Cross Your Mind: A sweet and spicy, opposites attract, celebrity romance set in London

Rate this book
Nancy Cooper lives in a tower block in the heart of London, struggling to make ends meet. When she gets a call for a last-minute graduate position, she’s propelled into a privileged world she has only glimpsed through the window. But what Nancy finds there isn’t what she expected.

Meanwhile, Lord Alexander Toverton lives just up the street in the lap of luxury. Yet, for all his wealth, he is far from happy. Trapped in a toxic relationship with a woman his parents plan for him to marry, all Alex wants is to carve his own path outside of the confines of tradition and expectation. If only he’d realised sooner that what he was looking for was hidden in plain sight.

When the pair cross paths at the office, there’s instant attraction, but the secrets from the past are never far behind, ready to wreak havoc on their budding romance. As tensions build and reality bites, the two must learn to trust one another. Easier said than done in a digital age where privacy is the biggest fiction and influence determines the truth.

Tropes:
Class Difference, He falls first, Attraction/Love at First Glance, Mental Health Issues, Dysfunctional Family, Mention of Previous SA, Childhood Trauma, Workplace Romance, Unhinged Ex, Found Family
Cross Your Mind by Natalie Morgan is the first installment in a three-part series. The story is set in the UK and features a working-class young lady who gets involved with an aristocrat.
Nancy Cooper has been given a golden opportunity when she scores a job at a prestigious firm. She is a product of the projects and has an excellent work ethic and sees her new position as an unexpected blessing. Lord Alexander (Alex) Toverton is the heir to a duchy and lives an elegantly lavish existence. One would think that he couldn’t be happier; however, nothing is further from the truth. He has an almost adversarial relationship with his father, his mother self-medicates to deal with the pain of her awful marriage, and Alex is being coerced (low-key forced) to marry Mimi (a suitable woman) who is abusive and controlling. It is no wonder that when he meets Nancy on the first day at her new job that his heart is captivated by her joy and goodness. He is immediately smitten and clandestinely tries to learn everything he can about her. Nancy notices Alex but is determined to keep their interactions professional. But can she hold on to her resolve in the face of Alex’s unrelenting pursuit and has Mimi really accepted that her hold on Alex has been broken, for good?
Conclusion:
I really enjoyed this captivating story of two people from vastly different backgrounds but with similar broken places and issues with trauma. We are reminded that money can’t buy happiness or peace of mind. Alex was selfless but sometimes not perspective about the emotional cost of living in the spotlight. To his credit, he sensed that Nancy was grappling with some life altering trauma and tried to support her to the best of his ability. Nancy also tried to be an oasis for Alex amid the busyness of his hectic life. I also appreciated that the characters in the story are diverse with multicultural backgrounds. The story ended on a “happy for now” note but I imagine that readers will learn more about the person behind Nancy’s assault as well as how will she fit in his family’s rarefied lifestyle. Book two is expected in the Summer of 2026 and I look forward to the next installment!
Favorite Lines:
It turned out his eldest daughter had just graduated too and was struggling to land her first job with the economy the way it was.
He gave me an apologetic smile so charming it could’ve stopped traffic.
The audience erupted in applause as I came with a resigned sigh.
“It’s about trust. It’s about chemistry. Neither of which we have.”
My life was at the opposite end of the spectrum from the so-called ‘duke’s heir’—silver-spooned, playboy, tech bro all wrapped in one giant red flag.
It was so classic, like something from a Jane Austen novel.
This was the last step before asking her out, and it had fallen completely flat.
The sudden change in intensity stripped my breath, but damn, for all the hype about a first kiss, this was worth the twenty-two-year wait.
“I’m her good friend too—her boyfriend—and I would never hurt her. She’s special to me.”
Where another’s hands had stolen her confidence, they had scarred me with distrust and anger.
Perhaps it’s a class thing, but I, as a woman, would expect to have a choice.”
I paused. “What do you feel like when you ride your motorcycle?” “Free, powerful, excited. Because I control it.”
The kiss went on as if breaking it would break him.

ARC Review:

My Ratings: 4.5 stars

Cross Your Mind is the first book in the Little x Trilogy, and what an incredible start it is!

The story follows Nancy, a determined young woman making ends meet in London, and Lord Alexander Toverton, a man born into privilege yet yearning for something real. When their paths cross at work, their worlds collide — love, ambition, and secrets intertwine against the vivid backdrop of modern London.

I loved how Nancy stood her ground throughout the story. She’s strong, loyal to her mother, and never lets anyone belittle her. Alex, on the other hand, is such a layered character — a man who hides a tender heart beneath his polished exterior. Their chemistry is electric yet emotional, and watching them navigate love, trust, and vulnerability felt deeply rewarding.

The side characters add so much texture — from Evan, Alex’s ever-watchful bodyguard, to Mimi, a truly compelling antagonist who took me by surprise. The author’s writing style transported me right back to London; I could practically see Tower Bridge and feel the city’s heartbeat during that unforgettable dance scene.

What stood out most is how Natalie sensitively portrayed difficult topics like trauma, anxiety, and abuse with grace and empathy. The pacing is smooth, the alternating POVs make both leads relatable, and yes — the spice is unapologetically bold yet meaningful.

A beautifully written, emotional, and steamy romance that lingers long after the last page.

Can’t wait for book two in this trilogy!

When Nancy lands her dream job the last thing she expected was catching the eye of the Duke's heir. When Alexander first sees Nancy, he is instantly intrigued. Nancy tries to keep things professional at first, but Alex knows what he wants, and he wants her. There's only one issue, Mimi, Alex's ex. She will stop at nothing to keep the two apart. Can Nancy learn to trust Alex and fit into his glamorous world? Or will Mimi be able to keep the pair apart?

Nancy and Alex had a fast burning romance. The pair had little in common but made their relationship work. At times, I thought Alex could be a bit pretentious, but overall, he redeemed himself. Sometimes, it was a little hard to understand the banter between the characters with the British slang, but I still enjoyed it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Definitely one to add to your TBR.

This book had a little bit of almost everything. We have our main couple who at first glance would be considered completely wrong for each other. We have Alex a buttoned up aristocrat who falls in insta-love with our curvy girl Nancy. Both main characters have pain in their past that causes them to be cautious but as those walls are torn down we see two people that complete each other in a way that we all look for. I loved that we got to see Nancy open up about what happened to her in the past.

Now to delve into all these side characters that are a book all on their own. OMG William and Kim may be one of the cutest blind date couple ever. Another insanely cute blind date couple is Ayesha and the doc. I can't wait to see what the next book has in store for us regarding all these great couples.

Cross Your Mind is a modern love story steeped in class contrast and emotional survival. Nancy, a working-class graduate thrust into the sleek corporate world of Toverton PLC, and Alex, its controlled CEO, build an unlikely connection that unfolds with sharp sexual tension and careful emotional pacing. Morgan’s London setting is vivid, grounding the romance in a believable rhythm of work emails, coffee runs, and late-night vulnerability. The novel shines when it explores intimacy as healing—desire shaped by trauma and trust. A few plot turns feel indulgently cinematic, and the CEO-meets-graduate trope flirts with fantasy, but the dialogue crackles and the emotional arcs are genuine. Morgan’s prose has wit, compassion, and a tenderness rare in debut romances.

Sweet story depicting the tale of two people from completely different worlds finding solace in one another as they face both ordinary and extraordinary challenges with their budding relationship. Alex and Nancy’s story is endearing being that both face significant hurdles they must overcome to fully experience the safety and happiness together. Their journey is full of ups and downs, more so than the average couple with Alex’s high-profile status and reporters at every corner. Sweet read with twists and turns that will leave you guessing what happens next.

I absolutely loved this book! The characters were written so vividly I could picture them easily. Alongside the brilliant main duo, Nancy & Alex, were some unforgettable side characters (looking at you, William, Tracy & Evan 👀), plus a couple of love-to-hate villains — all woven beautifully into the vibrant backdrop of London, England.

Nancy was such a standout FMC — sassy, vulnerable, strong, and beautifully real. Her banter and chemistry with Alex had me smiling and cheering them on through every twist and obstacle.

The emotional unraveling of their past traumas and the way they learned to trust each other truly tugged at my heartstrings and I really appreciated how Natalie Morgan approached tough subjects with sensitivity and care — it added so much authenticity to the story.

Now I’m counting down the days until Cross Your Heart drops — I need more of these characters in my life!

What a great story! Not your traditional rich CEO trope. With royalty vs commoner vibes, it drew me in right away! Great love story with lots of twists and a HEA.
