You can’t change the past… but you can choose your tomorrow.
Five years after the heartbreak of losing her young son, Sara Mortimer knows her marriage is hanging by a thread. In a last attempt to save it, she suggests a summer in Tuscany, hoping the rolling hills and golden light might bring her husband back.
But as Marcus drifts further away, Sara begins to wonder if she’s fighting for her marriage – or for herself.
Then she meets Eddie Hunt, a rugged ex-traffic cop carrying grief that mirrors her own. With him, she glimpses the woman she could be… if she’s brave enough to take the chance.
And when a long-buried secret comes to light, Sara must decide where her heart truly belongs. Because if she doesn’t choose herself now, she may regret it forever…
A poignant, heartfelt story of love, loss, and the quiet courage it takes to begin again, perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes and Kerry Fisher.
It’s always a treat to find a novel with characters that stay with you because they find a special place in your heart.
Sara is in a terrible marriage, and her plight captured my empathy from the outset. Her character was beautifully drawn - each action, each thought is measured as she navigates the constraints of a cohesive marriage.
Sharp’s narrative voice is evocative, poetic and honest. She does not shy away from challenging issues. I loved the way Tuscany, an assault on the senses, symbolises hope and freedom. It is Time for Tuscany, time for Sara to live.
Eddie arrives in Sara’s life, and I adored this character, loving the contrast between him and her husband. Eddie is sensitive, caring and empathetic and he can read Sara’s emotions. It was fascinating to discover more about Eddie and Sara. As their troubles are unpacked, you wonder if they will survive. The novel is a great lesson in how relationships are built on unstable foundations of people’s lives.
A complex and beautifully written story of loss and second chances. A promising debut!
