2090 Solar States. Il libro inizia con un processo: Nevada Vasquez accusa l’ex CEO di Omnitech di crimini contro la criminalità. Passa del tempo e mentre il team di Nevada e questo ex CEO stanno andando in tribunale per accordarsi sulla pena, il veicolo viene bombardato. Arriva un'ambulanza: alcune persone morte, Nevada ed altri due vengono portati in un laboratorio e subiscono delle operazioni non autorizzate.
Nevada che era una “Natural” ora si trova con un braccio bionico, è un po’ più alta e ha la vista potenziata (le hanno impiantato delle telecamere). Nevada si convince che Maverock (parente dell'ex CEO di Omnitech) abbia attentato alla sua vita; quando Himari si mette in contatto con lei dichiarando Maverock come nemico comune, Nevada non ci pensa troppo. Insieme vanno a New Dallas per vendicarsi.
Romanzo sci-fi, in una società dove è stato abolito il capitalismo, sono tornati al socialismo, non si usano i soldi, sono estinte le zanzare (!), Solar States sono gli USA. E New Dallas è una specie di mega grotta sotto gli USA dove sono andati quelli che non volevano lo Stato sociale.
La storia è molto slow paced. L’autore mentre racconta la storia si interrompe per spiegarci rapporti tra personaggi, world building, geopolitica, scienza etc. E per questo, la storia risulta lenta e pesante (questo libro sono 500 pagine).
Nonostante molti dettagli non mi erano chiari lo scorrere del tempo, a volte il cambio di punto di vista o di situazione, ad esempio il capitolo partiva con la spiegazione di qualcosa e poi improvvisamente c’era un combattimento. Altra cosa non chiara, come sta su New Dallas?
Ci sono anche tematiche che ho trovato interessanti: l’identificazione dei robot, AI e il loro rapporto con il genere umano. Avrei voluto qualche dettaglio in più del punto di vista politico.
Parti preferita: il team di tre personaggi femminili: Nevada, Himari che è un clone e Sunshine, che a dispetto del nome è un robot che parte con lo scopo di fare fuori cose e terminarne altre senza subire sanzioni.

2090 Solar States. The book begins with a trial: Nevada Vasquez accuses the former CEO of Omnitech of crimes against humanity. Time passes, and while Nevada's team and the former CEO are on their way to court to agree on the sentence, their vehicle is bombed. An ambulance arrives: some people are dead; Nevada and two others are taken to a laboratory and undergo unauthorized operations.
Nevada, who was a “Natural,” now has a bionic arm, is a little taller, and has enhanced vision (they implanted cameras in her). Nevada becomes convinced that Maverock (a relative of the former CEO of Omnitech) attempted to take her life; when Himari contacts her and declares Maverock their common enemy, Nevada doesn't think twice. Together they go to New Dallas to seek revenge.
A sci-fi novel set in a society where capitalism has been abolished, socialism has returned, money is no longer used, mosquitoes are extinct (!), and the Solar States are the USA. New Dallas is a kind of mega-cave under the USA where those who did not want the social state have gone.
The story is very slow-paced. While telling the story, the author interrupts to explain the relationships between characters, world building, geopolitics, science, etc. Because of this, the story feels slow and heavy (this book is 500 pages long).
Although many details were unclear to me, such as the passage of time and sometimes the change of perspective or situation, for example, the chapter would start with an explanation of something, and then suddenly there would be a fight. Another thing that was unclear was how it is in New Dallas.
There are also themes that I found intriguing: the identification of robots and AI and their relationship with humankind. I would have liked a few more details on the political point of view.
Favorite parts: the team of three female characters: Nevada, Himari, who is a clone, and Sunshine, who, despite her name, is a robot who sets out with the aim of destroying things and ending others without suffering sanctions.
