Wren is an Egyptologist and writes historical fantasy romance, historical romance and contemporary romance. She lives with her husband six mad Bengal Cats and one confused Mini Schnauzer in Brisbane. She also manages a website devoted to ancient Egypt and writing called Egyptian Mysteries www.egyptianmysteries.com.au
So I read one of Wren St. Claire's books in Mar, 2023 but hated it and returned it. I see now that she is with Dragonblade Publishing, Flame division which many of my favorite authors are with. I thought I'd check her out again. Maybe having a different publishing house with different editors and such, would make for a better read. I do have to say I really liked Book 1. Hope that pattern keeps going.
Well I wasn't as impressed with this one. I did like the storyline but wasn't a huge fan of Emrys and Annis. It had nothing to do with their "classes" and they seemed nice enough but Annis was a bit boring and I thought Emrys was a bit strange. I just wasn't blown away by their relationship or their chemistry which didn't seem like much to me. Overall it was still a decent read. Like I said, I liked the premise of the story. It made it interesting.
I greatly enjoyed both the mystery and live story! Annis has such an unusual story. I enjoyed trying to figure it out. Her strength is absolutely amazing. Emrys is a sweetheart. His insecurity is endearing and his honesty and willingness is very special.
I was waiting for Emrys’s story since I read Robert’s and Sarah’s, so was thrilled to see this pop up on NetGalley! This would be better if you had read an Inconvenient Marriage, but can absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone.
The novel is about a lovable disheveled Emrys, who is nursing a broken heart from his dead wife’s betrayal and a governess with a secret - Annis. The story is full of sweet, tender moments. Emrys is an unconventional hero - soft as a teddy bear, but also protective and sensitive. Annis completes him perfectly and they also steam up some windows (seriously, this book is hot, so get some ice!).
There is also some mystery woven in, which makes for a delightful interlude. The characters from the previous (and future I assume!) book are making an appearance.
Thanks to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for this ARC and Wren St. Claire for her wonderful writing!
“The Viscount Needs a Wife” is book two in Wren St. Claire’s series All for Love. The Viscount in this story is Emrys Fitzgerald, Viscount Ashford. He was introduced in the first book in the series as a close friend of the duke’s. Emrys is a widower with three young children. Before his wife died, she had betrayed Emrys with another member of the ton, then she died in a carriage accident while on the continent. Emrys is a very well written character, he is very likable, easy going, gentle, he loves and actively cares for his children, he is a true gentleman. The woman who sparks his interest is governess Annis Pringle. Annis is a very smart, even tempered woman, but, she is keeping her origins a secret as well as the longtime threats from an unknown man who is after her father’s ring and her continued silence. I liked Annis, she is spunky in spirit and strong willed. She is a survivor. Annis and Emrys get to know one another at the Duke and Duchess of Troubridge’s summer house party. At first, Emrys lusts after Annis, but soon they got to know one another on a deeper level. I enjoyed these two characters who truly belonged together. Emrys’ three children played a prominent role in this story which was necessary. The relationship Emrys had with his children was an important part of his character development. The children were also the bridge that connected Emrys with the governess. The question of Annis’ birth and parentage added another emotional element and added interest to the story. The intimate relationship between these two main characters is open door, steamy, passionate, erotic, and well written within the context of the story. Emrys’ need for Annis and is near constant, when they come together, Annis was able to soothe Emrys’ body, mind, and soul after the harsh treatment from his former wife. Overall, the story is well written, however, the pacing does get bogged down a little about three quarters of the way through. Ms. St. Claire is doing a wonderful job building a cohesive world in this series, All for Love, and creating interesting characters as the inhabitants, both children and adults, and both morally good and morally bad. It is important to note the books in this series can be read as standalone stories.
I was given a copy of this book by NetGallery, my thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
The Viscount Needs a Wife by Wren St. Claire All for Love #2
~ Attraction across class division sees a widowed viscount marry a governess with a secret ~ Will the three small children who need them along with their mutual attraction be enough? ~
What I liked: * Annis Pringle: governess, stalked & threatened, has a secret, resilient, bright, caring, protective, attracted to Emrys * Emrys Fitgerald: viscount, widow, single parent, cuckolded, perhaps a cinnamon roll hero, loving, protective, kind, good friend, attracted to Annis * The children of Emrys: Lizzie, Charlotte, and Ewen – range in age from 3-8, dealing with fears related to the loss of their mother * The secondary plot regarding who Annis’s father might be, why she is being threatened, and how it will all work out * The four men that I believe this series is centered around: Robert, Jerome, Deo & Emrys * The women that supported Annis, some may be in books of their own * That this felt of the period * Being able to read this book without having read book one of the series * That it was easy to read, the main characters were in synch with one another, the communication was open and honest, supporting characters were there for one another, and I could see Annis and Emrys happy together in the present and later in their future * That there were no strings left dangling though there are two men left to find their mates
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * The persons that were threatening the Pringle women ~ They got off easier than I thought they should * Thinking about how a woman could leave her husband and children or how a father could keep his son from the woman and child he loved
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Maybe, if the synopsis sounded interesting
Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Filing an ARC today: The Viscount Needs a Wife by Wren St. Claire – a regency of secrets, longing, and one surprisingly wolfish single dad.
Troubridge estate is atwitter over the widowed Viscount Ashford's arrival with his three children while he is still nursing a heart broken by betrayal. What he doesn't expect is to find himself distracted (quite thoroughly) by the Troubridges' governess, Miss Annis Pringle. Behind her prim exterior lies a secret that could endanger them both, but perhaps also the chance for redemption, passion, and something resembling love.
Now, my thoughts: While not a bad book by any means, this one just didn't quite hit the spot for me. The tropes were all right up my alley (single dad, class difference, wolfish but soft MMC) and the spice delivered. But for some reason, I just couldn't fully sink into it.
The writing wasn't bad, but it didn't flow in a way that pulled me in easily. It might simply have been my reading mood; on a different day, this could have possibly worked better for me. I also suspect I'd have enjoyed it more had I read the first book in the series.
If you love regency romance, protective MMCs, and governess FMCs with hidden strength, this may be right up your alley. It just wasn't quite my moment for it.
After enjoying the first book in Wren St. Claire's amazing All for Love series, I was looking forward to the next. Especially since it was going to be about that sweet teddy bear viscount, Emrys Fitzgerald. Life hasn't turned out the way Emrys thought it would. He's having a rough time healing from the heartbreak of the betrayal of his wife, and the circumstances of her death. He's also navigating the rough waters of being a full time parent to his three spirited children. To help Emrys and his family, the Duke & Duchess of Troubridge (the couple in book 1) invite them to come spend the summer.
The children and Emrys are enveloped within the nurturing sphere of Miss Annis Pringle, the governess to the Duke of Troubridge's sisters. It was so lovely to see how they quickly bonded. Like pieces of a puzzle. There were concerns and some angst with Annis worrying about her past secrets, or Emrys worrying about their age difference but I loved how they would communicate and resolve things together. It was a really beautiful story about two people forming a healthy relationship and a family growing together. It made me smile. Plus, the spice was very nice. I like a protective teddy bear hero who is also a lusty wolf in the bedroom.
Thank you NetGalley & DragonBlade Publishers for the ARC. My reviews are my own opinions of what I have read.
This was a warm, emotional, and surprisingly spicy historical romance with a charming mix of family moments, danger, and slow-building love. Emrys Fitzgerald, Viscount Ashford, is a widower still hurting from his late wife’s betrayal. Hoping to lift his spirits, his friends invite him and his children to their country estate for the summer. There, he meets Miss Annis Pringle, the governess—quiet, proper, and unexpectedly captivating. Emrys doesn’t expect to feel anything again, yet Annis stirs emotions he thought were gone forever. But Annis carries a painful secret from her past, and when that past catches up with her, the story takes a suspenseful turn. Emrys must decide whether he can truly protect her and open his heart again—not just for himself, but for his children too. The romance is tender and passionate, with plenty of sweet family scenes, cute kid moments, and some very hot open-door encounters. The tropes—single dad, governess heroine, class difference, and marriage of convenience—are all used in a fun and satisfying way. Overall, it’s a heartfelt, steamy read with danger, comfort, and a hero who’s much braver than he believes. I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing and am voluntarily leaving my review.
The Viscount Needs a Wife is book two from Wren St. Claire in All for Love series. The main characters are Miss Annis Pringle, the governess to the Duke of Troubridge's sisters and Emys Fitzgerald, Viscount Ashford. He is a widower with three young children. His wife was having an affair prior to her death in a carriage accident. She was leaving Emys for her lover. He was not aware she was having an affair and was deeply shocked and disillusioned. He is a scruffy, lovable man who is very much involved in the lives of his children and is easy going.
At the Duke and Duchess of Troubridge’s house party, Emys arrives with his three children. There he meets Miss Annis Pringle who is beautiful, spunky, hardworking, and dedicated to her charges. Her birth right and parentage are kept a close secret, while she tries to solve the mystery.
The two get together while at the house party and the attraction while first physical later develops to something more lasting. Was a little slow for me and I could not seem to get into the story though I tried several times. I received an ARC from Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and submit my honest review voluntarily.

I loved this story and a father’s love for his children! I received an ARC copy for my unbiased opinion!
my first from this author but will definitely not be the last. The mmc is a freaking clingy golden retriever who is just so good and adorable with his children. He craves cuddles people, cuddles. Oh my, how cute is that. And the mmc is a kind, strong, intelligent woman who just found the mmc and his kids really adorable. I actually loved the kids, they weren't annoying at all.
The romance was so good! And I just loved how their relationship progressed from mere acquaintance, to friends, to lovers. And oh myyy they were just so sweet and kind to each other because they just understand that the other have already went through a lot in their lives so they want to be each other's home and rest. Liked the mystery of the fmc's birth as well but really sad how it ended, it was truly tragic.
That ending was real nice. This was really a fun, enjoyable, romantic read I enjoyed, just took me some time to finish it since I currently have a lot of things going on in my life. Looking forward for more from this author!
What a beautiful story! I absolutely love Emrys. He is a perfect Beta MMC. He is like a big, cuddly teddy bear. In a world of so many Alphas, this man is needed. He provided unending love and loyalty to his children and to Annis. He was a gentleman, but not a pushover. He fiercely defended and protected those he loved without being rash or cruel. He was utter perfection.
Annis was also a beautiful FMC. She was hard working and kind hearted. These qualities (among others) can be overlooked or downplayed in pop culture, but the author wrote a most compelling and engaging piece with these honorable qualities- without it being boring.
There was also plenty of spice to keep things jumping. It certainly did not lack there.
While I did feel things moved a little slow in the middle of the story, it was a worthwhile read. It was beautiful and moving. You can’t help but smile while reading it.
I couldn't help but fall in love with the rather unconventional Viscount Ashford, as he struggled with the loss of his wife, the need to ensure that his children were well taken care of, and his abhorrence of being confined in snug-fitting clothing. Through the author's descriptive passages, I was able to see a scruffy, but delightful man emerge through the pages. Annis Pringle is fighting her own battles and is hiding behind her role as a governess to the Troubridge children, but when danger arrives on their doorstep, she does whatever it takes to ensure the safety of the household. That is when Emrys finally realizes that while his children need a mother, he needs Annis to be whole once again, as her warm and generous nature encompasses them and brings healing. The novel is a standalone and comes to a sweet conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
The Viscount Needs a Wife by Wren St Claire is the second book in the All for Love. It is an historical romance that is steamy and contains characters that are of different classes. On top of that there seems to be an issue with the governess, Miss Annis Pringle and her past.
Emrys Fitzgerald, Viscount Ashford needs a wife. His wife died recently and his children need a mother. To help him out, friends reach out to invite him to their country estate for a summer vacation. He is drawn to Annis and thinks she would be open to a marriage of convenience and help him raise his children and eventually add more children to their family. His children play a prime role in this book so there are some really cute scenes along with hot scenes from Emrys and Annis.
The novel is interesting and contains a subplot that adds to the suspense. I enjoyed Annis and Emrys’ courtship. The Viscount Needs A Wife by Wren St. Claire is a good read.
Definite improvement on the first in the series! I was consistently interested and understood the main characters a lot more. Annis is like god’s strongest soldier in my eyes, she really gets put in some bummer situations in the story and never complains, especially in regards to her marriage. I still liked Ashford from the first book, but he surprised me in both good and bad ways. Probably one of the most lustful characters I’ve read and that’s really saying something. This book is unique because this is really all happening mere months after his first wife died. I didn’t love how often he compared the two women, but it made sense for his mourning and growth. Appropriately messy is what I’d call it.
Lovely story about a widowed viscount and the governess of one of his friends. The viscount had three young precious and precocious children himself. Soon the viscount and governess were greatly enamored of each other and the viscount had persuaded her to wed him. She had many reasons to decline, not least of which was the difference in their stations in life. There was also suspense and mystery, a violent stalker threatening our heroine. All in all a very steamy romance with all kinds of complications. Wren St. Claire does a splendid job of grabbing our attention and keeping it until she brings the mystery to a resolution and the love story to a happily ever after. Well done!!!
Viscount Emrys Fitzgerald has lived on pride and duty for years... widowed, raising three children, and guarding his heart from further pain. Enter his unexpected match-maker: the lively and independent woman who challenges his walls, his prejudices, and his notion of what a family can be.
Wren St. Claire writes with elegance and emotion, offering rich Regency atmosphere while keeping the characters grounded. The romance unfolds with initial resistance, mutual respect, growing attraction, and then deeper vulnerability.
TVNaW is a stylish, emotionally resonant Regency romance that satisfies both the heart and the setting. If you enjoy historicals with strong character arcs, slow-burn chemistry and a hero who learns to trust again, this is a compelling choice.
A Governess with Secrets | A Viscount with a Broken Heart | Was Love the Answer to Their Pain? Emrys’s wife betrayed him, and when she left, a tragic accident took her life. Two losses in one left him convinced he would never love again. But while visiting friends, he finds himself unable to stop thinking about their governess. Annis has a dangerous secret and knows she must leave before it puts others at risk. What she doesn’t expect is to find a champion in Emrys. His friends are kind, and Emrys himself proves to be more supportive than she ever imagined. Emrys needs a mother for his children—but can he convince Annis to marry him? And if he does, can a marriage of convenience turn into something real? I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
A recent widower the Viscount Ashford has taken his 3 children to visit his friend Robert, the Duke of Throubridge. Where he finds himself really taken by the governess...I mean like REALLY really taken. lol. Some of his internal dialogue is rather lusty. Annis the governess is really great at her job, but she's hiding something from her past. A stalker determined to get something that was left to her causes her to make a decision that ends up having the Viscount step in.
Overall the mystery was interesting, however the romance was just okay. I didn't really feel the chemistry between the two main characters.
Emrys Fitzgerald, Viscount Ashford adores his three children. The tragedy of losing their mother has left a lot of uncertainty. Visiting the Castle of his friend the Duke of Troubridge, Emrys is unsettled by his attraction to the governess, Miss Annis Pringle. As he spends more time around her, the sexual attraction is about to explode. In a moment of passion, Emrys realizes nothing will do and asks her to be his wife. Annis wants to say yes, but she has a secret that could put he and the children in danger. Lots of laughs and giggles with three families of siblings and children. Erotic sex. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
The MMC is a widower, his last wife cheated on him before she died while running away with her lover. The FMC is a governess for the MMCs friend. She grew up believing she was illegitimate and is afraid of someone who has threatened her in the past. They fall in love but she doesn't think she is worthy of him, because of her background. But when they find out more about her past will that change her mind and will they find out who has been threatening her.
I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend reading it.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Four months ago, Emrys discovered his wife was unfaithful and having an affair. She moved out, ran off with her lover and died three months ago. He is a viscount and a father to three young kids.
Annis is a governess and has a stalker. Why they are named Emrys and Annis is beyond me, as their names are too similar. I liked Emrys, who is a good dad and was a good husband. That he's so newly cheated on and widowed was a bit much. Like it was a few months. But Annis and Emrys were a good match, all things considered.
This was a warm, emotional, and surprisingly spicy historical romance with a charming mix of family moments, danger, and slow-building love. The romance is tender and passionate, featuring plenty of sweet family scenes, adorable kid moments, and some very steamy open-door encounters. The tropes, single dad, governess heroine, class difference, and marriage of convenience, are all used in a fun and satisfying way. Overall, it’s a heartfelt, steamy read with danger, comfort, and a hero who’s much braver than he believes.
I was lucky enough to be able to read an ARC copy of this novel through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Was such a sweet story with lots of mini stories in it. Which was a 50/50 split in keeping me engaged whilst also leaving me feeling like the story was coming to a close when it wasn’t yet. I absolutely adored Annis’ relationship with her step kids and how much of a lovely rolemodel she was for them.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I thought this was as good as the previous book but perhaps a little more quick on the romance front and maybe a little less interesting when it came to the dynamic between the 2 MCs. I would have been good if there was more conflict besides the external one. I’m curious about the remaining novels as those characters seem more complex than what we’ve gotten so far.
This is an unusual historical romance. The person who accidentally caused most of the problems in the story is not actually in it very much. But we need his history to solve the problem. There is also a surprisingly mild resolution. Our heroine is a governess with secrets in her past. Our hero is a widower with three small children who are still coming to terms with the loss of their mother. An emotional, and steamy tale with fabulous characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great fun.
This story has a little more steam than I usually like, but I do love stories with governesses and children. The FMC is a governess with a secret and someone threatening her. The MMC is a true gentleman who I instantly liked. He is a widow who was deceived by his late wife. He is involved with his children and they play a part in the story. They meet at his friend’s home where she works. How they connect and he helps her makes for a good tale.
Hmm…first read by this author and I wasn’t too impressed. The storyline started off good and intriguing but then it just declined with a lot of useless information and miscellaneous chit chat. The hero cries often for my taste lol and they constantly talked about or brought up his deceased wife. The ending just seemed rushed also. Lots of sex though as the hero act like he been celibate for a decades gee wiz.
Emrys, Viscount Ashford, was betrayed by his wife. She left him and shortly afterwards she was killed, which left him with 3 children. The family were invited to visit a friend’s estate where they met Annis , a governess. Annis had a secret, but she did not have all the details. The story became a mystery, which Annis and Emrys solved before the happy ending. I found the diary entries very confusing until the explanation at the end.
