Coding Techniques: An Introduction to Compression and Error Control

Rate this book
Coding An Introduction to Compression and Error Control provides a unique collation of compression, transmission, and error control coding techniques. At the start of the 21st century these techniques have matured into complex signal compression algorithms, such as MPEG video coding, and into complex error correction algorithms as found in Turbo codes.
Coding techniques are in widespread use, from the simple methods found in facsimile and Teletext, to lossless and lossy file storage on disk, to low bit rate videophones, to JPEG, JBIG, and wavelet image compression. They are also found in digital recording, CELP speech coders for personal communications, video watermarking, radio data systems, and coding for deep space transmission from satellites. This book provides the theoretical basis for these and similar coding techniques.

· Highly readable introduction to the complex subject of coding
· An uncluttered mathematical approach
· Comprehensively illustrated with 119 examples and 194 diagrams
· One of the few books to cover both compression and error control

This new textbook commences at a fundamental level, and covers most compression and coding material found in undergraduate engineering courses. It also includes advanced material and design tables and so will be a useful reference for postgraduate students and engineers in industry.
