Not sure if “urban drama” is an official genre, but his book definitely fits the bill. While there isn’t a lot of physical violence, there are on-page depictions of domestic mistreatment and sexual assault, so please tread lightly if those are triggers for you.

That said, the story is packed with family secrets, and each reveal is wilder than the last. It’s definitely the kind of book that keeps you flipping pages just to see what else is hiding under the surface.

It’s a lot happening but as a reader I never really read a why. Like the drama is there the connections are there but the big tie in just didn’t exist. The kidnapping plot was crazy and unecessary, the twisted sister point was very short lived with minimal details so that you felt something for Bugg. Were the FEDS watching them or was it a scheme set up by Todd? Like this author can definitely tell a story but I personally didn’t get what was being shared. Like snake story line was again unecessary with no real resolution. A lot of things were just ended but not neatly tied up.

Almost Hit the Ghetto Heartstrings

Whew, Ghetto Heartstrings was a crazy ride for real. The storyline had potential to be something wild, and while it kept my attention, it felt a little unfinished. The characters were entertaining and mature — messy but grown about it — and I loved that energy. Still, with a lineup like that, there were too many missed opportunities to really pull on the heartstrings like the title promised.

Keema and C2? Yeah, they were my favorites. I wanted more from their situation, more healing, more depth. The men gave off straight hood vibes but barely any real action behind it. What I did love though was how they showed up for their women — they loved hard, even when it got complicated.

There was betrayal, deceit, and plenty of family drama, but I didn’t feel those deep emotional tugs the title had me expecting. The read wasn’t bad, it just lacked the emotional pull and depth that could’ve made it unforgettable.

True love never dies

I can't lie I really enjoyed this read. I swear I felt so bad for Brook because she went through so much but still came out stronger than ever and I loved that for her. I will say Perfect was the BEST boyfriend, the way he loved and treated Brook was amazing. That Rasta and Brody both made me sick and they got what they deserved because they had too many secrets. I won't lie as I was reading I had that feeling that Bugg was the little sister of Wise and Brook. The fact that Rasta still had Perfect and C2 momma held captive all these years is crazy to me. Glad that C2 and Keema came to an understanding. I was surprised Boom and YaYa even got this far because I did think it'll happen. I will say YaYa dodged a bullet with Snake because the dude was crazy and poor Reema she didn't deserve that. Overall great read, I was glued from the beginning to end.

Just Wow!

This book was HEAVY. It’s a full movie ish experience. The characters are well developed. The flow is great. The dialogue between characters was done well. It is written well. The author definitely has some good storytelling/writing skills. It’s a Urban Fiction with a unique storyline. You gotta be ready for it. Please …check and respect the trigger warnings. ⚠️ It’s real and vivid! It is the realistic and vivid lens that will make you uncomfortable. A emotional 🎢. Whoa self-care is required with this story. I think you’ll love it or hate it! But it won’t be because the author didn’t do a great job. She did an excellent job flushing out this complex storyline! The storyline ain’t for everyone!

Cute story full of drama

I liked this story. My first book by the author and certainly not my last. The style of writing was interesting, but it worked. We got everyone’s POV in every chapter. Let’s get into the story. The girls pissed me off. They couldn’t even wait a month before they started scheming… I really truly disliked the fathers. All of that just to keep their secret safe?. There were several things I felt needed a trigger warning ⚠️ but all in all, great story. Anywho I love love and Perfect loved his Brook. All the men really lucked up in the love department, drama and all.

Gritty & Deeply Emotional

Wow! The title truly encapsulates the essence of this book! It's a gritty, heartfelt, and deeply emotional journey filled with authenticity and life lessons. Each couple faces harrowing challenges that test their limits, but in their darkest moments, they uncover profound revelations that transform their perspectives. These experiences guide them towards healing and lead them to seek solace and strength in their faith. The rawness of their stories resonates deeply, making this a powerful testament to resilience and growth.

This book REALLY needed TRIGGER Warnings for SA and baby death. This book has a lot of drama but was all over the place without really bringing everything to full circle. The kidnapping, beating, SA of Brook’Lynn was unnecessary and it seems like Shelly would have wanted to see her sons instead of unaliving herself. I don’t see why Brody had to be unalived because he didn’t co-sign for Rasta to kidnap nor tortúre Brook’Lynn. This book really needed an epilogue in my opinion because it ended with an open ending.

ain’t no fun when the rabbit got the gun !

Brody and Rasta are the most pathetic men I’ve ever heard of .. to destroy your children lives just to keep a secret affair a secret but yet everyone knew but their children. Just by the ending I know we gonna have some spin offs . I need to read Ya-Ya and Booms stories just as much as all
Of the other characters. Especially Auntie Ruth she knows some hidden secrets

Perfect and Brook’Lynn

Baby you couldn’t tell them nothing about each other. The love they shared and the level of trust when everyone wanted them apart was immaculate. A few hiccups but that’s to be expected. I did want to see how the boys felt to know that Brook seen their mom, but she went through so much trauma I don’t think it really registered with her. Yaya and Kema was so lost I thought Snake was gonna off Yaya. Kema was knocking head off about C2.

Whew, I needed a tissue after reading this!

This story took me on an emotional rollercoaster but I was enjoying every bit of it. Seeing each couple overcome their obstacles was everything. I loved the friendship dynamics between them and how they looked out for one another. Sad to see how the situation ended with the parents but it goes to show what's done in the dark always come to light.

Standing together through it all

The book allowed you to see that no matter what happens in your life, you can get through it.
Secrets always come to the light.
You never know what people would do to keep secrets.
There were a lot of things that each couple came back together.
I am glad each couple went through and came out on top. It takes communication and growth to love .

Another awesome book S. Yvonne. She writes the best hood stories and I like how she shows the hood men do have feelings. Now, Boom & YaYa were my favorite couple. There are some trigger warnings but you will also laugh.

must read

I loved this book so much I wish it had a epilogue. With all the characters I would have loved to get an update on all the couples. If they worked things out did snake pop up in Miami or not. Did everyone get back together.

Wow! I so enjoyed this read! The situation that these two down low gangsters did to their family was so horrible! They caused so much heartache and pain! The lies and deceit was a lot to handle and come back from! However the characters fought their way through it and got back to a semblance of their normal lives! This was a phenomenal read! Bravo to the author S Yvonne. Superb!
