A Bond of Blood is book nine in the series A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest. Gosh, this series is killing me. Every single book is so intense, the action non-stop. I can almost picture the author laughing maniacally as she adds one crazy scene after another knowing she is driving her readers crazy!
Anna is gone. But who took her? Was it Caleb? Rose so wants to believe the vampire she grew to care for couldn’t have done it. But who else was on the island? Her family convinces her that it had to be him. That everything he did, was all a ruse to gain entry to The Shade and apprehend their immune, Anna.
Sofia and Derek take their strongest fighters and witches to the island where they believe the evil witch Annora is keeping Anna. The same island where Caleb lives. Derek knows what he wants to do to Caleb if given the chance.
Back on The Shade, Rose and Ben are supposed to be waiting. But can they just wait while their family and friends are fighting? And why haven’t they come back?
This book, as it’s predecessors, is crazy intense as our beloved vampires led by their King and Queen, Sofia and Derek Novak, try to save Anna. But as a result, their island is left vulnerable. What does Annora want with their island? Can Corrine keep the island and all it’s human inhabitants safe?
We have a reappearance of some previous characters in this book which add a wonderful twist. Kiev Novalic and his girlfriend, the powerful witch Mona, are back. Along with Kiev’s siblings, many other vampires, and a bunch of werewolves and an ogre. I only read the first book of the Kiev Trilogy so I was worried that not having read the other two would hinder my understanding of this turn of events. But, it didn’t at all. Bella added enough information to make the addition smooth.
“The Novaks and Novalics…We were stronger combined. Strong enough? Only time would tell.”
Even after nine books, Bella Forrest has found a way to keep us coming back book after book to this series. She calls us addicted readers Shaddicts. So does that mean that I am one? I guess I am because I keep coming back.
Can Rose get Caleb out of her heart? Is the Shade safe now? Of course, just when we finally feel like things have calmed down and we can take a breath, the evil Annora reveals something else sinister she has done, only our beloved residents of The Shade don’t know it yet. So off I go to the next book, A Spell of Time, to see what happens next.
I made the mistake of downloading this book just after midnight with the intention of just reading the first chapter or so. I'm sure you can imagine how that went. After being thrilled that we finally have Derek and Sofia back and back as the vampires I always pictured them as, ruling the Shade together their family was torn apart in the last book and while at the end Rose and Ben were back safe on the island Anna was gone. Everyone is certain that Caleb used returning Rose as a cover for kidnapping the very pregnant Anna and now she's in Annora's hands. A rescue mission is planned as Derek, Sofia plus Ibrahim, witches and the most powerful fighters go to retrieve Anna but it seems too easy and Annora is more powerful than any of them ever imagined. The situation is looking more than desperate and it's hard to see a way out, will Annora's power fail, is Caleb not the evil kidnapper he's thought to be, will Corrine be able to aid them or will help come from somewhere else because one thing is certain they do need help. I've loved every Shade book and this is no exception and the end is brilliant and leaves you waiting for the next book.
Sophia and Derek are captured when they go to the ice island to rescue Rose. They don't understand with the dozen witches they had brought with them how one witch was able to capture them.
But Annora is no ordinary witch she is a black witch, evil. Sophia begins to give up hope when someone appears from the past, someone she thought she would never see again. He says he is there to help. But can Sophia and Derek trust the very man that took something so precious from then long ago?
I don't know how this author does it but e v e r y single book gets better and better ... each book brings new characters and new challenges and the story gets even deeper ... ❤️
Ugh the thing about this series is that the books themselves really don't get any good until the very end of each book yes they have lots going on but by the end Im just done and then the author pulls me back in .. have you ever not liked something but couldn't stop yup that's this series and the only reason I keep giving 3 stars across the board is because I keep dang reading so frustrated
I can't believe I just read this book in the space of a few hours but I was hooked. Just ordered the next four books can't wait to read the installment "A spell of time"
Nine books in (12 if you count Kiev’s trilogy) and still going strong! I love how after all of these books she still manages to keep the story fresh and exciting and I’m always left excited for the next installment! Admittedly I wasn’t a huge fan of Kiev’s trilogy, I really liked Kiev but couldn’t connect at all with Mona so I was glad to see that the author was leaving that story at three books and wrapping them back into The Shade series because I love the world she’s built with The Shade and I was excited to see how Kiev and Mona would fit back into the fold. Of course they were introduced back into the story seamlessly and it perfectly fit into the other events that were unfolding with Caleb and Annora. I loved seeing Kiev reunite with Sofia after all that time, especially after all Kiev has been through and how much he’s changed. It was also super tense as he came face to face with Derek for the first time since kidnapping Ben. It was great how the ‘bond of blood’ theme played out and I think it’s going to make for a very interesting dynamic on the island going forward!
This book was chock full of danger and action as the crew sets out to find Anna. Trouble awaits them as they enter Annora’s island and things look hopeful many times, but in usual Shade fashion there are many twists and turns and things just come together so cleverly. These books really are a lot of fun to read!
One of the best things has been seeing Sofia and Derek as parents to teenagers, they’ve matured so much and I love seeing them going all mama and papa bear over Rose and Ben. I may have said this in my review of A Shade of Novak but I’ll say it again, it was so smart of the author to have the time jump and focus on the four of them, again just another way to keep things fresh and new while still keeping things familiar. It’s like returning home again each time I get to read a new one of these books and I love that the family on the island just keeps growing and growing. We get to see a bit more of Rose and Caleb as she searches for answers and there’s even an unlikely potential romance for Ben (which I did not expect but am totally on board with!). I hope that these relationships are explored even more in the coming books.
The epilogue was ominous and I am very worried for our favorite vampire crew. I am glad to see I only have to wait a few weeks for the next book to come out, I can’t wait to see where things go next!
It's interesting that characters that fall thru the cracks become reborn into more supernatural storylines. An life goes on in the Shades island with the growing Novak extended families. How big is this island? Plus have redwood like in Washington state which is a colder climate and this island is a warmer. However, I might be wrong. But, we readers are reading a supernatural novel and vamps, werewolves. Trolls, etc. are part of our fantasy world. At least for me, I haven't ran into any of these creatures in my lifetime. Worthy read but Bella you need to step it up and bring more to your storytelling a am becoming . . . just slightly bored.
I was not expecting that ending at all! I didn't even think it could have ended like that! Very good! Of course it leaves you wanting to read the next book. I was very happy how Bella incorporated Kiev into this book as well. That was very well done! I am hoping to see more of Rose and Caleb the next book as well. I thought they didn't get enough "screen time"! I also would love to see Matteo's story. I am so intrigued by him. I want to know everything about him! I have been a fan since the first book so I will be returning to the Shade for the next!
i love these books although i have yet to read Kiev's books. i just dont know about this ine. I feel it was rushed and all over the place with some plot holes. Rose acts 5 instead of 17. I dunno i will read the next one when i have time but im not gonna wait for it like i used to do with these books.
DNF- Lost interest part way through this story. Each book so far has had enough content for it to be its own tv episode (or 2), taking a couple hours to read. When put down you lose interest in the story, like tv again you either binge it or drop it and in the case of these books I dropped them. I liked the characters but honestly I didn’t care about them enough to carry on.
What?! There's more?! Well I can't wait to read the next instalment. This was also another fantastic read. So much suspense and action. I really hope we hear more from Rose and Caleb. It can't be the end. Another 5 stars!
This book was by far, the best read in the series. So much is going on which makes this book hard to put down. Oh my, and the reintroduction of Kiev was a surprise due to the supposed changes in him. I didn't think I could look forward to another book with him in it; but I was wrong.
I really enjoyed this one, but this series is taking forever and just when I thought everything was good, then there we go again. I'll resume when the final book a shade of vampire #89 or maybe #100 is out.
Mona (Kiev's girlfriend) is a Channeler, as revealed by the kind of 'post-script' ending. Annora put Derek & Sofia through agony but apparently she put the same kind of blood 'bond'/curse on them that she has on Caleb, Stellan, and everyone else connected to her in the islands they control.
After seven days of being separated from the island, the Novaks will start seeing the flesh rot from them. She mentions that the "Channeler" (Mona) may have been able to keep Annora out of the Shade but she can't fix what she doesn't know exists!
Also we find that Kiev, Mona, et al, are some rag-tag group of cast-off pirates, to include werewolves (the leader being Saira), an ogre (Brett, outcast for being too soft), and Matteo Borgia, brother of Natalie, who apparently was at the mercy of the elder's like Kiev so he has accepted Kiev's slaughtering of his sister and they are in this crew together. The crew has decided to stay at the Shade, which is probably for the best considering what Annora says at the end of the series.
Rose also asks Mona to bring Caleb to her on a remote island so she can ask why he lied and took blame for kidnapping Anna and Caleb basically shuts her down cold.
Abby, after traveling with Ben to the cave where Kiev, Mona and the others were found (with Anna), realizes that she has an interest in Ben... and at the end of the book he asks her to go for a walk with him!
Also at the end of the book, Aiden finally gets up the courage to ask Adelle out only to hear her laughing at "their" lake and then hearing a second laugh.. a man's laugh.. and finds her there with his closest friend, and resident bachelor, Eli. Is it too little too late?
Kiev has a 3 part mini-series that I think I'm going to read next and I'm honestly a little annoyed that at the end of book 7 I think it was, the author said that it's basically the end of Derek & Sofia's story... because meanwhile, it's all about them (and their kids!) which I'm not complaining about I guess it's a happy surprise, annoying to feel deceived nonetheless :P

Rose and Ben were on different islands with different vampire abductors. Rose is with Caleb, she has a furnished apartment and is given mostly everything she asks for, especially musical instruments. Meanwhile, Ben is suffering living without food in the dungeons of the castle he's In. When they offer the twins back in exchange for the island's one and only immune, Anna, Derek bluffs; but he grabs Ben from the Vampire before he wakes up. Caleb grows a conscience and promises Rose to help her escape. He needs her gone, he's becoming find of her and if the witch found out, she'd punish them both.
When they arrive at the port of The Shade, he wants to leave immediately, but Rose wants her parents to meet her hero. But when Anna is kidnapped, heavily pregnant, they all know that Caleb played in Rose's affections for that one purpose, to get her to trust him. Now she doesn't know who to believe.
When their parents and some of the island's strongest and elite go search for Anna, including the witches, they are sucked into a trap by the Annora, the evil witch of both castles. Once they reach the island the witches are stripped of their powers and the Vampires are weak.
So now it's up to the kids to find their parents and for Rose to get closure. In the process, they pick up the most unlikely ally ever.
I love everything about these books! There is not one thing I would change. Awesome author that can keep you intrigued all the time and not want to put the books down. Darn responsibilities just get in the way of my shade reafing! Lol!
Love love love this series! My favorite series! It's so hard to keep up with my responsibilities because I'm so into these books! Amazing author with such an awesome imagination! Don't ever stop dreaming Bella Forrest!
I was beyond thrilled when some old characters came back and are staying for good. They couldn't have shown up at a more perfect time to help save the shade and everyone else. Everyone at the shade just can't seem to stop getting themselves into trouble and making enemies although some past enemies have now turned into allies. This book is filled with so much action and drama. The excitement never ends at the shade.
After Ben and rose are returned to the shade. Everyone seems calm till Kyle claims his wife Anna the only immune on the island is gone. Everyone points the finger at Caleb who brought Rose back. While her family is,looking for Anna. Rose is,on her own search to seek out the truth from Caleb. Can she handle the truth??? Must read great series.
I loved this book (as I have the other eight books so far) but one thing I must say is I feel like Forrest becomes a little... lazy... for lack of better word when it comes to detail in flashbacks and when characters tell stories. I also do wish the books were a bit longer and more in depth in detail. I love the serried so far though! <3
Since the twilight saga I haven't been able to find anything worth reading because of how bored I get. But this series is by far the best thing I've read since I was a child. I will go on and read as many as this author makes because already onto book 10 and still not one page bored me in any way! I cannot! #ShadeOfVampire#10 #UNSTOPPABLE #READIMGTILLMYEYESBLEED #VAMPIREADDICT*LOVE*
Continuing in this incredible story the vampires and humans battle for survival. Forces of even worse debauchery is unleashed on the Shade. Another reading to the last word was in order.
You can always count on an action packed book with a cliff hanger ending from Bella Forrest in her A Shade of Vampire series. It gets you going and then leaves you wanting more. A very well played tactic. This second set of the series is fun with it now following the twins’ life too.
