University's student newspaper, The Concordian. Since 2008, he has written for various newspapers on a freelance basis, all the while chasing his main dream. He also writes a blog: http://chrisslater.blogspot.com and records the "Communication Breakdown" podcast. Find him at facebook.com/chrisslater and twitter.com/chris_slater.
