He is meant to watch Elunara. Use her. Break her if the queen commands it.
Instead, the closer he gets, the more impossible she becomes to betray.
Forced into each other’s path, Elunara and Kaelen are drawn into a bond that should never exist. Every touch burns hotter. Every secret tightens the snare. Every vision pulls them closer to a fate written in ash, blood, and dragon fire.
The prophecy wants obedience.
The queen wants control.
But Elunara was never made to kneel, and Kaelen’s fire was never meant to belong to another.
To survive, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice.
Their kingdoms.
Their souls.
Or the love that could destroy them both.

Ashen Moon is a dark romantasy of cursed fire, dangerous magic, and passion that refuses to burn quietly.
I write stories for readers who crave the edge: action-packed, emotionally raw, and a little unhinged. My worlds rise from the bones of ancient magic, fractured loyalties, savage desire, and wild, impossible love. Humor, sarcasm, heartbreak, and heat live beside danger in every tale. If you want romance that bites back and leaves you breathless, you have found your author. Welcome to the wild side.
This book is an amazing book. It pulls you in to Elunara and Kalens world so fully that you won’t want to put it down. Thank you Zoey Frost for allowing me to advanced read this work of art!
A great love story that’s trying desperately to survive the destruction from a queen who wants to own them for their powers and strengths. A love that shows the need to fight for the RIGHT in us and not the WRONG and the importance of what your CHOICE will bring to the end if you survive it. Loved the way the writer is so descriptive that you can see and feel this world around you as you live it with the characters. Lots of suspense, twisted turns and intense emotions with love at the center of it all .
Elunara, a formidable witch, finds her existence perpetually threatened by those who covet her unique and perilous gift: dream walking visions. These visions, both a blessing and a curse, reveal truths and futures that others desperately seek to control, making her a constant target for powerful factions and dark sorcerers. Driven by an unrelenting need for refuge from the relentless pursuit, she embarks on a desperate journey back to the ancient, crumbling stronghold of her ancestors. This forgotten fortress, shrouded in forgotten lore and whispers of forgotten magic, holds the promise of sanctuary, a place where her abilities might finally be her own.
However, her arrival at the stronghold unearths more than just a haven. She discovers a hidden darkness festering within its ancient walls, a sinister presence that has long lain dormant. It is within this rediscovered gloom that she encounters Kaelen, a mysterious stranger whose presence both unnerves and fascinates her. Unbeknownst to Elunara, Kaelen is no ordinary man. He is a powerful dragon shifter, bound by an unbreakable oath to a ruthless queen, a monarch whose ambition knows no bounds and who has ordered Kaelen to capture Elunara. The queen seeks to harness Elunara's dream walking power for her own nefarious ends, believing it to be the key to ultimate dominion.
Yet, destiny, or perhaps a more ancient magic, has woven a different path for Kaelen. As he gazes upon Elunara, a profound recognition stirs within him. She is the woman who has haunted his dreams for years, a recurring vision of beauty, power, and an undeniable connection. This revelation ignites a fierce desire within him, a yearning that directly challenges his unyielding loyalty to his queen. The forbidden connection that blossoms between them, born from shared dreams and an undeniable, fervent passion, is a dangerous transgression in a world teeming with enemies. Their bond is a defiance of the established order, a beacon of hope and rebellion in a landscape dominated by fear and control.
As their perilous relationship deepens, they find themselves ensnared in a web of ancient prophecies, their fates seemingly intertwined with forgotten destinies. The Queen's relentless pursuit intensifies, her agents closing in with ruthless efficiency, while shadowy forces, long dormant within the stronghold and beyond, begin to stir. These unseen enemies, drawn by the potent magic that radiates from Elunara and Kaelen's developing bond, seek to exploit their power or extinguish it entirely. Surrounded by these converging threats, their dangerous and defiant bond may prove to be their only hope for survival against the encroaching darkness. It is a bond forged in defiance, strengthened by shared peril, and destined to challenge the very fabric of their world.
This paranormal mystery offers compelling suspense and excellent writing, ensuring you'll be captivated throughout.
Ashen Moon: Forged In Prophecy, Crowned In Ash is a dark fantasy romance that thrives on intensity, emotional, magical, and relational, pulling readers into a world where fate feels suffocating and desire is just as dangerous as prophecy.
At the heart of the story is Elunara, a dreamwalking witch whose visions blur the line between nightmare and inevitability. Her power doesn’t just set her apart, it isolates her, forcing her to question whether she’s shaping the future or merely witnessing something she can’t escape. That uncertainty becomes one of the novel’s strongest driving forces, giving her character a constant edge of vulnerability beneath her strength.
Kaelen provides a powerful contrast. As a dragon shifter bound to the Ashen Queen, his struggle is rooted not in uncertainty, but in control, his fire, his loyalty, and even his choices are not entirely his own. His internal conflict deepens as his mission to betray Elunara begins to fracture under the weight of a connection he never anticipated.
Their relationship is the core of the novel and it burns.
The enemies-to-lovers dynamic is immediate and intense, built on tension that never fully resolves into safety. What makes it compelling is the constant presence of risk: every moment of closeness carries the possibility of betrayal. The bond between them feels both fated and forbidden, reinforcing the novel’s central tension between destiny and defiance.
The world itself supports this emotional core well. The looming presence of the Ashen Queen adds a sense of oppressive power, while the hints of political unrest and hidden danger create a backdrop where nothing is as stable as it seems. There’s a persistent feeling that everything, peace, loyalty, even identity, is fragile and on the verge of collapse.
Where the book will resonate most strongly is with readers who enjoy high, intensity storytelling. The romance is passionate and fast moving, the stakes are consistently elevated, and the tone leans unapologetically toward dark, dramatic, and emotionally charged moments. For fans of steamy fantasy romance, this is exactly the kind of immersive, consuming experience they look for.
However, readers who prefer slower character development or more gradual romantic progression may find the pacing a bit rushed in places. The story prioritizes emotional immediacy over restraint, which works for its genre but may not suit every reading preference.
There’s something about the way Zoey Frost writes Elunara and Kaelen that feels intense in a quiet, consuming way. It’s not just the magic or the prophecy, it’s the emotional pull between two people who were never supposed to choose each other… but do anyway.
Elunara’s journey hit me the most. She’s not just “strong” she’s carrying fear, confusion, and destiny all at once, and still refuses to be controlled by it. And Kaelen? That internal conflict, that slow unraveling of loyalty versus desire, it was so well done.
Their connection isn’t rushed. It burns. Slowly. Painfully. Beautifully.
The world feels heavy with tension, like something is always about to break and when it does, it matters. Add in the Ashen Queen looming in the background, and there’s this constant sense of danger that never really lets go.
This isn’t just a fantasy romance it’s about choice, fate, and what it costs to follow your heart when the world is set against you.
A dark, addictive fantasy with powerful characters and intense chemistry.
Elunara is a fierce, vision haunted heroine, and Kaelen brings all the brooding, conflicted dragon-shifter energy you could want. Their enemies to lovers dynamic is slow burn perfection full of tension, emotion, and high stakes.
Strong world building, a compelling villain, and just the right amount of heat 🔥
Perfect for fans of dark fantasy romance and fated, forbidden love.

Just finished Ashen Moon by Zoey Frost and wow… this one burns slow and deep
Elunara and Kaelen?? The tension?? The emotional pull?? I was hooked.
If you love intense fantasy romance with real chemistry and a touch of danger, this is 100% worth it.
If you love stories where passion collides with destiny, Ashen Moon: Forged In Prophecy, Crowned In Ash delivers a powerful, emotionally charged experience.
Zoey Frost creates a world where magic feels dangerous, love feels forbidden, and every choice carries weight. Elunara and Kaelen’s story is filled with tension, sacrifice, and a connection that refuses to be ignored.
Ashen Moon: Forged In Prophecy, Crowned In Ash delivers exactly what dark fantasy romance readers come for but with just enough emotional tension and character conflict to keep it from feeling formulaic.
What works best here is the dynamic between Elunara and Kaelen. Their connection isn’t just instant attraction, it’s layered with prophecy, control, and conflicting loyalties. Kaelen being bound to the Ashen Queen adds a compelling internal struggle, and his mission to betray Elunara creates a constant undercurrent of tension that drives the story forward. You always feel like something is about to snap, emotionally or catastrophically.
Elunara herself stands out as more than a typical “chosen one.” Her dreamwalking visions blur the line between fate and fear in a way that adds atmosphere to the story. There’s a sense that she’s not just fighting external enemies, but also trying to understand whether her destiny is something she can escape or something she’s already trapped inside. That uncertainty gives her character weight.
The romance leans into the enemies to lovers trope with a strong, steamy edge, but it’s the emotional stakes behind it that make it engaging. This isn’t just about desire, it’s about trust under impossible circumstances. Every moment they grow closer raises the risk of betrayal, which keeps the relationship feeling volatile in a good way.
The world-building is intriguing, especially with the mix of witches, dragon shifters, and prophecy driven conflict, though at times it feels like there’s more depth hinted at than fully explored. The Ashen Queen, in particular, comes across as a powerful presence, but could benefit from more page time or development to fully match the threat she represents.
Where the book may divide readers is pacing some sections move quickly through major developments, while others linger in the emotional and romantic tension. Depending on what you’re looking for (plot heavy vs. character/romance driven), this will either work in your favor or feel slightly unbalanced.
Ashen Moon delivers exactly what its premise promises: high stakes fantasy romance wrapped in prophecy, danger, and smoldering chemistry. If you enjoy stories where fate feels like a curse, enemies become reluctant allies, and desire threatens to destroy kingdoms, this book lands squarely in that lane.
At the center of the story is Elunara, a witch burdened with dreamwalking visions that make it difficult to separate truth from nightmare. She’s a compelling heroine because she isn’t merely “chosen”, she’s hunted, feared, and forced to navigate power that others want to control. Her internal conflict gives the story emotional weight beyond the romance.
Kaelen, the dragon shifter sent to betray her, is equally effective as the tortured male lead. Bound to the Ashen Queen and stripped of true freedom, he brings the classic brooding intensity readers expect from romantasy heroes. His tension with Elunara is immediate and electric, and their dynamic is one of the book’s strongest elements.
The romance leans heavily into forbidden attraction, fated connection, and enemies to lovers energy. Readers who love longing glances, dangerous alliances, and characters fighting desire while the world burns will likely be satisfied. The chemistry appears to be a major selling point, and from the synopsis alone, it’s clearly central to the reading experience.
The worldbuilding seems rooted in familiar dark fantasy conventions, strongholds, curses, queens, prophecy, magical bloodlines, but that isn’t necessarily a weakness. For many readers, the appeal is less about radical originality and more about atmosphere, emotional stakes, and addictive pacing.
Ashen Moon looks like a satisfying pick for fans of modern fantasy romance, especially readers who love witches, dragon shifters, dangerous destiny, and passion under pressure. It seems designed for readers who want emotional intensity and spice alongside magical conflict.
Some romances feel like a slow burn. Thorns of Ash feels like walking straight into a wildfire, dangerous, mesmerizing, and impossible to escape. Zoey Frost leans fully into the darkness here, crafting a story where every emotion is heightened and every connection comes with a cost.
Azara Thorn is not written to be liked, she’s written to be respected. She is sharp, defiant, and often ruthless when pushed, which makes her feel real in a world that demands strength just to survive. Her curse and power don’t define her nearly as much as her refusal to be controlled. Watching her navigate betrayal, danger, and her own growing feelings adds a layered complexity to her character.
Darian Ashclaw embodies the idea that sometimes the hero and the villain are separated only by circumstance. His mission is clear, his stakes are personal, and his methods are far from gentle. Yet beneath that brutality lies conflict, one that slowly unravels him as Azara challenges everything he thought he understood about loyalty and control.
The connection between Azara and Darian is not safe, and that’s exactly why it works. Their interactions are filled with tension that borders on explosive, where every moment could tip into violence or something far more intimate. The progression from enemies to something deeper is messy, raw, and compellingly unpredictable.
The Vale is not just a setting, it’s a force. Dark magic pulses through every corner, and the looming influence of the Demon Court ensures that no action goes unnoticed. The story constantly reminds you that power comes at a price, and no character is exempt from paying it.
What lingers after the final page is the way this book treats love, not as salvation, but as a gamble. Azara and Darian’s bond is powerful, but it’s also dangerous, forcing them to confront who they are and what they’re willing to lose.
Ashen Moon: Forged In Prophecy, Crowned In Ash is a gripping blend of dark fantasy, prophecy, and slow burning romance that pulls you in from the very first pages. Zoey Frost crafts a world filled with tension, danger, and emotional depth, where fate and desire constantly collide.
Elunara stands out as a powerful and complex heroine haunted by visions yet fiercely defiant of the destiny forced upon her. Her struggle feels real, and her strength makes her easy to root for. Kaelen, on the other hand, brings that irresistible brooding energy a dragon shifter bound by loyalty but torn by awakening emotions he cannot ignore. Together, their chemistry is intense, layered, and undeniably captivating.
The enemies to lovers dynamic is one of the strongest elements of the story. It builds gradually, filled with tension, conflict, and emotional stakes that make every interaction feel meaningful. The connection between them isn’t just passionate it challenges everything they believe about duty, power, and freedom.
The world building is rich without being overwhelming, weaving magic, prophecy, and political intrigue into a story that keeps the momentum going. The presence of the Ashen Queen adds a strong sense of looming danger, raising the stakes throughout the book.
If there’s one thing to note, it’s that the pacing occasionally leans into slower moments, but for readers who enjoy immersive storytelling and character driven tension, it works well.
Overall, this is a fiery, emotional, and addictive read perfect for fans of dark fantasy romance, dragon shifters, and forbidden love. It leaves you invested in both the characters and the world, and definitely wanting more.
Ashen Moon: Forged In Prophecy, Crowned In Ash delivers a dark, emotionally charged fantasy romance where fate, power, and desire collide in dangerous ways.
Elunara is a compelling protagonist, shaped as much by her curse as by her strength. Her dreamwalking visions blur the line between prophecy and nightmare, creating a constant sense of unease that runs throughout the story. She isn’t just fighting external enemies, she’s battling the fear that her future may already be written.
Kaelen’s character adds another layer of tension. As a dragon shifter bound to the Ashen Queen, his struggle centers on control and freedom. His mission to betray Elunara puts him in direct conflict with his growing feelings for her, and that internal divide makes his journey especially engaging.
The romance is intense and immediate. This is a true enemies to lovers story where trust is fragile and every connection carries risk. The presence of the Ashen Queen strengthens the story’s darker tone, adding a sense of looming threat and control that shapes the characters’ choices. Combined with hints of hidden unrest and shifting power, the world feels tense and unpredictable.
While the pacing leans toward fast and emotionally driven, it fits the tone of the story. The book prioritizes intensity over slow development, which will appeal to readers who enjoy passionate, high, stakes fantasy romance.

Frost balances romance with action well, ensuring the plot never gets overshadowed by the relationship. Fans of dark fantasy romance will especially enjoy the mix of forbidden love, prophecy, and dragon, shifter lore.
If there is any weakness, it may be that some fantasy elements could have been explored more deeply, as the story moves quickly through its world, building. Still, the emotional tension and engaging characters more than make up for it.
If you’re looking for a fantasy romance that leans into darkness, desire, and destiny, Ashen Moon is a captivating pick. Zoey Frost crafts a story where prophecy feels like a living force, constantly shaping, and threatening, the lives of her characters.
Elunara is the heart of the novel. Her visions are not just a gift but a burden, creating a constant sense of unease that lingers throughout the story. Watching her wrestle with fate while trying to hold onto her identity makes her both relatable and powerful. She’s not a passive heroine, she pushes back, even when the odds are stacked against her.
Kaelen brings intensity and emotional weight. As a dragon shifter bound by duty, his struggle between obedience and desire is deeply engaging. His connection with Elunara is charged from the start, and the tension between them builds in a way that feels both natural and addictive.
The novel shines in its atmosphere, moody, dangerous, and laced with intrigue. While some plot elements follow familiar genre tropes, they’re executed with enough passion and flair to keep readers invested. The romance is steamy without overshadowing the larger stakes, striking a satisfying balance.
Overall, Ashen Moon is a strong addition to the fantasy romance genre, perfect for readers who enjoy forbidden love, powerful heroines, and a story where fate is meant to be challenged, not obeyed.

Dragon shifter romances are practically their own genre at this point, and I'll be honest, I approach them with measured expectations. But this book shattered every one of those expectations within the first few chapters. What sets Kaelen apart from every other brooding, dangerous dragon shifter I've read is the complexity of his situation. His fire is literally not his own. His freedom is a lie he's been living for so long he almost believes it. Watching him slowly come to terms with what's been done to him, while simultaneously falling for the woman he was sent to betray, is genuinely heartbreaking. And Elunara matches him at every turn. She's no passive prize to be won. She's a force of nature, and together they are electric. This is the gold standard for the genre.
The dreamwalking. I need to talk about the dreamwalking. So many fantasy books introduce a magical ability and use it purely as a plot device, a convenient way to deliver information or move the story along. But here, Elunara's dreamwalking is the emotional spine of the entire novel. The way the visions blur into nightmares, the way she can never be sure what's real prophecy and what's her own fear twisting the images, it mirrors her internal experience so perfectly. She can't trust her own mind. She can't trust what she sees. And then Kaelen appears in her dreams before she ever meets him in waking life, and suddenly this man she should fear is the only thing that feels real. I was absolutely undone. Stunning, layered, brilliant storytelling that I did not see coming.
Can we please talk about the Ashen Queen for a moment? Because she is one of the finest villains I have encountered in fantasy romance in years. She is not cartoonishly evil. She doesn't monologue. She is cold and precise and utterly convinced of her own righteousness, and that makes her genuinely terrifying. The hold she has over Kaelen isn't just physical, it's psychological, and watching him slowly recognize the extent of her manipulation is one of the most compelling arcs in the book. It makes every choice he makes in defiance of her feel monumental. The author clearly put as much thought and care into the antagonist as into the leads, and the story is so much richer for it. I finished this book thinking about her almost as much as the main couple.
I have forced this book into the hands of every person in my book club and I will continue to do so until everyone I know has read it. Two of them messaged me past midnight about chapter seventeen and honestly that is the correct response. What makes the enemies-to-lovers dynamic work so brilliantly here is that the animosity feels justified on both sides. Neither of them is wrong to be wary of the other. The betrayal at the heart of their meeting is real. The danger is real. So when trust starts to build anyway, against all odds and better judgment, it feels genuinely earned rather than inevitable. This isn't enemies-to-lovers as a cute trope. It's enemies-to-lovers as a survival story, and I loved every second of it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 I received a free copy of this book and want to thank the author for sending it to me. This beautifully written story is filled with magic, prophecies, and an enemies-to-lovers romance. Elundra, our main character, is a powerful seer and dreamwalker who meets Kaelen through her dreams. The battle between good and evil runs deep, and Elundra’s determination to break the curse of an ancient prophecy kept me hooked. Their love story is heartfelt and had me cheering for them until the end. The book is packed with suspense, unexpected twists, and powerful emotions, all centered around love.
This book totally missed the mark for me. I felt the writing was disjointed almost like it was in bullet form. I felt no connection to the main characters and I didn’t feel their connection either. Other than it obviously being a story about prophecy and choosing one’s own fate, I didn’t understand much about the characters or what their true purpose was. I also found a lot of repetitive sentences with the same threats from the Queen that made me just start skimming to get to the end. This is the first book I’ve read from this author so I don’t know if this is her typical writing style. I may find another to read just to compare.
The slow burn in this book should be illegal. I am serious. I was white-knuckling my e-reader through half of it, muttering things at my screen like a person who has completely lost the plot. But that's the thing, the restraint is the point. Every almost-moment, every charged look, every conversation where they're saying something completely ordinary and you can feel everything unspoken underneath it, it all builds and builds until the release is genuinely cathartic. I may or may not have screamed into a pillow when they finally gave in to each other. My neighbors probably have questions. It was worth it entirely and I would do it all over again without hesitation.
I didn't expect this book to make me cry and yet here we are. There's a scene, I won't spoil it, where Elunara is alone with the weight of a vision she can't escape, and the writing in that moment is so raw and honest about what it feels like to be trapped inside your own mind, to be hunted by something you never chose. I had to put the book down and just sit with it for a moment. The author doesn't use Elunara's curse as a cool supernatural accessory. They treat it as a genuine burden with real emotional consequences, and that depth elevates the entire story from great fantasy romance to something that genuinely stays with you long after the last page
One of my biggest fears with fantasy romance is that the world-building will be either too thin to believe or so dense it swallows the emotional story whole. This book walks that line with remarkable confidence. The stronghold feels genuinely alive, full of politics and whispered alliances and shadows that move wrong. The prophecy is layered in gradually, giving you just enough to stay curious without ever becoming confusing. And the dark rising underneath the surface of supposed peace creates this constant, simmering dread that makes the romance feel all the more urgent. These two don't have the luxury of time, and you feel it pressing down on every single page.
Elunara reminded me of exactly why I fell in love with fantasy heroines as a genre in the first place. She is not waiting to be saved. She is not softened for the reader's comfort. She is hunted and cursed and furious about it, and she channels that fury into something purposeful rather than collapsing under it. When she and Kaelen first clash, she gives absolutely nothing away. She is guarded and sharp and suspicious, and rightly so. Watching those walls come down without ever feeling like she's been diminished or made smaller is a genuine achievement in character writing. By the end I felt like I had watched someone choose to be brave in real time, and it moved me more than I expected.
The dreamwalking sequences are some of the most hauntingly beautiful writing I have encountered in fantasy romance. There's a quality to them, liminal, disorienting, full of images that feel significant even before you understand why, that genuinely mimics the experience of a vivid and unsettling dream. And the fact that Kaelen appears in those visions before Elunara ever meets him in waking life gives their eventual meeting this eerie, fated quality that never tips over into cheesy. You understand why she both trusts and fears him instinctively. You understand why her heart recognizes him before her mind catches up. It is achingly well done and unlike anything I have read before.
Bound by an ancient prophecy, Elunara and Kaelen are fated to stand at the crossroads of their world’s future. Together, they must choose: embrace the destiny that crowns Elunara as the feared Evil Queen, or defy the path laid out for them and forge a future of their own making.
Their bond could save their realm — or doom it. Which fate will they claim? Read on to discover the truth.
Loved reading the engaging and mesmerizing paranormal story. When Elunara meets Kaelen, she knows him from her dreams. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of mystery and suspense, and a must read riveting story.
Ashen Moon: Forged in Prophecy, Crowned in Ash is a steamy fantasy with passion and danger. The forbidden bond, rising threats, and tension between surrender and survival made it riveting in places. But parts felt rushed and some emotional beats didn’t land fully for me.
