Rate this book
Searching for the truth about her mother's abandonment, Monroe is about to discover more than she bargained for… Guarded and misunderstood, Monroe Connors blames her mother for everything wrong in her life. Her promiscuous nature has left more than a trail of broken hearts behind her- it has left her lonely. All she wants is to be loved. In her mind, destroying the one person who has hurt her most is all she needs to warm her cold heart. As she digs deeper and uncovers the reasons her mother left, Monroe realizes the person she set-out to destroy might be the only one who can save her life. Working closely with FBI Agent Dominick Brown, Monroe finds exactly what she’s looking for –love. Will their romance end before it even starts? This is the question that haunts Dominick as he fights for the woman he loves. Maxwell Connors has not been the best father; in fact, he is sometimes cruel. Monroe reminds him of the only woman he ever truly loved; the woman who left him to raise a teenage daughter. Thinking the memory of Melissa would stay buried in the past, Maxwell is shocked to learn Monroe is hell-bent on finding her. He uses his power to try to prevent this mother-daughter reunion from happening, but soon realizes Monroe won’t give up. Monroe not only finds her mother, but also uncovers a secret worth killing for. Maxwell is well aware of the danger Monroe is in, but his bitterness for her mother is too powerful. The love for his daughter is tested as Monroe's life hangs in the balance. Will he come to her rescue? Or, will his hatred for the one who left him prove stronger than the will to save his only daughter?

My first time reading a book from this author and I wasn't disappointed. She kept my attention with the development of the storyline and characters. This was like a suspense/crime novel. Good read

Monroe is an identity thief, stealing the identities of people who ,she thinks, deserve it. It's her hobby. With the help of her friend, Lance, who gathered the information for her, she embarks on a journey to destroy her mother . She doesn't understand how her mother could leave her with her father when she was just twelve years old. The man was emotionally abusive to her, forced her into a career she didn't want, and kept track of her.

She met Dominick while working out at the gym in her apartment building. She didn't know he was FBI nor did she know he was tracking her at the behest of his boss and former lover, Cheryl. Dominick didn't know why he was assigned to such a lame case that the local police could handle. It was irritating to him, but he soon found Monroe to be more than just another criminal.

Lance strongly advised Monroe not to seek out her mother. The woman had changed her name and was obviously living a new life that did not include her daughter. There was a reason for that and it all vaulted into an intense drama with a whole lot of action and a few surprises.

I liked this book. I liked the story, the quick pace, and the characters. The reason I didn't give it five stars is because it needs another trip to the editor. Some words were misused (latter instead of ladder, for example) and it needed a bit more punctuation in places. Once those problems are rectified, this is an easy 5-star novel.

Powerful Men

This was a good novel. I like the plot but there was some questions that wasn’t answer. Also, some of the time line didn’t match up but that could be easily fix.

Headline: Who Am I?

From City to City we read and hear many stories of parents for whatever reason who left their children in the hands of others. Most times when I hear about abandoned children those same children have a passion to find out WHY. I’m not even sure if they really want to be part of their parents’ life as much as knowing WHY.

Monroe Connor attributes all the bad in her life to her mother who aandoned her at an early age; thirteen I believe. The reason why she can’t love, not being able to have a long term relationship and her trust issues all roll into the question surrounding her mother’s departure: WHY. While reading Monroe’s story sometimes it felt like she was telling us if only I could find out why my mother left me every wrong thing in my life will be made right.

Monroe begins a quest to find her mother against her dad’s wishes. But finding her mom could put her mother and others in danger. A danger that Monroe has no idea is following her until the phone rings and she walks into the darkness where danger waits.

Abandoned Secrets was a good read, I was able to jump into the story meet the characters and care for them and their issues quicker than expected.
