Then word from the medical examiner turned his assumption upside down! The new cause of death spawns a bizarre and complex set of questions which converts the investigation into a seemingly impenetrable maze. Crawford must adjust his focus but has almost nothing to go on until a friend of the dead man shows up and explains the victim's presence in Battenburg. The small town in eastern North Carolina doesn't seem so small as Crawford searches for motive, opportunity, and the murderer.
