There is a darkness encroaching the lands of Serit. From the Givensmir kingdoms to the Blackthorn coven, bitter rivalries threaten the lives of magic and mortalkind alike.
With the truth of her mother’s demise fresh in her heart, Eve has fled her life of comfort to escape the clutches of Givensmir’s new and vengeful king. Stowing away on a pirate ship bound for destinations unknown, Eve and her familiars must place their trust in its captain. A man with a dark past and a proclivity for secrets.
But no matter how far she runs, the Blood of the Blackthorn continues to haunt her dreams, beckoning her to fulfill its fatal prophecy, and soon Eve is forced to choose her fate.
To risk the lives of those she loves or let the magic consume her.

Hi! I’m the author, Rocio, and I just wanted to take a quick moment to thank any and everybody for reading book two of The Eternal Curse series! It’s been such a rewarding journey writing this series and I hope that Flame in the Silver Storm is as exciting, heartbreaking, and memorable as the first. Happy Reading!
Flame in the Silver Storm takes readers deep into the lands of Serit where kingdoms are on the brink of war and a prophecy threatens to unravel everything. Carranza creates a world full of danger, secrets, and shifting alliances that keeps you turning the pages.
Eve’s journey was the heart of the story. She is struggling to understand herself while fighting against the darkness that seems to follow her. The grimoire in particular was chilling and added to the weight of her choices. Adriana stood out as a character I found fascinating. At times she appeared deceitful, but her complexity and her drive to act for what she believed was the greater good made her a standout presence. Their dynamic together added richness and depth to the novel.
The world building was another highlight. The pirate ship setting gave the book an adventurous energy while still grounding the story in shadows of magic, betrayal, and fate. The atmosphere was tense and heavy with choices that could not be undone.
My one critique is that the pacing was uneven in places. The middle of the book slowed down before rushing toward the end, and a few story beats could have been expanded on for even greater impact. Despite this, the story’s strong character arcs and emotional themes of love, sacrifice, and destiny made it a memorable and worthwhile read.
A gripping and imaginative fantasy that blends dark prophecy, dangerous magic, and heroines who feel real in their struggles and strengths.
So in all honesty what really caught my attention when I had signed up for the ARC was how beautiful the cover was and that there were pirates, sirens, and witches. That automatically caught my attention right off the bat. When I had gotten my email I did receive book one since I was new to this family. The first book I absolutely loved and will definitely go back and re-read. I loved the world and plot building. I loved how it built up for the next book, that’s always my favorite because it helps draw me in a lot faster to the second book. Now with this being let’s talk about book 2.🫶🏼
What made this book really relatable in a sense to me is that Eve (our main girl) is still trying to find her footing. She’s learning to become this stronger person but what I love is that she’s like any of us. Shes needs time and it doesn’t just click into place overnight. She’s a stronger woman within this book, but I love being able to read the progress she makes. I will say I absolutely loved how this book is written in the third person, and that we get multiple POV’s. That is something I’ve always loved in my books.
I absolutely loved when were introduced to a new character, which is captain Amarin (I just think this name is so pretty!!!). I genuinely loved how from this point we are introduced to the pirates and the dangers of the sea. This did give me Pirates of the Caribbean vibes which I absolutely loved. That is my favorite series ever and I constantly watch it. I absolutely loved how there were sirens within this story because yes even in real life for sailers they say it gives the oceans that edgy feeling lol. So this I absolutely loved especially because I feel it can somewhat be related to now. I’ve meet a lot of seamen who believe in all these dangers when traveling across the sea.
I will say we have a character named izan, and reading his parts something about him just felt like…. I just needed to know more about him. He’s so intriguing. For me personally he felt almost like a star waiting for his moment to shine if that makes any sense lol. But I really hope in the next book we do get a bit more about him 🥰
Yes, while reading this book I did shed a few tears which I mean, you have to admit is a good thing because it shows how captivating this book is. That is one thing I will say I genuinely really loved about this book is how it pulls you in. How it makes you feel what this characters are feeling. I will 100% say if you want to read this book, or if I caught your attention please please give this book a read. I genuinely really loved it and will definitely be recommending this to my fellow book friends ♥️
Flame in the Silver Storm is one of those books that thrives on tension rather than spectacle. The political intrigue, shifting alliances, and layered character dynamics are more than enough to make every page riveting. This installment expands the world beautifully, answering some of the mysteries from earlier books while spinning even more intricate threads.
What I loved most was how every POV felt equally compelling. The story plays with dramatic irony so well; you often know more than the characters, which makes their choices all the more heartbreaking to watch unfold. And these characters? They ache, they scheme, they fracture and rebuild in ways that feel raw and real.
Rocio Carranza leans hard into dark topics and gutting emotions, and I honestly love how mercilessly she handles her cast. I mean... it hurt. My heart hurt. But that is something I love in books because I was so invested in what was going on. It’s sad, gloomy, brimming with tension, and woven together like a spiderweb. I couldn't look away.
If you’re the type of reader who craves character-driven drama, political maneuvering, and stories that hurt so good, this series is absolutely for you.
Thanks so much to the author and R&R Booktours for the complimentary copy of both books so that I could read and review. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
Massive shoutout to Rocio Carranza, I signed up for the ARC & was lucky enough to receive one.
The Eternal Curse Book 2 ✨
I prematurely signed up without noticing that it was actually second in a to be continued series 👀 So when I received I had to find Blood of the Blackthorn to get myself up to speed. I have just reviewed that and I rated a solid 4 stars and it ended setting the perfect stage for a second installment having Eve escape by the hairs of her chin after unaliving the 🤴🏽👀
Moving onto A Flame in the Silver Storm, multi-pov following the same characters again with the addition of a couple new faces we:
- Heal from loss - Learn more of the unreliable prophecy - Go sea-bound to escape - Walk the lines of Magic vs. destiny
If I couldn’t really fault Blood of the Blackthorn I honestly say I couldn’t fault this either, it’s always hard going from book 1 to book 2 you either love it more or love it less a bit you know? I really really loved Book 2 it was like a more polished elevated step up from Book 1 and I think it really deserves the 5 stars.
Has all of the Key tropes from Blood of the Blackthorn & I’ll add some extras here that are more specific for A Flame in the Silver Storm
* Prophecy-bound heroine * Pirate Ship Adventure * Grief and vengeance arc * Dangerous magic legacy * Sacrificial love * More sneaky Royal/ Political intrigue * & even more lies, secrets & manipulation?
+ a new love interest 🫣 or 2???
I feel like it’s difficult to review this in its entirety because even though we follow multiple perspectives in both books, it’s definitely deeper in book 2.
I have to say this because it’s a little funny but last night when I finished, it was really late, you know when your just fully immersed in your read and you become unaware of your surroundings, the time, the day lol or maybe that your approaching the end the story? Well that was me 🙋🏻♀️ I got to the last page and went to turn LIKE NOOO WAIT? WHAAAAAT? It also happened to be MIDNIGHT 🕛 HERE I AM THINKING WE ARE JUST ABOUT TO HIT SOME SH*T, but no. Not only did WE end on a cliff-hanger, but so did each of the other characters in their own parts of the story aswell, I was completely caught off guard.
I even messaged the author 🥹
How u do me like that????
Sorry no spoilers from me but if you read this book I would also love to hear your thoughts!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Loved the Plot, Loved the characters and even though I was MAD it ended that is partially my fault, I loved the fact I was left blind-sided at the end nothing like a good ol slap back to reality every now & then.
Rocio replied & said we won’t have to wait long for Book 3, she mentioned Spring however I am in New Zealand 🇳🇿 and our Spring season started…… today hahahaha
So I will wait and look forward to continuing this beautiful series.
A wild fantasy adventure that takes place in three main settings: on the roaring sea, in a dark and damp witches coven, and a mighty kingdom with a tyrant ruler. Flame in the Silver Storm is the second book in the series after Blood of the Blackthorn. This novel picks up right where the first book left off and cranks the action up a dial or two. Eve continues her battle to control and understand her magic with the help of her familiar Dakon and new companions upon the sea. Meanwhile, her estranged sister Clarisa struggles with thoughts of what the future may hold while being manipulated by powerful forces within the witches coven. All the while Princess Adriana struggles for safety along with the citizens within the Kingdom of Givensmir, who under the tyrannical new king suffer hysteria and injustice akin to the Salem witch hunts. This story is told from alternating perspectives of the various main characters which helps the reader understand their inner driving factors and emotions. There are also some flashbacks to events that occurred in the past that help the reader better understand the current events unfolding during the current time of the story. If you were a fan of Blood of the Blackthorn, you will enjoy this novel as well.
This second book in The Eternal Curse series has a steady pacing and new POVs throughout the story.
The plot gets darker and wicked while we travel between different locations. The kingdom of Givensmir, where a mad king rules and murder runs rampant. The Blackthorn, where a sister prepares to do what it takes to obtain the power she needs. And, the sea, aboard a ship, where a whole crew encounters alluring melodies and unstable magic.
Although the plot may slow sometimes, you learn something from each chapter. The betrayals that may come, the vile actions of a tyrannical kingdom, new mythic creatures and more understanding of this magical world.
Rocio graces us with new characters, new romances and new locations throughout the sea. We learn so much more about the goddess Isila and the original witches. There is even a special appearance of an important magical creature for this story.
Flame in the Silver Storm started strong with the escape from our favorite characters Eve, Dakon, Pazel and Beast. Followed with trauma and heartbreaking scenes that made me abhor the monstrous king of the Givensmir realm. And it ended tragically setting the tone for book three.
Thank you Rocio for the opportunity of reading the sequel of BotB. I can't wait for book three to be out!
Eve is still stumbling in this book, and honestly, that made her feel more believable to me. She isn’t suddenly strong or sure of herself, but you can see small changes happening—hesitant steps that make me curious about how she’ll keep growing. It’s messy, but it feels right for where she’s at.
The sirens were such a fun addition. They added a dangerous, unpredictable edge to the sea chapters, and I thought they blended really well with everything already happening in this world. I hope they show up again later because they left an impression.
And then there’s Izan. Every time he appeared, I wanted more. There’s weight to his presence, and the little hints about his past left me full of questions. I kept pausing, wondering what he’s hiding, and I’m hoping the next book finally digs into that.
This sequel didn’t feel like it was trying to tie everything up neatly and I liked that. It gave me enough answers to feel satisfying but also left plenty of threads dangling. It feels like the story is expanding, the stakes are climbing, and I’m more invested now than I was after book one. I’m already impatient for the continuation.
This book had everything you could wish for: witches, sirens, pirates, evil kings and prophecies, to name a few. I absolutely loved it.
I really liked that the story was told from multiple pov, from people around the world, keeping us up to date with everything that was happening. It gave me Game of Thrones vibes in that sense. I liked that the chapters were short as well and enjoyed the pacing of the story.
I loved all of the different parts of the story, the covens, the mortals, all of the magical creatures. I loved Eve’s character development and Izan kept me guessing the entire time. I didn’t know whether to trust him or not.
It was adventurous, tense and emotional. I did shed a tear or two and was gutted by one particular incident. Don’t even get me started on the ending. Every character’s final chapter, I was just sitting there mouth hanging open. It was brilliant, so many cliffhangers. I cannot wait for book 3!
Rocio Carranza has done it again. We pick up immediately where we left off in Blood of the Blackthorn and are sent on a crazy adventure. Clarisa is dealing with the repercussions of her actions, as well as playing a dangerous game with the fates. Adriana is trying to figure out who the villain in the story really is. Eve is running from the life her mother had, and trying to save herself from the call of the Blackthorn.
There were so many POVs but it all was easy to follow and keep up with. The tension was constantly high in this book, with more twists coming by the second. I couldn’t believe that ending! I have so many questions and cannot wait to see what Rocio has in store for these characters in book 3!
This is an action packed continuation to Blood of the Blackthorn. If you like stories in the realm of the Salem Witch Trials and Game of Thrones, then this is definitely the series for you! You've drama, mysteries and secrets, political intrigue, witches, pirates, sirens, reunited sisters and all the drama that comes along with it! Plus unpredictable and unforgettable plot twists that will keep you on your toes!
really liked the last 20% but the rest was a bit slow so I’d say this book suffers from second book syndrome. Thought it was gonna go somewhere and it was the opposite direction—which isn’t like a good or bad thing it just is.
lots of fun witchy stuff in this and a LOT of feminine rage filled with men who are not qualified for their jobs, making enemies of women just because they can. Felt familiar 😀
I’ll probably come back around when book 3 comes out!
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy! Pub day is Sept 30!
I want to start by saying THANK YOU to Rocio for choosing me to be an ARC reader again. This series and the characters hold a special place in my heart.
Onto the book: Firstly..... 🗣️I HATE HATE HATE MARC
But besides that, the first 20% or so I realllly enjoyed getting reacquainted with the characters and reading about what they have done and how they have changed/ grown since book 1.
I loved the sea aspect that included pirates and sirens! It was a cool change up from what I normally read and I really enjoyed it and "meeting" the new characters that were introduced and that became pretty big characters of this book.
I'm so so happy that Callum was a bigger part of the book, and that he had Emilio 🥺 But what's gonna happen to them and Adriana?! And what about Theo?! Also RIP Pedro 💔
All I'll leave you with is that I cannot wait for book 3!!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Where to begin on the second installment of this series? I wasn’t sure what I was signing up for when I saw pirates and witches for this ARC. When given the e-ARC, I was also given the first book, since I was new to The Eternal Curse series. I ended up loving the first book, understanding a lot of it was setting up for more action and moving pieces for the second novel.
When I first opened this ARC, I paused on the dedication page for quite a while. Carranza made a tribute to a specific set of outspoken girls, ones society may dismiss as too tough, who still need support and love. Beautiful.
As a dark fantasy, Flame in the Silver Storm is told in third person with multiple POVs, but Eve is our main girl. As she’s escaped Givensmir with her familiar and friend/apprentice-to-familiar, she definitely doesn’t have her shit together and is a hot mess. A grimoire whispers for her to take its power, she’s not sure what to do with a familiar, and she suddenly has the hots for a pirate healer. They set sail with Captain Amarin, where a new crew sizes her up and trust evaporates once “witch” enters the chat. I loved the introduction of pirates here because we were also introduced to the danger and seductive pull of sirens. There’s a constant, prickling sense that something could go wrong at sea.
I ended up loving Angelina’s chapters, too. The earlier on they gave me shades of Sansa Stark’s chapters in George R.R. Martin’s A Clash of Kings. We have noble girl stuck in the castle of a mad king, but with very different relationships (phew). Through Angelina’s eyes, we peek into Marc’s ruling decisions, how it shakes up court, and how it’s shaking up townspeople. His increasing cruelty is reflected with loosening terminology on witch accusations, amping up hysteria among the common folk, and it shows some delicious portions of politics within the castle. I’m always a sucker for fantasy political intrigue. Give me all the political intrigue. Angelina’s naïveté gets chipped away by hard truths staring her down.
We also watch a few beloved characters just suffer here. I wanted to hug them. It’s heartbreaking to see them go through stretches of unending torment, but it feels purposeful. Major kudos to Carranza for pushing them through these moments; it reads like an essential part of their arcs (I hope).
I know there are other characters I didn’t really touch on, like Dakon trying to understand his role as familiar, Clarisa leaning hard into villainy and justifying every step, but I want to leave some mystery. I really enjoyed the second installment of the series. It ratchets up the stakes and momentum, clearly setting the third installment for epic action and character clashes.
Finding out the author is from Central Texas (my neck of the woods!) makes me even happier to say: support indie, support small, and in my case, support LOCAL. Definitely check this book out!
Thank you to Rocio Carranza for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Returning to this world felt like slipping back into a familiar dream… except the first twenty percent was more like wandering through that dream thinking, “Wait. Who arrrrrrrre you?”
But once my brain finished buffering, everything clicked into place and I was right back in the chaos of witches, kingdoms, politics, and now adding… pirates!
This sequel picks up with Eve fleeing on a pirate ship in search of answers about her magic and the coven that might finally help her. And honestly, the pirate ship vibes deliver! There is something deeply satisfying about a main character trying to unlock the secrets of her lineage while surrounded by a crew who are one wrong breeze away from committing a mutiny, and I was so here for it.
Then comes him.
While docked in a tiny village, Eve meets a dark, shadowy stranger who insists on calling her “Lady” because she refuses to give him her name. The audacity. The mystery. The tension. My reading speed doubled 😏
And the absolute feral cackle I let out when he turned up on the ship as the new healer! Izan, my beloved. I am weak for mysterious men who show up in the least convenient yet perfectly dramatic ways. His vibe is very “I’m dangerous but also capable of fixing your stabbing wound, so choose wisely.”
The story itself expands beautifully. More characters. More perspectives. More magic unfurling across the pages like storm clouds gathering. It feels bigger in every way. You can sense the political pressure building in the background while personal secrets start snapping at everyone’s heels.
Rocio Carranza knows how to layer a plot. This series is one of those epic fantasies where you start mentally creating a flowchart to keep track of alliances and bloodlines, but in the best way. Every thread feels like it is leading somewhere important.
By the end I was fully hooked again, already wondering how this whole mess is going to explode in book three. So many characters. So many agendas. So many unanswered questions.
If you love magic heavy fantasy with sprawling world building, high stakes simmering just beneath the surface, crew dynamics, witches, pirates, mysteries, and a healer who appears exactly when and where you need him… this sequel absolutely delivers!!
And now I’ll just be over here waiting to see who survives the next round of secrets.
Disclaimer: I received an eARC of this book as part of the author's street team. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
First, let me just get this out of the way: *screaming* OH MY GOD ROCIO CARRANZA!!!!!!!
Okay. Now. Whew. Got that out, let's move on to the actual review.
For as much as Blood of the Blackthorn was about world-building and setting up the magic system, Flame in the Silver Storm drops you into the action and doesn't let go. And it's so much the better for it.
Some spoilers for BOTB below.
FISS picks up pretty much where BOTB left off. Marc sits on the Givensmir throne, while Theo, Pedro, Dakon, Pazel, Eve, and Beast are scattered. Theo and Pedro are being kept in the Blackthorn, while Dakon, Pazel, Eve, and Beast have escaped by ship. Adrianna remains in Givensmir.
Having built a strong foundation for the world and magic system, Carranza proceeds to introduce more story elements in this book. There are more magical creatures, more mythology, and more political intrigue. There's also more mystery as new characters emerge with undisclosed motivations. The threads are intricately woven and tie together in some surprising ways. While I sometimes thought there were too many POVs in the first book and not enough time spent on each one, here there are even more POVs, but feel better balanced. Overall, I found Carranza's storytelling in this book to be stronger than the first book.
AND THAT ENDING. My God. There was heartbreak and a new twist that sends the story in a different direction and even though I screamed, I'm still HERE FOR IT.
I think the one thing that prevented me from giving this five stars was the relationship between Eve and Dakon. There was too much miscommunication/lack of communication (my least favorite trope in any genre) that led to unnecessary tension between the two.
I'm ending this review with a reminder, do not get attached to characters. Just don't.
I was a little hesitant to start this book because, if you’ve read the first one, you know how it ended (my poor Callum). The beginning was a bit slow, but around the halfway point, the story really found its rhythm and took off. I appreciated the multiple POVs—they added great depth to the story—but at times they could feel a little distracting. Sometimes, I just want to focus on a few main characters instead of juggling everyone’s perspective. Still, knowing what each character was experiencing (hiding, being lied to about, and or manipulated into) definitely kept me on edge!
As much as I love a good romantic subplot, I was not a fan of how quickly some characters moved on. It felt a bit forced—especially considering they both understood each other’s history with the subject. Personally, I’m hoping those two do not end up together (if you know, you know).
The main character, Eve, occasionally tested my patience with her somewhat “bratty” demeanor. However, considering her royal upbringing, it’s understandable that she lacks certain perspectives and humility. Still, I often found myself wishing she would simply accept her destiny and embrace the grimoire, rather than continuing her constant back-and-forth, which tends to hurt others more than it helps.
The ending absolutely flew by, and I could not put the book down. I was not prepared for the sheer amount of heartache. I thought the first book was rough, but wow—I stand corrected. Now I’m both excited and terrified to see who gets tortured or killed in the final installment.
Overall, this was a captivating and an emotionally charged read that balanced strong plot twists with engaging, layered characters. Each one adds a little something special to the story. I’m already counting down the days until 2026 to witness the inevitable, impending showdown between sisters and enemies.
Huge thanks to the lovely Rocio Carranza for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC!
Thank you so much to the author for sharing an arc of this book. I am brand new to the world of requesting arcs so this will be my very first - and my first review.
Despite having not read the first book - I was very excited to read this. I was able to pick up / figure out most of what I may have missed.
NO SPOILERS: The content and the plot has everything I love; magic, witches, romance and lovers, beasts, war and evil kings / leaders, confusion between characters about who’s dead and who’s alive etc.
I really like that the story is told in multiple POV’s so you can get lots of different ideas about what’s going on and get to know the characters that way.
What I didn’t like was the narrative style. Each character POV is like a chapter and they’re really short - so they swap and change really quickly - but for me, it was too fast. It felt more like this has been written intended to be visual - like a movie or TV series where scenes switch constantly.
That combined with, what I feel, is way too many characters - I didn’t enjoy this read as much as I’d hoped because a) it took a long time to gain any sense of what on earth was going on and b) there were so many names of characters mentioned that I couldn’t work out who anybody was until well into the end (again that may have been more of an issue as I hadn’t read book 1).
Furthermore - the book is mostly written in dialogue so there’s limited descriptions of setting or real character development. For me - it just lacked depth. Everything was very surface level and I think the author tries to get too much of a complex story in without taking the time to do so.
Sadly - it wasn’t for me. But if you read and loved book one; definitely pick it up.
Just like the first book in the eternal curse series this book is sooo good!
Flame in the Silver Storm is a book with even more intrigues, betrayals and power hunger! We have our new really mad king and the witch hunt in the mortal kingdom is becoming just madness. As with all good mad kings, fear and lies reign. But he is not the only power hungry person because some of the witches also want the reign over all kingdoms.
While Eve seeks answers she has to learn how to control her magic and face the grimoire. Her familiar and their friend travel with her on Amarin's pirate ship but secrecy and reticence make it hard to build trust and form a bond. I love the pirates - they are funny and likable. I am really happy that Amarin's story is also part of this book because I really like him!
Clarisa struggles with her path and feelings. Will she fall into the darkness? Will the oracle consume her?
The mood in this book is darker than in the first. The world falls into madness, manipulations and power hunger. It is a must-read ♡
tropes: ● witches ● villains you love to hate ● secrets & betrayals ● mysterious pirates ● political intrigues ● pet companion ● found family ● mad kings ● seductive sirens
If you thought the journey was going to be smooth sailing... think again!
Overall, this book keeps the tension from the first one going, but adding a new scenario: the sea. The multiple POVs continue to add richness and depth to the story but the ones I felt for the most were the ones from Clarisa and Eve.
Clarisa is walking a razor’s edge between who she was and the weapon everyone wants her to be. Eve is running across the sea with a sentient grimoire bound to her by blood. Its thorny magic scars her skin and whispers promises of unstoppable power—but every step she takes to resist it tests her humanity.
Rocio Carranza sets the sisters on parallel paths—one sinking into the violence of her magic, the other struggling to resist the darkness inside her.
And even though the book keeps the tension simmering all the way through, there’s one character whose personality shines even in the most darkest of situations: Pazel, the Joey Tribbiani of this book, and a true friend through and through. I feel like Pazel would also say: “That’s right, I stepped up! She’s my friend and she needed help. If I had to, I’d pee on any one of you!”
I received an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.
Quick Summary 🪽This book masterfully intertwines multiple POVs and emotionally complex relationships, especially between the sisters. It delivers jaw dropping twists, layered characters, and a romance that defies expectations.
Reading Thoughts 📓The multiple POV’s are awesome, they are all fighting their own battles but are still intertwined together 📓The struggles the sisters have with how to feel about each other was so interesting 📓This series just keeps ramping up, the last third of this book I could not put it down. 📓All the characters have so many layers and is so enthralling to uncover them. 📓This book has some twists that will have you squirming 📓Don’t want to give it away but the romance in this is not what you expect but still soo good.
Thoughts that linger 🍷Perhaps, one day, their story would be told and revered throughout the kingdom. 🍷“I can’t imagine begging, especially for you.” “Oh, Lady, you will before this journey is done. I guarantee it.” 🍷“Love has many forms. It is not singular.”
Tropes ⏳Witches ⏳Political intrigue ⏳Sirens ⏳Forced Proximity ⏳Pirates
I am very happy to have received this ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!
Oh my goodness!!!! How I am supposed to wait for book 3 with that cliffhanger. I need to know what happens next!!!!!!!!
Magic, sirens, pirates, witches!!! It’s like every Pirates of the Caribbean concept perfectly rolled into a book!! I’m obsessed!!!!
So after reading the second book-I think I can say that multiple POV is becoming my new favorite thing!! I really like that I get to know what happens to the characters as the book progresses. I always hated when I only got a snippet of what happened because the book was in someone else’s POV!!!
Now I have seen some other opinions but I love Izan. He’s mysterious and hot. Like what more do I need lol the only thing I’m not a fan of is this growing “romance” between Eve and Dakon. I just don’t get the vibes there. I know Eve is the witch and Dakon is the familiar but I don’t get romance vibes and I don’t want romance vibes. It could be good depending on where it goes in book 3 but I’m holding out for some Izan and Eve endgame but who knows!!!!
I can’t wait for the next book!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
“Women like you will always burn before men like me.” do they really?
Looking for a dark fantasy read? This book should be your first choice. Witches, sirens, obscure folklore/ambiance and a touch of romance? Think Twisted Crowns but darker and more mature. I was truly honored to be an arc reader for this book. I read the two volumes fast since I couldn't let the characters down (Dakon, my sweet baby, and Eve, tormented yet so strong...). Just letting you know, I hope you're prepared to suffer a lot during that second volume. The author has a fascinating writing and the plot is intricate yet not too difficult to understand. I loved learning about witches history and their beliefs, and following the different POVs. Not once did I felt bored. I only wish there had been more physical descriptions of the characters, as it helps me to get fully into the story. Also, fuck you, Marc. I hope this series get the fame and recognition it deserves and I can't wait to read the next book. Well done, Rocio !
I gave this book 4 stars, and honestly, it was such an enjoyable read! One of my favorite things about Flame in the Silver Storm was the stunning character art scattered throughout the eARC– it really brought the characters to life and made the whole experience feel more special. It’s such a unique touch that made me slow down and take in every detail.
I also loved that we got more backstory into Lucia’s past. She’s been one of the characters I’ve been most curious about!
Throughout the book the pacing was a bit uneven for me. Some sections felt a little slow and took me a while to get through, but then the last 10% of the book completely took off. It was intense, emotional, and had me absolutely hooked until the very last page.
Overall, this was such a great installment. If it weren’t for those slower sections, this would have easily been a 5-star read for me. I’m really excited to see where the series goes next because if the ending of this book was anything to go by, things are about to get very interesting!
As the second installment in Rocio Carranza’s dark and emotionally intense series, Flame in the Silver Storm delivers a gripping continuation—but be warned: this is not a standalone. You must read the first book to understand the characters, world, and plot dynamics. Jumping in here will likely leave you lost.
That said, if you've read book one, you're in for a treat. This sequel dives deeper into a world of magic, witches, sirens, and covens, weaving together a complex web of betrayal, torment, and plot twists that keep the pages turning. The emotional depth is palpable throughout—Carranza doesn’t hold back when it comes to exploring pain, loyalty, and inner conflict.
The atmosphere remains dark and immersive, with stakes that feel higher and more personal. While the pacing can feel a bit heavy in places, the payoff is worth it, especially for those invested in the characters' fates.
Overall, a strong continuation that balances world-building with raw emotional storytelling. Just make sure you start at the beginning.
I received an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This book is much darker than the first, in my opinion, but I think it needs to be with the path the characters are going down. It picks up right where the first book left off, we have some new POVs added in, and whilst we're still seeing events develop and progress in the kings court and the land of the witches, we're also out on the open sea with a group of pirates.
I really enjoyed the journey I went on with the main character, Eve, as she comes to terms with the events of the previous book, travels with a group of pirates, and tries to learn more about her powers. I liked how she isn't immediately proficient and is just trying to figure it all out whilst battling internally with accepting who she is.
Where the first book focused more on political intrigue, betrayal, and uncovering the past, this second book is more around some of our characters learning their powers, trust, and forging a path into the future. We still have the courtly politics happening, as we watch through the eyes of one of our character POVs the tyrannical rule of a mad king, but we also now get pirates and sirens and a deeper dive into witchcraft and the world.
I really enjoyed reading this book, probably more than the first, and I cannot wait for the third and final instalment of this series to see where our characters go next and what they do following the events of this book.
Just WOW. After a bit of a slow start to the first book, you can tell the author found their voice in the second. With multiple POV’s and a focus on our main character Eve, you can really start to understand the world and characters. It includes all the tropes I love :
- Forced Proximity - Feminine Rage - Found Family - Witches & Pirates - And MAGIC!
Finding out more about Eve’s familiar Dakon, the princess Adriana and the betrayal of her brother Marc, exploring more of the world of Serit, the absolute knife to the heart the was the ending of this book - it all came together so well. The character growth and development of he main character alone was enough to keep me hooked. Eve needs to make a decision that I think all of us would struggle with, and I can’t wait to read what happens next! A fantastic read and I will be continuing the series with the third book!!
“To risk the lives of those she loves or let the magic consume her.”
This book is perfect if you like: medieval witchy vibes, magic & witchcraft, forbidden love & multiple POV.
Think Pirates of the Caribbean: but DARKER & Grittier
The world building is extremely vivid and in depth- the author clearly has invested a lot of time in the lore of Serif and making it as realistic as possible. Blood of the Blackthorn has a slow pace build up in the first half of the book with great atmospheric setting, this build up is an excellent base for the finish of the book and the steamroller of emotions I felt in the last 100 pages. The steamroller of all the feels then plunges onwards into new depths In the Flame in the Silver Storm.
Flame in the Silver Storm as a book is a masterpiece and how it expertly builds on Blood of the Blackthorn. The tension is everything and I love how some of the mysteries of the first book are tied up and explained nicely in this one.
The conclusion is satisfying and bittersweet- I’m excited for the possibility of a third book?
This book continues from the first book as the war between witches and mortals escalates, and the characters become more spread out as they deal with the repercussions of the conflict.
Fellas, if there is one thing you need to know about this series, it is that you should not get attached to characters. I found the last book dark, but this one was particularly brutal, with multiple characters imprisoned and tortured throughout and characters dying left, right and center. We also see the addition of some more characters that will probably play a part in the future installments of the series. Like the first, this book moves FAST, and I felt like I could barely keep up. I was a bit confused with the romance in this book but I think that is a case of things becoming more clear later on.
I think the first book was stronger, but I am still looking forward to reading book three when it comes out.
I received an ARC of Flame in the Silver Storm without realizing it was Book Two. After quickly reading Book One, Blood of Blackthorn, I completely fell in love with the characters and the story. This sequel picks up right where the first left off, keeping you on edge as you worry about the fate of Eve and Clarissa.
The book strikes a great balance of action, mystery, and romance. While it isn’t heavy on romance, the uncertainty of who the main female character will ultimately end up with keeps you invested. I also enjoyed the multiple character points of view, which not only deepen the story but also reveal pieces of the past alongside the present.
What stood out most to me was how the author brings fresh perspective to familiar magical concepts found in fantasy. This book has it all—pirates, sirens, forbidden magic, witches, and unexpected love interests. I truly can’t wait for the next installment!
