With one scowl, I fell just that much harder for Callum Ashford—NFL star turned small town brewer. He’s not only older, but he’s my brother’s best friend. Two very important reasons I should stay away.
Only two years ago, after the worst night of my life, he kissed me and I can’t keep him off my mind.
When the only house available to rent in town happens to be the one across the street from him, the close proximity does its work.
We can’t keep our hands off each other. Yet as the heat rises, so do feelings. He might want me, but he wants peace more.
There’s a darkness within him I know he fights. Just as there are secrets his family needs to uncover. But when the danger comes full force, it won’t be from the obvious corner. No, we both have our pasts we chose to hide.
And our fears.
Yet when I break, he catches me.
And I hope I have the strength to do the same.
**Legacy is an age gap, best friend’s little sister, small town romance and the first in the Ashford Creek series featuring Callum and Felicity. Each one can be listened to as a complete standalone. A HEA is guaranteed!**

It’s been a minute since I’ve had the pleasure of getting lost in a Carrie Ann Ryan story and I have missed her! I love the big sense of community that always vibes in her stories. I really enjoyed the slow-burn between Felicity & Callum because it felt natural for who they were. They’ve known each other for a very long time and not being weary of taking their friendship to a new level would have felt off or forced. It was perfect for their characterization and their growth. They both grew in this story as individuals and as a couple and I also liked that very much. I liked the fact that the story kept me hooked from the beginning with more than just the build of their relationship. There were several “suspense” plot points intermingled in this story that added more layers to their journey that I honestly did not “see” how they ultimately played out. The story had an edge of anticipation for me and I really liked that! It kept me reading longer than I should have (lol) and even today, on release day, I’ve been 🎧listening🎧 to the audiobook even while I’m at work! I knew that 🎤Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke🎤 would be absolute perfection performing as Felicity & Callum and I was RIGHT! I cannot stop listening! *heart eyes*
I’m really excited to see what comes next in Ashford Creek and to listening to this audiobook all the way thru because something tells me this performance is going to make me feel every aspect of this story deeper than I already have and I am giddy for it! Stay tuned for the results …
THANK YOU, Carrie Ann & Bookcase Media for not just an ARC of Legacy but also the incredible Influencer Package!!
I normally really like this author, but this one fell flat for me, not sure why. I was so so on the couple, liked the town and the way that the "kids" banded together and looked out for each other and helped with cover day care. Liked the Carter parents and how they folded everyone into their family. Liked that Felicity's brothers didn't give Callum crap when they learned he was dating their sister. Hated the Ashford drunk dad, thought he got what was coming to him. So not sure why over all this one was just so so for me.
Felicity's been pining for her brother's much older best friend, Callum, for years, but aside from a scorching kiss a few years ago, he's never shown any interest in her aside from being his best friend's sister. She needs to get over him, but how can she when he starts showing he is interested? But then he pulls away again. His hot and cold act is enough to give her whiplash. If only he would tell her once and for all how he really feels, regardless of his friendship with her brother.
Callum has never felt good enough for Felicity, it's why he's always tried to keep her at a distance. His father's blood runs through him after all, automatically making him a bad idea for his beautiful, sweet Felicity. But perhaps he's always had the wrong thoughts about himself, and Felicity's making him see that. He simply cannot keep away from her now that she's his neighbor. And now that he's got her, he's not letting go, even if his best friend finds out and hates him for it.
What an epic introduction (after the prequel Careless) to a new series! I've been seriously impatient for their full story ever since I read Careless, and boy did it exceed my expectations. Their chemistry set my Kindle on fire, the will they, or more accurately, when will they, had me loving the angst, and I absolutely loved how they finally settled into their feelings. It took awhile, took becoming neighbors and the close proximity having its way with Callum's restraint. I wanted to hug Callum every time he thought he wasn't good enough for Felicity because he thought he was like his horrible father. Thank God Felicity and her family relieved him of that notion for good, because I probably would have cried if they hadn't finally gotten on the same page and allowed themselves to fall in love. Callum's brother Bodhi's story Crossroads is next, and I am eagerly waiting for it.
I love that Carrie Ann Ryan can always make me feel deep emotions with her books. In Careless(which was absolutely spectacular and an amazing set up, did not prepare me for the emotions that I truly felt while reading Legacy.
Callum is an ex pro football player who returned home after his retirement. His family may have found his town, but secrets and mystery run deep through Ashford Creek. A lot of that surrounds the Ashford family themselves. Callum is a man of mystery and his secrets run very deep. One of those secrets is that he has it bad for his best friend‘s little sister. Believing that he is not good enough for her, Callum pushes her away. Whether it be fate or call it what you will bring in the universe keeps putting them together, and he can only take so much.
Felicity is a sweet and genuinely caring person. She left Ashford Creek to go to college. now she is returning home to work in the bookkeeping office and be closer to her family. Her older brothers Rune and Atlas are an absolute trip. I absolutely love them. They are extremely loving and protective of their sister. Felicity gain some independence while she was away at college and now she is ready to start the next chapter of her life. There are two issues that she is dealing with. One the housing situation in her small hometown is very very limited. Second, the only house available is across the street from the man that she has been crushing on for years. Her brother‘s best friend who she does not see as a brotherly figure at all. Shared a very passionate kiss and then he pushed her away. Fate has a funny way of doing things. and it seems that Felicity and Callum keep ending up in the same proximity as one and another.
Legacy checks a lot of the boxes that I love in my romances. We have a small town, a brother's best friend, insane chemistry, and the amazing sense of family. Whether it be by blood or by choice. Oh, and we have an age gap in there as well. Felicity and Callum are amazing together. They are opposite enough of each other that their differences complement each other in an amazing way. Their chemistry burns hot before they even touch one another. Legacy is one of those stories that will take you through all the emotions. Be prepared to be entertained and maybe even find herself blushing. Callum seems to be a master at dirty talking. I have been reading Carrie Ann Ryan‘s books for well over a decade now. I was at a book conference where she was on a panel where she announced the original Montgomery series. I remember how excited I was. Her work was good back then and fast forward a decade or so and I know that I can expect an emotional read that will hit me in the heart every time. Legacy is a wonderful beginning to the Ashford Creek series.
Felicity and Callum’s story is slow-burn, spicy age-gap romance with some angst, and family drama included. They have known each other for years, but Callum has always seen her as his best friend’s much younger sister until two years ago when everything changed. He stepped in to rescue Felicity from a nasty situation and her thank you kiss sparked a thirst for her that he has resolutely buried. His family’s sordid past, especially his father’s, as well as his friendship with her brothers, makes pursuing his interest in her untenable. He pushed her away then and now that she is back home after finishing college, Callum makes sure to keep his distance. In a small town like theirs, and given the friendship between their families, that proves to be difficult.
Felicity has had a crush on Callum for years. She certainly doesn’t think of him as another big brother. She knows he felt the same sparks when they kissed, but his determination to push her away spurs her resolve to move on. Call it Fate or something else, but they keep being thrown together, and he witnesses her attempts at dating. Then she rents a house that just happens to be across the street from Callum. Another searing kiss and they decide to pursue a friends with benefits arrangement, in secret, of course. Secrets don’t stay secrets, and there is family drama and both sides to deal with, as well as the past coming back to haunt them. Will they keep moving forward or take a step back and away from each other?
Felicity and Callum have plenty of intense and super heated chemistry. He has dirty talk mastered, and she proves to be a willing student of the sensual arts. They have love and loyalty to their families in common, as well as a love for their hometown and community at large. Callum’s need to safeguard and protect those he cares for, including Felicity, is always evident. He is the grumpy, growly with a heart of gold that he tries to hide and deny, but those close to him have always known it was there. Felicity brings sweetness and light into his life, and to those who get to know her. She stands up for herself, is set on being fully independent, and knows what she wants. She loves the overprotective males in both her family and Callum‘s but she is not about to let them wrap her up in bubble wrap, or dictate her every move. Loving Callum is both the easiest and hardest thing she has ever done and she fully intends to build a future with him. I love the small town setting of this book where the citizens know each each other‘s business are not above meddling, but step up to support their own.
This incredible book has my heartfelt recommendation.
Legacy is book 1 in the new Ashford Creek series, a spin off from the Wilder Brothers series. In Legacy we follow family leader, Callum, as he falls for his best friend's little sister, Felicity.
Callum is an ex-professional football player. When he retired, he came home to Ashford Creek. His family founded the town he calls home. His father has done everything in his power to make every Ashford's life miserable. Mysteries and secrets run rampant through Ashford Creek, especially around the Ashford's themselves.
Felicity is the youngest child and only girl in her family. She was an oops baby, but her brothers both love her and protect her from everything, including boys (men). She works for the local bookkeeper and loves what she does. She is moving back to Ashford Creek after college in order to work full time at the bookkeepers office and be near her family.
Felicity has had a crush on Callum for years. Two years ago, things happened that should not have, at least in his eyes, that are never spoken of. She is his best friend's little sister. She is forbidden. She is also a decade younger than him. She is just starting her life and he is just getting by.
But the chemistry between Callum and Felicity is off the charts. Everyone can see it even though they think they are hiding it.
When Callum finds Felicity a house to rent so she can have her own space, it is right across the street from his house. Coincidence? I think not.
When they start hanging out together, it is at either his house or her house. Coincidence? I think not.
But when his past comes back to haunt him and threaten Felicity in the process, secrets will come out, lives will be changed, but will a friendship be ruined?
I have to admit, I love Rune and Atlas, Felicity's brothers. I am hoping to see more of them in future Ashford Creek books. Maybe even one of them can be Teagan's love interest, hint hint.
Felicity is a strong woman. She does not let any man take advantage of her. Yet she lets the four L's walk all over her. I am having a hard time with this. Is it because she really does not have any girlfriends in Ashford Creek? Or is there something else at play here?
Callum has secrets. So many secrets. Some will be revealed in this story. But I believe there are still more to come. Are they solely his, or his family's is yet to be seen.
Legacy is narrated by Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor, two of my favorite, and most listened to, narrators. I love Jason's gruff voice as Callum and Rune. You can tell their lives have not always been easy. And the sweetness in Samantha's voice brings out Felicity's youth and naivete. But when things go wrong, her fear and strength are evident in the narration. Here is to more audiobooks from these two.
Ever since the novella, I have been anxiously waiting for this series to be released. “Legacy” is a swoony, action packed and romantic brother’s best friend, age gap romance that was a fantastic start to this new series.
Since two years ago on one of the worst nights of her life, Felicity has had a crush on her older brother’s best friend. Callum is a former NFL star, turned small town brewer after an accident took him out of the game. And since that night, Callum has never stopped thinking about Felicity. But he has it in his head that he is and never will be good enough for her. And when he helps her find a house, one that happens to be across the street from his, the feelings they have for each other boil over. They spend a lot of their time together, in secret, and can’t keep their hands off each other. But when the past for both of them start to threaten Felicity, Callum vows to protect her at all costs.
These two were so great in their novella and I loved that we got their story next. Felicity is caring, genuine and just wants to be happy in her small town. Her brother’s best friend was the last guy she thought she would crush on but it’s always been him. Callum is a man who puts on a grumpy shell because of his Dad but underneath is a man who cares deeply. He was absolutely torn about the feelings he had for Felicity because she was younger than him but they had a chemistry that could not be denied no matter how they tried. He was always the first to help her and she knew he was someone she could always count on. The steamy scenes were great and Callum always put Felicity first, which we love. The sneaking around was so much fun even though they weren’t fooling anyone because it was apparent how much these two cared for each other. Callum’s dad was a real piece of work but he did everything he could do to shield Felicity from as much as he could have. The action had me listening non stop as they figured out who was coming after him and Felicity. I loved the ending and the bonus epilogue made my heart so happy. And I cannot wait for the next book in this series with the teaser we got.
Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke narrated this audio and they were fantastic as Felicity and Callum. Samantha brought Felicity’s caring and genuine personality to life perfectly. And I loved listening to Jason as the growly and protective Callum. I’m never disappointed when listening to a book narrated by Samantha and Jason.
My review is written voluntarily after listening to the audio version of this book.
I enjoyed reading the prequel novella to this series, Carless, and have been eagerly awaiting the release of Legacy, which reunites Felicity and Callum two years later and follows their second chance journey, which was an emotional roller coaster that I didn't want to end.
If, for some reason, you missed Carless, you will still be able to enjoy Legacy as the author seamlessly weaves that story into Felicity and Callum’s romance so that you will be able to pick up what happened two years ago on the worst night of Felicity's life. Callum is the eldest sibling of the Ashford family and has been both a brother and a parent to his younger siblings. He's a former NFL star who now owns and runs a very exclusive and successful microbrewery in his hometown of Ashford Creek. Felicity has had a crush on Callum, her older brother’s best friend, but their age difference and his closeness to her brother have always kept him out of reach.
Callum, for his part, has never stopped thinking about what happened between them two years ago, but believes that because of his father, he's not good enough for her. When Felicity, with his help, moves into a house across the street from his, the feelings they have tried to deny prove impossible and boil over. Believing that they are keeping their relationship a secret, they spend a lot of time together and are unable to keep their hands off each other. Their chemistry is palpable and hot, but their connection is much more than physical. How much longer can it remain a secret? But then their shared past threatens Felicity, and Callum vows to protect her no matter what.
There is so much more I could say, but that would involve too many spoilers, so I'll refrain. This is a superb start to a new series, packed with action that kept me listening nonstop as they try to figure out who was coming after both of them, and why. The ending, as well as the bonus epilogue, made my heart soar and had me crying happy tears. I can't wait for the next book in this series after listening to the teaser.
The narration by Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke is fantastic. They brought every aspect of Felicity and Callum's emotional story to life. Jason's growly and protective, Callum and Samanth's sympathetic yet strong, Felicity was just perfection, it's just impossible to be disappointed when listening to a book narrated by Samantha and Jason.
Fans of action-packed, brother’s best friend, age gap romance genres and of powerful, emotionally raw romance will love this book, the start of what promises to be an unforgettable small-town romance series.
From the moment she first laid eyes on him she was smitten, but he seemed oblivious to her attraction. So, she just admired him from afar and kept her little crush on him under wraps. Which was kind of hard because he was her brother's best friend and always around, but she managed. But now that he's living across the street from her and constantly looking for reasons to stop by... managing that crush could be a whole lot harder!
The pages of Legacy hold a beautifully written love story brimming with raw emotion and suspenseful moments that will have you dangling helplessly from the edge of your seat at times. As we meet these two wonderfully drawn characters we learn that they have feelings for one another, but have always let trivial things keep them apart. With Callum being Felicity's brothers best friend it adds the complication of possibly ruining a life long friendship and Callum isn't so sure he wants to take that chance. There is also a bit of an age difference and them being in different stages in their lives, so they question rather they are right for one another. Then there are outside forces trying to find their way into the mix, pasts that haunt both of them daily. It's one of those love stories that comes with many obstacles, it's a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows... but so worth it when that last page finds you!
If you have the opportunity to read this one, I encourage to grab the opportunity with both hands and dive right in,. The story that these two have to tell will entertain, touch your heart, make you blush a time or two, and keep you on your toes the whole way through. I am excited to see where the pages take us next in this series! Loved every minute of this one and I know you will too, highly recommend!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Legacy delivers exactly what I look for in a small‑town romance: heart, heat, and a community filled with intertwined histories. Carrie Ann Ryan brings Ashford Creek to life through the story of Callum Ashford, a former NFL player turned brewery owner and devoted guardian to his younger siblings, and Felicity Carter, the town’s meticulous accountant, youngest of three, and longtime keeper of a very inconvenient crush.
I loved the dynamic between Callum and Felicity. Their age gap and the added complication of Callum being best friends with Felicity’s brother, Rune, create real emotional tension—yet their chemistry is undeniable. When they finally give in? Spicy, explosive, and absolutely worth the wait. The story moves quickly, and the thread of mystery woven throughout keeps the pages turning. One of my favorite elements was how deeply the book leans into themes of family, loyalty, and the way communities rally together despite old wounds and long‑standing losses. The Ashford and Carter families feel lived‑in and layered, and I’m already invested in seeing where the rest of their stories lead.
There were a few aspects that didn’t fully connect for me. The “4 L” college friends receive a significant amount of buildup, but their presence in the current timeline felt brief and underdeveloped. Felicity’s blind date also felt like an unnecessary detour rather than a true source of conflict. And occasionally, major moments—like when Callum gets injured—wrapped up too quickly with time jumps that skipped over emotional fallout I would’ve loved to sit in.
Still, Legacy is an engaging, heartfelt start (or continuation) to the Ashford Creek world. I closed the book eager to follow the rest of the Ashford and Carter siblings as they find their own happily‑ever‑afters in this charming small town.
I finished the prequel, Careless featuring Felicity and Callum, and immediately started Legacy. I needed to know their story, and what a ride it was!
Legacy takes place two years after Careless. Felicity is back in Ashford Creek and working as an accountant. She's living with her parents but looking for a place to call her own. She's also trying to get over her crush on Callum and the scorching kiss they shared. Which is easier said than done. The man is everywhere! He just so happens to arrange for her to rent the house across the street from his. Hello, forced proximity! They soon discover that neither one of them can resist the other, and they might as well stop figting it. They enter into a secret relationship, or so they think. 🤣 Things are going well until danger from their pasts show up. Their secret comes out, and they have to navigate their feelings while putting up with the talk from their friends, family, and townsfolk, all while facing danger. Gotta ❤️ that small town gossip!
I was hooked from the beginning. I can see myself devouring this whole series! I feel like we are getting to know everyone in Ashford Creek and the town itself (excellent world building). This was just as fast-paced as Careless. You won't want to put it down! There's an age gap, a broody MMC, and younger FMC who finally stands up for herself (looking at the L's here 😠), strong family and friendships, hella chemistry and spice, and enough suspense to keep you guessing and turning those pages. The bonus epilogue is worth the read, too. I can't wait for book two!
I received an ARC of this book, but these opinions are my own. I would like to thank the author, Carrie Ann Ryan, for allowing me the privilege of reading her work. ❤️
Legacy begins as a story about a man that is terrified of the inheritance he has received from his father and what he might be leaving behind for the next generation, but slowly he comes to see that with the right mentality and the love of the right woman he can choose what he leaves behind and make if something meaningful and wonderful. Callum knows in his heart that he doesn’t deserve Felicity and certainly isn’t the right man for her, but once she forced him to confront his feelings for her, there is no way that he can resist that need, even when he fears what loving her will do to her present and future. But loving her is exactly what Felicity needs and she knows that nothing Callum chooses to do or give her could ever be bad for her, but when dangers arise that threaten their happy world she is willing to do whatever it takes to protect their new love. The heat between these two lovers has bee burning for years and is enough to melt all the snow in the Colorado mountains and once they finally accept that resistance is futile, we can see that passion burning for the entirety of their hopefully long lives together. I loved every moment of their story, even when we had to watch them fighting for their HEA quite literally as they fought enemies, and one another for that chance to be together and love long into their old ages. I am dying to see more of these Ashfords as they find their match and hopefully even find healing from their painful pasts, and after that last chapter (damn you Carrie Ann, EVERY time!) we know the next story is going to a rough one. Whever this series leads us, whatever mysteries we solve, and whatever dangers lurk around new corners, Ms. Ryan has a lifelong fan in me for sure!
Legacy is such a fantastic start to a new series. It has all the things I expect from a Carrie Ann Ryan story, but a new setting, a deeper look into a new family, and so many things for these characters to work through throughout the series.
Callum is growly and a caretaker, having looked out for his younger siblings from an early age and still looking to shield them from their father’s shadow.
Felicity is the youngest of her siblings by nearly a decade. She is strong and independent, smart, and making a place for herself in her hometown.
I loved watching these two. Felicity is not a damsel in distress, though she does find herself in distress on occasion. She is feisty, knows what she wants, and just wants to be seen for herself.
Callum’s sister was introduced in the Wilder series, when she fell in love with Gabe in Pieces of Me. But the rest of the Ashford family? They have skeletons, and traumas, and shadows they are trying to get out from behind. Each sibling’s glimpses had me falling in love with the individuals and has me set and ready to see their stories. I can’t wait for more from Ashford Creek!
A small town…where everyone may either know your business…have an opinion on your life…or both.
A small town…where the descendants of the founding family, are working at finding their paths…as a family…and as individuals…working at getting out from the shadows of their father.
We’ve met a few of the Ashfords in Pieces of Me (the ninth book in the Wilder Brothers series) with Briar & Gabe’s story. We also got to see more of them, in the prequel to the series: Careless.
Legacy…
The start of the series, & Callum & Felicity’s story…that picks up two years after Careless, with Felicity having moved back to Ashford Creek.
She’s out of college, working with the local accounting firm & trying to find a place in town to rent—so she can move out of her parent’s place.
Callum is trying to ‘ignore’ his feelings for her….thinking he’s too old & so forth. Felicity decides to try to date to get over her ‘crush’…
What happens when they give in to their feelings?
What happens when two of the Ls come through town?
When parts of their pasts collide?
Answers to those questions & more can be found within the pages of Legacy, the first in the Ashford Creek series, out now. Go & grab this book…it’s a wonderful start to what I have a feeling is going to be a great series…
Just reading this book…I don’t think I’ll be able to pick my favorite male main character…or at least not yet. Small town vibes, family dynamics, & all the meddling of people who want the best for them…five out of five stars, & I can’t wait to head back to Ashford Creek throughout the next year or two.
Okay, so this book grabbed me immediately. The whole setup—her falling for her brother’s best friend who also happens to be an ex-NFL star turned small-town brewer—just hits all the right notes. Callum is broody, older, and has that “I’m trying to be left alone” vibe, which of course makes him even more appealing.
Their history makes everything feel extra intense. That one kiss from two years ago? Yeah… the kind you don’t forget. So when she ends up renting the house right across the street from him, things get complicated fast in the best possible way.
The tension between them is so good—like “just get together already!!” good. But what I really liked is that it’s not just steam. There’s real emotion, real fear, real past trauma they both try to hide. And when things start getting dangerous, it’s not from where you expect, which kept me hooked.
What really got me, though, is how they show up for each other. When she falls apart, he’s right there catching her. And you just hope she can return that strength when he needs it, because he definitely has his own shadows.
Overall, it’s one of those romances that feels hot, emotional, a little messy, and very human. If you want something that mixes chemistry, comfort, and a bit of mystery, this one’s totally worth reading.
Emotional Slowburn Romance To Callum Ashford, Felicity Carter is off-limits. She is his best friends’s little sister and over a decade younger than him. Plus, he is not a good man. She cannot be his no matter how much he wants her. She is always on his mind and he worries about her and will always be there for her. However as far as Felicity is concerned, she is not his to care for. She is not one of his siblings and she does not want him to take the place of one of her brothers. She has enough big brothers and she does not need him to have some odd sense of responsibility when it comes to her. What she needs to get over her crush on him, but he is confusing her. One minute, he is kissing her and the next, he is pushing her away. This is a heartfelt small town romance with a number of elements that bring so much emotion to Callum and Felicity’s story. There are secrets, mystery, danger and suspense as well as chemistry, steamy scenes, typical small town gossip and what I love the most is how they create their own family in the small town of theirs. Even though “Legacy” can be read as a standalone there are lots of hints as to what is to come in this series as well as many questions that I hope will be answered in future books. I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.
💙 Age Gap 🌙 Best Friend's Sister 💙 Fling 🌙 In Peril 💙 Opposites Attract 🌙 Small Town 💙 Secret Romance 🌙 Tortured Hero 💙 Unrequited Love 🌙 Virgin
Carrie Ann Ryan released a prequel last month called "Careless" to give us a preview of Callum & Felicity and "Legacy" picks up two years later. This book follows the emotional breakdown of these two and how their journey to finally be togethet isnt for the fiant heart so prepare the tissues; you're in for an emotional rollarcoaster.
The trope of tortured hero describes Callum to a tee. He blames himself for what happens two years prior because of his father. In typical fashion of CAR novels, Felicity moves in across the street anf Callum helps her and sparks begin to fly all over again because they can't keep feeling inside when the inevitable is bound to happen.
Their chemistry sets the tone for this series because its as hawt as it can get without bring dark romance. The yearning in this book brings out Carrie's character development and when the third act hits; it makes you not want these two characters to end because you just want even more.
Felicity believes in loyalty and love at all cost similar to Callum when it comes to family but she shoots right up to #1 in Callum's mind from the start and he will do anytbing to prtrct her and teach her the ways he loves to spoil his woman and that makes the storyline for "Legacy" even hotter and title of the book more understanding. Callum is the german shepard all of us woman want in our lives and that is why you need to read "Legacy" and kick off the series as its just beginning. All CAR books are stand alones.
This is a wonderful start to the new Ashford Creek (the setting for this heartwarming small town romance) series. There is a prequel novella (Careless) which can be read before this giving a little more details of the earlier interactions between the lead characters.
Legacy is the first full book in the new series and can be read without the prequel if you want, as it provides all the relevant information as you progress in the story and get to know Felicity and Callum, and the town of Ashford Creek.
This book fits into several tropes: age-gap, best friend’s little sister, and small town romance, so there is definitely something for everyone. There is great depth to this story, with difficult topics being handled sensitively with well written narrative. The story is full of emotion and romance, and a sprinkling of suspense keeping you eagerly turning the pages.
We also get to meet Felicity's two brothers and all of the many siblings in the Ashford family. There is no lacking of wonderful characters and this is looking to be an epic series, full of spicy romance, strong family bonds and rich storytelling, all set in this sweet small town. The strong story along with the suspense woven in, keep this series and the top of my TBR for 2026!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Legacy delivers a heartfelt, slow-burn romance that leans into timeless themes—second chances, small-town roots, and the steady pull of a love that refuses to stay buried. Callum Ashford, an NFL star turned hometown brewer, is the kind of brooding hero readers have always gravitated toward: guarded, honorable, and carrying more weight than he lets on. His history with the heroine—his best friend’s younger sister—adds a classic layer of tension that feels earned rather than forced.
The story shines in its quiet moments just as much as its emotional peaks. Proximity does what it always has in good romance—it softens defenses, stirs old feelings, and brings buried truths to the surface. The chemistry is undeniable, but it’s the emotional restraint that makes it compelling. Callum’s desire for peace, and the heroine’s struggle with her past, ground the story in realism and heart.
As secrets surface and danger approaches from unexpected places, Legacy proves it’s not just about passion—it’s about choosing to stand firm when life presses hard. The tenderness of “when I break, he catches me” lingers long after the final page. For readers who appreciate a love story built on loyalty, growth, and the enduring strength of showing up for one another, Legacy is a rewarding, satisfying read.

This is the follow on for Callum Ashford and Felicity Carter who we first met in the prequel, Careless. Neither can forget that night two years ago when Callum came to Felicity's aid when she was attacked by a blind date, and the subsequent kiss that rocked their world. Now, Felicity is back in her home town, living at her parents and working at a local firm. When Felicity finds a place to live, across the street from Callum, it is clear that keeping their distance is not going to work. So as they embark on a secret fling, it soon becomes apparent that despite Callum's misgivings that he is too old and not good enough for Felicity, this might be the start of something more. So when the dangers of the past come back to threaten their new togetherness, it might just bring their secret world very public.
This is another Carrie Ann Ryan success. This new series has gotten off to a fantastic start. The men of Ashford Creek are deliciously flawed, and will make for some very juicy stories. The characters of the Carter and Ashford families are strong, loving, working to overcome the traumas of their past, family secrets and looking for their HEA. I am so excited for what's to come.
Legacy is a romantic suspense story that blends deep emotional connections with family obligation and danger lurking just beneath the surface.
Callum owns and runs the local brewery in Ashford Manor after an injury ended his NFL career far too soon. As the oldest sibling, he’s taken on the role of protector, often stepping in to shield his family from their alcoholic father before things spiral out of control. Callum carries responsibility like a burden he never puts down. and it’s shaped how he sees himself and his worth.
Felicity has just graduated from varsity and returned home, beginning her career at an accounting firm. Two years earlier, after Callum rescued her from a dangerous situation, they shared a kiss that neither of them forgot. Felicity has always had a crush on Callum, but the age gap and timing kept everything unresolved.
The chemistry between them is intense and steady, built on trust, tenderness, and moments of quiet support. Callum always seems to be there when Felicity needs help, even though he doesn’t believe he deserves happiness himself.
The pacing is slower at the beginning, with some repetition, but once the suspense element takes hold, the story becomes gripping. The feeling that Felicity is being watched adds urgency and tension, pushing both the romance and the mystery forward.
What truly stood out was Callum’s character—protective, loyal, and endlessly caring, yet struggling with anger and self-doubt, especially when it comes to his father. The mystery and suspense are strong, and the emotional payoff makes the journey worth it.
What a fantastic start to a new series. Ms. Ryan has once again grabbed our attention with this remarkable and exquisitely written love story. She gives us a love story with twists and turns and a little suspense thrown in to keep us on the edge of our seats. She really is a storyteller, not just an author. Her storylines are gripping, and her characters are ones that you want to have in your circle.
Legacy is an age-gap romance, featuring a brother's best friend, and set in a small town. We are told the story of Callum and Felicity, the past they shared and the attraction that they currently have towards one another. After an accident, Callum is back in Ashford Creek working in his brewery. His past is filled with secrets and haunts him daily. Then we have Felicity, the girl who is home for good and who had her heart shattered two years ago by the man she has always loved, Callum. Now they are in the same town, the attraction is too hard to ignore and sparks ignite, and his dirty talking sets the sheets and kitchens on fire. However, there is danger lurking in the background and Callum is her white knight.
If this book is any indication of the rest of the series, I am eager to see what Ms. Ryan has in store for the rest of the series.
I’m always excited to read a new Carrie Ann Ryan book. Triple excited to start a new series by her. Legacy is book one in the Ashford Creek series, of which I believe we are getting four book this year??? Well, it doesn’t matter how many right now, let’s talk about this yumminess. Felicity and Callum known each other for years. After all, he is her brother‘s best friend. And while she has crushed on him for years, he didn’t have any feelings for her of the romantic sort until two years ago. Yes, they kissed, and then Callum walked away. Because , he’s too old for her. Sigh, I much prefer my age gap without the MC guilt, lol, but there needs to be some drama, right? This couple is steamy and sweet, so easy to cheer for. Felicity made me young, but she has a good head on her shoulders, except maybe where her college friends are concerned. Callum is the typical big brother who feel the need to solve all these siblings problems. I really enjoyed it getting to know each of the Ashford siblings, because once their story comes along, we’ve already got the foundation laid out of what their personalities are. Legacy is a great start to this family and to this town full of interesting, slightly corgi characters. Ms. Ryan has another hit on her hands.
Callum and Felicity have a past that is in the prequel Careless. Legacy picks up two years later, when Felicity moves back home to their small town of Ashford Creek after graduating from college. Has the fiery connection between the two diminished in the two years apart...absolutely not, if anything it has grown!
Callum is full of reasons why they can not be together, from being her older brothers best friend, to his own family drama with his father, and having to have raised all his siblings even though he was a kid himself after tragedy strikes his family twice at the hands of his father.
Felicity is full of reasons why they should be together despite him being almost a decade older and her brothers best friend. She is an adult and is making her choices be known, which is hard in a small town where everyone has an opinion as to what is best for you. Especially when you have two older, protective brothers!
Legacy is a angsty, fun read with a bit of mystery and intrigue. Callum and Felicity both have issues they overcome together and grow stronger together because of them. Can't wait to read the rest of the Ashford Creek series!
Felicity has had feelings for her brother’s best friend Callum for a while, and they only escalated on the night that he was there for her when she found herself in a dangerous situation. As much as she wants it to different she is trying to accept that he will never want more but that proves to become even more difficult when they become neighbors.
Callum’s past has been filled with loss and even though he has feelings for Felicity he also wants to keep her away from the dark influences in his life. Now that they are neighbors they begin spending more time together as friends which soon escalates into more, but will they be able to overcome the past that refuses to let them move forward.
I loved the family relationships in this story which included his siblings and her family as well. Callum has been through so much and he wants to protect her from everyone and everything including himself, but Felicity sees and wants the man he is and isn’t about to accept anything less. Jason Clarke had you feeling the conflict that Callum was while Samantha Brentmoor brings out the spirited side of Felicity.
I am so, so, so excited we are starting a new year and a new series with Carrie Ann Ryan. 'Legacy' is a look at what is both good and not so good about living in a small town. Having grown up in a very small town I understand all the intricacies of small town living - everyone knows everyone, everyone knows every else's business, everyone knows what is best for everybody else. Having said that, one of the great things about small towns are the close knit relationships - growing up at your best friend's house and being treated like just another sibling, having close friend groups, keeping these relationships for the rest of your life no matter where you go or what you do. One thing that is extremely common is marrying your high school sweetheart or sometimes, your high school crush.
Synopsis:
Felicity went away to a large city to attend college but she always knew she would return home after graduation. Her connection to her two older brothers and parents is extremely tight but she is ready to gain some independence. She has an amazing job now she just needs to find her a place of her own to live, unfortunately, the housing situation in Ashford Creek is limited.
At one time, Callum was living his dream as an NFL player. A career endng injury sent him back to his home town of Ashford Creek. He now is the owner of a very exclusive and sucessful micro-brewery. Fortunately for Felicity, Callum knows of a great place for her to rent. Unfortunately for Callum, it is right across the street from his own home. Since saving her from an assult situation two years ago, Callum has found it difficult to keep his distance from his best friend's sister, the very much younger Felicity. Having her so close is going to be a challenge.
I was really looking forward to the release of the first installment of the Ashford Creek series and this story did not disappoint. I am eagerly anticipating the next story.
ARC Review ✨ First I would like to say a big thank you to Carrie Ann for letting me be apart of this ARC Team! Rate: 5/5⭐️ Spice: 2/5🌶️
What to expect when reading Legacy; -Small Town Romance -Best Friends Sister -Age Gap -He’s pierced -Romantic suspense
This is book one of the Ashford Creek series! You get to follow Callum and Felicity! We got a little taste of these two in the prequel and this book was so good, such a good start to this new series! Callum knows he isn’t good enough for Felicity and then add her being his best friend’s little sister. The chemistry between these two was hot! I will also say the plot twist was not expected and soooo good. I honestly could read so much more about these two, they were very entertaining, but honestly all of Carrie Ann’s characters are🙌 Also I can’t wait for book two!!!!!! I need it already lol😅
Fav Quote: •”You don’t want to know all of my secrets, Felicity” •”Felicity, baby, you confuse me every fucking day. Just call if payback”

Legacy is the debut novel in Carrie Ann Ryan's new Ashford Creek series where we meet Felicity and Callum...and many more besides.
It all started out with Felicity's school girl crush and ended being so much more!
This age gap/ brother's best friend/ small town romance ticks so many of my 'favourite' boxes...The thought of something that might be 'forbidden' is enough to win me over every day of the week.
The 'delay' in these two getting together only adds to the anticipation of what's to come. To say it is worth the wait is an understatement.
I really felt for Callum and his siblings and have no doubt we will find out even more secrets that the they have yet to uncover.
Callum and Felicity's journey to their HEA endured peaks and troughs, putting this couple through the mill in the process.
My hope is that this series also allows Felicity's brothers have a chance at finding their 'one' too.
All in all, Legacy is an interesting and appetite whetting series debut that I look forward to sampling further.
Legacy by Carrie Ann Ryan is the start of a new series, Ashford Creek, and I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook. Narrated by Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor, they brought Callum and Felicity to life for me. This is a small-town romance with age-gap and best friend’s sister. Callum is reserved and protective, even if he does not think he is good enough for Felicity. Felicity has always had feelings for Callum, but he has never seen her as anyting more than his best friend’s sister. Only one-night changes everything. But he knows he cannot be with her.
Years later, they are now neighbors and cannot seem to avoid each other. Though he wants to keep her at a distance, he is drawn to her and their chemistry is undeniable. Callum, however, deals with some insecurities about his father and what he deserves. He has helped raise his siblings and carries a lot of responsibilities. While Felicity sees Callum and sees what they can be together. Will they find their way to each other? This was a great start to a new series.
This new series is off the a wonderful start. I absolutely loved Callum & Felicity. I am a total sucker for the friends to lovers and best friends little sister trope. Not a huge fab of age gap but this was done right. The angst and chemistry between these two was jumping off the page.
Felicity has always harbored feelings for Callum and vice versa but pursuing each other was forbidden. Callum however has always been there for her whenever she needed him. Fast forward a few years and Felicity returns to her hometown of Ashford Creek and finds that her feelings are still very much alive.
Carrie Ann delivers some super sweet and tender moments as well as some steamy and fun moments too making this a well rounded read.
The family dynamic of each family was very engaging and entertaining. Carrie Ann has definitely developed very likable supporting characters in this first Ashford Creek book and I cannot wait for more. I am definitely looking forward to Angus' story.
The audiobook narration for this book was wonderfully delivered by Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke.
