The novella is an engaging read with the central theme being the discovery of kinship, connection, feminine power, and magic.

The protagonists are 4 young women who find themselves for varying reasons in the witchy town of Salem, MA right before Halloween.

What follows is an entertaining and fun read. The four young women all have baggage and scars from life but they find strength in each other.

The plot takes you from their initial meeting with each other and quickly introduces the reader to the wonderful magical properties they share. Each woman has her own element and her own “magic keeper”. As the story unfolds, it hints at the coming crisis involving us all with climate change and political unrest. It doesn’t beat the reader over the head, but I definitely got the hint that the natural imbalance we can see in OUR world is going to be magically, fantastically addressed in coming books.

N.G. Avant does a good job of drawing you in and making you feel the despair of Mother Earth and gives hope that balance will be restored.

My only complaint is the use of slang. I am  in my 60’s and I had to look up multiple slang words I wasn’t familiar with. I’m all for learning new things but there were many words I don’t use, such as bussin’, gin, and no cap. Maybe the author could tone that down or give those words more context for those of us who don’t understand😉.

Overall, this was a good introduction to the upcoming installation in the series and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Thanks to Bookbub and N.G.Avant for the ARC.

I'm a sucker for old gods and lore/mythos, hidden powers, and strong & diverse FMC's--so the premise of this book immediately captured me! This prequel novella did what it intended to do, which is set up the world and briefly provide backstory for the FMC' of the upcoming story. While I do wish some more detail and backstory was included for the characters, for what this was, the story and connection between the 4 was great-- almost a believable real-life stranger to friendship story. My only real qualm was the language: Things like 'bet', 'no cap', and 'bussin' really took me out of the story. It seemed like the hyper-modernized slang language was just incredibly out of place, especially when some of the characters have very professional careers and the ages of the characters are beyond that of the 16-year-olds that use that common terminology. With some polishing & more realistic dialogue, this novella could really be the jumping off point that gets people excited for the coming series.

What a fun read. I really enjoyed this prequel and I am looking forward to reading more of this exciting new series. Jane (JJ), Maria, Gina and Arya are all drawn to Salem and what appears to be chance but quite quickly it appears to be their destiny to meet each other. The author has really done a good job at setting the scene of this witchy world.

This eARC was provided by Booksirens.com and I giving an unbiased review.

There have not been many times I have come across an author that puts out an 'origination' story prequel novella/novel before there are at least a couple books into the series. I am guessing at the request of the readers, to know how the characters came to be/meet/have powers, but it is what it is.

That being said, I am leery of reading this upcoming series. The premise of the storyline drew me in, and this being a prequel origination, I thought it might actually make me want to get the next book. Not so in this case.

It is a novella. I know it is going to be short, and depending on how the author feels, there may be too much room to write (without getting into their main storyline) or too little to include all they want to, so they have to "trim" corners. That is sort of how I felt about this one. Things started off well, explaining how these four women all happened to be in the same city at the same time. Then things went kaput for me.

The writing style seemed rushed in trying to get as much main details into this story, and the conversations felt like they were written in a hurry. How the characters all conveniently find out about this ancestral heritage/connection and the whole idea of being to have/use magic as just accepted way too easily. By the end of the book, they all have powers, they realize they are related in some shape or form, and again, conveniently, their powers tend to match their lifestyle/employment. Well, that one makes sense.

Overall, I felt the idea was wonderful, and I am still a bit curious about how they will be using their powers, against whom/what. It might be enough for me to check out the first book when it is released. Otherwise, I felt the writing was too quickly undertaken, with no depth to characters, background information, and the 'hidden' purpose behind why now of all times they have come together. I think young adults would enjoy this better than I will, as it seems to be written more to that genre.

"When narcissism, patriarchy, and greed reach their peak and Mother Earth begins to break, four shall arrive, separate, yet born on the same day. Marked by scorpions. Bound to the elements."

This novella is a magical and promising introduction to N.G. Avant's new feminist fantasy series. These brief 100 pages were fairly action packed and brimming with many of my favourite things: haunted houses, ghosts, witches, goddesses, seances, spirit guides, and magic!

When four young women cross paths for the first time in Salem, Massachusetts they soon discover that their fates are woven together. Jane, Arya, Maria, and Gina all carry heavy burdens of sorrow and loss, but find solace and solidarity in their newly-formed sisterhood. Their meeting sets in motion an ancient prophecy and awakens their elemental magic.

The prequel mainly introduces us to these four main characters and hints at their shared destiny, which will transform not only their own lives but the entire planet. It is time to undo the damage wrought by patriarchy, not by razing everything to the ground but through healing, restoration, and...time travel? Hell yeah! I'm here for it.

Each of the characters was likeable and relatable, and I look forward to seeing them embrace and develop their magic more fully as the Witchy Women series continues.

Many thanks to Book Sirens and N.G. Avant for providing me with an ARC of this novella. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Since this is Book 0 in the series, it is more like a character introduction than a fully developed fantasy tale. I gave it 3 stars: it’s okay, light fantasy rather than heavy fantasy, and the overall vibe actually reminded me of the magical sitcoms I watched as a kid.

⊹ ࣪ ˖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕
Opening with themes of Greek legend, witches and female awakening, the story instantly sparks curiosity.

The book brings together four women who share a major fate. A “female team” structure like this usually resonates with readers, especially when the characters come from very different backgrounds. However, in this case, their motivations feel rather shallow. It’s hard to believe they could accept their newfound magic so quickly without more conflict or explanation.

Using symbols like prophecy, astrology, and witches, the story takes us into a world of supernatural powers. Still, because Salem has been the backdrop for so many witch stories, breaking away from familiar images would need more pages and deeper world-building.

Nexus, a prequel novella to what looks to be an exciting new series. Jane (JJ), Maria, Gina and Arya are all drawn to Salem. When the four ladies find one another they are shocked to find so many similarities. They are the answer to an ancient prophecy and finding one another is only the beginning. It was a great short read, all four women are strong and interesting characters. I look forward to the new series, I did find a fair amount of typos though and I was not a fan of all the slang the women use, it might put some readers off.

Four women, strangers to each other, find themselves in Salem, Massachusetts, drawn by something they can't explain.
To their surprise, all four share the same birthday, as well as the same startling eyes, and the same bloodline. The women, cousins by birth, discover that they have a magical responsibility to save the world by the next Blue Moon.
This is a great beginning to a new series, and I can't wait to read the next book! The women's “magic keepers” are wonderful and the magic that each woman discovers within herself makes me want to keep reading!
I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and I am excited to leave this voluntary review!

All I can say is "WOW"! This is an incredible story written by an outstanding storyteller. 4 women end up in Salem during Halloween week. They have the same golden eyes but have never met before. Each is in a different profession. Jane works at the Salem witch house, Gina sculpts metal into figures from Greek mythology, Arya works in genetics and Maria is a medical resident here for a medical conference. I don't want to spoil anything for you. You have to read it. If I could give it 10 stars, I would. I haven't been this touched by a story in more years than I can remember. I'd love to talk to the author.

N. G. Avant does an amazing job in writing this and making the reader engaged with the world and characters. I enjoyed this as a concept for the Witchy Women world and had that prequel element that I was looking for. The characters were unique and was invested in how the overall prophecy was done. I'm excited to read more in this world and loved the characters in this. It was a great short read and am excited for the official first entry in this series.

What a great read! I’m not surprised though as the author has impressed me before. This story set in Salem is about 4 women who come together seemingly by accident but it turns out they are related and destined to save the world by taking down the patriarchy at its core, thus allowing matriarchy to take its place. Such an amazing concept and as a feminist, this was refreshing to read. Through magic and time travel, can these women make the necessary changes? I hope so and I wish it were real life! Looking forward to the next instalment because I have to know how their quest will go.
