It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either, it’s like one of those pass the time novels. I couldn’t really connect with either of the characters cus not much was shared. Like I miss when authors introduced us to folks lol like can we get a bday or a sign or something to forge our connection. The conflicts were easily resolved and I just feel like the angst that caused them to separate was HUGE but kinda got played off a bit too quick for me. This just wasn’t the best display of KC’s talent. Also if this is like the intro book to a series or whatever I expect more details about the location. Like welcome to D-Ville lmao but all I know is them boys knocked down the walls to make project penthouses lmao but that’s it.

Mid. This was a quick read though. I will say Yahzi folded in just a few minutes like girl you could have kept them 3 years.

Thug Love

Man, send me a Suleem I promise to be good. I think I'm ready for that possessive protective love. Yahzi was that girl.

I’ma be real… I was disappointed in this one. I love urban romance, and normally a KC Mills book hits—but this premise didn’t land the same. And on top of that, it felt oddly familiar. Now, I do believe sometimes ideas are just floating in the atmosphere 👀 so maybe that’s what happened here… but still, nothing about Suleem or Yahzi stood out to me.

There wasn’t much conflict, just a story I’ve basically seen before told in an not all-the-way engaging way. I know this is part of a novella series from a publisher, so hopefully the other installments hit better.

⭐️⭐️💫 (0.5/5)

This was my first read by this author, and unfortunately, this book was not as good as it could've been for me. A major turn-off is it seems like a badly executed copy of another book - the MMC creating a gang with his project crew, him remodeling the top floor of the project building he lived in, his presence in the community and changing his image while keeping his ties to his gang life, even the separation between him and the love of his life because she needed time away from him - read it before. There is no climax to the story, and there's no real character development.

I liked Suleem - he was giving major BDE. I even liked Yahzi, but it would've been a better story had we gotten more about their past relationship. There could've been flashbacks to show how they started/grew/fell apart. We pick up 3 years later, and the story reads as if it's 3 weeks later as there isn't any real rekindling. Yahzi calls Suleem to help her out of a situation, he shows up to help, and then it's just a bunch of "you're home, you're not going anywhere again." Seeing their growth prior to separating would've added to the story and helped show why their love was so strong after being apart for 3 years.

I would've loved to see some actual conflict and resolution. For instance, the situation with Yahzi's ex, Dex, could've been better executed and it could've been the climax. When Suleem met up with him, my reaction was "well that was uneventful." And there was still half the book left, so I was wondering, "where do we go from here?" Yahzi could've even had some run-ins with the women from Suleem's life while she was away to add a little drama/chaos to the story.

3.5⭐️ and 2.5🌶️
I love when KC Mills is in her urban fiction bag. Don’t get me wrong, I will yap to you for hours on why Shadows and Whispers is a 5 ⭐️ for me and you’ll probably be tired of me by the end of the conversation LOL 🥴😂

Suleem and Yahzi were cute. I felt their strong history, I just wanted to feel their present vibe just as much. Honestly, I could read a prequel on them because that backstory was interesting too!

But this second chance romance will still have you swooning AND curious of what else is happening in D-Ville and I can’t wait to read the other books in the series! 🤍

3.5 🌟?

Suleem and Yahsir’s romance was a second-chance romance. Usually not a fan of those tropes, but I did enjoy this. I would say that most of the conflict, including how they come back together, occurs early in the book, so the second half felt very easy-going/a bit flat. I suppose I was expecting a bit more, but I still enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this series.

Welcome to DVille Projects !!

Who don’t love a reformed unhinged MMC.. well that’s what we thought 😂
My boy went from pow pow to owning his own shop! My girl said she couldn’t take no more pow pow and left and fulfilled a career in cutting hair , but it only took one call!

A second chance at love that’s all my boy needed. You call he’s coming to get you and that was it no questions he’s pulling up!!

The energy Leem was applying my girl couldn’t do nothing but come when he pulled up.

I love me unhinged MMC that don’t play about their woman and this all of Suleem!! We love it in DVille Projects!!

This was a cute little read. There wasn’t any drama between the couple and only a couple of minor inconveniences. Suleem was a gangsta through and through that didn’t play about his Yahzi, and made sure that everyone knew she was his. There’s a lot of talk about how much he’s grown in the time they were apart and how she had to heal while apart but I do wish we saw some of that through flashbacks or something. At any rate if you love a protective MMC with BDE, and a couple that has good banter. This is the book for you.

This is my fave read so far by KC Mills. I need more hood love urban like this, KC!!!

“I fucked enough women to know none of them would ever be you. I also never gave them anything but a nut. I get that you had every right to live your life but trust and believe, I’m not okay with that shit if you let that nigga have access to anything other than what I was giving these women. If I find out you did, my body count will be increasing. Unless you want that on your heart, keep that shit to yourself. And you’re right about that slick shit you said but not in the way you meant it. You don’t fit in my world because you are my world. Now act like you know what the fuck this is.”

K.C. Mills Knows Love!!

This story was raw but real. As always, K.C. stays true to her characters. Leem and Yah were what a couple is supposed to be when it comes to their environment. I love how K.C. showed how they evolved before, during, and after the breakup. I also love how there was a balance of just the right amount of romance and street. I definitely recommend getting to know Suleem and Yahzi!!

And when you “spin the block” THIS is how you move forward.

Soooo much happened with these two. So it was refreshing to see them push past it and do whatever it took to make to work.

Leem played ZERO games about Yah! I loved the family/friend dynamic in this book. And honestly before we got introduced to Leem. I was scared for my girls safety. It all worked out in the end.

Saleem & Yahzi

Way to come out of the gate swinging for this series. I thoroughly enjoyed this storyline. No drama between the two of them in their relationship it was just outside noises that put her safety at risk. I like how he let her go and grew as a man before he brought her back home. Saleem is a good man, Savanah!

Now THIS book was TEA!!! 🍵🔥 I loved it from start to finish..like, literally loved everything about it!!! Honestly, I’m not even surprised because KC never misses. 💅🏽

This one was a little different from her usual contemporary romance, but baby… I was ABSOLUTELY here for it.🤭🤗

Not only did it start off lit, it never died down. I ignored everybody and everything until I finished this book because I just could not put it down. 🤷🏽‍♀️

The SPICE was most definitely giving! 🥵🔥

Like… yes honey... SPICYYYYYY🔥

And let’s be very clear…I’ve added a new book bae to my roster because Bank is THAT man. 😏💀

My only focus was turning those pages because I could not get enough. Even though it was a short read, it was a GOOD read and now I’m running to book two like a fiend. 📚🏃🏽‍♀️💨😩🤣

10000/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND

✨ Book Review✨

I loved this shit right here! KC is in her urban bag and I couldn’t be more excited. This one had me grinning, gasping, and kicking my feet like I was Yahzi myself.

So boom—Yahzi’s a talented barber who just ended her lil’ relationship with that punk-ass Dex after finding out he was gang-affiliated. See, Yah made a promise to never date another man in that lifestyle after it nearly cost her everything. Three years later, she’s kept her distance and stayed low. But when a lame don’t know how to take no for an answer, and he shows up where he ain’t welcome? You call the one man who never let you down. But there’s one catch: you gotta come HOME.

And baybeee… when Suleem pulled up? That man came solo dolo and stood on BIG BUSINESS about his woman!! We love a man who keeps his word 👏🏾👏🏾. The way he pulled up to her spot without an address like, “Don’t play with me, you know I’m tapped in,” had me ready to throw this Kindle across the room! 😂

Yahzi and Suleem’s chemistry was unmatched. That home they found in each other? That mutual loyalty? Whew. The tension, the emotion, the longing — it all hit.

And that ending? Pure satisfaction. No crumbs left. Just full-course love.

If you’re into wild, unhinged, overprotective, possessive (in the healthiest way), gun-totin’, rich, 6-foot-plus, fine-ass Black men who do not play when it comes to theirs — then babyyyy this one’s for you 😮‍💨👏🏾.

I’m starting to be a second chance romance girlie cause baby the way Leem told Yah that if she called “she better be ready to come home”. Okay sir!!!! And y’all he meant exactly that LOL. Yah fought herself hard knowing that her and Leem were two souls tied to each other. Imagine moving away for three years and leaving the man you love so you could heal and he could grow.

They say if you love someone one let them go, and if they come back it’s meant to be. This couldn’t be more true for Leem and Yah. It was the moves behind the scenes that Leem was doing that Yah knew nothing about. That did it for me!! As crazy as Leem is and was about Yah, he loved her hard and strong. I truly enjoyed watching their story unfold and them realizing it was always each other.

This story was penned gritty and beautifully. He’s hard, she’s soft. He’s chaos and she’s calm. Thank you Mrs. Mills!!!!! Loved it!!!!

loved!!!!

Somehow I overlooked this read😳🥹

I knew I wanted to circle back AND I am so glad I did!
——
Plot/storyline: second chance romance/return to home kinda vibe🫣
Chemistry: amazing. the way the MMC anticipates our FMCs needs/wants🥰
spice: SSA grabs and neck kisses- WHEW the warmup🥵🥵🌶️🌶️🌶️
Drama: mild.
——
I mentioned it earlier but I loved the way our MMC anticipated the FMC’s needs and desires.

From the least to greatest- he was ready🥰

I love that it was written in such a way that it felt natural.

It wasn’t over-the-top (we love that too!).

However, that subtlety just gave a greater “realism” to this story.

I ate that up like sweet potato pie!

Amazing set up for the rest of the D-Ville Projects books!

Do check your trigger warnings AKA “note to reader”.

Definitely recommend this read and continuing on with the series.

Welcome Home…I Guess🤷🏾‍♀️⁉️

Hmmm 🤔, although Crescent Falls had been a safe haven including provided gainfully employment as a barber for three years, Yahzi didn’t feel obligated to formally sever ties to that former life🥴⁉️Rude & unprofessional‼️ Meanwhile, I guess welcome home …or back home Yahzi to D’Ville⁉️ However, there was nothing to refer to or refute about S&Y & or D’ville Ms. Mills 🤷🏾‍♀️🤭‼️…It’s your pen!…your world!…your rules‼️”Suleem & Yahzi (D-Ville Projects - Book 1)” was a mediocre read. Unfortunately, this second chance urban romance was just ordinary (3.75 ⭐️’s).🥴‼️

Leem & Yah ❤️

Everything I knew it would be 🔥 We have Suleem who is straight hood and hardcore but Yah brings out his softer side and I loved the way he was with her. Then we have my girl, Yahzi who walked away from the life she shared with Leem but one call three years later and he was at her doorstep standing on big business. That man didn’t play about sis. I loved the growth and maturity of both characters. Leem loved her enough to let her go but when she needed him he was there and the two of them were back like they never left ❤️

That 🐐 has once again delivered another banger 🔥 🖊️ 📚 👏🏾

Suleem and Yahzi (D-Ville Projects Book 1)

This series has started out great! K.C. Mills never misses.

Suleem is so good and I love that about him. He is who he is and makes no excuses. He is a manly man who loves hard and protects even harder.

He knew he messed up three years ago with Yahzi. He gave her time and got himself together. Once she called for help, he knew they were back together. I enjoyed their journey and the love they had for each other.

Great beginning to the series.

We all knew that once Yahzi made that call, that she was ready to go back home. I knew it, Suleem knew it, and she knew it. That's exactly why when he showed up, she didn't give much pushback. She said "I'll see you in the car" just like she should have.

Obviously, she knew that he was still her safe space. When she ran into an issue that she wasn't able to handle on her own, he was at the top of her list for someone to come rescue her. I don't even think she thought to call anyone else.

They clearly needed the time away from one another so they could come back together stronger than ever. I was surely cheesing and kicking my feet together while reading this one.

Good read

This book had me smiling at unsuspected times. The way Ms. Mills creates these alpha males that have all of this BDE but are so in touch with their softer sides is incredible. You could not have gotten more gangsta than Suleem but his heart was all.on his sleeve when it came to Yahtzi. I'm so glad that Ms. Mills didn't make her stubborn and run in.the opposite direction just to prove a point. Awesome urban read.

This was such a beautiful 2nd chance book!!!…

His heartbeat

I loved the hood love of Suleem and Yahzi. He was just one call away and dropped everything when that call came. He stood on business when he arrived. My heart was happy.

Yahzi had the chats buzzing. The mystery girl that had all the heads turning. Bless their heart because she owned his.

This was cute from beginning to end.

Suleem is exactly who he thinks he is......

That man was NOT playing about Yahzi, like at all! We love a man that knows exactly who and what he wants and will do whatever it takes to get her and keep her because leaving him is not an option. Yahzi had not choice but to fold like landry. K.C. I cannot wait for whatever you have next sis.

Second chance at love

This was a sweet read. Suleem and Yahzi were brought back into one another’s orbit under ironic circumstances once you learn why they separated. That aside, the way Leem affirmed and protected Yahzi was beautiful. My girl didn’t have to question much because that man loved her down. I’m glad they got their second chance.

Loved it!!!

I loved it!!!! It was short, steamy, and to the point. The FMC and MMC did not do a bunch of back and forth. Simple plot. If you call me, be ready to come home.👏👏👏. Suleem DID NOT play about that call😂😂. He dropped EVERYTHING and got right to Yahzi. That was it. Loved it!!!!!

if you call, I’m there.

This was a cute second chance romance of allowing distance to heal what led to the separation. Yah knew that once she made that call, she was ready to return ‘home’. What Suleem did for Yah despite them being a part regarding Yah’s mom- was selfless and showed that no matter what, his love was/is endless for Yah.
