thanks to the author for sending me an ARC of this book 👀

I am BEYOND obsessed with these two they're just so adorable together.

after how the first book of them ended I just really needed them to get their HEA and they really really did. I adore these two idiots so much and I kind of don't know what to do with myself now that the series is over

oh and also i love Delilah she's the best and I need to see more of all of her shenanigans because she's hilarious.

The Mage and His Stolen Prince is the third book in the Stolen Groom series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. We are back with Trey and Wilde for another adventure. This was a rollercoaster ride of twists and turns as Wilde kept taking us back in time. This was just an amazing story. I loved how different the characters were as they changed after going back in time. The story pulled out so many emotions. This was an amazing take on time manipulation. I truly appreciate how unique this book was. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

I didn’t think I could love these two more than I did the first time around.
Wilde just broke my heart. I was so happy to get much more of the story from his POV this time around because I was fascinated with him during the first part of this duet.
Seeing how he would do absolutely anything for Trey, it’s where love meets obsession.

I am never ready to leave these two. I just want to read more and more.
Also every time the parents pop up I loved. It’s so fun to see them all grown up.
Oh and Angelica is my queen. That is all

4.5/5. The best ending to the wild ride that was this story. I will admit that until I got a couple pieces of the puzzle, the beginning was hella fucking confusing. It added to the fun of the book when I got myself situated, though, so it was well done in its convoluted-ness, same as last time. I loved the whole thing and I’m so glad I found book one when I did and fell into that love because look where it led me. Book adventures!

Thank you Gay Romance Reviews and the author for the ARC

“The Mage and his Stolen Prince” broke me on so many levels! This jumps straight after the events from the previous book and Wilde turns back time to one where Trey didn’t know who his father was and one where he is aware of their love.

Wilde does everything to make sure that Trey can fall in love with him again, but when anything goes wrong, he resets time again, costing him his health. So we witness Wilde failing and rebuilding and retrying, and it’s really heartbreaking to see him alongside Trey, who has no idea who he is. However, the more he messes with time, the more the memories of the champions become muddled. Nevertheless, this time Trey is not fragile like he was in the previous book. Here, he never had to fake that he was a prince, so his attitude is more arrogant, since he doesn’t have that moral doubt. So Trey from this book is very different from Trey in the previous book.

I have to admit I loved Delilah a lot here and especially Angelica. Seeing her with Fyodor back again in action was super fun. I loved that the author kept them knowing each other and interacting, because in the previous book it was super fun. It’s not the same plot per se, there are some changes, but I loved that Angelica kept the same essence. She’s still smart and kind. Delilah is Wilde’s companion. She’s the first to remember Wilde, so she knows his secret, and for a while they work together. I think Delilah here is a lot more mature. She’s still an agent of chaos, but she’s more mature and feels for Wilde. Maybe because she’s more aware of him and how much he loves Trey. I really thought she changed, but for the best.

The times the story changed because of Wilde’s failure and to see his mind being more messed up really saddens me. Wilde in the previous is very much in control. He’s kinda Dom vibes, but here he’s destroyed. Seeing what happened to Trey and trying to salvage the love of his life took a toll on him mentally, and he does everything to save the love of his life. He does try to sacrifice everything to make sure they both can be together again. So, while the previous book Trey had moral questions and he questioned how good he actually was. In this book, Wilde has to convince himself he’s the evil guy. Because everything he does, it’s with a good intent. He just wants to save the love of his life and spend the rest of his life with the man he loves.

“The Mage and his Stolen Prince” is a must-read! It’s beautiful, heart-breaking and still fun. It still has an adventure, and the time loops are really amazing, especially when you see that some characters switch lines between books. And we also get the minions scenes! The minion scenes are so adorable. I really loved this book, and I hope you all will enjoy it as well.

The Mage and His Stolen Prince
J. E. Ridge

4/5 stars

WARNING: Spoilers for "The Prince and His Stolen Throne" (Book 2 in the series)

"The Mage and His Stolen Prince" is the third book in Ridge's "Stolen Groom" series, a queer comic romantic fantasy set in a distinctly whimsical magical land likely to appeal to fans of Terry Pratchett's Discworld, Piers Anthony's Xanth, and Terry Brooks's Landover, and especially those who are also fans of m/m spice. This installment picks up right where/when the previous book ended and also where it began, with Wilde's desperate decision to magically turn back time to the beginning of the novel's action to prevent his beloved Trey's death. Wilde's problem, of course, is that this means he and Trey never met or fell in love, nor did the royal offsprings' quest succeed in renewing the Desolated Lands' protective spell - so he must try to engineer a new iteration of events toward those same outcomes while keeping Trey safe. Inevitably, his plans never go smoothly and he keeps having to reboot time whenever things veer in dangerous directions, with increasingly chaotic results.

The result is a very tricky narrative told from multiple points of view. Ridge manages to keep on top of it, though at a certain point readers may decide to give up and trust that everything will work out without keeping all the details straight. (I kept thinking of Captain Janeway in Voyager: "Time travel. Ever since my first day in the job as a Starfleet Captain, I swore I'd never let myself get caught in one of these godforsaken paradoxes. The future is the past, the past is the future. It all gives me a headache.") Despite the narrative complexity, Wilde's growing desperation to control too many shifting variables in the name of love adds an effective emotional urgency and momentum. Ridge also gives the various royal offspring more satisfyingly complex inner lives than we suspected them capable of in Book #2.

This installment brings the story to a rewarding conclusion, though Ridge could certainly return to these characters again in the future -- or even to their children's doings if she wanted to leap ahead yet another generation. Well worth the read.

With thanks to the author/publisher for access to a digital ARC on Gay Romance Reviews. All opinions are very definitely my own.

** ARC REVIEW **

I did get this as an ARC, and I am happy to say that I took my time to work my way thought the winding and overlapping chapters that were created with Wilde’s time loop. I wanted to be sure I wasn’t missing anything, and found myself taking a break about half way through my reading to process and prepare for the second half of the story. I am so thrilled with how the story ended. I was, for the last couple of chapters, on the edge of my seat, nearly biting my nails because i was both anxious for the conclusion, and worried that it wouldn’t go according to Wilde’s plan.

Without further delay, my thoughts:

A twisting time loop of confusion and trying to get everyone to make the right choices.

Wilde’s sheer desperation for Trey to be alive and to love him created the pocket dimension, but his determination to see it though to the proper end, the one where Trey loves him, where they are happy keeps him going; even when his body is moments from collapse due to overextending himself and his magical abilities.
Trey’s brain fog, his deja vu as he and the others around him go about their days; his suspicion that there is something bigger at play, finally all starts to make sense once he literally shackles Wilde to himself, forcing the mage to rest.

Wilde may be an ‘evil mage’, but there is no doubt that his intention, while selfish, was pure. He just wanted to save the person he loved most in the world, wanted to provide him an opportunity to meet the requirements of the Kingdom Defense Spell while also keeping him safe, and hopefully, guiding him back on the path of falling in love.

I had to take my time reading this, I genuinely didn’t want to miss anything, or feel like I’d skipped over a chapter. Being lost in the ever shifting time bubble that Wilde created to bring Treasure back to life, and keep him close, has been an incredible journey.

Holy déjà vu Batman

This book follows on immediately from book 2 - The Prince and His Stolen Throne of which I am so grateful for because I needed Wilde back in my life.

I feel the spice was not as strong this book which I didn’t mind at all, I didn’t miss it because the moments where it built were *chefs kiss*

It’s hard to do a review without spoilers sooooo I’ll do my best!

Wilde still remains everything. I loved learning more about his past, seeing so much more of the story from his POV was fantastic for me.

I loved the sass and confusion from Treasure with the time loops and the super fun role reversal that takes place.

Delilah is an absolute Queen in this book and I love that furry kid hard.

I’ll be honest, in book two I didn’t really care much for Angelica - book three however - loved her immensely, maybe because she is a monster smut lover too! I loved her moments in this book and she didn’t grate on me like last time - we all love to hate some characters and I was ready to roll my eyes at her pompous ass but instead I chuckled to myself and had many yesssss queen moments!

Fitz and Maximus, such a fun pair of lads in their own ways, I do like the angst Maximus brings and the geek vibes Fitz gives off - their last scene, both men were perfectly flawed and showed such strength, it made my heart ache for them. Unrequited love is the pits.

I absolutely loved getting to see some action from Franny, Cyril and his glorious wife Lucinda (I really want to read her books!!) and it was so good to see the imps and minions back again… and again.

This series has firmly cemented itself into my comfort reads

This was good, confusing, but good. I loved the idea, but it was kind of hard for me to keep up, and even though the intermissions were amusing, it made it harder for me to get back on the flow. I think my main issue, and this is not a complain, it’s my weird brain, is the fact that some things are repeated, for obvious reasons, but the fact that they aren’t exactly the same kept throwing me for a loop. But it’s a good story. I think I’ll benefit from rereading it, being more aware of what’s going on, what’s meant to be, and how it’s meant to end. But my favorite thing isn’t the story itself, or the characters (that I have a hard time keeping track of, because I kept confusing them), but the idea that what we think it’s the right thing to do, might not be the right thing to do for everyone. What we think is good, might be seen as evil by someone else. Right and wrong are both completely black and white, and the gray areas, the nuances, the shifting perspectives is what makes this book such a good story. I loved the lengths that the characters will go to achieve their purposes, and how that affects them and others. That was my favorite part of the story. The love story is great, yes, but the reasons behind the actions are what made me think that maybe, just maybe, the characters that call themselves good in this book might be not so good after all. But you’ll have to read this book to find out for yourself. I’m going to reread it and see if I can keep better track of everyone, because the story is worth it.

It's Groundhog day in The Mage and His Stolen Prince, the third book in the Stolen Groom series. It's best to read this series in order. Stolen Prince is a retelling of book two The Prince and his Stolen Throne. Sort of. In a way. Wilder wants his HEA with his Trey, and will keep rewinding time to get it.
But as things get corrected, it changes not just the MCs' outcomes, but those of all the people around them. A bit confusing and certainly quite twisty. Adds to the story.
I liked the story well enough to download all three books. But I could have stopped after book one. I felt that the tone of the story changed, by quite a bit as the series progressed. Book one was slapsticky good fun, innocent in a way. From the introduction of Trey in book two's prologue and the quest, and that AWFUL cliffhanger, some of that fun was bled away. Book three was not quite a redeemer. It had an air of desperation in some places. And I would not have been happy with another cliffhanger.
So, mixed emotions about this book, good, bad or meh. There was a good/bad background plot arc in the story, about how motivations can be seen differently, situationally. Sorry, I was just there for the romance.
I received an advanced copy of this ebook from GRR and this is my review.

Five royal champions embark on a quest to defeat evil. The only problem is they feel as if they had done this before. Wilde is the apprentice of an evil wizard and he is determined to capture his prince, who is also a champion and appropriately named Treasure. If he has to reset time to get the outcome he wants, then he will so do as many times as are necessary.

Wilde and Trey are amazing together. You can’t help but fall in love with them. The other champions are equally as amazing. We have Delilah who craves to be something else, Angelica with her prissy attitude that hides a strong young woman, Fitz with his love of books and knowledge and, finally, tall and strong Max who is not sure about the world around him. They all come together and give us a story worthy of our keeper shelf. With the perfect combination of humor, danger and love, this series is one I shall read again and find something new each time.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Oh my God, this book was an absolute rollercoaster and I just couldn’t put it down.
I haven’t read a book that handles time warping quite like this one, and Ridge executed it so perfectly. I loved how we’d jump between “present” chapters with a consistent timeline and then pivot into alternate timelines or moments from the past. It kept the pacing intense and constantly had me on edge.
And don’t even get me started on the push and pull between Trey and Wilde! Not knowing whether they were truly endgame had me gasping through every chapter. The tension was so real, and it easily became one of my favorite parts of the entire book.
I also absolutely loved getting more of Wilde’s perspective this time around. Seeing how much he was willing to sacrifice for Trey had me fully in my feelings. His growth and determination stood in such contrast to the Wilde we met in the first book, and it made his POV's so interesting.

I am so obsessed with this series.

I thought this book would be heavier than the previous book and it both was and it wasn't. Ridge is so incredibly clever with their blend of humor and serious matters that neither one takes center stage and neither one feels forced. It is skillfully used for when it'll make the most impact and it makes it an impossible book to put down.

I understand I'm being fairly vague but this entire book is really a spoiler for book 1 and you do NOT want to be spoiled for book 1. I think there are plenty of issues that pop up when similar devices are used (so vague lol) but that was never the case here. The benefits and pitfalls were all explained and worked so so well.

I love Treasure and Wilde. I love that we got so much more Wilde in this one and truly know and understand him. The journey for their happiness is very long, but it is so rich and interesting and I honestly cannot wait to read them again.

Don’t mind me, I’ve just been sobbing over this amazing journey ending 😭😭

J.E. Ridge is such an incredible writer. The Mage and His Stolen Prince was so captivating and unique! I have never read a book filled with so much time manipulation before! It filled the book with tons of twists, mystery and excitement! With each reset of time, the characters changed and grew. It was so fun to read more from Wilde’s POV too, but Delilah’s POV is my favorite. She’s just the best. While this book will make you laugh, you’ll also be crying from heartbreak. Wilde has been through it and his journey to make Treasure his is full of tears, angst and longing. I loved getting to see Treasure fall for Wilde again, in a totally new way. I’m so sad our champions’ adventure is finished! I can’t wait to read more from this world though! I’d love a book about Delilah, Lucinda & Cyril and Fitz too!

The mage and the prince/the mage and the prince/the mage……….

This book could easily have been a huge mess as the mage Wilde tries again and again and again to rework time so things work out for him and Prince Trey. Luckily J.E. Ridge does a superb job at writing and rewriting this story. You really need to start reading with book one to get the full experience though. I enjoyed this series a lot because it’s so clever and as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking. You have to feel sorry for Wilde who is forced into a certain way of being just because of who he was born to.
The two main characters are great, but there are also so many marvelous side characters that just jump off the page and are begging for their own happy endings. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes their magic with a side of MM romance.

This book made me cry so much more than a rom-com should have!!!

Each and every character stands out and is memorable. And there are a ton of characters in this one! At times it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, I cried not only sad but even happy tears!

I was a huge fan of the previous 2 books and this one doesn't disappoint one bit! I loved it so much!!!! This series will always be on top of my recommendations..

Although the duology (book 2-3) can be read directly, I definitely recommend reading the first part first. There are a few callbacks that left me with a smile on my face, it definitely adds to the experience.

I'm always afraid of series endings, it's quite easy to mess up. But the ending to this duology was beyond perfection! I just don't know what else to say.

This was such a clever and emotional read. Going back to Trey and Wilde again was a real treat, and the time-reset element kept the story feeling fresh and unpredictable. Each change to the timeline adds new layers, and I loved seeing how the characters shifted and grew with every reset.

The story has plenty of twists and really pulls at your emotions, especially as Wilde becomes more determined to change how things end. It’s a unique take on time manipulation and romance that stands out from the usual fantasy tropes.

A strong addition to the series and definitely one I’d recommend, especially if you’ve read the earlier books.

This is the end of the series seemingly as no other couple has been introduced and this book ties up the love story between Trey and Wilde. We get a lot more of Wilde's POV so we can clearly see how much effort he's going to to save Trey. Trey feels drawn to him so strongly despite having no memory of who he is.

I liked that there was less alternative POVs and that we could focus on the MCs. And of course everything was tied up at the end but personally I felt their was quite a rush. 1 more chapter probably would have been the perfect balance.

I would recommend this to fans that like non-contemporary romantic comedies and don't mind low spice.

Wilde and Trey seize you from the very first page and refuse to let go, dragging you into a world steeped in magic, danger, and desire. Wilde has suffered deeply, and every step of his journey to claim Treasure is soaked in tears, raw angst, and unbearable longing. Trained as the apprentice to an evil wizard, Wilde is meant to be the villain of this story—but his heart has other plans. He is driven to capture his prince, a fierce champion whose strength matches his name: Treasure. What unfolds is a tumultuous, heart-wrenching struggle between darkness and devotion, where love becomes both a weakness and a rebellion.

I read this as an e-arc and all opinions are my own!

First things first, Wilde my ✨️beloved✨️!! I love him so much! His whole journey through the book was incredibly relatable! I would also do the same! In fact, all the characters were incredible! Fitz and Delilah were especially wonderful this book! But each and every character was relatable and enjoyable!

The timeloop storyline was one of the best that I've read! It was jarring to the characters, but understandable to the readers!

All in all, this was a fantastic ending to the trilogy!

Rounded for 4.25 stars. Good story, enjoyed it a lot. While these days I have a hard time finding stories I enjoy enough to finish, this book was difficult to put down. I admit I enjoyed the first part (The Prince and his stolen throne) more, but this book was very close second. I appreciate the storyline, the world building and the humor in this series. I liked all the characters, Delilah and Trey were awesome, Fritz and Angelica were pretty interesting and I loved Wilde, he was my favorite of all the characters. Overall this series made it to my top 5 reads in 2025.

I'm not a huge fan of time-travel stories, but I loved these characters and really wanted to see them get their HEA. This for me was time-travel done right. The author has made clever use of it to show us different aspects of the characters and the travels matter to these characters and their relationship. A wonderful series with a beautifully crafted finale.

Trey and Wilde

Wilde is SUPER POWERFUL. Though a dark wizard, he uses his powers for good - mostly. At least his own good.

Characters from the first book are back.

Time travel makes my head hurt.

If you haven’t read JE Ridge before, the Stolen Groom series is the perfect place to start. It’s one of my all-time favourites (and I say this as a die-hard contemporary MM fan). If you’ve read my other reviews for this series, you might recall me banging on a LOT about how accessible and enjoyable these books are even if fantasy isn’t usually your jam. The Mage and his Stolen Prince is no exception. It’s not easy to write a story that bends the rules of time, but JE absolutely nailed it.

After the events of Stolen Throne, Wilde attempts to recreate the same events that led to Trey falling in love with him by resetting time—to varying degrees of success. The result is usually hilarious, sometimes devastating, but always entertaining.

I enjoyed seeing how the events from book two played out differently as the characters grew more aware with each time reset, causing a butterfly effect when they didn’t behave as expected. It kept the story fresh and interesting even when events were repeating.

The traditional fairytale themes of good and evil are subverted, instead exploring morality in shades of grey. It was interesting to see how easily well-intentioned characters slipped into these grey areas when they felt it was necessary to achieve their goals. Morality is rarely black or white, and subverting expectations always makes for an entertaining reading experience.

I will forever be obsessed with Wilde and Trey’s unconventional love story. The yearning is just perfect, delivered in JE’s effortless but devastating style, and it’s just one of the many reasons why JE Ridge is one of my all-time favourite authors.

I received an arc from the author and I am posting my review VERY late, but unfortunately I am not a powerful mage and do not have the ability to create a pocket dimension and reset time…yet.

I received "The Mage and His Stolen Prince" as an ARC reader.

This novel (though book 3 of the series) is a direct continuation of the events of the second novel. The story follows Wilde as he tries to undo the mistakes of the past for the promise of a future. But there's a cost to his meddling, a price he might have to pay regardless of how many what ifs he avoids.

I adored this story. I love the themes and concepts introduced. I loved seeing how the characters met their fates and continued to grow. The humor was brilliant and the romance at the center of it all truly moved me. I am now a fan of J.E. Ridge and eagerly await more from the series.
