Three weddings. One fake girlfriend. Zero chance this ends well.
I’ve got a problem. Actually—three problems. I RSVP’d to three weddings this summer, and my girlfriend just broke up with me. Too bad I already told my family, my teammates, and basically all of Seattle that I’m bringing a date.
Enter Liv. She’s my sister’s best friend, my childhood partner-in-crime, and the only person willing to put up with my ridiculous plan—for the right price. Fake smiles, fake kisses, fake “oh my god we’re so in love”… Easy.
Except nothing about Liv feels fake. Not the way she fits under my arm like she was always meant to be there. Not the way she looks at me like she’s one second from breaking every “just friends” rule we ever made.
Three weddings. One summer. And the biggest lie of my life might just turn into the real thing.
Fake as Puck is a laugh-out-loud, slow-burn, steamy hockey romance featuring fake dating, friends-to-lovers tension, and one charmingly chaotic hockey player who never stood a chance. Perfect for fans of Helena Hunting, Hannah Grace, and Rebecca Jenshak.
This book has potential to be great but there are a few things that bring down the rating. 1. Editing. There were a few spelling/grammar errors throughout the book. 2. Formatting. Sometimes the conversations between characters were hard to read and I had to go back and see who was saying what because the dialogue wasn’t clear. 3. Continuity errors. Multiple times in the book the characters go to bed after taking a shower in the evening and then they wake up and are in the shower again. There is a scene where the FMC and her best friend have a spa day and it says something about leaving with great looking nails after a manicure and then the next page they are in the salon getting manicures. They reference the FMC’s mother being in remission from cancer but suffering from depression and then later in the book FMC can’t live for herself because her mother has cancer. 4. The scene where the FMC confesses her love for the MMC could be done way better. Why is she changing into a white dress at sometime else’s wedding and making a speech with a microphone and then spending the evening dancing at the wedding. Um, no. Wear the green dress you had on and don’t steal attention from the wedding you’re attending as a guest. I got second hand embarrassment at the start of that chapter.
The positives: I liked the main and supporting characters. I thought the scene where she meets his team was fun and showed everyone’s personalities. I like the slow burn and how the slowly fell for each other but were unsure how the other felt. Sometimes it was a little frustrating but overall it was done well. And no 3rd act breakup so that’s positive! With some simple edits this book could be so good! I’d love to be an ARC reader and help with the next release.

This is my first book by this author and it was so much fun! Some of the lines in it are priceless! I read a lot and very few books literally make me laugh out loud. This one did.
I can attest to the fact it can be read as a standalone because I started on this one (book 2 in the series) and it all made sense. Full disclosure: I’m now reading book 1.
The hero, West, is endearing and a little insecure. He doesn’t, however, come across as weak, just doubts himself and Liv’s feelings toward him. Heroine, Liv, also has her moments of doubt, but she’ tougher than she realizes. She’s been dealing with some stuff that tests her strength, but she manages to push through. And West’s sister, who is also Liv’s best friend, is a good addition and acts as a sounding board and foil for them both. Her presence compliments their dynamic, in my opinion.
The story is cute, but can get a touch repetitive at times. It didn’t, however, make me like the characters any less or give up on the story. And, like I already said, I’m reading book 1 now--I wouldn’t be doing so if I didn’t like this one. So, that should tell you something.
i want to start off with it’s not really that spicy. honestly i would rate it a 1 🌶️ & that really disappointed me since this book was made out to be “spicy/high steam” & wasn’t. the (two maybe?) spicy scenes were short & not even that detailed.
the second thing that really threw me off was how fast paced it was. i love fast paced books but three chapters in & they’re already thinking the “fake relationship” isn’t fake. everything happened so fast & sometimes it was confusing.
third thing, the way they talked to each other was weird. you cannot convince me that they knew each other for years when they spoke one-three words to each other 70% of the book. & it was “good.” “good.” the repeating each other just got on my nerves.
the fourth & last thing — WHY? like how did she go from “i don’t want this” to letting his mom talk her into telling him she loves him!? wtf was that?? she was cold 99% of the time & then she’s all “i love you” & then nothing changed. ugh. this book was so disappointing.
I liked the first half of the book, but the second half was very frustrating. It was like the author ran out of story and just let the characters ramble on about their insecurities, anxiety and fears. Even when they talked and it seemed like they were on the same page, it was as if they forgot those conversations and went back to being scared and unsure. I skimmed the second hall of the book, but I missed absolutely nothing. They were both still not sure about being together and second guessing EVERYTHING. The relationship did not significantly move forward until the last chapter or two. She confessed her at the 3rd wedding and moved in with him weeks later. That's it. About 50% of the book was just them overthinking.
I will give this author another try because I really did enjoy the first half.
His was one of the better best friend’s brother stories. A little wonky on the timeline, which was annoying. But mostly good.
But at some point, the phrasing was nearly identical again and again and again. Not a fan. I wanted to love this book but this alone made me feel differently.
Plenty of angst if you like that, but it was self-inflicted. “Does he love me even though he’s told me multiple times he loves me?” is the kind of thing grown adults should communicate about.
I liked the first book better. Not sure if I’ll read the 3rd one b/c of this book.
West RSVP'd to three weddings with a plus one. Then the girl he thought was a gf tells him she's not. Panicking, he calls his sister who convinces him and her bestie to "fake it".
The arrangement goes well, but it's never been fake for either of them. Both have been in love with each other since they were teens. However, life isn't always easy.
These two dance around their feelings, becoming their own worst enemies. Can they get it together and be a couple? Or do they let fear control them and miss out on true love.
Cute story about Liv and Wes. So many good things about the book. Good story, good character development and a realistic plot (well as realistic as any hockey romance). Definitely a few grammatical errors. Couldn’t figure out the fingernail scene, when it said how good they looked and then 2 paragraphs later she was getting them done again. Overall a good, fun and relaxing read. Perfectly for reading while relaxing over the weekend.
I DNF’d and I NEVER DNF. I just couldn’t go on with this one. The spelling and grammar errors were so frustrating. The lack of continuity was mind blowing. I literally started skimming pages and missed out on nothing. I got 1/2 way through and decided I was waisting valuable reading time and I could read something else that is actually good! Also I’m all for a MMC being a little sensitive, but this dude was down right insecure and it was so cringy to me.
The characters. The plot. The banter. The chemistry. The longing. The uncertainty. The fear. The things unsaid but felt. This story had so much emotion. I felt every moment with Liv and West. I rooted for them to find a way to be together. And the ending was great. Satisfying and inevitable.
This book was so hard to read. I could not stay engaged at all. I’ve read several other books from this author and they were good reads, but this was a struggle. The characters seemed like they just did not connect with the story, with each other, or with me. I didn’t feel the feelings.
I found myself giggling and smiling through much of this book. MMC West was sweet and nerdy and completely unwell in a way that was charming and disarming. FMC Liv was unsure but strong and managed to live in the moments.
This book was such a good, easy read. Interesting story and while there were a few editing errors I throughly enjoyed the romance, and I had a great time.
