Lo is preparing her baked good for her bakery when her cinnamon roll dough starts to pop. This popping is her magic’s way of getting her attention that something is about to happen. As she continues to prepare her dough she gets a vision sent really sure what to make of it at first. Later while in attendance of a book signing she gets more signs or intuition of what is to come. Lo knows she has to help solve a suspicious death once the body of the author is found the day after the signing to help keep the magic involve a secret to those not in the know.

This is a cute series that is a spin off of the Magical Cures Series, June’s, Lo is now an adult is own her own in a new town but she is often visited by friends and family from her hometown. So if you are a fan of June Heal or the Magical Cures series you will love this series. This book was a fun cozy mystery. I love the bookstore setting and the author’s signing as part of the storyline. As usually the characters are like old friends and interesting to visit. Skylar Blue, Lo’s familiar is so cute and sassy she so much fun to read about. If you love a touch of paranormal, baked goods, cute animals, and bookstores, this book is for you.

This was a fun mystery. The mystery was interesting. I had figured out the who but not the why. I liked the twists. The story has murder, books, romance, and ghosts. I liked the magic and the bakery. The whole story came together beautifully.

A story worth telling always starts with the one you’re afraid to say out loud.

Every great story contains the seed of its own ending.

“The best mysteries aren’t about who did it. They’re about what people will do to protect a secret they’ve held too long.”

The last chapter always begins with a door left unlocked.

Welcome back to Celestial Falls.
Lo is busy with Heavenly Desserts, baking and trying to keep her life quiet. Well, that is certainly about to change.
When author Patrice Holloway is found dead in the bookstore reading chair with a book open on her lap. The same bookstore where she did her book signing. Lo feels that warning that felt like words written in flour sunlight.
Was Patrice Murdered? Natural causes?
Can Lo sniff out sniff out the suspects to find the real killer? Danger, cozy mystery, paranormal, small town charm, secrets waiting as Lo looks for answers.

I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.

Tonya Kappes always does a great job of transporting her readers into her books and writing characters that are so engaging.
In this third installment of this series, Lo is working on baked items for a book signing but soon finds out the author has been murdered. Baked goods, books, and some magical additions makes this such a fun read.

Lo Heal-Park is a respected businesswoman with good friends in Celestial Falls. Heavenly Desserts, her bakery, is highly successful. Her love of baking began at an early age with her godmother’s teaching, in Whispering Falls. The daughter of June Heal and Oscar Park (Magical Cures Mystery Series), Lo grew up in a town of magic. She and her childhood nemesis, Orin, now an attorney, were the only two who did not seem to have “gifts” or magic to develop. Her parents believed she was a late bloomer, but in time she moved to Celestial Falls, a mortal town, followed by Orin, who is now a friend.

Lo’s staff includes two interns from Unhidden Hall University who were honing their baking skills. Wren took great pride in doing her best on every project. Quinn did his projects, but preferred using magic to actually making baked goods.

Lo began to discover and grow into her own magic, including ESP and “reading” her baking dough. She and her fairy god cat, Schyler Blue, often communicated through thoughts rather than speaking.

One morning, Lo’s dough and the loose flour on her counter began doing odd things. She saw a vision in the dough and tried to discover the meaning. One thing was certain: if something hadn’t just happened in town, it was ready to happen.

Lo could see Della working in her bookstore, preparing for a book reading and signing that evening. Best-selling author Patrice Holloway even stopped in Lo’s bakery when she arrived in town and loved her scones.

Patrice was a personable author, and Della’s bookstore was full of excited readers. Lo noticed several things that evening. Patrice made a comment to Lo, stating how Lo bakes magic into everything. When describing her approach to research, she spoke of a spiritualist practice and other situations as if she experienced them rather than read about them.

Patrice told what she believed the best mysteries were about, a point of view I had not considered before. A disturbance was raised by Loretta, who accused Patrice of plagiarism. Patrice and her agent, Vivienne, had a private discussion that led Lo to suspect that Patrice wanted out of a contract.

The next morning, Lo arrived early to pick up her platters from the bookstore. The door was unlocked, but Della was not there. She found Patrice, sitting in the reading chair, peacefully reading or resting? Neither – she was dead! Several hours later, they learned that she had been poisoned.

The sheriff arrested Loretta, but Lo was certain she did not do it. Lo wanted justice for Patrice, and began to do what she had only done a couple times – look for the true killer of the author who seemed to know too much.

Tonya Kappes exemplifies her incredible imagination, designing the most amazing forests, intricate landscapes, and even a special tea party scene. There is a serious rather than witty atmosphere in this series. Lo and her best friend, Grace, a mortal, are as close as besties can be except for one little thing. Lo has to keep her magic hidden, even from Grace, in this mortal town.

Lo, with input from Orin and Grace, began to solve the murder. The suspect list was short, and the killer was quickly, tentatively revealed. Next, they needed to find – somewhere - solid evidence to take to the sheriff. The resolution was completely satisfactory, and I highly recommend this and the first two mysteries in the series!

Many thanks to the publisher, Tonya Kappes Books, who provided a pre-publication copy of this novel. This is my honest review.

Great book with interesting characters and a very puzzling mystery.

Amazon synopsis:
Evie Bexley has mastered the art of conjuring the perfect cookie. But when a dangerous newcomer rolls into Honeysuckle Springs, no amount of sugar or spellwork can sweeten what she's stirring up.

Cassidy Brennan is a blogger with a gift for digging up secrets and a taste for selling silence. Her podcast has left a trail of ruined lives in other towns, and Honeysuckle Springs is next on her list. When Cassidy threatens Evie's friends, drops veiled warnings about witchcraft in the middle of a crowded restaurant, and whispers you're next directly in Evie's ear, it's clear the woman isn't just after a story. She's after power.

Before Evie can figure out how to protect her coven sisters—or herself—Cassidy turns up dead behind the old mill. Now, with half the town holding a grudge and her husband, Police Chief Caden Bexley, leading the investigation, Evie has a mess on her hands sweeter than nothing and darker than burnt caramel. Everyone had a reason to want Cassidy gone. The question is who finally stopped her.

With her familiar Kookie at her side, a pair of wine-sneaking elder witches full of questionable advice, and the sinking feeling that Cassidy knew more about Honeysuckle Springs' magical secrets than anyone realized, Evie is determined to find the truth. Because in a town full of witches, everyone has something to hide. But only one secret got Cassidy Brennan killed.

Mystic, Muffins, and Murder by Tonya Kappes is the third book in the Magical Cures Mystery Series. Lo Heal Park is the daughter of June Heal and Oscar Park. She is considered a late bloomer of her magical skill set.

She has relocated to Celestial Falls as she could not remain in the town she grew up in as she had no magical powers. Oren, her childhood friend relocates with her. Her powers begin to show themselves through her bakery dough. She is still trying to grasp them and learn about them.

As she prepares baked goods for the book signing, she gets some messages that things may not go well.
The next morning after the event, she awakes to learn that the author died in the bookstore.

She and Oren along with the directions provided by The Marys, they try to figure out what happened and who killed her before her notes fall into the wrong hands.

I enjoy this series. Oren and Lo have a strong friendship. They are learning together that Lo has magical powers and they haven’t been revealed all to her. She is trying to learn how to interpret and handle them.

I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I was given an advanced copy and these are my own opinions.

Mystic, Muffins, and Murder is the third book in the Southern Magical Bakery Mystery Series by Tonya Kappes. The amateur sleuth is Lo Heal-Park, a baker with unusual gifts. In this installment, Lo tries to figure out who killed a bestselling author.

I am a big fan of baking cozy mysteries, and this series is extra fun because of the setting and touch of magic. The stories take place in Celestial Falls, a small town free of magical restrictions. The place is brimming with charm and people who have all sorts of magical powers. Lo herself is just learning to wield her special gift (she can "read" dough), and it is entertaining to see how she uses her magic to solve mysteries.

I love the found family aspect in this book, as well as the scene-stealing fairy god cat, who makes the perfect sidekick for Lo. The slow-burn romance evolves at just the right pace and is nicely balanced with the mystery.

Author Tonya Kappes is so good at creating small-town mysteries with warm friendships and just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing whodunit throughout. The sassy cat and the accident-prone intern provide good comic relief to keep you laughing as you puzzle through the mystery.

Recipe for a great read:

One murder

One intrepid baker/amateur sleuth/spiritualist

One snarky cat

A dash of magic

Mix well.

“Bake” until solved.

Yield: a delicious cozy mystery

We're back at  Heavenly Desserts bakery in Celestial Falls, where there's a bit of magic in the muffins. Owner Lo Heal is getting a mystical warning from her dough (yes, dough), but she doesn't understand what it means. When famous author Patrice Holloway is found murdered following a book signing, Lo realizes what the message was. Will Lo’s nascent magical powers and mortal clues lead her to the killer? Or will she find herself “cooked”?

I have enjoyed the previous two books in this series, but this one was just an absolute joy to read. Ms. Kappes has created delightful characters, plunked them down in a charming site, and treated us to an intriguing mystery. I especially love Sylar Blue, a fairy godcat with an attitude. There's so many possibilities that you keep guessing right up to the end. So get yourself a treat …. put this book on your reading menu. I did receive an early copy from the author, but it is my pleasure to share my opinion.

Mystic, Muffins, And Murder is another entertaining installment in Kappes' Southern Magical Bakery Mystery series. I find myself enjoying this series with the next generation of characters from Kappes' Magical Cures mystery series. Lo seems to be really coming into her own especially starting to understand her own new magical abilities. When Lo attends a book signing, she doesn't expect it to lead to a murder. Trying to balance a normal life with magical abilities is rough, however Lo needs to solve this case and fast to keep everyone safe.

Kappes does a great job at setting up an entertaining read. I like seeing how things are progressing for Lo. I also really like seeing my favorite secondary characters back as well. The book's mystery is well done and does a good job at keeping the reader's interest from beginning to end. Overall Mystic, Muffins, And Murder proved to be a great read that I would most definitely recommend.

Received a copy of Mystic, Muffins, And Murder from the author.

Heavenly Desserts is Lo's bakery. The description of the treats that Lo bakes make my mouth water and do sound heavenly. Celestial Falls is the small town setting for this cozy mystery with a side of magic.

When an author is found dead holding a book, the hunt begins. Lo will use all of her skills to find the killer. The red herrings are plenty and will misdirect you frequently.

I got a little chuckle out of one of Lo's intern, Quinn. Quinn is working at a bakery, but he is a fire hazard in the kitchen. Lo has to keep a close eye on Quinn. But my favorite character still remains to be her cat, Skylar Blue, who steals the show in every scene.

If you want to read a fun cozy mystery with a great cast of characters, you will enjoy this one, especially if you are a fan of this author's signature southern sass and wit.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Mystic, Muffins, and Murder is another magically delicious addition to the Lo Heal Park series, and I absolutely loved the clever callback to the Magical Cures Mysteries. Lo is settling into life at her bakery when her dough—yes, her dough—delivers a message. She’s still figuring out how her spiritualist powers manifest, but she knows this omen isn’t random.
When a famous author arrives in Celestial Falls and is suddenly murdered, the connection becomes impossible to ignore. The author had been writing about the town and about spiritualists, but why—and how much did she really know? With the mayor on edge, plagiarism accusations swirling, and a suspiciously shady literary agent in the mix, Lo and Oren dive headfirst into the mystery.
I adore these characters, the charm of Celestial Falls, and the little sparks of magic that slip into everyday moments. The mystery is fun, twisty, and satisfying, and now I’m fully ready for the next Lo and Oren adventure.

Lo is in her bakery when the dough she’s working on starts behaving strangely. The wind chimes in town are chiming when there’s no wind, and the wording on the sign at the book shop changes by itself. Lo is new to the magical powers she possesses and doesn’t know what’s coming, but she knows something is about to happen.

Patrice Holloway, a popular, beloved author, is in Celestial Falls for a book signing. When she’s found dead, sitting in a chair in the book shop where the signing took place, Lo sets out to find out who killed her. There are several suspects who had motive to want Patrice dead. Lo just has to figure out who the murderer is, aided by her fairy-God cat, Skylar Blue, and Orin, seemingly always at her side when needed most. Secrets are revealed and Lo’s magical powers are strengthening, which help her in solving the crime.

A wonderful addition to the series!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the third book in the Southern Magical Bakery series and it is a great addition. Lo Heal Park owns the Heavenly Desserts bakery in Celestial Falls and has two interns working with her. Getting some of her bakery items ready for a famous author, Patrice Holloway, coming to the bookstore for a book signing. While Lo is working some dough, the dough starts acting strange. And then it simmers down. What does that mean? When Patrice is found sitting in a chair after hours in the bookstore, dead, Lo, Oren, and Lo's fairy God cat, Skylar decide to investigate. With so many twists and turns and suspects to be looked into, Lo has her hands full. Will her magic that keeps getting better help? This is a really good book that keeps you hooked from the beginning and doesn't let you go until the end. I highly recommend this entire series and can't wait for more! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Mystic, Muffins, and Murder is the third book in the Southern Magical Bakery series. Lo Heal-Park is settling nicely into her new home in Celestial Falls. Her bakery, Magical Desserts, is whipping up wonderful treats while she tries to keep her magic low-key.

All magic breaks loose when a local author is found deceased and her magical baking reveals the death as something much more sinister than murder. Lo puts her sleuthing cap back on and begins hunting for the killer. As the mystery unfurls, she realizes there’s a lot more going on and someone is willing to do whatever it takes to keep the truth buried.

Celestial Falls has a rich history, lots of secrets, and some quirky characters. The story was interesting, kept me engaged, and was well-paced. The author provides a very descriptive setting, explores Lo’s magical side, and develops the character between the pages. I enjoyed spending time with Lo, Skylar Blue, and the rest of the characters.

This is the 3rd book in this paranormal culinary cozy mystery series; I’ve read the first two books in the series and it just keeps getting better. You could read this as a standalone, but it would probably be best appreciated if you’ve read at least one of the previous books. Lo is a great main character and we are introduced to more of the secondary characters as we get to know more of the town. Lo is a very special baker, baking in a conventional way but perhaps adding a bit of her special magic as she discovers more about her gifts. She receives bits of visions of things that will happen, but doesn’t always understand what they mean. When a visiting author is killed, Lo investigates, as she has done before. I definitely recommend this book and series; I received an ARC, which I appreciate, but these opinions are my own.

Mystic, Muffins, and Murder is part of the Southern Magical Bakery cozy mystery series. When a popular author turns up dead following a book signing Lo Heal Park must get to the bottom of it. Using her investigative skills, and maybe a little magic, Lo is determined to solve the case before it’s too late.

I enjoy everything by Tonya Kappes, this included. This was a good, fast paced mystery read with great characters and a little bit of magic. I was pulled in from the beginning and engaged throughout this mystery. I always find these cozy mysteries easy to fly through and this one was the same. I thought this was a good addition to this series and I look forward to seeing what Lo gets caught up in in future books

Mystic, Muffins, And Murder is book #3 in the Southern Magical Bakery series by Tonya Kappes.

As a fan of the Magical Cures series, I am really enjoying this series with an adult Lo Heal-Park. Lo was a late bloomer, but her magical abilities are coming in now. It was interesting to see her learn about the visions in the dough. The descriptions of Celestial Falls makes it easy to imagine that you’re there. The mystery kept me guessing until the end, but my favorite part is the characters. A fairy god-cat like Skyler Blue would be wonderful to have. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

It's been awhile since I read the last book in the Southern Magical Bakery series so it took me awhile to remember who is magical and who isn't in Celestial Falls. Lo Heal-Park is a late bloomer to getting her magical powers and she's finding her way through it with the help of some friends.

An author comes to town dies after her book signing, Lo gets involved in finding out who killed her. The author had been writing about the town and it's spiritual nature, which needs to be kept secret. Can Lo and her friends figure out who killed Patrice before the secrets are revealed?

I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.

Lo Heal-Park is learning that she does have some magical powers as she nurtures her talent for baking in her bakery, Magical Desserts. While she is baking up some treats for an author signing she gets messages from the dough that things are not going to go well. Since Lo is just discovering her magical abilities she isn't quite sure how to interpret everything. The next morning the author is found dead and Lo and her friend Oren want to find out what happened and who is responsible. I am looking forward to my next visit to Celestial Falls in this entertaining mystery series.

I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

This is the 3rd installment in this series, and continues to provide an entertaining story with humor, snark, and a murder mystery, of course. This is a fun, cozy set in a town called Celestial Falls, where everything is just plain magical! An author is found dead in a bookstore, clutching a book...and the fun just progresses from there. Wonderful characters give you a truly entertaining read and will keep any cozy mystery lover completely satisfied. Can be read as a standalone, but you'll want to go back and get the others. Then, you'll also want to go back and check out the other series by this super talented author! Another winner right here!

It’s been a while since we visited this town which is a mix of mostly non magical people and some with magic. When an author, who seems to know something about the magical community, is killed, the magical word of Lo’s home community, is interested i. Lo finding a possible unfinished manuscript and the killer.

In this story the killer is revealed earlier than normal but the issue is proving it.

In this book the atmosphere Tonya Kappes creates by her descriptions, plays an important role to help the reader experience the story. It helped me feel I was there.

It was nice to be reintroduced to the magical community and creatures who make this series fascinating.

Lo is just discovering her magical abilities, a bit later in life than most. While kneading dough, she begins to hear it whispering to her—though the messages are often unclear. She crosses paths with an author who seems to know an awful lot about her, despite not being part of the magical world. How could she know so much? When Lo discovers the author dead in a bookstore, she realizes she must investigate, as the case touches both the magical and non-magical communities. With too many misleading clues and the risk of accusing the wrong person, Lo is determined to uncover the truth.

Welcome back to Celestial Falls! Lo Heal-Park is back for another delightful read! When best-selling author Patrice is found dead in the bookstore, Lo is once again drawn into an investigation. Her magical powers may provide her with clues, but she must find the evidence the mortal world requires. Together with her wizard friend and her fairy god-cat, can they find the killer? Delightful characters, plenty of small-town charm and a light touch of the supernatural are sure to keep you reading! Another winner by Tonya Kappes!

This is the third installment of the Southern Magical Bakery series. The story was well written and developed. The characters were full of personality! I love Skylar Blue! The descriptions of the baked goods and bookstore made me want to run and get a scone and explore a store. The author does a fantastic job of explaining the mystical elements of this world. If you enjoy paranormal cozy mysteries, I recommend picking up this series.

This is the third book in the Magical Cures Mystery series by Tonya Kappes and as usual I loved it. Lo Heal Park is late to her entry in magic much to her parents dismay. Lo moved to Celestial Falls and her powers finally began to show through due to her bakery. When an author dies in the bookstore she knows that she and Oren must investigate and find out what happened before the authors notes fall into the wrong persons hands. Highly recommend this author.

Welcome back to Celestial Falls. Lo is in her bakery Heavenly Desserts, when the dough starts to pop.
Lo has to pay attention to magical hints. With Skylar Blue, her sassy blue cat along side her, you're in for a treat.
When an author comes to town and is murdered, Lo and Orin must get to work.
This is Book 3 in this series. It was an enjoyable, cozy mystery. Love the characters.
I highly recommend.

Lo is busy creating desserts for her Heavenly Desserts bakery. The dough gives off weird signals, letting her know something is about to happen. You see, Lo has magical powers, but not everybody knows. She attends a book signing and later the author is found dead. Can Lo protect magic and solve the mystery. Was the author murdered and if so, why? An enjoyable magical mystery, with plenty of crossover from the Magical Cures Mystery Series.

A fun, easy-to-read mystery that perfectly blends paranormal elements with cozy vibes. The mystery itself was a ride. I had the killer pegged early on, but the exact motive remained a clever surprise until the very end. Skylar Blue, Lo’s cat, is easily the best character and steals every scene she’s in. It’s a great pick for anyone looking for a charming and lighthearted escape.
