I read this as an experiment, following the previous books in the series. I spent a total of 5.02 on the series, receiving the first book for free from Google Play, and purchasing the second and third (this one).

The editing is terrible, almost to the point of being unintentionally humorous. Constant misuse of homonyms is jarring (waist/waste site/sight), the author misspells several words (ie. solo plexus), confuses characters in the middle of a paragraph, changes the spelling of character's names etc. This author needs an editor - badly!

The story has some interesting ideas that I think could have made a good book or series in the hands of a competent writer, or, this writer with a very good and heavy handed editor. Some of the characters are interesting, although most are one dimensional and frustrating with their instant like/dislike reactions to the protagonist.

The issue I find most jarring is the constantly changing geography. Much of the story takes place in a huge Capital City surrounding a castle. However, the characters are able at various times to magically transport themselves: a) to a hidden lake with an island within several minutes of the castle, b) to a hidden mountain stream for a morning bath, c) to the middle of a deep magical woods and a witch's cottage. When the protagonist leaves the city for a foreign training session, the Legion marches 2 days to the sea. On the return, they are able to make the hike in half a day.

Every plot device seems to be a contrivance. The protagonist's mysterious magical powers only work when it is useful to the story. This is not an entirely bad thing, but the rest of the plot devices work similarly. Magical items are simply "found" laying around or in odd spots, monstrous beasts seem to change size - as if the author did not actually spend much time thinking about the repercussions of having the characters fight a dragon that can leave footprints that create canyons hundreds of feet deep, that also just "happen" to have the magical scepter they are looking for in a cave at the bottom.

There are several instances, especially at the end of the book, of intrigue that is closing in on well written. The world the story exists in could be interesting if properly fleshed out. There are a couple of interesting characters, but Ms. Rice seems to have mostly thrown them away once they are created - a good example is the servant who dumps the waste from the castle chutes. (Spelled waist several times in the novel).

The book reads like youth fiction, and this is not a bad thing. I've read several young adult books and series recently and enjoyed them very much. However, if the book is intended for young adults (about 10-13 by the complexity of the prose) then it should not feature characters being sold into the sex-trade, commoners being raped by pillaging raiders and enemies who tear out the throats of naked concubines and enjoy sitting with a naked corpse on their lap.

Also, if this is intended to be young adult fiction, it should be used as an example of how to butcher the English language.

Ok.. I am officially calling it a day on this series of books. In fact, I actually cannot bring myself to even finish this book..
The clichés are just getting silly, there is literally no suspense or drama.. I'm pretty sure at one stage the wrong character name was used.
There are no cliff hangers or twists... Everything works out for the better, everything is "a pure shot" or "an exact hit" it's all rather infuriating. Can someone please be killed off? Someone other than the expected..
I really would not recommend this book, try things books by Robin Hobb or Brian D Anderson.. These are well written as highly addictive not this tripe...

Η χρονική περίοδος που διαδραματίζονται τα γεγονότα είναι μεγαλύτερη απ'ότι στα πρώτα βιβλία. Αν και κάνουμε κάτι τεράστια πηδηματακια στο χρόνο, τουλάχιστον δεν γίνονται τα πάντα μέσα σε 2 μέρες.

Εμ...υποθέτω έχει περισσότερη δράση? 🙄

Αρνητικές σκέψεις

Πάνε πέρα δώθε σε μέρη πολύ γρήγορα. Πώς γίνεται να γυρίζουν μέσα σε ένα απόγευμα από μέρος που τους πήρε να πάνε 4 μέρες?

Υπάρχουν νέοι χαρακτήρες με καλες προοπτικές που εγκαταλείφθηκαν γρήγορα παρόλο που φαινόταν ότι θα ήταν ενδιαφέρουσα η ιστορία τους. Ίσως στα επόμενα βιβλία τους ξαναδούμε αλλά δεν νομίζω κρίνοντας πως τους χρησιμοποίησε εδώ.

Νόμιζα ότι ότι το βιβλίο είναι για ηλικίες 12-16 και ξαφνικά πέφτουν βιασμοί, εμπόριο πορνείας και γυμνές concubines που σφάζονται με το καλημέρα. Όχι ότι είναι αυτό παράγοντας που με απομακρύνει από ένα βιβλίο φυσικά. Λατρεύω για παράδειγμα το game of thrones. Ωστόσο άλλαξε η φύση της ιστορίας ξαφνικά και δεν ταιριάζουν τα σημεία αυτά με το υπόλοιπο βιβλίο. Επίσης τα κάνει να φαίνονται πολύ καζουαλ θέματα και ξεχνάνε τόσο οι χαρακτήρες όσο και εσύ ότι συμβαίνουν το οποίο προσωπικά βρίσκω αρνητικό. Μέχρι και στα μεγάλα βιβλία φαντασίας με αυτά τα στοιχεία μέσα, δίνεται βάση σε ηθικά ερωτήματα ή στην φρικαλεότητα των πράξεών.

Αυτό που όλοι σέβονται τον Θοργκιν αλλά μετά κάτι χαζό συμβαίνει και ξαφνικά όλοι τον αμφισβητούν για να το διορθώσει εκείνος και να αποκτήσουν "καινούργιο σεβασμό στα μάτια τους" έχει καταντήσει φοβερά βαρετό και με εκνευρίζει. Σταμάτα να τραβάς την ίδια κάρτα επειδή θες να δημιουργήσεις δράμα και να καλύψεις το ότι απλά δεν μπορείς να σκεφτείς κάτι άλλο να γράψεις. Αμάν.

Τελική γνώμη
Γιατί να συνεχισω? Το σκέφτομαι σοβαρά να μην το κάνω. Έχω όλη τη σειρά δωρεάν βέβαια οπότε δεν χάνω λεφτα. Από την άλλη υπάρχουν πόσα άλλα βιβλία που με περιμένουν να τα ανοίξω και θα φάω χρόνο στη μπούρδα?

Slightly less interesting than book 2, but I'm glad the book jumped ahead and did not take place during such a short time period as the previous ones have. I'm actually starting to look at the books in this series as episodes in a TV-show, because of that they are so short and - with the exception of this one - do not cover much time. And then there's the fact that they start off sort of solving things left off from the previous book, things calm down (somewhat) and then there's a new cliffhanger in the end to make you want to continue reading ;) But it's good and a quick read.

UPDATE 27th of December 2015: Putting this series on hold as for now as, despite the good cliffhanger ending to this book, I have lost interest in the story. Might pick it up again eventually

Este libro me ha gustado bastante, aunque menos que los primeros dos. Es el tercer libro de una saga de 17 ejemplares. Aunque ese número me intimida, ¡estoy decidida a leerlos todos! Esta fantasía épica es realmente buena, aunque muy sencilla. El universo de la historia no es muy complejo, pero es lo suficientemente interesante como para atraparte entre sus bosques y ciudades.

Un elemento en contra de esta saga es la falta de personajes femeninos, en especial los empoderados. Los demás personajes masculinos están bien construidos, tanto los villanos como los héroes, pero aún así, los personajes femeninos fuertes nunca están de más.

Algunas veces es la sencillez de una historia lo que la hace tan buena. Creo que eso es lo que me pasa con estos libros. En realidad, no son la gran cosa. Podrían pasar desapercibidos entre las grandes fantasías épicas como "El Señor de los Anillos", "Juego de Tronos" o alguna de las obras de B. Sanderson. Aún así, de alguna forma esta historia me ha atrapado. Te recomiendo dejarte atrapar también.

Personajes favoritos: Thor, Reece, Krohn, Kendrick, Erec, Godfrey.

This author seriously needs to decided what audience she is writing to, desperately needs a proof reader and in places a reality check. Like all of the books in this series so far, it is full of spelling and grammatical errors, punctuation in the wrong places and very obvious inconsistencies - sometimes in the same paragraph! The following section particularly annoyed me:

"The arrow carried the rope higher and higher through the air, until it reached the very top of the cliff and looped itself around a small tree. It was a perfect shot, the arrow falling cleanly over one end and sliding back down the mountain."

It then goes on to say

"He pulled himself up relatively quickly and easily, climbing higher and higher until he reached the top."

Ignoring the question of whether or not it is a realistic shot, as a climber there are many things that annoy me about this paragraph.

1) The cliff is over a hundred feet tall. If the rope also slid "back down the mountain" they would need an awful lot of rope. If it slid all the way down the "mountain" they would need in excess of two hundred feet of rope. It was a stroke a luck that O' Connor 'just happened' to be carrying a rope around his waist - let alone the correct amount.

2) Carrying that amount of rope around your waist is not really practical (and probably not the most comfortable way to carry it either).

3) The Legion has just swum across a monster-infested sea to get to the shore. There is no mention of them carrying any belongings, supplies or equipment when they jumped/were pushed off the boat. Climbing rope, especially that much rope is very heavy and bulky, especially when wet. Yet it didn't seem to pose any problems for O' Connor's swim.

4) There is no mention of the rope until after Reece and Thor have fallen from the cliff. Why did their friend allow them to start climbing when he had conveniently brought a rope with him?

5) Why is O' Connor carrying that much rope anyway? He's the only one that is. Why is that? Where did it come from? There is no mention of it previously and yet it is something that is important enough to mention.

6) One minute they are trying to climb a sea cliff the next it becomes a mountain?

7) Even with a rope (and no other gear or method of tying yourself into said rope) a hundred foot climb would certainly not be quick nor would it be easy! They would still had had the same "small crags" to use as foot holds, the only difference being that they had a rope to hold onto. All of the boys managed the climb and not one of them had rope burns.

8) The rope must have still been wet from the sea, thereby reducing it's efficiency for climbing and making it hard to hold onto. Unless it was a magical rope and the author just "forgot" to mention this fact?

I liked it.

Again we are left with a cliffhanger and I will buy then next one of course to find out what happens next.

The good:

The romance is done right, I suppose it's because the author is female. Sorry guys, but us women know what we want and like...unfortunately few male authors get it right IMO.

The pace is good and there is decent action although few people die and it is a bit predictable. There were some times it got a little slow during the training parts..for me..as it all seemed preditctable and cookie cutter.

For Erika:
Thor remains faithful and so does Gwen..they both love each other very much and have told each other so.

The bad:

The author has a thing for the color purple. Purple creatures, purple outfits so much purple. Speaking of creatures, they all seem so outrageous. Horns, tentacles, fangs, three heads, eight fingers and toes....and they are all so colorful..yellow, purple, red and green..a bit too fantastic IMO.

The antagonist: too evil..unrealistically so. Too greedy, too arrogant and too stupid. It appears he likes to shoot himself in his own foot alot (figuratively speaking). But he is a character we all love to hate (Gareth). McCloud is just as bad. Evil for the sake of being evil. Not my favorite type of bad guy.

The ugly: I have no issues with this but some may. There is abuse, rape, animal abuse (McCloud whipping his horse too much) violence etc.. The rape is only mentioned not shown, the violence is not too terribly gorey, but detailed enough to turn some off.

There are some small instances of modern terms or phrases used but not so bad, and only rarely.

Romance peeps: As said above Thor and Gwen stay faithful, and it looks like Thor plans to ask her to marry. Ederc has asked Alistair to marry him, she accepted. Unknown about their past with men/women. Rape and pilliaging mentioned but not detailed (by bad guys not hero).

Glaring grammatical, spelling, and editorial errors killed this book/series for me. It could have been very interesting but the author seems in places to have lost all sense of the world being created. The supreme lack of description and poor use of homonyms just drags everything down. This writer is in desperate need of a reliable editor.

This series is highly derivative and lacks in creativity. The writing is not very sophisticated. But if you're looking for a cheap, quick, mindless read, this fits the bill. Despite my rather ambivalent attitude toward the series, I keep reading it. It's a rather guilty pleasure.

This may be the worst book I have ever read. Why did I finish it, because I feel I should give it a chance which was a poor reason for this book. Looking at the publishing dates of this series of young adult books I think I understand what is going on. The writer is cranking these out about every month and a half and it is obvious in her writing. It is simply totally formulaic canned fantasy with numerous examples of poor grammar and a total lack of any original idea. Everything is amazing and more overwhelming than anything the character has ever experienced in their lives. There is even gratuitous blood shed and also a bit of sex, naked girls chained to the floor being picked up, killed, and their blood consumed by a human/creature. There is a dragon that must be over 500 feet long but the hero manages to jump on its back. There is a canyon hundreds of feet deep that was created by a dragon's foot, that definitely is one big dragon! There is a tournament of knights with dozens of rounds left to fight but suddenly it is the final round with 10 knights or so. These are only a few examples of the inconsistencies throughout the book. Combined with a total lack of imagination and intelligence this book is simply a canned fantasy tale cranked out with minimal work and no proof reading at all. I can definitely say I am finished with this series. It is no wonder these are self published as I am certain no reputable publisher would ever consider them, even if they were significantly rewritten.

I hate to write such a bad review but in this case I feel it is well deserved.

So... The only reason I haven't smashed my eReader through the floor in a futile attempt to send this series straight to hell is because I did not use my own money to buy it but rather the left overs of an iTunes gift card. I've read several reviews for this series since I've started and many people who give it a rating of 3 or higher claim that it is a great young adult read. As I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember I can say with firm and resolute conviction that if I had read this fetid steaming dump that someone crammed between a dust jacket as a young adult I'd be as offended as I am now.

Just to list a few of the many issues with this series: horrid dialogue, shallow characters, inane plot progression, lack of details, poor pacing and just one after another unrealistic nonsensical character reaction. I've tried repeatedly to find anything good to say about this series but even though at first I thought there was some slim sliver of a decent concept buried deep down here the authors complete lack of technical skill completely destroys any glimmer of hope. I barely managed to force my way through the first 3 books (that came as a bundle) and can't not understand how anyone has managed to read the entire series or how this even became published in the first place.

While I know I am repeating myself, this is another masterpiece from this author. In this third episode, our hero Thor goes for his training in a distant island, together with other members of his group. But that is not a regular trip. His training will last one hundred days, in an island full of dangerous places, with cyclops, dragons, and warriors from all over the places. And the trip to the island is an adventure on its own. But while he is at the island, things in the Ring deteriorate quickly and an invasion from the McCloud clan is imminent. Gwendolyn is joining forces with her brother Godfrey to find the real murderer of her father. They do not believe in the accusations their brother Gareth is planting against their other brother Kendrick. And Erec is trying to find a spouse far away from the kingdom, unaware of everything that is going on.
This episode brings a lot of action, but I strongly recommend you read the series from the beginning, so you fully understand the dynamic among the characters.
I recommend this book to the permanent library of all readers who love a well written story with a fascinating plot, that will keep you entertained for hours.

Ok… Ya es el tercero que leo de la saga y solo puedo pensar en una cosa ¿Por qué sigo? Durante el primer libro me quejaba bastante de las MUCHAS casualidades y conveniencias que tiene, pero las deje pasar porque me divertida, dejándome llevar al segundo y ahora hasta el tercero.
“El destino de los dragones” es la muestra de que este, junto a los otros dos anteriores pudieron ser fácilmente un único libro y quedaba mejor, más orgánico y con más sensación de llegar a algún lado.
No tengo mucho que decir, siento que es una saga no termina de explotar todo lo que tiene por ofrecer, dejando todo en la superficie y muy conveniente. Algunos ejemplos son el personaje de Malic o la subtrama de los McCloud. Me está gustando esta saga, pero siento que pude haber sido mucho más de lo que es y eso, a mi parecer, la hace pecar y dejar muy expuestas sus carencias más que sus virtudes.
Por último, debó admitir que por más problemas que le he encontrado sabe enganchar al lector, o al menos así fue en mi caso, debido a que hubo momentos en que me dije: “Este es el último de la saga que leo, mejor dejarlo aquí”, pero fue logrando evolucionar para debatirme verdaderamente si seguir o no, dejándome con la intriga de saber que sucederá en el siguiente libro.

En esta tercera entrega de la saga, Morgan Rice orienta la atención hacia el viaje de Thor a través del Mar de Fuego, un trayecto que debe llevarlo hasta la Isla de la Niebla del Dragón. En apariencia se trata de una etapa de formación para Los Cien, concebida como una temporada de entrenamiento que los convertiría en guerreros experimentados, aunque la realidad se complica con rapidez. Lo que debía ser un rito de preparación se transforma en una travesía difícil, marcada por peligros inesperados, lo que empuja a Thor a forzar el despertar de sus habilidades y a descubrir la manera adecuada de emplearlas. El misterio sobre quiénes regresarán con vida se sostiene con firmeza y se suma a la cuestión de cuánto cambiarán aquellos que logren sobrevivir.
Mientras tanto, en la Corte se despliega un tablero político marcado por la consolidación del poder y por la búsqueda del asesino del rey. Las alianzas inestables, las sospechas persistentes, los temores profundos y las venganzas silenciosas forman parte de un ambiente donde cada movimiento puede definir o derribar la autoridad que pretende mantenerse en pie. Es un escenario que recuerda, con cierto gusto clásico, que las luchas internas suelen ser tan letales como las batallas abiertas.
Como novela épica juvenil, la obra mantiene un buen nivel de tensión en los enfrentamientos y sostiene el interés con solvencia. Podría haber profundizado un poco más en el aspecto romántico que muchos lectores esperan en este tipo de historias, aunque ese vacío también deja espacio para que la imaginación haga lo suyo. El cierre deja preparada la ruta para la continuación y despierta la sensación de querer seguir acompañando a los personajes, sobre todo para descubrir hasta dónde los llevará el destino que la saga les tiene reservado.

Bravo!!!! Wow, yet another great adventure for the reader. Morgan Rice has elevated the character stories even more so in this 3rd book, and has even managed to leave us atop another cliff as the final chapter comes to a heart racing hault. Without giving too much away, I found myself lost in the pages and turning chapter after chapter eager to find out more about Thor's powers and adventures with the Hundred. Morgan is a master at creating tension and anticipation, bringing the reader close to informational climax, only to have that thread pulled away just as the end is coming into view....There are still so many unanswered questions, and conquests that need travelled....Morgan will capture your mind, take hold of your every free moment, tease your senses and leave you wanting more. As a fan, I am delightfully dejected at the close of this book, and in true Morgan fashion, I'm left counting down the days until book 4 comes out.

3.5 stars. The books in the Sorcerers Ring are entertaining and have many likeable characters. I hesitate to give more stars because the writing in these books are quite simplistic. Don't get me wrong, I don't require complex prose, but the dialogues can be quite hokey at times and the continuity is lacking. As an example, one minute Khron the leopard will tear a warriors arm off, yet he is small enough to be carried in Thors shirt. It's a small thing but they add up and take away from the overall quality of the book. But with that said, I will continue reading as each book has had a compelling storyline to follow.

A Feast Of Dragons is probably one of the most action packed books in the first three books in the trilogy. I really recommend reading this book because Thor goes in the Empire where he has to survive one hundred days with the legion while training with the most elite warriors of the world. I also like this book because Thor battles a Dragon the size of a mountain and kills a hundred foot giant. Also in this book Thor starts to develop powers he nexr had which now believes him to think if hes human and who are his parents.

As stated in my earlier reviews Morgan Rice is in dire need of an editor. Thor feels accepted for the first time in his life no less than four distinct times. I have no idea what book the people giving four and five star reviews if those aren't from paid reviewers then I can only guess they are family members of Rice.

I was given the entire series by a friend (though I am now wondering if he really isn't a frenemy after this 'gift'). Reading these books feels more and more like I have received ARC galley copies for editing review, rather than the final copies they are.

I can't with these books anymore. I know it's not working for me when I start rolling my eyes on the plot line. I know it's fantasy but it's shocking. Badly written, badly told, the main character doesn't ever seem to have anything go wrong, or if it does you can guarantee that by the next chapter it will sort itself out. Incredible. I've now read the three books I got for free from Amazon, and that's it...no more!

Morgan Rice has a lot of books out there so when this one came up as free I gave it a shot, and am sorry I did. The first chapter has warriors (also known as homicidal sociopaths) riding down a mountain in to a village. The king immediately targets a woman, cuts her leg with an ax and then jumps off his horse to rape her. I quit reading after that.
Horrible. It's astounding that anyone reads these books.

Deel 3 uit de serie van 17(!) boeken, en ook dit boek staat weer vol met fouten in de vertaling. ammer.

Thor vertrekt samen met de Krijgsmacht naar een ver eiland om gedurende 100 dagen te trainen. Niet alle jongens redden de trainingen, er komen er zelfs een paar bij om.

Ook dit boek eindigt met een cliff-hanger, maar dat is logisch, anders zou de serie niet door kunnen. Het boek is wel voorspelbaar

Not enough suspense. There is too little interaction with characters I consider interesting, such as Argon. When the main characters, Thor and Gwen, find themselves in peril the situation is resolved in a page or two. This book was just predictable.

The book cover has a lovely sight of the medieval castle with the sunset in the background. I give this book 5 stars.
