One man’s obsession. One woman’s past. One chance to survive.
Reese Irons didn’t go looking for trouble—trouble found her. When Nash Mitchell charges into her world, desperate to uncover the truth behind his sister’s disappearance, she is drawn into a web spun from dark secrets, danger, and a past she prayed she’d escaped.
With lies, greed, and obsession swirling around them, trust is a luxury neither can afford. But as their connection deepens, so does the risk. A ruthless villain is closing in, and time is running out.
Together, Reese and Nash must decide: Are they chasing justice… or being led straight into a trap?
When past and present collide, will they find his sister in time—and at what cost?
Rebecca grew up in the rural West, where abandoned gold rush towns, remote caves, and the rugged Idaho mountains stirred her imagination. The stories remained unwritten until one day she decided she could no longer wait for tomorrow and began writing. Within a year, she penned Where Secrets Lie, His Last Text, and The Mistaken Witness.
Her clean novels provide unique twists, white-knuckle suspense, and sweet romance. The characters inspire with their courage, grounded in hope.
This was a good series. It was a little slow to start but once getting into the series in book 1 you won’t be able to put it down. I am thankful for the very short chapters in this book at the end because the tension is so strong you need to find a place to rest for a while. All I can say is the rescues were completed wonderfully and the bad guys get “it” in the end. Good series.
This is a good book. Lots of twisty windy action. Very in-depth plot that weaves many characters together in a continuous, compelling way. Like making a French braid in hair, with each piece of hair found and tucked into place to make a harmonious and complicated outcome. Great job Rebecca! I enjoyed reading this book. I know you will, too.
Exciting, heart wrenching, didn't want to put it down.
Love the book and the characters. The story kept me on the edge of my seat. Description of each scene put me right there with Nash, Reese, and the others.
This book is good and I greatly enjoyed getting to read it. It seems that I love anything written by Rebecca Lake. I highly recommend this book to you all.

Nash is desperate to find out why his sister diasppeared. They are immediately drawn into a web of secrets and danger. As the connection deepens between Nash and Reese so does the danger.
this was a strong third entry in the Deception In The Mountains series, it had that element that I was looking for and was invested in what was happening. Rebecca Lake has a strong writing style and was glad I got to read this. It continued the story perfectly and the characters continued to feel like they belonged in this universe.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
