Rae Whitmore doesn’t do second nights. One scorching encounter with a stranger is more than enough—and she’s perfectly fine leaving it that way. Until that same stranger walks into her inn, grumpy glare and all, announcing he’s booked a five-month stay.
Grant Ashford is a bestselling author in desperate need of solitude, and the last thing he expected was to run into the fiery woman he can’t stop fantasizing about. The bigger problem? Rae’s entire world revolves around Christmas cheer… and Grant despises the holidays with every fiber of his being.
Now Rae is stuck hosting the grumpiest guest alive, and Grant can’t escape the woman who makes him want to break every one of his rules. Between mistletoe, tangled sheets, and far too many heated nights, one thing becomes clear—one night was never going to be enough.
🎄 A Grumpy Little Christmas is a steamy small-town holiday romance, packed with banter, spice, and all the cozy-chaotic vibes of Christmas in Elm Hollow.
Valentina Iania writes steamy contemporary romance and rom-coms rooted in small-town worlds, where heart, heat, and emotional intensity collide. Her stories feature found family, seasonal vibes, and sizzling chemistry, blending cozy settings with unapologetically spicy romance. She also writes scorching cowboy romances, known for strong heroines, stubborn heroes, and high-heat, emotionally charged love stories. When she’s not writing, she’s out at the ranch—riding horses and dreaming up her next obsession-worthy cowboy. You can find her on social media @valentinaianiaauthor. Saddle up, it’s gonna get hot.
First of all: this book was a joy to read. It’s engaging, polished, and emotionally satisfying, with characters who feel real and a romance arc that has genuine payoff. I never struggled to stay immersed — every time I had to stop reading, I wanted to go back immediately.
⸻
💗 Characters & Dynamics
Rae and Grant have fantastic chemistry — not only physically, but in personality contrast and emotional rhythm. Their dialogue is sharp and alive, and the banter feels natural rather than “written to be witty.”
Rae comes across strong, consistent, and deeply human. Her boundaries make sense, and her vulnerability is handled respectfully. I loved that her identity didn’t revolve solely around motherhood, but her son still mattered to her arc.
Grant’s character development is excellent. The shift from closed-off to emotionally available is gradual, believable, and rewarding. No sudden personality switch — you can feel the progress happen over time.
The side characters — especially the firefighters, the girls from “Chat & Chardonnay,” and the town gossip network — add dimension without hijacking the story. They enrich the world in all the right ways.
⸻
🔥 Romance, Spice & Emotional Build
The tension is chef’s kiss. Nothing ever feels rushed or slow — the push-and-pull balance is spot on.
The spicy scenes are not only hot (very hot), but also character-driven. They deepen the relationship rather than interrupting it. The payoff after the emotional buildup is extremely satisfying.
Romantic beats and emotional beats match perfectly. Nothing feels redundant or thrown in “just to have spice.” The intimacy carries meaning and impact.
⸻
🎄 Setting & Seasonal Vibes
Elm Hollow is one of the book’s greatest assets. The town practically becomes a character of its own — cozy, festive, intrusive in the funniest ways, and full of life.
Atmosphere is vivid without overwriting: • sensory details are on point • holiday vibes are strong but never cheesy • descriptions are immersive but not heavy
Readers who love holiday romances will fall hard for this setting.
⸻
⚙️ Plot & Pacing
The pacing is consistent from start to finish. Chapters are perfectly sized — quick to read, but emotionally dense when needed.
The arrival of the additional guest is a smart turning point. It raises the stakes without manufacturing drama, and it forces both main characters to confront things they’ve been avoiding.
The ending lands beautifully — satisfying without feeling predictable or rushed.
⸻
✨ Strongest Elements (huge highlights)
• Character development — believable and rewarding • Banter — funny without trying too hard • Smut — 🔥🔥🔥 but with purpose • Realistic emotional conflict — no exaggerated drama • The firefighter / Magic Mike scene is legendary and totally unforgettable • The town gossip newspaper is genius comedic pacing and world-building • The friend group scenes add serotonin to the plot
⸻
🔎 Small Notes (not critical — only if you want to refine further)
• Some readers who prefer low/closed-door romance may feel overwhelmed by the heat level — but for the target audience it’s perfect
Nothing else flagged as an issue — grammar, consistency, and internal logic are extremely solid. No timeline gaps, no character contradictions, no plot threads disappearing.
⸻
💬 Final Beta Reader Impression
A Grumpy Little Christmas is the perfect mix of heart, humor, heat, and holiday comfort. It delivers on its promises and then some. It’s fun to read, emotionally rich, spicy in a way that matters, and full of memorable scenes that will stay with readers.
This sequel not only matches the energy of Pumpkin Spice… Lessons — it strengthens the world of Elm Hollow and sets up the next book beautifully without ever stealing focus.
It’s absolutely ready for release. 🎄🔥 Romance readers — especially holiday romance lovers — are going to devour it.

“🎄 A Grumpy Little Christmas is a steamy small-town holiday romance, packed with banter, spice, and all the cozy-chaotic vibes of Christmas in Elm Hollow.”
I absolutely loved this book so much. Think Hallmark plus smut mixed in. Grant and Rae's will they won't they/ push/pull passion and chemistry is something that had me hooked from page one. I highly recommend you read it. Thank you Valentina Iania for letting me read this ARC copy. I will be reading more of your books in the future for sure.
This one’s really spicy! 🔥 Beta reader here — my full review will come after release, but I can tell you this much: way steamier than the first one, still very much a romcom, and the perfect Christmas read! 🎄✨
4.5🌟- The most PERFECT small town, spicy Christmas read that you do not want to miss out on!🎄❄️
A Grumpy Little Christmas is book 2 in the Elm Hollow Series and follows characters Rae and Grant.
Rae is the proud owner of the inn in Elm Hollow and, with being a single mum, has set herself a rule that only one night should ever be spent with a man; it should never go beyond this. Grant, best selling thriller author, checks himself into the Inn in search of some inspiration when both Grant and Rae realise they have spent a steamy night together recently.
This book’s follows the grumpy x sunshine trope perfectly with Grant being our grumpy grinch and Rae being the embodiment of Christmas spirit. With an unexpected arrival at the inn before Christmas, will Rae and Grant stick to their one night rule or will everything be spun on its head with the new guest arrival?
Expect to feel the Christmas spirit to the extreme when you’re reading this book and expect to kick your feet giggling with the flirtatious banter throughout however, be ready for some saucy spice scenes throughout!
If you’re looking for a small town romance book that is filled with banter, flirting and lots of spice then look no further than A Grumpy Little Christmas;the perfect holiday book!
I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for this book and I honestly cannot recommend it enough! One of my favourite holiday reads! Thank you to Valentina for trusting me to be an ARC reader and I’m already excited for book 3 soon👀✨
This is a perfect holiday read! I loved coming back to Elm Hollow for another holiday season! It’s really fun to get to know all the different characters and soon to be couples on this small town. I can’t wait for book 3!
🎄 Rae and Grant are the main characters- and met weeks before he shows up in Elm Hollow ❄️ Ivy’s mom- Rae runs the hotel (Ivy’s story was book 1) 🎄 He’s a famous author ❄️ I love their “Operation Christmas War”
Sloan “the matchmaker”- her book Queen of Hearts is coming out for Valentine’s Day 2026! 🩷❤️
What happens when your one night stand ends up booking a few months stay at your hotel during holiday season? Elm Hollow is what Halmark movies are made of! Christmas starts November 1st and every day is magical. Not the best place for a Grumpy, thriller writer trying to get over writers block. Christmas wars, advent calendars, meddling friends, and a whole lot of spice all while the grump falls in love with Mrs. Christmas Spirit.
I may not look at Christmas cookies or strands of holiday lights the same after this book. 🥵 Then we top it off with an advent calendar of spicy chaos!
I loved the Grumpy Grinch vs Cindy-Lou nicknames, they were perfect! There was definite Gilmore Girl Vibes without being a direct copy. And so much banter. I laughed so much during this read, and I enjoyed every minute of it!
I could've done without the 3rd act breakup that only lasted a few pages. It was so brief and not needed, but yet I understand why it was there also.
If your a fan of Halmark after dark, grumpy/sunshine, Christmas wars, humor, and romance, then this book needs to be on your holiday TBR! It's available now!
Thank you @valentinaianiaauthor for the #gifted ARC copy. I'm running to sign up for the next book in the series!!!
Umm Valentina is becoming one of my favorites to read!! I was so excited to see we get Rae’s story I screamed!! And this one did not disappoint at all!!
Rae and Grant met as a one night stand and she bolted so imagine her shock when Grant shows up to her Inn and is planning to stay a long while!! So the most logical thing to do was ignore him lol! I loved that Rae was unapologetically herself! I loved her so much! And seeing Grant slowly open up was chefs kiss!!
This was such a fun time!!!! Rae and Grant are so spicy and such a good time. I love a Grumpy/sunshine Christmas book and this was the perfect way to kick off the Christmas book season!!
This is the second book in the Elm Hollow Holiday series and whoo did the author up the spice in this one. If you're looking for a sexy, spicy Christmas book then definitely give this one a look. Rae Whitmore is a single mom who's sworn off relationships and Grant is a hot, brooding author. Pining, pining and more pining awaits you along with some Christmas fun, and we also get to see some more of our beloved couple from the first book in this series. Valentina delivers on the perfect mixture of sweet and sexy and I definitely recommend this for anyone who's looking for a seasonal read ❤️ *arc review*
4.5 ⭐️ I have rounded up as I really enjoyed it! Book 2 in the Elm Hollow Holidays series and perfectly named A Grumpy Little Christmas 🎄 Proud ARC reader here - thank you so much to the author for trusting me with your book for an early review 😍 I have read all of Val's books to date and this one is easily my favourite so far and also her best work in my opinion in terms of writing, spice scenes and also character development 🫶 i did find this one slightly long or at least it felt longer than the rest but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
🎄 Grumpy Grinch x Sunshine Cindy Lou 🎄 One-night stand 🎄 Small town romance 🎄 Author x single mother 🎄 Steamy spice (just the right amount)
Rae Whitmore runs The Snowed inn in a small, festive loving town and believes in one-night stands staying one-night only! After a raunchy encounter with a stranger, she’s content to leave it behind. That stranger turns out to be Grant Ashford, a bestselling author who absolutely loathes Christmas. He shows up at Rae’s inn, book-in-hand, scowl firmly in place—and he’s booked himself in for five months to help find inspiration for his new book. Rae loves everything about the holidays. Grant despises them. But as days turn into nights, and snowflakes and mistletoe enter the picture, their one-night rule starts wavering. Between banter, spice and a small-town holiday backdrop, they both begin to question their assumptions until an unexpected visitor arrives... Featuring a certain match maker... 👀 can the pair move past the unwanted guest and get christmas back on track?
I am so excited for Sloane's book which is number 3 in the series! I feel we heard lots about her in this book so I can't wait to read her story!

Set in the small, cozy town of Elm Hollow, A Grumpy Little Christmas is a festive, grumpy x sunshine romance overflowing with spice, banter & Christmas magic. It’s lighthearted, witty & delivers alllll the cheery, warm, comforting Hallmark vibes you could ask for.
I loved Rae & Grant! The contrast in personalities, banter & jokes were so much fun & watching Grant’s Grinchy demeanour melt away was so satisfying. Who doesn’t love a good growth/realisation moment!
Treat yourself to an early Christmas gift, you will not be disappointed 🎁✨

Valentina, take a bow 👏🏼🥹 This book was a fantastic early Christmas gift! It was the perfect blend of smut & coziness, heat & heart & I loved the inclusion of the familiar faces. It gave me everything I was hoping for from a heartwarming, comforting Christmas romance & I genuinely couldn’t fault it.
Valentina is one of the sweetest humans & her talent for writing is a gift to so many. It’s immersive & engaging & time completely ran away from me (there’s no better feeling!!) The chapter length was great, nothing felt as if it was lulling or dragging & I genuinely had a smile on my face from start to end.
If you enjoy cozy, chaotic small town stories, Christmas cheer or romance that packs serious heat, this book is for you! 🎁🎄✨

📣 A huge thank you to the wonderful Valentina Iania for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC. This is my honest opinion & I’m sharing it voluntarily.
Valentina Iania fires straight out of the gate with Rae and Grant in a compulsive dynamic, sharp edges, electric hurricane, and a pull neither of them wants to admit! Rae holds her ground with a powerful force, realistic, confident and unwilling to bend just because a man with a scowl walks back into her world, her rule about one-night hookups reads as a barrier based on experience! Grant bursts into the story with a compelling mix of annoyance and brewing fire, a man who anticipates isolation but finds himself embroiled in a war of wits. Their chemistry is characterized by a continuous, addicting vibrancy that keeps each conversation fired up!!! . Rae's temperament is consistently strong, tender where it counts, her approach to parenthood, work, desire, and discomfort results in a rich interiority that is anchored and fascinating, she refuses to shrink, even as the storm of Grant's protracted presence threatens to throw her off balance! Grant's path is detailed, taking him from cautious to open, with a clear and natural change of heart, you can feel the changes in how he begins to occupy his life with a new attention. His irritations develop into confessions, and his silence becomes a new form of communication. When he allows himself to soften, it comes with the weight of something accomplished, amd it was such a masterpiece! . Elm Hollow surrounds them with stunning mischief, nosy locals, never-ending celebrations, and the kind of small-town pressure that fuels all emotions, the firefighters, the Chat & Chardonnay women, and the gossip arrangement all deliver a brisk, engaging pattern without taking away from Rae and Grant's timeless attraction! The town's Christmas festivities develops an aspect of suspense for Grant, who views each wreath as an opponent, and for Rae, who appreciates every chance to push his buttons. Each escalation brings them closer together, makes the attraction more addicting, and sets the stage for a series of confrontations that are compelling and humorous. They've hit an edge that's almost addictive!!!
The one where The Grinch falls for his Cindy Lou💚❤️
Thank you Valentina for this ARC of A Grumpy Little Christmas, I have absolutely loved visiting Elm Hollow and cannot wait to keep going back for more!
A one night stand with two people who are both visiting a small town and have one night, he asks for her number but because of her rule, she runs off before anything can get any deeper.
Fast forward a month, and said one night stand, Grant, shows up and her inn! Rae plays it cool, and tries to act like she doesn’t remember him. Which turns into a war to try to get the “Grump” Grant out of his Grinchy funk.
I LOVED how jealous and grumpy Grant was! How he just wants Rae but doesnt know how to exactly go after her, until he sees slivers of her that no-one else sees and they begin a back and forth banter that turns into more.
The burn was fast but the way that these two fall for each other over the holiday season is the sweetest thing. Almost as sweet as all the sugar cookies, but don’t even get me started on the frosting 🥵😏😉
I loved the dynamic with Rae and Grant but also grant with Ivy (Rae’s Daughter from the previous book) and Cam Ivy’s boyfriend (from the previous book). The vibe of all the characters is perfect, I loved seeing them all bond and flirt and all the banter too, and when grant starts to spend time with all the people of Elm Hollow, his heart starts growing multiple sizes. (Just like his namesake, the grinch)
I am so excited for what comes next from Valentina and can’t wait to go back to Elm Hollow!

Arc book review 📚 Grumpy Little Christmas @valentinaianiaauthor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5 Available Now
This book was absolutely brilliant. Now that Christmas is near I do enjoy a little holiday romance and this book was absolutely what I was looking for. This is a grumpy x Sunshine book which is an absolute favorite of mine and it was gone so well. Grant is a writer struggling with writers block and in need to work on his next book he escapes to Elm Hollow, a quiet town that will surely be the answer to his problems. What he didn’t expect is to arrive to the Inn of Rae the woman that not only owns the hotel, but the same one he had a one night stand with recently. Now Rae and Grant need to navigate through new feelings while being in close proximity to one another.
After finishing Pumpkin Spice lessons I knew immediately that I needed to go back to Elm Hollow. The story was just so good and I didn’t feel like the story could end and gladly o was wrong. I am so grateful that the author decided to continue the love story there and I really enjoy that it was with Rae and Grant. The banter between the characters was just so fun and I was so happy to have the opportunity to re visit my favorite characters from before. I can’t wait for Valentina next book queen of hearts that will bring us sloane story!
This is the 3rd book i’ve read by Valentina and honestly her writing never disappoints
This book gives all the hallmark movie, small town Christmas feels and I am 100% here for it
This story centres around Grant and Rae. Grant is an author, Rae is a single mom who runs an inn in Elm Hollow. The two meet and there’s this instant attraction that leads to a one night stand, when Grant asks for her number, she flees. Rae expects to never see him again but fate has other plans. A month goes by and Grant finds himself staying in The Snowed Inn which just so happens to be the inn that Rae runs.
With the two being thrown together again there’s no way for either of them to escape the attraction.
I love the grumpy vs sunshine vibes - she’s literally the epitome of Christmas spirit and the Cindy Lou to his grinch. I love that she pulls some pranks to try and bring some Christmas spirit into his life and I love that he falls first.
The romance, the Christmas vibes, the small town, the spice, the mischief and the banter between these characters were all 10/10 for me
Thank you to the author Valentina Iania for sending me a digital ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am so proud to be a part of her street team.
A grumpy little Christmas is book 2 of The Elm Hollow Holiday series.
This was such a fun book to read. It kept me smiling and laughing along with the characters. Such a lovely Christmasy and grinchy book all wrapped in one. If you love a spicy Christmas book this is the book for you to read during the holiday season.
Rae and Grants kind of love is infectious. There’s no possible way not to fall in love with them. I can’t wait to read Valentina’s new book coming out in February focusing on Sloane.
This book will come out early November 5th
A huge thanks to Valentina Iania for giving me the privilege to read the book before the book is official.
What To Expect: - cozy holiday romance - small town - grumpy x sunshine - single mom - naughty list - spice
4.5⭐️
alright if anyone out there wants hallmark vibes with spice then this is the book for you! it also has gilmore girls vibes too which is another bonus
rae and grant's chemistry was everything. they also had some great banter and i am talking rom-com banter. i couldnt get enough of grant being the grinch and rae being a christmas fan. that is a trope i always eat up during the holidays, one i will never tire of too.
a grumpy little christmas really keeps you hooked. i did not want to put this book down and i have a feeling you won't to either once you start it.
thank you so much valentina iania for giving me the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book!
Another totally adorable, perfectly spiced installment from Elm Hollow!
Rae is basically Lorelai Gilmore. She's loveable, playful, endlessly optimistic and puts everyone ahead of herself. I absolutely adore the GG vibes I've had from these books so far. They're so cosy, and you can't help but adore the characters. There's a whole community of colourful characters alongside the MCs, and that gives it such a wholesome feel.
The grumpy X sunshine is like a big neon sign 😆 she is sunshine, but Grant is probably the reason the word grumpy is even in the dictionary 🤭 I loved seeing him unravel (reluctantly).
It's such a fun, small-town festive read with a spicy subplot ❤️
Omgosh, this book was so cute. I love it when one character is the grump, and the other is happy. So these two were perfect. I loved all the back and forth, the attraction, and having to deal with Mr. Grumpy lol. This book was just so much fun with witty banter, some tension, and giggles. Talk about a perfect holiday book. I love Christmas myself, and love hire much the FMC enjoys the holidays as well. So five months of being able to bring the grumpy MMC to a happy place was challenging but in a fun way. This book had me so involved, I didn’t want to put it down until I was finished.
Thank you Valentina Iania for allowing me to be on your ARC team. It’s truly a pleasure to read all your books.
This is the second book in the Elm Hollow Holiday series. I am still finishing up reading this amazing book so my review will be updated. So far I am loving this book. Rae is a single mom who has sworn off relationships and Grant is a broody author who is hot. I love how Val ties in characters we have come to know and love through her books. We see some of our couple from the first book in here. This is a must read Christmas book.

A Grumpy Little Christmas is perfect if you are looking for a light read to get in the Christmas spirit! I loved the town rules at the beginning of the book, it was creative and a great touch that really set the tone for the rest of the book! This small town is so fun and cute, with all the quirks that you would expect considering they go all out for every holiday. You should beware though, Christmas songs may be stuck in your head after reading this book. One thing is for certain, I will never look at frosted cookies the same! I loved Grant and all his little gestures. Reading this story made me feel very single but I had fun living through the characters. If you are looking for a fun, sweet and spicy book to get you in the holiday spirit, A Grumpy Little Christmas is the book for you!
Get excited to read A Grumpy Little Christmas, available today! 🎉
So glad to be back in Elm Hollow. My only complaint was that it was too long for a Christmas read, but other than that it was cute. Rae and Grant just worked so well together. Rae is the owner of the Snowed Inn and it's the perfect little hotel to stay in through the holidays. Grant checks in thinking it was going to be a quiet place for him to write his next novel, little does he know it's actually always so loud and everyone is so nosy. Grant and Rae try so hard to stay away from each other but they are always drawn to each other. This is honestly such a cute holiday romance if you want to feel festive.

This the perfect “Smutty Meets Hallmark” holiday read! I love Grumpy Grant so much. The chemistry between him and Rae is delicious and their banter is hilarious. It was the perfect mix of spice, plot, banter and comedy. And the scene where the lights are getting hung is so funny! I Loved it!!!!
If you’re looking for a smutty Christmas read then look no further!! This book has it all!! I really loved Rae and Grant together, both had their own issues with commitment and when they finally accept they want to be together they are adorable and it was such a joy to read. Their chemistry and passion when together was so intense and addictive in the absolute best way!

I loved book one in the series but this was even better. It was a lot spicier too. I was kicking my feel like a teenage girl, laughing out loud and had goosebumps so many times. I’m definitely in the mood for Christmas now. I wish I could spend Christmas in Elm Hollow, it sounds the perfect place to be for the holidays.
Thank you, Valentina, for letting me be part of your ARC/Street team it was a pleasure to read and an honour too! I received an advance copy of this book, and this review reflects my honest thoughts and opinions.
I loved this book! Super cutesy, I loved the tension and the back of forth. The sunshine x grumpy gets me everytime. By far one of my fave reads of this year 😍
Another absolutely wonderful visit to Elm Hollow and its time to get to know Rae and Grant! I honestly didn't think I could love Elm Hollow more than I already did! When a one night rule turns into a second night, and a third night, Rae continues to push Grant away but Grant keeps pulling her straight back in. This was a super cosy, festive read to enjoy over the holidays this year. I cant help but fall deep into the pages of a book when the undeniable chemistry is a force to be reckoned with 😍 Thank you to Valentina for yet again allowing me an e-ARC of A Grumpy Little Christmas! I ate it up!! I eagerly await the release of Book 3 in the Elm Hollow series "Queen of Hearts"
I absolutely loved this book! Grumpy/Sunshine trope is one of my favorites and add in the holiday feel it made it a double bonus for me. This book has a hallmark feel which is always good for the holiday season. I was obsessed with this book.
Rae typically doesn't do more than a one night with someone. When Grant walks in grumpy booking a 5 month stay at the inn he finds himself not being able to stop thinking about Rae. For both of them one night will never be enough.
If you are looking for a perfect holiday read definitely dive into this one! Thank you Valentina for the ARC I absolutely loved this! ❤️💚🎄
3.7 stars!!!!!! so stinking CUTE. I love me a good grumpy×sunshine trope and this so did not disappoint. she calls him Grinch and her Cindy-lou. That's all you need to know.
