A “philanthropist” arrives at Yellowstone with the cure to a global helium managed venting, precision valves, and a camera crew to sell the miracle. When those valves turn out to be detonators and the miracle is really a market play, Harvey “Ben” Bennett and the Civilian Special Operations team are dragged back to the place where his story began—into blinding steam, trench-cold wind, and a ticking clock buried under the world’s most dangerous caldera.
With Juliette coordinating from their Alaska HQ, Reggie running and gunning in the snow, and a stolen lab routine threatening to punch new holes in the basin, Ben has to hold the pressure steady and rip the mask off a savior who engineered the crisis he’s “solving.” The key to blowing it wide open isn’t a weapon—it’s a confession. A trail of shell companies, and proof that could shake D.C. before the ground does.
From knife-edge helicopter extractions to midnight gunfights beside hissing vents, The Yellowstone Gambit delivers breakneck action, big-idea stakes, and a conspiracy that turns charity into a weapon. If Ben can’t shut it down, Yellowstone won’t be the only thing that blows.

The Yellowstone Gambit, Nick Thacker's latest Harvey Bennett Thriller is a mega movie waiting to be made. More action, corporate greed, black ops, and cyber hacking happen in this 200-page novella than in most full-length books.
Ben and Reggie are sent into Yellowstone after hearing of illicit drilling for Helium around the North Side Geysers. What they find is not only criminal but stupid and dangerous to everyone in a tri-state area.
Like action movies? The Yellowstone Gambit is all of the Lethal Weapon series plus the entire Die Hard franchise put together. I was shaking in my boots as Julie remotely guided Ben, Reggie, and all of their cohorts to deprogram the Hartmann company goons' setup before the geysers blew up.
I regularly read and recommend Nick Thacker's books, he's a fabulous writer. This time, he has outdone himself. If you don't buy another thriller this year, get The Yellowstone Gambit. And hope to see the movie when it comes out.
Ben and company are up against something much bigger than terrorists with weapons. If you've been concerned about the potentially explosive geology of Yellowstone or the future impacts of drilling and fracking, you must read this. It's got great action and you might just learn something. Something that will keep you up at night.
Great read with that team as always. Feels like they need some more team members but the temporary ones are fine. My only issue was even the Explain-to-Reggie wordings were a bit too filled with jargon. My brain refuses to not read the words even though it is a smorgasbord of jargon. 4 solid stars.
Nick Thacker doing what he does best. Punchy, heartpounding, fast-paced, eco-techno-action thriller with a warning for society and democracy. Some dodgy metaphors and similes, but when they work they raise a laugh.
I haven’t read a Harvey Bennett book in several years because the plots were so predictable. I decided to try this one because it was about Yellowstone. It turned out to be a highly technical short story; quite boring.
Was a fascinating and fun adventure with intrigue suspense, all done with flair and finesse wonderful read others should take the chance to read this author. Really knows how to draw you in and keep you turning the pages.
Great action packed from beginning to end and the characters are reacting as I am used to them doing without hesitation. Loved it and could not put it down once started.
This book, like the rest of the Harvey Bennett series, does not disappoint. A wonderful thriller, lots of action and suspense, interesting characters, all wrapped in a simple but intriguing plot.
